“Baltimore does not want my help, and therefore Baltimore is not my problem. Nor is Baltimore America’s problem. Baltimore is a Democrat problem. These riots are nothing more than Democrat infighting, and the videos of these riots are nothing more than infomercials for U-Haul and the NRA.” – John Nolte in Baltimore is Nothing More Than an Infomercial for U-Haul and The NRA [at breitbart.com]

  1. Quite a bit of truth to that. If you live in a metropolis controlled by Democrats, and a black man is killed by someone who isn’t black, your city may be the next to burn.

      • Which didn’t get much news coverage. Get a Zimmerman / Martin or a Wilson / Brown shooting, and the news is all over it, with protests to follow. Zimmerman and Wilson get cleared. Eventually.

So police brutality or any shooting death of a black man by a non black man or police can be the next trigger point.

        • This is an interesting point! How exactly can this case fit into the “blacklivesmatter” narrative if the perpetrators, city government, and leadership are all African American? I’d love to see an explanation of this.

        • One rationalization said was that they adopted the police culture and mentality. Guess something along the lines of a Stockhom syndrome

        • The mayor and the chief, and three of the six cops directly involved. But the black cops are kind of like Elliot Rodger’s knifing-victim roommates, they don’t fit into the preferred narrative so they are shoveled down the memory hole.

        • When was the last riot where the victim AND the perp were black? There’s a handful of killings EVERY WEEKEND in Chicago, and Shartpon et al. don’t say boo!

    • “Next to burn”, and burn again if it turns out that Mosby’s rush to prosecute is an empty bag of accusations. Establishing probable cause is one thing; establishing provable facts for a guilty verdict is another.

So is this Democrat run bastion of liberalism and socioeconomic slavery called Baltimore going to burn again when the officers are set free because the prosecutors’ case cannot be proven? Or are they relying on ramrodding a problematic case through a ‘sympathetic’ jury?

Time will tell. The “thugs” of Baltimore have learned much from their Democrat masters; any reason to revisit the mayhem and arson will do.

      Free toaster anyone?

Nolte hit every nail square on the head in his BREITBART News article.

  2. I understand the sentiment and it is hard not to feel a little schadenfreude when these cities that have been completely dominated by Democrats for decades have these kinds of problems, but it is still America. Assuming we love our country, not just the red parts, we should care.

        • Because those are the only two options?

Your false dichotomy is showing this morning. And your knee-jerk didn’t cover it up.

        • Wow, that was a pretty big jump.

If it could be arranged on MY terms, secession would definitely work this time around.

    • While I am sure the majority of the country both red and blue have sympathy for Baltimore the bottom line is this is specifically a black problem, then a liberal policy problem.

Unless and until the black community looks inward to solve their own issues and stops blaming everyone but themselves, what little sympathy the rest of America has for them is going to be exhausted very quickly.

Love for our country has nothing to do with enabling the perpetually aggrieved entitlement class and excusing their behavior.

      • You can call it a ‘black problem’ or a ‘democrat problem’ but it doesn’t just effect blacks and democracts. So I care. I have friends there who are neither. And if they move I’d still have friends nearby who are neither.

      • This isn’t a black problem, it’s an economic problem.

All of my black neighbors in my middle class suburban neighborhood do not have these problems. But if you rip the jobs out of a city and sends them overseas, you get problems like you do in west Baltimore.

        • Your premise is founded upon an unproven assumption: That the unemployed population of those cities (Baltimore included) would take a job if one existed.

        • My people are from the coal regions

Of Schuylkill County Pa. Those jobs have been gone for years, and no grafitti,no riots and safe neighborhoods. Explain that.

        • Owlsley county (sp?) Kentucky has been called the poorest county in America. But other than commerce in meth and welfare fraud it is pretty much crime-free. There’s more to it than lack of dollars.

        • Its an economics of poor blacks on welfare electing the same failed corrupt democrats kind of problem.
Rep Elijah Cummings, 30 years now.

  3. I read that before the weekend and I couldn’t agree more. With the exception of a RINO governor the entire state and city have been run by nothing but democrats for decades

    • And I’m sure a true blue Republican (someone who agrees with you 100%) would have swept the state. /sarc

      • A true Republican would have no chance of being elected in the state of Maryland. Very similar situation to New Jersey.

The voting public in some states are made up largely of people wanting to be subjects to be ruled over, instead of free people to be properly governed. For decades reaching back to the early 20th century the people of Maryland and especially Baltimore have desired to live with democrats governing them. They reap what they sow.

