“There is no legitimate justification for any handguns, automatic weapons, or excessive ammo cartridges in metropolitan areas. Constitutional amendment or not. But there is zero chance of any change in our current political climate – thanks to scare tactics, gutless politicians, and truckloads of lobbying money in state capitals and Washington, DC.” – Tim Schildberger

  1. Didn’t you know Timmy’s opinion is above the constitution? He’s teh überman.

“Constitutional amendment or not.” It’s like saying screw the constitution. In my country this is a criminal offense.

  2. And like all Modern American Liberals, Mr. Shildberger is certain he is the authority on such matters. The one common trait of modern liberals is the certainty that they are smarter than the rest of us and have a “natural right” to govern our lives (can’t say God-given right, they generally don’t believe in God so they replace it with given by Gaia or something). They are removed from all the other totalitarians in history in name only.

    • “The one common trait of modern liberals is the certainty that they are smarter than the rest of us ”

It’s also a common trait among conservatives and libetarians and gun owners and just about any other group you care to name.

      • However, of the groups you mentioned, only one thinks their smarts should trump all and direct the government to be powerful enough to take away freedoms and control us. As in, the exact opposite of what our Constitution clearly directs the goverment to do. Not very smart.

  3. In addition to insinuating that Trayvon Martin was an innocent and white (figuratively) as snow child, the author was factually incorrect about the Trayvon Martin shooting. The police did not tell George Zimmerman to stay away.

  4. You know what’s ironic? The people that support completely ignoring the 2nd to create some “gun free utopia”. They dont realize the only reason they still have rights is because those old dudes that wrote the Constitution thought fit to write in the 2nd to protect all the other rights. Im fairly confident that if we hadnt had the 2nd, we would have already lost many of our other rights outlined in the Constitution.

  5. OK Tim, next time someone breaks into your home or is approaching you on a dark street, rest assured the guy isn’t armed because you say he isn’t.

  6. “There is no legitimate justification for any handguns, automatic weapons, or excessive ammo cartridges in metropolitan areas. Constitutional amendment or not.” But there is a practical justification; Schildberger and his fellow blood dancers are cowards, too frightened to confront armed gangbangers in order to confiscate their firearms and bring about the gunless utopia they claim to be their goal. And that all we need to know.

  7. Call 9-1-1 Tim, those are the folks who will arrive too late and do the investigation on the death or injury to you and/or your family, you nutless twit.

  8. The problem is Tim, most of us “common” people have to live in the real world where we don’t have the time or money to commit the mental masturbation needed to create an imaginary utopia that can only exist in your fevered dreams; the truly bizarre reality is that people pay big bucks to go to those bastions of delusional thought and call it “higher education”.
    Now that is crazy.

    • I want to zoom down to a particular emotional and psychological pathology. The phenomenon known as self-righteous indignation.

We all know self-righteous people. (And, if we are honest, many of us will admit having wallowed in this state ourselves, either occasionally or in frequent rhythm.) It is a familiar and rather normal human condition, supported — even promulgated — by messages in mass media.

While there are many drawbacks, self-righteousness can also be heady, seductive, and even… well… addictive. Any truly honest person will admit that the state feels good. The pleasure of knowing, with subjective certainty, that you are right and your opponents are deeply, despicably wrong.

Sanctimony, or a sense of righteous outrage, can feel so intense and delicious that many people actively seek to return to it, again and again. Moreover, as Westin et.al. have found, this trait crosses all boundaries of ideology.

      • An Open Letter,

It does seem that Tim and mikeb might be suffering from self-righteous indignation. I would also include Obama and Hillary as suffering from that illness.

  9. “Tim is a writer, TV producer and proud former Canberra resident who has lived in Los Angeles since 1997.”

One can claim the irrelevance of firearms until one really, really needs them. At that point, the polite rules of society demanded by persons such as Mr. Schildberger are hastily ignored.

My evidence is the 1992 LA riots when a dozen or so peaceful, gun-hating Los Angelenos called me to “borrow” a gun just in case. I politely pointed them to the LGS and reminded them of the necessary 10-day (15-day?) waiting period. Honestly, these people pray for the best and prepare for nothing.

    • My girl is from Canberra, and I can say with certainty that the anti gun message is thoroughly indoctrinated in urban Aussies from a very young age. I’d be surprised if he felt any other way.

  10. Yet another foreigner trying to tell us what our Constitution means. He should stick to what he’s supposed to know–beer and sharks, the latter after the former.

To address his point, though, politicians may be gutless, but they know what’s good for them. It’s not the NRA or other lobbying groups that determine who wins. It’s the fact that the American people, everywhere but for a handful of repressive areas, refuse to vote into office a candidate who promotes gun control. The American people vote for gun rights, and that’s the only survey that matters.

  11. Has this guy ever heard of Chicago? If he has I bet he’s flat out ignoring the 350+ deaths this year in that “gun free” utopia.

  12. 7 days without power will create the caveman Olympics within a tank of gas (+\- 400 miles) of NYC, LA, Philly, Or Detroit. That is why every reasonable law abiding person within that range has a lethal means of protecting their family. It is a right, but more importantly, a responsibility. I guaranfuckingtee the looters will be armed.

BTW, Tea Party Wacko is a term of endearment for me. If the shoe fits…..

  13. I have an idea. If these guys really think the second amendment is no longer valid then get 2/3 rds vote in both houses and change the flippen constitution. Oh I forgot never going to happen.

  14. I liked how at the beginning of the article, he said the politicians have lies and don’t have an understanding about anything they say, YET he says that they should talk about gun controls. If they “lie” or have “no understanding” of other issues, wouldn’t one logically conclude that the same could be said for gun issue or any issue?

  15. I am trying to figure out what definition of “child” he is using from the Children’s Defense Fund, formerly headed by (very left of center left) Marian Wright Edleman (who IFRC was a roomie of Hilary at Welsley Colllege). 1 per 3 hrs = 8/day = 2500 a year. Really?? or are they adopting the liberal view that a 21 yr old is a child?

  16. Congress is not afraid of the NRA, and the NRA lobbying budget hardly makes a dent in the need for campaign contributions. After all, the NRA represents only 4.5 million gun owners. What Congress is afraid of is the wrath of the OTHER 75 to 100 million gun owners NOT represented by the NRA, individuals who make a point of voting when the government starts making noise about limiting constitutional rights.

  17. What I want to know is what is an “excessive ammo catridge”? Is it anything that actually goes ‘bang’ when the trigger is pulled? Is it any ammo that can be loaded into one of those deadly assault magazines I’ve been reading about? Do police use these “excessive ammo cartridges”? and if they do, why?
