WE [The NRA/ISRA] negotiate a bill to get it passed….then try to streamline the bill after passage of onerous language that make it impossible for some to carry or be in violation of the law.

“Super week,” in the eyes of the Brady Bunch, means changing the law to make it easier to get a concealed carry license. Less training required, lower fees, shorter wait times, etc. It also means whittling away at stupid “prohibited areas” so there are more places where the license is actually useful. Illinois has one of the longest lists of prohibited areas in the country, which includes public transportation (subways where people get robbed and assaulted a lot).
Governor Rauner signed a bill yesterday that enacted some minor changes in our concealed carry statute. Mostly just language clarifications, and removing the requirement to unload your gun in your car before getting out to put it in the trunk.
You get the law passed first, then when people see there’s no “blood in the streets,” it’s easier to make improvements.
On a side note I went to chicagotribune.com to look for the whole article and the top headline “3 dead, 10 wounded in separate shootings” is the first thing I see. How’s that gun control thing work again?
@JD: I always wonder that myself. Gun controlled areas is where all the killings are happening. Chicken or egg? Gun control laws seem to be the most popular in areas where violence is common. But when put in place they rarely seem to do much good. At least that is my observation. Maybe allowing the good guys to defend themselves would be a better option. As it is, only the bad guys have the guns and if you break the law by defending yourself with an illegal gun you become the bad guy and the law treats you as such. Reminds me of the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland.
It’s those darn states like AZ, TX, WI, etc. with “lax” gun laws! Without states like that, South Central LA, NYC, and the south side of Chicago would be peaceful paradises devoid of violence.
Violence in the cities just couldn’t possibly be due to broken families, gang banger role models, and failed liberal progressive policies. No way.

Don’t forget Florida. My old job used to have me driving from the Keys to Pensacola and everywhere between. At the boarders we had billboards warning people not to argue with us because we had the right to gun you down. I never saw any of this open warfare in the streets and I don’t remember any news stories so I assume the signs worked. (Ha!)
Just like Chicago though the vast majority of the “senseless gun violence” I do see in the news happens in democrat representated districts. Most of the murdered cops die there, all the riots happen there, and just about all the “good boys” on their way to take momma to church get shot there. I’m sure if we would just outlaw murder and possession of firearms by felons the killing would stop. But the NRA and rogue gun dealers won’t let any laws like that get passed!
Miami was chock full of ‘senseless gun violence’ before the state passed ‘shall issue’ concealed carry legislation in 1987.
In that time Florida’s murder rate has decreased virtually every year and gone from 11.7/100k to 5.0/100k, a 57% decrease, in the same amount of time the country has a whole has seen a more modest reduction of 48% (after continuing to increase until 1993)
Was it all about the concealed carry? Certainly not. But it had to be a contributing factor, and can certainly be ruled out as part of the ‘gun violence’ problem.

I’m no lawyer, but it seems clear to me: The Gov thinks all concealed carry bills are unconstitutional, since requiring prior permission from the government to carry a gun is rather obviously an infringement on the right to bear arms.

Correct. Imagine if you were required to take a weekend long ‘civics class’ at your own expense and pay a $50 fee for a permit to vote. And nowhere in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights can be found the words, ‘the right to vote SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED’.
Does he mean that when there’s a grassroots effort to get a clean carry bill passed, the NRA steps in to make sure they add amendments containing training requirements, license fees, and plenty of restrictions on where we can carry?

I’m sorry, but the NRA hasn’t been pushing for reformed carry laws, in states all around the country. Local guy rights groups have been doing that.
If you check, you’ll find that most of those “local guy (sic) rights groups” are NRA affiliates.
