“We’re at a point culturally where it’s time to pick a side. I don’t know if neutrality works anymore. The gun violence we’re seeing in this country right now is so grotesque.” – Coalition to Stop Gun Violence President Ladd Everitt quoted in NBA applauded for anti-gun violence ads during high-profile games on Christmas Day [via nydailynews.com]

  1. So urban thug gang culture vs individual responsibility and freedom culture. I choose the latter even if the Gilbert Arenas/Plaxico Burress/Rae Carruth’s of the pro sports leagues chose the former.

  2. ” The gun violence we’re seeing in this country right now is so grotesque.”
Yes it is, ban NBA thugs would be a good start, then ban ghetto thugs, ban unmarried fathers, ban race pimps, suicide with guns, ban criminals with guns – 99% problem solved!

    • I get that there is sarcasm in the comment, or at least I hope there is, that being said, what do “unmarried fathers” have anything to do with it?

A man doesn’t have to be married to a woman to be present in his child’s life. My parents divorced when I was a child and my sisters and I have a very strong father who has always been in our lives. Same goes for me and my children after my divorce, I was a even single dad for several years, point of fact.

      • How about ban irresponsible, dead beat, absent dads? Not meaning to rag on responsible fathers, just don’t find many in ghetto high crime areas.

        • A lot of story’s adout “how I got out ” involve a strong role figure. When you let the streets raise your kids the street is what you get.

        • “Pew research and CDC show no statistical difference between race for deadbeat dads.”

Where did anybody mention race except you?

TX Gal’s said “ban irresponsible, dead beat, absent dads.” No mention of race.

        • @H

in order for you to be counted as a dead beat dad a court has to recognize your paternity and order you to pay child support. Needless to say, many (most?) ghetto dwelling baby daddies never get declared as fathers. So while the PEW study may be technically correct, it constitutes an in complete sample.

        • The Pew/CDC study has several short-comings. They are addressed in the text of the paper by the researchers themselves. That doesn’t stop the media from drawing their own conclusive narrative, nor does it stop the hordes of useful idiots from posting those interpretive narratives without ever reading the study or understanding the shortcomings of certain academic research methods; such as voluntary response surveys.

        • There are irresponsible, deadbeat, absent mothers out there, too. I have a cousin who refers to his son’s mother as “the egg donor”. She and my cousin haven’t been together for some time and she apparently wants nothing to do with their son.

  3. i’m firmly in the less gun violence camp.
i think it’s nice that so many are so adept at guiding balls and pucks with hands, feet and sticks with amazing accuracy.
i think it’s ludicrous what the market will compensate them for their demonstrations.
and i care very little what any of them have to say.

    • I am totally against gun violence,I am not against the 2nd amendment and the individual right to protect yourself, your family, and your property. If the government and these anti gun groups would make that distinction, they might gain some allies but they aren’t against gun violence, they’re against law abiding gun owners and our God given 2nd amendment rights.

    • It is interesting how the anti’s have tried to paint gun owners and gun culture as “pro-violence.” They have unfortunately succeeded in places like NYC.

      • Alinsky’s Rule 12 in operation. Separate gun owners from those that would support them by making them out to be violent thugs. Doesn’t matter if it’s true if it accomplishes the goal.

      • If a giant sink hole opened up and swallowed nyc,I wouldn’t give it a second thought. Notice I didn’t capitalize new york city?

  4. So, the NBA is on your side? All the NBA? How about we do this? Let’s have a gun buy back for NBA players. At the beginning of their next home game, the players bring in ALL their guns. Then, some day within the season they voluntarily allow a surprise inspection of their homes for firearms. Any firearm found is an immediate and permanent dismissal from playing (and receiving compensation) in the NBA.

    • The management of the teams are always called “owners’…who can sell or trade their players as they see fit.

Rules set by owners that MUST be followed by the players or punishment it dolled out.

      Sounds familiar…but no one complains.

    • They should also make all NBA players register any guns they own and it should be reported on the news every time they buy a gun.If any of their friends make a straw purchase for them, the player and friend should get a minimum of 10 years in federal prison.

