“That’s a major responsibility to carry a gun, whether it’s concealed or not. And it’s scary. I predict from the legislation that — and it’s going to go quick, it’s going to be July 1 — we’re going to see some accidents, possibly deaths.” – State Sen. Oletha Faust-Goudeau in Brownback signs bill that allows permit-free concealed carry of guns in Kansas [at kansascity.com]

  1. “… I predict from the legislation that — we’re going to see some accidents, possibly deaths.” – State Sen. Oletha Faust-Goudeau

Well Senator, can you please site me the “blood in the streets” results from the other five states that already have constitutional carry?

    Waiting…………

    Waiting………..

    Still Waiting…………

    • Here’s your answer (I shall paraphrase); “Those states are different. Here in Kansas, the people are so stupid they even elected ME, can you believe it?! And violent? Oh, my goodness, every one of my constituents would kill you in a heartbeat, for no reason at all, if we allow them to have firearms. Especially the black ones! Why, our beloved Mikhail Bloomerbooger just showed us how true that was just here recently. We must do all we can to stop this damned FREEDOM!

      • “Those states are different. Here in Kansas, the people are so stupid they even elected ME, can you believe it?! “

        Nicely done.

        • she should see the ones we have elected in CA. I don’t even vote in statewide matters most years, just the local county stuff. Lassen County and Modoc County are the only 2 “Red” counties on the voting demographics maps. Our representative is LaMalfa and he is alright.

    • And what about all the criminals who carry without government permission already? How come we don’t hear about all the accidental discharges and shootings they are involved in? Pretty sure it’s because it doesn’t happen very often. They may shoot each other intentionally, but even they can figure out how to get the thing to go BANG unexpectedly.

    • What she means by that is that more of her “constituents” in gangs might get perforated if they attack people, or may not feel they can operate with as much ease as they do now. That’s what she means.

  2. I predict that she’s so stupid that one day she’ll show up at work wearing her underwear on the outside of her dress.

  3. There will be blood in the streets! The wild west has returned! Chaos! Pandemonium! We are doomed!

    Umm, no.

  4. So yes, there was the bra holster incident, the mom shot by her 3 year old. So yes her prediction may come true at a rate of approx 0.001% and countless people will be safer because they have a better way to protect themselves.

    • I was unaware that getting a carry permit involved demonstrating competency with a bra holster.

And the woman shot by her toddler already had a fair bit of training and experience (and a permit).

      • I was using those two incidents to support her statement that there can be accidents or death, but countered with the fact that with approximately 300k ccw plus the states that are constitutional carry, I could only come up with only 2 accidents that happened recently.

        • Oh, I know. I’m merely pointing out that neither one had anything to do with constitutional carry, and neither one was, or could have been, prevented by a licensing/permitting process.

        • I was going to point out that he statement was phrased such that it may very well be true while crimve, esp. homicide, drops drastically. The thing she is worried about is completely divorced from the overall effect this bill would have. Not so much missing, but ignoring the forest for the trees.

  5. Once again, with no facts to offer a politician turns to personal fear and conjecture as an argument.

We elect stupid politicians we get stupid laws and arguments.

Change requires we change how we vote. Stop blinding voting for a familiar name or a party name and look at the character of the person.

    • Problem there is getting someone worthwhile to run, so we can vote for them. In TX, with legislators’ salary of $7500/year, people run for reasons other than income, not always good reasons (duh). I already live in Austin, so I wouldn’t be real inconvenienced, and I still would not consider running. For someone in El Paso, maybe 600 miles away from the capitol, each legislative session would represent real pain in the butt. A combination of someone willing to take the job, and someone you would want to vote for, is not going to be guaranteed. And I am not sure I would be willing to raise that salary, either, as that would bring its own problems.

  6. So, is she willing to bet her political office on this prediction? If she believes this will happen, how about she agrees to resign if it does not happen?

  7. Actually she’s right. Her constituents, the criminals, are going to get killed and shot. So naturally she’s concerned about this given the fact crime will go down and her ‘people’ will have less power.

    • Except the law abiding part of her race will have more of a chance to protect themselves from the minority that already carries illegally. That is, IF they decide to take advantage of this and arm themselves. Would be ironic if the first casualty after the law passes was a criminal or gang member that was shot trying to rob a law abiding citizen. Of course, if that happened, the left will spin it to try to show that the poor misunderstood criminal would not now be dead except for this darned law.

      • “Would be ironic if the first casualty after the law passes was a criminal or gang member that was shot trying to rob a law abiding citizen. ”
        .
I predict (now don’t quote me) that this is exactly what will happen. By July 1st of 2015.
        .

  8. Because paying a few hundred dollars and attending an 8-hour class absolutely guarantees a person will be 100% responsible at all times and won’t ever behave in a negligent way or have an accident, right?

    • A class does not guarantee anything. But, I would put my money on the chances of a ND going way down if the gun owner is at least aware of the basic safety procedures. Don’t think these classes should cost anywhere near $200. I took one in Nevada that was offered for free by one of the local gun shops and the range. Only cost was my time and some green ammo at the range. The gun shop offers this class once or twice a year to promote their business and help with gun safety. Great instructor and the class was well worth my time.

      • My 16hr required state “training” taught me exactly zero things that I had not already learned from internet searching & YouTube videos when I went for my CHL.

The person who is interested enough to actually pay attention and try to learn in a class is also the person who has gone out on their own and spent time to figure out the right way to do it already. For everyone else, it’s just a matter of surviving a boring class and not falling asleep so they can pass the silly requirement. There are exceptions to this where instructors make individual effort to be particularly helpful, but the things that states generally believe is “necessary” and require to be taught is really obvious. “If you murder someone, murdering them while carrying a CC license is still murder.” “Don’t be smashed drunk and carry a gun.”

  9. Time will tell. I’ve only been to Kansas once or twice, but I am betting the under. You would think the Senator would have more faith in her constituents.

  10. and now, the very next time theres any kind of violence in kansas involving a gun, she can get in front of a tv camera and say, “see? i tried to told you!” without any regard to whether a constitutional carrier is even involved.

    • You’ve hit on it, Feoff. The goal is to disarm the enemy (the people) so they can be more easily controlled.
      .

  11. These anti’s really got to retire this blood in the streets meme. We’ve got years… YEARS of hard data that proves that carry of all sorts is unmitigated success. Both traditional concealed carry as well as constitutional carry. People carry guns makes us all SAFER.

  12. OMG OMG OMG !!!!! IT’S GONNA BE DODGE CITY OUT THERE !!!!!
Wait a minute, it’s already Dodge City out there in western Kansas, and I bet they won’t have any problems with “blood in the streets.”

    • And they had very little of it even back then. Between 1870 and 1885, in the wild west cowtowns of Abilene, Ellsworth, Wichita, Dodge City, and Caldwell, there was a total of 45 homicides. I imagine the count would be lower with modern medicine. Bring back the wild west.

  13. Jumping in the blood-puddle before it rains.

If she’s right we’ll hear about it forever. If she’s not, this becomes a throwaway sound bite that won’t be heard after an election cycle or two, if then.
