This whole brouhaha about the UN treaty is just rank ignorance and fear mongering.
First of all, no treaty of any kind can trump the constitution, and there are SCoTUS precedents going back 2 centuries that clearly define that.
Second of all, no treaty is valid unless it’s ratified by 2/3 of the Senate. They voted on this treaty a couple of weeks ago and it was soundly voted down. No matter how much the Administration wants to endorse this treaty, until they get 66 votes in Senate, it’s never going to be binding in any way.
Lastly, the wording of the treaty itself says that each state has the right to regulate and control conventional arms within its own territory. On top of that, the the new provisions of the treaty have no teeth…there is no policing mechanism equivalent to the international criminal court. Even if we were to violate the treaty, all other member states can do is use harsh language in response.
There is plenty of proposed legislation, and actual legislation, that are a real danger to our rights. We don’t need to invent pseudo dangers to go with them.
While I agree completely with your last statement, to assume that the constitution or prior SCOTUS opinions have any meaning to the idiots running our country strikes me as rather, using your word, ignorant.
“They can’t do that because” has not stopped them yet. They do not believe in the Constitution, it’s pretty much on record now that they mean to abolish it.

Stop thinking these politicians actually care about what’s in the constitution. Most of what government does these days is unconstitutional, but here we are.

The leaders of our country are voting in favor of an arms treaty the UN put forward. The UN. That is enough to cause concern.
Even without ratification on our part, it still be inacted unilaterally by other nations…and considering that many popular brands of guns are imported, this does have the potential to further drive up prices. Imagine heading to your FLGS and there’s no Glocks, Sigs, HKs, or Springfield XDs available, because the EU decided to adopt this treaty regardless of ratification.
So those companies will let the biggest market in the world go? No, they will open plants in the United States.
Don’t think the feds can stop business expansion, flow of funding into the US. Think again.
Also imported is much of the ammunition we but (if there was any). And many of the components used in “US Made” firearms. Including, frames/receievers, slides, barrels, mags. think obummer can collude with the UN to stop this? dem controlled Senate or not.

I agree with everything you’ve said. However, that does not mean that the treaty will not impact us or our rights. How many arms, parts, and ammunition purchased in the U.S. come from overseas?
All that aside – the biggest gun-runners of small-arms in the world ARE the major governments of the world – of which the U.S. is the worst offender. This treaty will not slow down those efforts one bit. What it does do is give member nations the legal grounds to pick and choose the winners in a conflict, and punish anyone who disagrees with the consensus.
And as far as I’m concerned the treaty impacts the rights of any person in the world, it impacts the rights of all of us and is therefore dangerous. I behooves us to keep in mind that the rights enumerated in our Constitution are UNIVERSAL rights that all people possess.

Let’s say it passes, then they make it really bad because you know they have 90 days to mess with it before ratification in the UN.
After that the Congress can vote on it, sure. It probably won’t pass, this is true.
However now the administration has precedent. They can use it to guide policy and like using the commerce clause to essentially ban guns in California, don’t be fooled that it won’t have an effect.

Modern political elites have read the US Constitution and Bill of Rights to know the documents to destroy them.

This treaty won’t pass the Senate. That much is clear. What could happen is that all of us who enjoy collecting military surplus weapons or who use cheap ammo from overseas may see the trade in those dry up. On the other hand, if foreigners are tired of making things for us, perhaps we can return to making them ourselves.

I don’t understand why so many countries are rushing to join in the UN mandates over domestic issues. Australia will apparently be the first (or among the first) to sign the UN treaty. I personally wouldn’t trust the UN and its Apparatchiks to run a public toilet or a brothel.