    • Come on, they’re advocating removal of YOUR guns, not their own! I mean, if you can play a child’s game, you are obviously a special snowflake!

    • “..In addition, a gun was confiscated from Saunders’ car, said patrol spokesman Lt. Craig Cvetan. Information about the gun will be forwarded to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office for potential charges, since Saunders does not have a concealed weapons permit, Cvetan said.. …”

Hmmm. Apparently some athletes some didn’t get the memo.

  5. The constitution or tyranny, those are the choices.

But this fact is completely lost on the slow thinking mass media consumer. By design of course…. but lost on them regardless.

  6. I choose the side that believes in individual rights and freedom, that believes people can and will do good things, and that building relationships with our friends, neighbors and community is the real way to grow and prosper. I choose the side that wants to enforce and respect the existing laws even if that means breaking up gangs that happen to have race as a membership standard, If they are a gang and are committing crimes, they need to go to jail. By the same standard, law-abiding citizens should be left alone. How hard is that?

I reject the side that thinks it is okay for them and their cronies to keep guns, but wants to disarm everyone else. That has never ended well in all of recorded history and the approach either shows a shocking level of ignorance of history or an outright evil intent. I reject the side that thinks only a few rights should be allowed on the terms and conditions they dictate because then they are not rights, they are permissions and no free person need ask for permission to be free.

I condemn the side that wallows in blood and gore while refusing to acknowledge hard statistics, that there is no epidemic of gun violence anywhere other than in inner-city gangland and drug dens. I condemn the intellectual dishonesty and outright lies told by the side that uses falsities and terror in an attempt to deny free people their rights.

I encourage people whose minds are not yet made up, but who hear strident voices and accusations on every side to do their own homework, read actual FBI statistics like those here https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2013/crime-in-the-u.s.-2013/offenses-known-to-law-enforcement/expanded-homicide/expanded_homicide_data_table_8_murder_victims_by_weapon_2009-2013.xls to see that in a nation of some 319,000,000 people, only about 9,000 per year are murdered by firearms, which is somewhere under half of the rate of automobile fatalities, and about a fifth of the number of people who die from influenza and pneumonia (see CDC stats here http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm). The actual firearm homicide rate per year in the US is something under 3 per 100,000 people which, to put it in more comprehensible terms, would mean if 100,000 people were living in two very large stadiums of 50,000 people each, over the course of an entire year, there may be three (3) firearm deaths in one of the two stadiums. That’s not an “epidemic.” That’s not “grotesque.” Our law enforcement undoubtedly tries each and every day to combat criminals who commit such crimes and should be appreciated for the effort even while we respectfully suggest that known criminals and gangs should be ended, thereby ending this problem as well.

    • Some nice points. Medically related deaths approach the 225,000:year in the year, and the CDCs flu death number has been padded for years using pneumonia statistics. You’ve stated that you choose the side of individual freedom, hopefully you are sincere in this as we are being pushed at an accelerating speed towards abdicating our medical care rights to the government and to the drug companies that make immense profits from the products we are being forced to take.

    • I posted something similar in mom’s face book page last night I claimed that they intentionally choose narrow studies to push an agenda, that high profile mass shootings where mostly done in gun free zones, that all of the recently purposed gun legislation would not have prevented any of those, that the guns used in the San Bernardino attack bought in California even though they have universal background checks and an assault weapons ban. That the violence in our nation is not linked to guns but to a broken justice system that does little to prevent crime and our prison system is overworked, so we get a revolving door effect that most gun crimes are perpetratored with illegal guns and people that have been previously convicted of a crime. I was called an idiot, bigot, redneck, brainwashed, sicko. I claimed I had sources and studies to back my claims. Which I posted all of them, some from the FBI some from prevention of violence and crime organization, some from prison studies.org some from gunfacts.info an article from the nyt about gun deaths homicides vs suicides. And other various studies, I was not rude or disrespectful to mom or her sheep, I found myself banned from there sight this morning. Which is even more concerning they claim in there posting rules that discussion is OK and not people have to agree, but spamming, name calling, threats, foul language would not be tolerated. I did not violate any rules was insulted by their own, and was banned from their site, they not only seek to destroy the second but also the first.

