“Well, I’ll say this, [walking through Sandy Hook Elementary School after the spree killing] was the worst day I had as Attorney General. It is, I think the single failure that I point to in my time as Attorney General, that I was not able to… convince Congress to really follow the will of the American people — which was to enact meaningful, reasonable, gun safety measures. The gun lobby simply won..” U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, interview with MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry [via breitbart.com]

  1. the will of the American people would be to put you in jail for running guns that killed American law enforcement officers and civilians.

    • Indeed. In fact with regards to Sandy Hook, his actual failure was that he doesn’t recognize what the problem really is.

  2. So glad this guy is going away… it can’t be soon enough. Too bad he’ll almost certainly get away with all the crap he pulled without consequence. Good riddance.

  3. They want soooo badly to be seen as the “arch toward justice” that everything has to be portrayed over dramatically. We didn’t pass a gun ban, so now these reporters must strap on the flack jackets and report from behind enemy lines. You know, the “war on women and young black boys™”. It’s the Brian Williams School of Journalism.

      • Tru dat. If you watch them closely, you’ll see a pause, a flinch or a wince when they force that drivel out of their mouths.
The really good ones, though, can only be captured with his frame rate cameras……
Joe Biden’s BS is so glaringly obvious, even Helen Keller could spot it.

        • From seeing Holder vs. Biden, Biden seems to give more tells, I am pretty sure his smiles are “duping delight”

“(Noun) Duping delight is a term coined by Dr. Paul Eckman. He says, “duping delight is the pleasure we get over having someone else in our control and being able to manipulate them”.” from the link below. Dr. Eckman is a bit creepy in that he uses the “we” for the definition IMO

Looking at the same web site it has a “checklist” for psychopaths, I think both Biden and Holder would objectively score high on them.

  4. The will of the American people seems in favour of no more limits on the Second Amendment. So Mr Holder should not consider that a failure.

Being held in contempt however. . .

    • There has never been a better example of contempt. He holds contempt for every American, as well as our justice system, and Congress.

  5. I am certain his answer would change depending on his audience.

And perhaps some day he will get over himself.

Nah, who am I kidding? That requires at least some self-awareness and introspwction, and that seems to be lacking in many, if not most, politicians

  6. First, the will of the people was respected, post-Sandy Hook, as demonstrated by the press conference where President Thin-Skinned threw a colossal hissy fit after Congress rejected his gun control measures.

Second: the “will of the people” is subordinate to the Rule of Law as defined by the Constitution. That’s what differentiates our Republic from a Democracy. According to the Rule of Law, the govwrnment is explicitly prohibited from infringing upon the right to keep and bear arms.

  7. Yeah, because he totally did not fail Brian Terry and his family. He’s obviously not bothered by it, and is only resigning to try and dodge some of the questions congress has about his gun-running misadventures.

  8. What do you want to bet that Obama will issue more blanket proactive executive pardons to Holder and the rest of his hitch men, just before he leaves office?

  9. We wish Mr. Holder many more failures, just not of the Fast & Furious kind. In the future, Mr. Holder, please try to fail in a way that doesn’t get people killed.

    • What makes you think that Fast and Furious was a failure? From EH’s perspective it was a success.

  10. So, what “meaningful, reasonable gun safety” measure would have prevented Sandy Hook?

Universal background checks? Safe storage laws? Drop-safety requirements? Mandatory 12-pound trigger pulls? Requiring a manual safety on semi-automatic handguns? Gun safety instruction before someone is allowed to purchase a firearm?

What gun safety measure, exactly, would have done the trick? Because I’d sure like Mr. Holder to answer that question.

    • Preventing another Sandy Hook has nothing to do with EH’s desire to enact more gun control. He wants the federal government to have more control over law abiding citizens. That’s what it’s all about.

  11. The gun lobby he is referring to is funded largely by the American people. The corporate funders are in turn funded by consumers who use disposable income to purchase their products, IE purchasing a “want” instead of a “need” (in most cases…) The gun lobby is funded 100% by people willfully parting with their money. This cannot be said of big Pharm, Big Auto, Big Oil….etc. These are all funded by people who are essentially forced to buy a necessity.

So complaining about the “Gun Lobby” the same way they complain about the Oil Lobby or the Pharm Lobby falls absolutely on its face. I’m absolutely sick of it. Even if the “Gun Lobby” was funded 100% by evil corporate forces, those corporate dollars are still coming from a huge pool of the American people who choose every day to spend their hard-earned money on a product that they want, knowing full well where those dollars are going. Holder and others who try to shine a light on this nefarious gun lobby need to be called out on their logical failure.

    • The oil comparison is not so good, either. Nobody prescribes gasoline for sore backs, or treats insomnia with crude oil. It’s a need, to be sure, but one surrounded just as firmly by liberal distortions. Look up “hydraulic fracturing lies” on the googleator.

    • The ‘gun lobby’ wouldn’t be nearly so persuasive in Washington if it didn’t influence so many votes out here in flyover country. The ‘gun lobby’ meme is something coastal liberals tell themselves to make believe they are in the majority in this country.

    • The NRA gets its money from willing contributors. He himself has been sucking at the public teat for 6 years and more, paid from funds demanded at gunpoint by the government. And he complains about the evil NRA? Amazing.