    • This brings up an interesting point that is never discussed – Why should WE consider secession? Why isn’t there a mechanism for throwing out the bad apples who have decided they do not want to follow the Constitution they swore to uphold when they became a state in the first place?

  4. I’m not sure how much I agree with his POV, but damn, that is a fantastic title – infomercial for U-haul and the NRA… May be the truest thing I’ve read about the riots.

  5. Good friend of mine who lives there just had a rock thrown through her car window as she was driving home last night. She narrowly avoided being cut up and was just returning from dropping her little nieces off back home. The cops who responded two hours later confirmed reports that the mayor told them to stand down.

The day before a black racist in a Greek restaurant she went to was telling the owner he better give him additional freebies with his food or he’d bring a crowd back and burn the place down. He also uttered racial slurs against whites.

The mayor keeps doing whatever the racist mob wants, from kicking the National Guard out early to ending the curfew early so protesters can stay out all night.

The tribalism and racism on display in that city is proof positive to me, at least, that the good people still there need to leave if they can.

  6. Oh but remember “Racism is a white invention so there is no such thing as racism against white people…”

    • Sad but true. I had someone tell me that the game of 8 ball was racist. The explanation was the white ball knocks all the colored balls off the table and saves the black one for last. So long as the race hustlers keep this kind of thinking alive, we will continue to have problems.

I wish Dr. King was still around. Maybe, just maybe, we would be judging people based on their character instead of the color of their skin.

  7. Baltimore has been under complete democrat rule for 50years, they spend the 3rd most per captia per student in the USA but 72% of their 8th graders are below the “minimum” math standards and some 69% in reading. ranking them in the bottom 10 in the USA

Since the 1968 riots, 25% of the homes and businesses are still not rebuilt

There have been unaccounted Billions with a “B” spent on Baltimore, and yet, we have seen zero results.

I am sure if we go through every democrat controlled major metro city we will find the same results

At the end of the day, socialism only benefits the socialist, not the people, and that is what we have today.

They can dance into office any democrat they want, the results will be the same.

    • Nope. Why are democrat controlled cities like Seattle and San Francisco thriving if it’s all about Democrats running every city they control into the ground, like Detroit and Baltimore.

You refuse to address a simple fact, the elephant in the room, per se.

      • The Seattle area is thriving because of Microsoft, Boeing, and shipping at the port. It’s much harder to run a city into the ground if there is a huge amount of successful capitalism going on, but if you look at housing cost, crime rate, and traffic congestion that gets worse every year, you can tell they are sure trying hard to make it happen.

        • You do realize that housing/rents, traffic congestion, and crime are all characteristic of growing populations, don’t you? That the succesful capitalism in these cities is the actual cause of so many people moving in? The very narrow view of the world through a binary (R Vs. D) lens is impeding your ability to tease apart cause and effect, so you just blame Democrats by default.

I’m not defending the Dems in any way. Just pointing out your flawed logic here.

        • The Seattle area is thriving because of Microsoft, Boeing, and shipping at the port. Yeah, I had a cousin that worked for Boeing. If Boeing is not doing well, things in the SeaTac area go to crap correspondingly.

      • Many of the Democratic-controlled cities you believe are “thriving” are able to hoodwink their taxpayers and bond investors through “financial engineering” to make their books look much better than they are.

Chicago is at the very top of this list. But others will be seen future financial press headlines.

Greece looked like it was doing A-OK until recently. But anyone who knows something about public finance could see Greece coming from a long ways off.

Since I invest in muni debt (and have for 15+ years) I’ve spent a lot of time looking at city/county/state financial standings and issues. There’s lots of Democratic cities, counties and states that are going to be in dire financial positions soon. IL, CA, NY, RI and others have an appointment with the reckoning at the end of the road, that point past which they cannot kick their cans any further.

Baltimore is merely like Detroit – they’re just further down the road to ruin than some of the other examples of their cohort.

This isn’t to say that GOP-controlled states are paragons of financial prudence. Some are, some aren’t. But the only states where I now invest in muni paper are basically upper-midwest states, GOP controlled and overwhelmingly white in population.