      • … they not only seek to destroy the second but also the first.

Actually, Denis, it is much worse. They seek to destroy people who are “different” — people who have different beliefs and ideas.

      • I like this idea. Lets do a post of the day. Let the post be polite and conform completely to their rules. Do a screen shot of the post. Then let them call you names and do what we all know they will do. Take more screen shots of the insults and final banning of the poster with how long this all took. Let everyone see what they really mean when they say “discussion is OK”.

      • Hopefully enough people read your post before it was taken down, their greatest fear is that you might make someone on their side see logic and common sense.

  7. I pick the pro Second Amendment side, as do most Americans. Gun Owners should boycott the NBA and demand they run pro-NRA ads. one for every CSGV and their like ad.

        • Does the NBA have a choice in what ads the TV stations run?

Isn’t there some ad time every hour (or whatever) that is at the sole discretion of individual stations, ie, not even mandated from the ‘network?’ You know, the spots where they place ads for local businesses?

NRA could buy up some of that time in a handful of markets. Might not reach everyone, but for those it does reach, it would be money well spent I’m guessing.

        • The NBA (and other entities who closely guard their Brand) can use airtime during their game broadcasts (as the NBA just did on Christmas) to air Public Service Announcements which can be used to push a point of view supported by entities such as “Everytown for Gun Safety”, which the NBA chose to do, in “partnership” with and funding by, EtGS saying they are apolitical and the spot is not advocating for more gun control laws.

I don’t think Airtime for ads of local interest can override PSA airtime allotments sponsored by the Content Provider. As far as I know regionally relevant Ad airtime is purchased by contacting the local Network-affliate TV Station. The Parent Network determines ad scheduling in a Major Sporting Event (NBA, NFL. MLB, NHL, NCAA etc) because the National Network contracts with the Sports Leagues and controls Broadcast content to conform to the various contracts. Local Independent Broadcasters can accept whatever ads they want, but normally do not contract for Nationally Televised Sporting Events. Notable exceptions are WGN Chicago, TBS Atlanta and a few others who Broadcast local Teams regularly in selected Sports.

Take note of where you see NRA ads. Fox Cable News regularly runs NRA Ads in the evening. I do not know if the NRA is trying and being rejected elsewhere or not.

In the end PSA’s and Broadcast Ad sales ARE about Branding and political/social agendas as much as about Money. They are also about cowardice and political spinelessness, which is a huge miss on Pro-gun advocates’ part. If 50% of American Gun Owners would tell the NBA that we aren’t going to their games, watching their games or buying their spin-off products until they stop running anti-gun PSA’s, or start running PSA’s supporting gun rights/ownership, and make good on that threat, then we could send a powerful message which would be heard and felt by many involved parties.

        • Yeah. I think so. They have the series where the speaker ends up saying something like “… I am the NRA and I am America’s safest place…”. Some of those are good, others don’t play so well..depends on the speaker.

Personally, I think the NRA needs to seek-out and employ a new, younger-minded marketing team. The messages they’re offering seem dated and often make me think they’re aimed at OFWG’s who nod their heads approvingly and pull out their checkbook.

    • I understand that ISIS has infiltrated the NBA,the NBA needs to be investigated to see how far this conspiracy reaches. These NBA players are uber violent on and off the court, they are not good role models for our children and most of them are future convicts. This may be true of the NFL and MLB depending on their stance on the 2nd amendment.Hollywood is a foregone conclusion, secular jews and radical muslims working together to destroy our country. If the federal government doesn’t want to handle it,it should be investigated at the state level.

  8. I chose a side a long time ago – freedom – and I have made the promise to fight for it to my last breath. For the side that supports tyranny, how far are you willing to go? When I swore allegiance to the Constitution, it was the entire Constitution including the 2nd amendment. When I swore to fight all enemies, foreign and domestic, it included fighting those who would undermine the Constitution including the 2nd amendment. Again, I ask how far are these Liberal Fascists willing to go?

