“It’s easy for someone who is surrounded by armed state policemen to tell someone else they can’t carry a weapon to protect themselves.” – Virginia Republican state Sen. Charles W. Carrico Sr. in Va. lawmaker wants to defund Gov. McAuliffe’s armed guards over gun dispute [via FoxNews.com]

  1. If this were to happen, watch how quickly and how quietly McAuliffe has private security hired, then tries to get the state to reimburse his costs under the radar.

    • Realistically, I can see governors having local law enforcement protection at their events, but that’s as much for general crowd control as for his/her personal security.

Really, there are fifty some odd governors out there, when you count those of U.S. territories/possessions, too. Hundreds of people, maybe thousands when you add in mayors of major cities, who also have special security details, have served in these positions over the last century.

How often does anyone attempt violence against one? I can only think of George Wallace and Huey Long. Strikes me more as little royalty wannabes strutting around playing President.

  2. I have no idea what will become of this effort, but I like that it sort of forces the left wing media to report on an issue that exposes left-wing hypocrisy for what it is.

  3. Not only him, local state and federal governments think and act the same intolerable manner. Denying lawful self defense to citizens within and outside the state is a moral abomination to our republic.

  4. We need to close the politician loophole where you can go to any politician and get your constitutionally protected individual rights infringed upon without any background check. These politicians are relying on bribery, graft, pay for play corruption and worse, and getting away with passing unconstitutional laws left and right. All this while they jet around the world with first class treatment, limousines, fancy hotel suites, gourmet meals, you name it, all surrounded by security forces that are armed to the teeth with high capacity 30 round clipazines, all paid for by the taxpayer.

    Close the politician loophole!

See? We can all say loophole too, a55hole.

  5. Email reply from a VA state senator sent to a friend:

“I am shocked and upset that Attorney Mark Herring has taken it upon himself to
cancel the rights of Virginians to carry a concealed weapon in 25 states. This
irrational determination endangers the lives of Virginians visiting other
states, and it also endangers the lives of law abiding visitors coming for
    business or recreation.
Governor McAuliffe and Attorney General Herring have a well orchestrated plan to
minimize the rights of our citizens with these atrocious actions. Rest assured,
we will be putting legislation in the forms of bills as well as budget language
to prevent this massive political overreach by the Governor and Attorney
    General.”

  6. Interesting, if you watch the video at 22 seconds in you see a member of the governors staff step in front of the security guard with her iphone and get a picture of the reporter, just for the record of course. Has to be his staff as no one else would be allowed to elbow her way in front of that security thug.

Huh. I guess this man doesn’t really like being questioned, and wants to keep track of those citizens who ask these hard questions he is then forced to ignore.

    Interesting.

  7. Herring biggest campaign donation came from……………wait for it………………… $1,292,417 Independence USA PAC

Who is that you ask? One guess, he’s short and has an over sized ego. Our favorite New Yorker….. Mikey bloomie http://www.factcheck.org/2014/02/independence-usa/

Independence USA is a super PAC that focuses largely on helping to elect candidates who support stricter gun-control laws. It was founded in October 2012 by Michael Bloomberg, and, so far, has been entirely funded by the former New York City mayor.

    • It’s got to be unconstitutional to limit the contributions of citizens to politicians while unlimiting the contributions of non-human entities.

      • As much as they like to bitch about Citizens United, the Democrats have taken advantage of that ruling just as much as the Republicans.

      • Under US law, US companies/organisations are treated the same as a US citizen. I believe it came from Nixon / Watergate / intel oversight program. When Congress wrote the oversight program they included companies and organisations that could not be wiretapped the same as a US citizen.

Now the Patriot Act and any other laws after 9-11-2001 have blurred the lines and Citizens United got the SCOTUS to agree they should be treated the same.

I THINK that is how we’ve ended up to where rich rule DC, state capitals, city / county governments.

So if you are looking for someone to blame, Tricky Dick Nixon is your guilty party.

  8. To all readers,

Please remember it is not Virginians who want what this carpet-bagging, lib-prog, Northern “governor” is shoveling.

We are doing what we can to put a stop to it, as well as roll it back.

    Yes, elections have consequences.

However, of late, our politics have been misshaped by the influx of transplants from Maryland, N.J. and N.Y.

      • I don’t care for your fail-talk, GS (and all the rest of you who abandon ship at the first leak)! Colorado ejected three anti-gun lawmakers. New York and Connecticut showed that confiscation will not work. If hippie, metro-socialist, and Ivy League states fight back, what makes you think the capital of the Confederacy is lost? Demographic trends do not take into account cultural and political warfare. It is slow, arduous, and house-to-house, but Virginia hunters and gun owners, the VCDL, and the NRA (based in Virginia) are doing it. We are not flying the white flag, but the one that proclaims Sic Semper Tyrannis!

        • Agreed, You cannot define a state by their elected leaders anymore, when the majority of the population is crowded into a small portion of the State…. As we say in Washington state, they may have the numbers, But we have the real estate.

        • I’m tired of the people who say “It’s a lost cause, it’s a slave state, JUST MOVE!” to anyone who lives in a state that suffers any small gun rights setback.

Doesn’t anyone get what the logical conclusion is to that?

What are we gonna end up with, absolutely every pro gun supporter living in Texas, which isn’t the gun rights utopia people would have you believe anyways?

