“Councilman Jack Evans [above right], Ward 2 Democrat, voted for the bill [to remove the training requirement from legal firearms ownership in D.C.] under political pressure. ‘Council member Mendelson called me last night and said, ‘This is what I believe we have to do in order to accommodate the concerns raised by Congress and, or, the courts,’ Mr. Evans told The Washington Times. ‘Although none of us like making it easier for someone to have a gun legally, we believe that this is what we have to do.’” – via washingtontimes.com [h/t to Nathan in Houston]

  1. “none of us like making it easier for someone to have a gun legally”.

Ok. These are some words we can use.

    • Its funny hearing the truth out of a politicians mouth for once. At least he admits that they hate legal gun ownership, but is still willing to take the rights and opinion of the sheeple into account. For the first time in the history of D.C.

  2. ‘Although none of us like making it easier for someone to have a gun legally, we believe that this is what we have to do.’

Does DC council face elections or are they appointed for life? Emily Miller should consider running.

    • They are appointed for life. You’d have to get busted by the FBI while trying to buy drugs to be removed from public office. Ooops, that already happened and he still came back to be mayor (Barry).

Remember when you cross over the Potomac from Virginia, into DC, you are leaving America.

  3. “Although none of us like making it easier for someone to have a gun legally,”

Notice he is more concerned with preventing people from having a gun legally than with preventing actual crimes?

  4. Compare D.C.’s response to court decisions and legal pressure with Chicago’s. D.C., for all it’s ignorance, is making changes. Chicago remains obdurate. D.C. shows respect for the courts and grudgingly tries to comply with legal requirements. Chicago tells the courts to drop dead and tries to end-run the law of the land.

D.C. may be run by fools, but Chicago is run by criminals and tyrants. Is it any wonder why so many Chicago politicians and Illinois governors end up in prison?

    • They are the same, the matter concerns degree and tactics only.
None of them have the slightest regard for the constitution, bill of rights or human rights for that matter. They do however have a deep and abiding respect for their own power and importance, not to mention privilege and money at the expense of the people’s interests and some are also Marxists who are barely concealed by the media closet provided them. Then their are the hard left judges that these people appoint to all levels of the bench, which protect and gatekeep their laws and now impose their own, when the people don’t agree and the politicians need cover to retain power.

But there isn’t a conspiracy or anything like that! Everything is happening by happy accidental happenstance….

  5. What he likes or wants is of no importance, his job is to follow the laws and the will of the people. It is a sad statement about our current government when we are surprised and impressed by a politician actually doing his sworn duty.

  6. Call this the Emily Miller dividend. Had she not exposed the man behind the curtain, I’m sure that D.C. would not be considering these changes to its incredibly stupid laws.

    • Agreed, I never though she would do so much towards restoring 2a. She also does a great job of justifying the reasons behind it, ie citizens wanting to protect themselves against violent crime in DC.

  7. After reading this post the tune “When we played our Charade” started running in my head for some strange reason.

  8. Although none of us like making it easier for someone to have a gun legally,….
[W]hen the resolution of enslaving America was formed in Great Britain, the British Parliament was advised by an artful man, who was governor of Pennsylvania, to disarm the people; that it was the best and most effectual way to enslave them; but that they should not do it openly, but weaken them, and let them sink gradually…I ask, who are the militia? They consist of now of the whole people, except a few public officers. But I cannot say who will be the militia of the future day. If that paper on the table gets no alteration, the militia of the future day may not consist of all classes, high and low, and rich and poor…

    • Milfy?? Milfy??? Are you insane? Blind? For decades Memphis hosted the Church of God in Christ convention every November and every woman attending wore a hat and not a single one looked as kooky as that one.