  9. That cover art. It’s worse than the national enquirer.
It just floors me that people read the NYDN and other rags like the enquirer and actually believe it’s “news” and the truth.

  10. Pick tatted up thugs or American heroes-they’re making it EZ. Honestly I wonder what drug combo Ladd(a dog?) ingests…

  11. Wanna make a real difference?…..Team up and speak out on paying their damn child support.. better yet, maybe set an example for all professional players and go get their nuts cut.

  12. Next from the CSGV, Ladd Everitt quoted in:

Gang members applauded for anti-gun violence ads during illegal gun uses 365 days of the year.

Get a few of them holding some signs that denounce the NRA during the act of murder and you have your ads.

With their desperation at an all time high it really doesn’t seem like much of a stretch for them to get completely in bed with violent gangs at this point. I am going to hold back full commentary on how close they already are by associating with the (extremely hypocritical) NBA.

  13. How many of those NBA figures in the anti-gun violence ads will now discreetly, silently retain firearms in their travel bags, vehicles and homes?

  14. Why can’t we be for both? I am against gun violence, and I am pro-NRA. That is because I know that gun control will have almost no effect on gun violence.

You want to deal with the average every day gun violence, then you need to deal with the criminal gangs who already don’t follow the laws. And probably need to reconsider our drug laws, or at least our methods of drug enforcement.

If you want to reduce the high profile mass shootings, then we do need to look at dealing with the mental health issue, but most importantly the media needs to stop with giving the shooter attention. In almost every day the attention from the media is exactly what they want, and if you only reported on the victims we might have less mass shootings. This isn’t a new idea the media knows full well that they are accomplices in the mass shootings but they don’t care ratings are the only thing that matters.

    • If you want to reduce the high profile mass shootings, then we do need to look at dealing with the mental health issue, but most importantly the media needs to stop with giving the shooter attention.
Maybe…but you have to ask yourself why does Chiraq have tough gun laws and the thugs still blast each other with glee and abandon; while places such as Berne Indiana have guns galore and really very little crime.

      • Chiraq is due to the Chicago’s dismantling of their previous public housing projects.

Now instead of the violence being clustered in one area and they have to come to some sort of stability, they are spread out now fighting over who gets the street. Which is directly linked to the drug trade, the more territory you control the more money you get from the dealers.

Which is why I mentioned that maybe we need to reconsider our drug policy.

        • “Now instead of the violence being clustered in one area and they have to come to some sort of stability, they are spread out now fighting over who gets the street.”

The Obama administration is actively trying to spread that failed policy across all of the USA..

          Read this:

“HUD’s soon-to-be-released regulation, in the works since 2013, will compel affluent suburbs across the nation to build more high-density, low-income housing, plus sewers, water lines, bus routes and other changes needed to support it.

Obama’s social engineers will eliminate local zoning requirements to achieve what the HUD rule calls “inclusive communities.” Property values be damned.

If you’ve worked hard to afford a home in an affluent neighborhood of single-family houses, you have a lot to lose under this HUD plan.”

          http://nypost.com/2015/06/17/the-mad-war-to-house-the-poor-in-rich-suburbs/

At the beginning of his first term, Obama promised:

“We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”

          http://www.nationalreview.com/article/359967/obama-transforming-america-victor-davis-hanson

It looks like he is determined to keep his word on that threat.

    • They need to be more specific on the types of gun violence, guy killing thug breaking into his house = good gun violence, thug shooting thug = good gun violence, thug robbing guy minding his own business and shooting him,bad gun violence.Liberals have a problem with distinguishing between good and bad or they think good people should be shot.

  15. I choose the side that knows simple fixes aren’t simple.

Ban all guns. It’s easier than looking at actual problems.
Deport all illegal workers. Who is employing them? Not themselves. White business owners.
Chinese and Mexicans took my job. Nope. Sold off shore by a white man for more profit.
All Blacks are thug culture. 1-2% are. But who cares as long as they keep it in their neighborhood.
You’re paying for it? You’re paying for “Sally Mae & Bob Bob” to a greater extent. Let’s get them all off welfare!
All Muslims are terrorists. George W. Bush doesn’t agree.
White Christians who kill others for ideological reasons aren’t actually terrorists. Let’s give them a pass.
Immigrants are dirty, keep to themselves and are taking my job. (Said in the last 300 years about Germans, French, Italians, Poles, and Irish.)