    • they spend the 3rd most per capita per student in the USA. On Meet The Press some female black commentator stated that the big liberal cities should be given a Marshal Plan to spend trillions more dollars than what is being spent now. Of course all of the other liberal commentators jumped for joy and thought it was a swell idea.
It is really interesting seeing how much the liberal policies have flopped, that they think more of the same is going to fix anything. I still say the BosWash corridor and the Left Coast are circling the toilet.

      • The standard RAT/progressive response: “We jiss needs mo money!”

That was Elijah Cummings, who, from his perch in the U.S. House of Representatives, has done more than anyone else to make Baltimore the economic and cultural septic tank it today. You know…..the guy with a rugby ball for a head.

  8. I think this quote needs to be put up for best of the decade. Probably the most succinct and true comment I have ever read. Thanks for posting this one Daniel.

  9. As a new black gun owner who has had great help from “red necks” I can say when black democrats are in charge and no white republican is around to blame when the SHTF they will say and do the most crazy things, “allow them to destroy “, “because they are children we don’t want to intervene” while they burn a city to the ground.

White progressive will do the same thing when there are no white Christians around to blame.

    • White progressive will do the same thing when there are no white Christians around to blame

As a white agnostic, this drives me completely batsh*t. I have no particular love for Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, etc etc. But the blame game on religion/faith/political affiliation for all the nation’s problems is infuriating.

        • Life as a militant Libertarian…

Practicing what you preach is the most miserable thing about wearing your principles on your sleeve. Integrity is a real b*tch sometimes and nobody likes you.

    • Chris – I do not understand. “As a new black gun owner who has had great help from “red necks””
What does having a new black gun have to do with this?
What do “red necks” have to do with this?
May I translate what I think you meant to say?
As a black man, being new to the gun, and having been advised by gentrified southern folk, …

      • You made me laugh since black democrats are burning a Democrat city to the ground. Keep your focus on those invisible white republicans in Baltimore.
I’m glad I live in a free state where I can walk into a white owned gun store and buy as many guns as I can a ford in one day.

        • “I’m glad I live in a free state where I can walk into a white owned gun store and buy as many guns as I can a ford in one day.”

I am glad I live in a free state where I can walk into a black owned gun store and buy as many guns as I can afford in one day.

        • Chris – As Tex pointed out – Ford doesn’t make guns.
          Quote of the day:
Smile and have fun. If you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right.

  10. No politician that bends to the will of a mob, that gives “room to destroy”, that lets his or her city plunge into anarchy and chaos should be allowed to keep their political seat. They should be ashamed of themselves for letting it go that far.

      • No, it won’t be. It’ll be far worse.

I get the ‘Alien’ ref, OK? If you nuke a large city you now have *millions* pouring into the un-affected areas.

*MILLIONS* without jobs, homes, food. Do you have any *clue* as to that will actually play out?

  11. The whole point of federalism was that the states could become laboratories. What works in one state would soon be copied by others and what doesn’t would be a lesson for the rest. Granted, Missouri and Maryland couldn’t be much more different politically, but Ferguson and Baltimore couldn’t be much more similar. Unfortunately, the answer for all these people is to demand more money from the rest of us, and that will magically solve the problem. And every time they convince the federal government to take more money from hardworking Iowans to funnel into their corrupt cities.

Their educational system isn’t working. The conservative answer is school choice. They demand more (federal) money. They already spend $15,000 per student in K-12 in Baltimore but that apparently isn’t enough. You could give a poor black kid a voucher for half that to take to a private school and he could get an outstanding education, but when bloated and corrupt bureaucracies need to be protected that’s unacceptable.

So Mr. Nolte is spot on. They don’t want our help, they want our money. Screw ’em.

  12. The trial of Officer Michael Brelo ends Tuesday. He’s the only one of 13 Cleveland cops that are being charged for the chase that ended with 137 shots and two well perforated crack heads. So we’ll see if Cleveland is the next city.

  13. Wow, that’s real talk right there! I have had a feeling for a while that the very oppressive and racist tactics used by the left are finally being realized by a majority of Americans. We have a way to go but people are starting to wake up.
    Great read!

    • Bob – Most likely he mouthed off too much and pushed too many buttons. A brief unscheduled stop was made and his attitude adjusted. Minor hitch for the cops; a long bolt. For without the minor detail of a broken spine and his untimely death, this would never had made the news. What I hope comes out of all this? A serious dialog about the comply or die mentality prevailing amongst the inner city police.

      • THIS. Same thing happened with the poor old Indian guy in Huntsville AL who got a broken back by the cop who body slammed him for “not complying” with orders (when the guy didn’t even speak English). The police need to revisit how they do training and/or threat assessment and what physical actions should be permissible against non-combative suspects.

