Mr. Emanuel is LITERALLY saying stand together. The bullets can only go through so many people.
What he also didn’t say is that they should form a human shield around him.

The mother of a 16 yr old football player at the conference was spot on, if she was actually referring to the weasels standing next to her.
I think the discourse is pretty much like a comedy skit where politicians and other liars/dupes and stupid people get together and say, “We need to get rid of the guns to make people safe!” but, the rest of the population that can think for themselves knows that the more we disarm people, the more violent crime and murder will occur.
The dishonest have always profited from other people’s misery while putting on the “I’m here to help!” costume when, in reality, they are really in there to “help themselves”. More misery is more opportunity. I think in the long run, this is what these people desire. More misery and more crime equals more opportunity for these crooks. …and a compliant population is always better for them. The gun variable is only a variable in a business formula. If you thought these dishonest bastards ever cared even a little about you above their power and their money, you are naive. From the president down to many (if not most) local cops.

The solution to the problem of gang violence in Chicago and other similar environment is the same one that GEN Petraeus used in Anbar Province. Enlist the support of an armed population to isolate and defeat the armed criminals. In this case guns and violence wielded by the law abiding population is the way to defeat the gangs. I note that the Chief of Police in Detroit has figured this out and as a result several gangstas have assumed room temperature. It can’t be done overnight but it can be done if you put your mind to it. When gangbangers realize that they are more likely to die than their former victims they will change their behavior.
Wouldn’t surprise me at all if significant numbers of Detroit “gangstas” are getting on the bus for CHIRAQ.

I just got back from a business trip in Chicago. First thing I realized is how delusional the city’s residents are. The are “no guns allowed” stickers on many businesses (more than I’ve ever seen in any city), as if those do anything at all. Further, people in the downtown area have blinders on. Cops were hardly present, yet people go about acting as if the violent South Side is across the country. I was up early one day (around 5:00 am) and walked to the local coffee shop. I saw several women jogging by themselves. One almost bumped into me as she emerged from a dark alley (it was dark out at the time). She couldn’t have been more than 100 lbs. and was utterly defenseless (as was I BTW). Watching the local news there was even more depressing. A 16 year-old was killed in a drive-by shooting and that was the fifth story on the 10:00 news. This would be the lead story in most parts of the country. Another story was about a man who won a hefty sum of money at the local casino, was followed home to his wealthy suburb, and was robbed and shot inside his home. Chicago is great city and I enjoyed my time there. However, I feel that years of local government neglect and failures to address the real issues will cause it to rot from within.

Parents do need to spend quality time teaching their children good values ie “don’t have kids of your own until you are an adult, completed your education, have a solid income, and are preferably married”. Parents should not rely upon TV, pop-culture, peers, and the public/government school system for teaching their kids about the most important things in life.
That will only work if the parents first have values.
And what parent exactly will be holding a 19 year old gang-banger and read to them? And read from what – their last warrant?

If i didn’t know that ‘tiny dancer’ Emanuel doesn’t see a lick of difference between a gun owner and a gang banger, I’d actually agree with much that he is saying. There is a huge problem with morality within the poor Black and Hispanic communities in Chicago. It’s not PC nor nice to say but it’s true. A lot of these kids would rob you or kill you, for your phone or your shoes or jacket just as soon as look at you. Murders happen happen here nearly every day over silly things like an argument on Facebook. Folks like father pfleger, misguided as he is, understands that he does not have an audience if he asks these folks to look within themselves for the problem so he projects those problems into a faceless enemy, “the gun”. No your little gang banging POS 14 year old didn’t commit murder… ‘he’s a good kid, turning his life around, aspiring rapper….’ no it was “the gun” that corrupted him like the weapon has some mystical Tolkienesque quality. But who cares, as long as Emanuel can keep the welfare cash flowing, people will continue to pull that Democrat lever like Pavlov’s dogs.