      • Astonishing. I wonder how much money the federal government has stolen from taxpayers, at the point of a gun, in order to screw up so many people’s lives so badly. That entire article could be summed up by saying “giving away free shit doesn’t help anyone, ever, anywhere.” Even one of the “success stories” has only succeeded to the point of seeking out more and more free stuff. And once you get accustomed to free stuff, it’s a short trip to pointing a gun at someone to inquire about some more free stuff.

  16. “We’re at a point culturally where it’s time to pick a side. I don’t know if neutrality works anymore.
Well, they got that one right.

  17. There is no such thing as neutrality. I’ve been saying it for years. This is exactly why I’ve always been hardline about my gun rights. The other side will always be just violent and radical. If they’re going to be violent radical, it’s best you have the guns.

    • And that was just one day – Black Friday. There is hope, but we have to keep at it with our facts, our calm reason, and our resolve to remain a free & armed populace.

    • If I recall, TX CHL holders don’t need a background check on each purchase, so that number is not a complete indicator of the number of buyers. It does suggest more uninitiated persons entering POTG.

  18. The New York Daily News. The extremist totalitarian choice for excellence in pseudo-journalism.

Lining a birdcage with this rag constitutes animal cruelty.

  19. The gun violence we’re seeing…on the news…because you will most likely go your entire life without ever personally seeing a firearm discharge unless you want to, particularly if you are an ivory tower-dwelling politician

    • We commoners just have too many rights for Ladd and his ilk. It’s as if we think we’re actual people or something.

  20. I’m on the side of the founding fathers and the constitution which includes the second amendment,I am against elected politicians that don’t use the constitution when writing and enforcing laws.It seems to me that the darker this country becomes, the less the government uses the constitution.Don’t all these foreigners come to this country because we live by and are governed by the constitution? I’m sure anyone can see what happens when you even start questioning the constitution. Our form of government has worked for over 200 years and when these liberals start reinterpreting or questioning the constitution,it throws the whole country into chaos. If these foreigners and ghetto dwellers want to give up their freedoms for handouts, they don’t need to be here.If muslims want to live in a country where sharia is the law of the land, they need to stay in their shithole of origin. If foreigners want me to give up my 2nd amendment rights so they can get another freebie, they need to stay in their shithole of origin.

  21. Huh? The NBA is still relevant? Being for the Seattle area I kinda forgot about the NBA. I did enjoy the Sonics Games. But they are put in the past with the Seattle pilots and the King Dome. It is nice to have the Sounders back. I did miss them when they were gone all those years. Whats even better is my kid saw me writing this post and ask me “what’s the King dome”

  22. The NY Daily Snooze has been going out of business for the last decade. When it went up for auction earlier this year, there were no bids even though the owner said that he would sell for $1.00 to anyone who would take this dog off his hands. The “newspaper” is losing $10 million to $20 million per year, so it’s grasping at straws, seeking to become the new Daily Worker.

    • These covers and editorials on major metropolitan papers is what’s affectionately known as “losing”. They have almost no sway into today’s modern society and must resort to the equivalent of a temper tantrum in order to be noticed.

  23. I choose freedom, as I always have. And there’s a reason the side of freedom needs to be armed.

We, the good guys, will never try to oppress, enslave, or kill anyone else.
They, CSGV and the bad guys, are fascists, Stalinists, and devote their lives to enslaving and oppressing all around them.

Want to put a dent in gun culture, CSGV? Stop giving us daily reasons why we need to be armed to defend ourselves from you and your wannabe fascist ilk.

  24. LOOK AT ME!!!!!!!!!!! LOOK AT ME!!!!!!!!!!!,I can jump high and stuff a ball through a hoop, wanna see what I can do with Play-Doh next? I be for real,my opinion be countin n’ shit!!!!