  12. The will of the people? The will of many people is to see Eric Holder charged with criminal malfeasance for his role in the Fast and Furious coverup. Others are just furious that he didn’t leave fast enough.

    • His incompetence at his job, and his deliberate and obvious race-baiting would be enough reason to boot his ass out, even without F&F.

  13. “follow the will of the American people ”

Keep repeating the lie in the hopes that people believe it.

The Congress voting down the bill is also the “will” of the people.

When CA voted down gay marriage, that was also “the will of the people” but it took some twisted court logic to knock down what “the people” voted for in the first place. I am not against gay marriage, but when people vote against it, that too is the will of the people.

Politicians have never cared about the will of the people versus the will of their ideology.

    • Two wolves and a rabbit voting on what to have for dinner is the will of the people too.

The Constitution (and the representative republic form of government) is what keeps us away from mob rule, because sometimes the will of the people is wrong, (especially when it comes to minorities) like it was when we interned all Japanese-American citizens during WWII.

      • Agreed. Such might reflect the will of the people, democracy even, but to stamp that mob mentality with any mantle of legitimacy like liberty would be grossly mistaken.

Liberty doesn’t kick in until you have a well-armed rabbit contesting the vote.

    • Google translate didn’t detect Holder’s Newspeak, so I’ll give it a go here:

“The People have spoken.” = “I won.”

“Special interests thwarted the will of the People.” = “I lost.”

  14. By “gun lobby” he surely means the 5 million dues paying members of the NRA, correct? What does everytown for disarmament have, one million facebook likes?

  15. I hear that prolonged strangubation will do that to you sometimes.

I wonder if any foreign funds were offered to help him in that fight.

  16. The fact that his “greatest failure” is a failure to enact legislation instead of a failure of LAW ENFORCEMENT shows why Holder has been an utter failure in his position. Apparently, the expected duties of his position aren’t as important to him as influencing Congress appears to be.

  17. I’m just happy that we could come together and collectively poop all over his feelings.

The Constitution has that effect on tyrants.

  18. “…The gun lobby simply won..”

    Uh, no…

Logical “common sense” actually prevailed over knee jerk emotional reaction deceptively pushed by the anti-gun crowd including Holder.

    Simple as that.

    • And the ‘logical’ ”common sense” was twofold:
      A) Desire to retain one’s legislative Seat, and B) the reality that the antis’ gun control efforts are a sham movement ultimately aimed at simply disarming everyday law abiding Americans with no resulting effect of reducing violent criminal behavior with or without guns.

  19. They just can’t help themselves, can they? They even have to lie to themselves about Americans and guns. I would say the gun buying and new gun owner increases since 2008 are a more valid poll than anything Gallup can do. People are responding with their money and their behavior.

  20. Sooooo did he forget about all his race-baiting hate mongering and failure to look into any of the hideous scandals rocking our nation?

  21. Where does this dipshit think the “gun lobby” got all that money but from the American people?

The NRA is the longest-lived civil rights org in the country and one of the largest by paid membership, and these fools (Dems) still can’t grasp the concept. When it comes to our safety we don’t want your help and we never asked for it.

The fact that this man isn’t in jail after his confirmed breach of the law just speaks to how well the “different justice for different people” approach of the Left in this country works.

  22. We need not be surprised by Holder. What we should be shocked at is Congress’ slow-walking every investigation of every scandal of this administration, not the least of which are those by the ATF under Holder’s watch.
Well, now that Holder has resigned, as soon as his replacement is confirmed (more of the same), the urgency to pursue any DoJ scandals initiated under Holder’s watch will dissipate. When we call our congressmen they will mumble some excuse that there is no point in pursuing Holder now that he no longer holds a position of honor or trust in the Federal government.
We have no basis to be shocked by tyranny in the Executive branch of government. That was the way things were under the divine right of kings; that is the way our founders warned us would forever be our vulnerability. What is inexplicable is how our Congress has done nothing to reign-in this executive. There have been 4 cohorts of Representatives (2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014) and one full cycle of Senators elected during the rein of this Administration. None has done its duty. The current cohort places control in Republican hands; yet, there isn’t a single sign that they have any intention of stopping this Administration.
Our problem lies in Congress and in our failure to primary the incombants with enough Constitutionalists. Until that happens, nothing much will change even with a Constitutionalist in the White House.

  23. Well the outgoing attorney J##off did one thing right. Make it two-renew my NRA membership and buy more guns. LOL

  24. His biggest failure is being a lying weasel! “meaningful, reasonable, gun safety measures” that would have done NOTHING and saying the American people wanted it is continuation of a tired lie.

  25. Except that the will of We, The People — and especially the PoTG — was never really with you, Eric “Fast & Furious” Holder.

The Special Investigator, who didn’t at all exonerate you in his report of the incident by the way, should have recommended charges be brought against you.

The whole damned lot of them up there on Capitol Hill should have the book thrown at them, to include the SCOTUS and the POTUS. But, I guess the fumigators are on permanent hiatus.

    His greatest failure? HIS NOMINATION.

  26. Now we have to be concerned about that woman who Obama wants for his replacement. A die hard liberal democratic who supports Obama unconditionally. Make sure to contact your US Senator and demand a NO vote on her.