    • No video evidence has been produced so it will continue to be a he said she said situation….so no…probably not. People will forget about it all in a couple months though when the next city goes up in flames and riots break out. Im guessing cleveland or as the underdog pick, New Jersey.

Once the news moves on it will slide into the darkness just like every “massive story” in the last couple years

  14. Breitbart is a great source of news for conservatives, patriots and 2nd amendment lovers. Nolte is THE MAN!

  15. The city’s goal was to reduce the violence to keep the federal money trough rolling in. Baltimore cares neither for its citizens nor the businesses that keep them employed.

  16. Unfortunately, it is our problem, especially if the deems use this as an excuse to try to nationalize the police.

  17. Funny how many of the original states’s license plate mottos don’t fit, The Free State, The Constitution State, The Spirit of America… It would be funny to pass a Federal (and unconstitutional) Law to make them change it something more accurate, and watch them scramble to demand State’s Rights in court. Good times.

  18. Numerous liberal run cities are thriving: Austin, Seattle, Denver, Porttland, etc.

So…what separates these cities from the likes of Baltimore and Detroit? Anyone in the media, right or left, care to address?

    Nope.

    • Haven’t bothered to look at data but…..how about the “length of time the Dems have been in charge”.
Baltimore has had 50 years of Dem control and this is what it ends up looking like.
The other cities you mentioned …I don’t know their history.

It’s easy to run on the infrastructure and momentum of work done in the past.
Europe is a great example, but then it ultimately starts catching up with you.

As Thatcher said “Socialism is great until you run out of spending other peoples money”…or there abouts.

  19. Well, the one lesson I learned from all of this is that I do not want to be near a city if things ever get messy. Perhaps it is time to move further out into the country

  20. Wow. This guy is pretty right, ya know? It does give us a lot of backing based on people’s reactions from the whole Baltimore fiasco.

  21. The problem is the UHaul truck moves Liberals as easily as Conservatives and they don’t seem to grasp the fact that the policies of those they elected are the root of the problem. So they move somewhere red or purple and start messing that area up (hello CO) by voting for the same type of politician. On top of that, there are a lot of Liberal gun lovers but they still don’t care enough about that issue to not vote for the party who’s line is to remove that freedom.

So yes, Baltimore is our collective problem and we better get a handle on it because it’s coming to a city/town near you soon enough.

    • This is exactly the most pressing problem that we face. It has been spreading to other states like a slow-moving infection.
I don’t think that we can turn our backs to this problem–whether you think it’s political or racial. It won’t just fade away.

  22. That’s one of the dumbest things I’ve heard. Regardless of political stanice, people still need help.

    • Nobody argues about a need for a last recourse safety net.
It’s a long way from that to the current Democrat policy of “Free money for your vote” policies.

    • It isn’t possible to help people who won’t help themselves.

Burning down businesses in their neighborhoods that might employe some local people counts solidly as “not helping themselves.”

Once a group of people decides to act this stupidly, there’s nothing I can (or will) do to help them. Stupidity must have consequences, lest we reverse the course of human evolution.

      • The people have to want to improve themselves and their situation on their own. Free money and government programs do not work.

  23. It’s funny how nightly shootings are never a problem. If as much effort was put into protesting black-on-black murders, maybe things would start to change.

  24. Sorry but I care about Baltimore. Have the republicans/conservative given the demtards a reason to vote for them? Even the pro gtards know it’s a “black” problem. No one has hidden the race of the offending po-leece.

  25. Looking at the most recent elections, especially by the electoral college, aren’t most Big City Problems all Democrat problems??

  26. Blaming the situation on Democrats is obtuse in the extreme. Baltimore’s problems are the result of a combination of corrupt government, history, culture, and economics. Certainly Democrat policies have done little to help and much to hinder Baltimore’s success, but there is way more at play here, and playing the blame game just serves to obscure the real problems.

  27. It’s hard to say that the current administration hasn’t done more for selling and inadvertently “advertising” firearms than their latest debacle.

  28. Baltimore is the next Detroit. It has the same dysfunctional political history: decades of predominately black more interested in enriching themselves at the public expense than having a well run city, failing schools, an increasing population of unemployable, undereducated citizens, 30,000 abandoned properties. Now the white flight begins. This might be a good time to buy UHaul stock.