No, don’t “Just MOVE”, stay and change it, fight it.

I’ll see you here after the CO laws are repealed instead of “Just MOVE”-ing.

        • NY Resident here: NY has not shown confiscation will not work (it hasn’t been tried). NY showed nothing. In the last election after SAFE the turnout numbers in state was lower than 30%. It was worse in the conservative upstate areas than in downstate (hence Cuomo won again).

To those behind lines, if you’re thinking of fleeing, do it quick. Before the property values drop because everyone else decides to do it.

      • Our one salvation is that the assembly stays red because the rest of Virginia is rural. They need to clip this facist’s wings and hopefully they do. If you are a gun person and live in VA you need to email and call your reps.

    • I read that too.. I also read somewhere that ” if you don’t use it, you lose it”..

and I don’t think they were referring to a work out program either.

    • We’re in that awkward stage where it’s too late to work within the system, but too early to line ’em up against a wall.

      • It’s not too late. We did it here in CO. It’s just that a lot of people would rather sit at home on the couch and complain than get out there and participate.

Half the guys who scream “bullets first” will be watching Monday Night Football after a long day of being keyboard commandos when new gun control measures win by 51% anyways.

        • Hear hear. Colorado is an example to the rest of us. You all showed where infringement leads, and you sent that horrible pro-rape Hudak scampering. We don’t have an electoral recall process here, but we’re building the earthworks and passing the ammo around. I’ve never attended Rally Day in Richmond before, but 2016 may be the year. Thanks for your support.

        • Except….nothing substantive has been reversed in CO. The statist faces have changed, but the policies remain. That some sherrifs don’t enforce the mag limitations isn’t a plus, either, in the long run. Capricious enforcement of arbitrary laws, wholly dependant on the officeholder’s whim, isn’t progress.

  9. See how easy one person can wash away 25 hard fought and negotiated reciprocity agreements? Now watch how hard it will be to re-establish them. Delaware tweaked its carry rules and broke a few reciprocity deals under the late Beau Biden. He also made it so out of state people can carry in DE but residents can’t use out of state permits to do the same. A Florida tourist can pack at the mall but I have to go through the grind to get a DE permit to do the same and I pay taxes here.

It’s interesting that CCW holders are viewed as the problem. The crime rate among them is far below zero percent and they have gone through their precious background checks and fingerprinting. VA is treating out of state permit holders like terrorists.
What it really comes down to is simple. Unless you work for them they don’t want you armed. They want that reserved for the cops who work for them. The cops aren’t your private security force but they laugh at the notion of you protecting yourself and tell you someone will take it away from you. They know all the statistics and facts already. No matter what hoops are created and you jump through them they all want us as helpless as the French. And the Mexicans.

  10. I hope the person who had her picture taken goes after and talks to the person who took the picture.

The picture taker does not look like someone with benign intent.

  11. Did you see how Gov. McAuliffe broke off his conversation with the woman without any acknowledgement whatsoever? He just turned away to someone else, smiled at them, and began conversing with them. He never even said, “Excuse me.” Or “Thank you for chatting with me.”

That there was the consummate politician. His entire response — verbal, non-verbal, body language, sh!t eating grin — is repulsive and makes my skin crawl.

  12. Sounds like another common sense gun reform, to me, ditching the Gov’s goons. I’m kind of getting the hang of this.

What’s interesting is that this proposal originated with State Senator Carrico, as before he was a legislator he was a Virginia State Trooper.

  13. I like it. I have one to put the reigns on the feds. States should create laws that make it illegal for law enforcement – state and federal – to carry firearms that are illegal for law abiding citizens to own. If these bozos want to claim that a firearm is a weapon of war, then civilian law enforcement should not have them either. A violation should have a minimum 10 year prison sentence.

  14. 3 Words to diss him in 2016

    – Auto Reception
    – Constitutional Carry
    – Knife Preemption

And hope he jump down an high bridge

  15. Politicians should be regarded as a servant class. Thus, they need to pay for their own security out of their own pay, or (gasp!) secure themselves.

Rumor has it that Vladimir Putin “walks that way” because he was taught to have quick access to a pistol. I wouldn’t be surprised if he still carries a Makarov on his person…

    http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/vladimir-putins-funny-walk-result-russias-kgb-training-not-parkinsons-stroke-1533311

“A supportive argument is the fact that trainees undergoing KGB training are taught to keep their right hand close to the chest even while walking, allowing them to quickly draw a gun when faced with a foe. It is conceivable that other forms of weaponry training are associated with a similar behavioural gait adaptation.”

  16. Before and DURING the second world war, Winston Churchill’s personal security detail was ONE MAN with a M1911. Churchill and his bodyguard were both reported to be crack shots with the pistol.

  17. Actually, this was my favorite quote from this story:

Republican lawmaker Sen. Bill Carrico sent a strong message to the governor saying that if he is so against guns, maybe he shouldn’t be surrounded by them:

“A lot of the governor’s power is deferred to the General Assembly at that point and I’ll be getting with my colleagues to circumvent everything this governor has done on this point. I have a budget amendment that I’m looking at to take away his executive protection unit. If he’s so afraid of guns, then I’m not going to surround him with armed state policemen.”

  18. What a worthless body guard. Why do body guards just stand there staring straight ahead. I would want their head on a swivel. do bad guy only approach from the front.