  29. Poverty and violence all depends on the dignity you are afforded where you live. I’ve lived in NC, there’s a possibility for dignity in MOST places, but Charlotte…

  30. Baltimore has been Democrat controlled for 60years….. is this what we want? No! in 2016 for a vote a Democrat is treason, a vote for 3rd party helps the Democrats. its not complicated.

  31. Nolte’s written several articles on this theme, and even though all of his arguments are not rock solid, it bears thinking about. When anyone, even a Democrat, brings up the fact that Baltimore is and has been 100% Democrat for decades, my lefty friends won’t brook it. They bring up Gov Hogan as a counterargument — the man’s been in office four months!

I became a conservative because a friend explained that we conserve the ideas that work and reform the ones that don’t. Okay, this doesn’t describe many conservatives, but it makes a lot more sense than progressivism for the sake of progress. But even if you were a progressive, wouldn’t you stop doing the things that don’t make progress? Wouldn’t you re-examine welfare, affirmative action, wealth redistribution, and all of it if this was the result? No. Nobody is admitting that — or even questioning it — and that was has Mr. Nolte upset.

    • “…wouldn’t you stop doing the things that don’t make progress? ”

      No.

      Follow the money…and power.

  32. Well if it’s a problem for Democrats the solution is to spend billions of dollars with no way to trace where the money went and nothing well change except the rich get richer. Now if it’s a Republican problem nothing well done, nothing will be spent and the rich get richer.

  33. Wow…harsh. But not entirely inaccurate, and not undeserved.

It’s easy to think that places like Baltimore aren’t America’s problem, but unfortunately they are. Because they’re here. And problems spread if they’re not taken care of.

  34. As a resident I wholeheartedly support this statement. I’m gonna move up to a lifetime membership and buy more ammo. Matching plate carriers for the family would be nice. Yay for overtime!

  35. Baltimore’s history does have a lot in common with Detroit, Cleveland, and a variety of other Dem-controlled cities…but not with all of them.

Baltimore was, like these others, a thriving industrial city in the 1940’s and 1950’s. WWII saw the “great migration” of black labor from the south to the factories of the north as jobs became available during the war-time drafts and booming industrial demand.

During the WWII and post-war era Dem political machines established themselves in each of the three cities, appealing more and more to the labor vote, with just enough scraps thrown to the black voters to keep the peace. The labor vote was industrial labor.

In the 1960’s industrial jobs started to disappear: I’ll just mention the closing Bethlehem Steel’s enormous Sparrow Point steel plant and GM’s truck/auto assembly plant as two large losses for Baltimore.

The Dem political machines had to retrench, steering their union vote seeking toward civil servant/public worker unions to compensate for the industrial losses. The public union/Dem machine facts of life led to growing public employment (still more white than black…), high taxes, shrinking returns on tax expenditures.

Do not forget the ultimate solution adopted by the machine politicians in these cities. In Baltimore, former mayor (Nancy Pelosi’s father) Tom D’Allessandro Jr.’s son Tom III (Nancy Pelosi’s brother!) stepped out of politics and back to private law practice because the pay was better and he couldn’t cope with the ’68 riots. City government became black government after Schaeffer. A police force ruled by the Irish and Italian has slowly become a force led by black Chiefs and senior officers….but is till a police force in confrontation with a larger criminal/drug-dealing population.

Nancy? She married a Californian who had a brother already in San Francisco politics. The rule? Move to greener pastures, whether they be SF, Austin, Seattle, or other.

When the economic tide goes out for a large industrial union-led (Dem controlled) city, the poorest are left behind with no tradition of political craft, education, or business. Thus we see so many grandchildren of “the great migration” stuck in bankrupt cities…and clueless.

  36. Mosey made the classic hubristic/inexperienced/politically motivated prosecutor’s mistake: premature over-reaching. You’d think she would have learned from Ferguson, Zimmerman, Nifong, ad nauseum. But, no…..She got camera fever and was seduced by the cheering mob. She will probably regret it. I hope she will.

    • Doubt it. She got the job for connections and toeing the PC line. Thats all she knows. Thats all the community in organizer in chief knows and look at how he is hanging in there.

LIVs wont change until change hits the pocketbook, like Workfare changed the dependency culture, briefly, when the GOP dominated Congress forced it on Clinton.

Until the dependency class industry is reformed, or utterly destroyed by a long and difficult economic crisis, we are stuck with talking about skin color.
