  1. I certainly pray not, but I fear that if elected, Hillary will cause the 2nd (pun intended) American Revolution. Words written so long ago seem all too necessary now.

    • I’ve run through the Declaration a couple of times. There are something like 27 specific grievances, our current government has repeated at least 22 of them. The founders would have been a little past loading their muskets by now….

      • And yet, we actually have the legal power to change that, unlike the founders with regard to British rule. All we need to do is to convince our fellow citizens.

      • They did, indeed, load their muskets. Down here, we refer to the result as “The War for Southern Independence.” The overreaching, all powerful federal government we have today is the direct result of that conflict.

    • I’m not sure that Hillary will do anything much more egregious than Obama… except perhaps for the court nominations.

  2. The tentative good news is it looks like the House is safe, and maybe the Senate as well if the HildaBeast wins…

    • THAT is what seems to be really important in this election. A GOP House and (hopefully) Senate will keep her in check, and prevent any major damage to our 2A rights.

      • Except, as we’ve seen under Obama’s reign of terror, Democrats have no problem with using imperial decrees to create new laws without the approval of Congress and Republicans lack the spine to stand up to them.

      • Agreed, a President cannot pass laws, though he/she can issue executive orders re: the ATF that can be a pain in the ass for gun owners. As far as actual bans on types of guns that can be owned, that would take legislation passed by both the House and Senate, so if Hillary wins then keeping both in Republican majorities would prevent that.

        The real danger is that the next president will appoint at least one and (especially if it is Hillary) up to four Supreme Court justices. Right now it is at 4-4 between those who voted to strike down the law in Heller, vs. those who want to reverse that decision.

  3. I know that for no fault of her’s, Giffords lost part of her brains. Quantity-wise, it was a small loss, but a big one in terms of percentage. But Kelly? Is this the best that America has? At least I thought that astronauts were supposed to have been smart. Then again, I thought that presidents were supposed to be smart, too.

      It’s not a question of smart or not smart. It’s a question of Statist/Collectivist vs Individualist.

      It has been said and written a lot that this election is less about “left – right” and more about “authoritarian – little-l-libertarian.”

      Kelly was an astronaut…he has been employed by the government and has received a government paycheck – and bought into the lies of that environment. So has his wife. They are both steeped in the mindset that all solutions, all progress (eg, space exploration), comes from the top down.

      Read their various quotes. Everything they say is about .gov providing solutions while ignoring personal responsibility, and more importantly, those who would CHOOSE personal responsibility over being mere chattel for the likes of them to ‘consume.’

      • What you say is true. However, he also took an oath of office to ‘support and defend the Constitution of the United States’ several times during his career as a Naval Officer. This SHOULD mean something but it obviously doesn’t. He’s no better than a tin-pot dictator wanna-be from some backwater swamp.

          Just pointing out that being willfully treasonous does not make him ‘not smart.’ Intelligent deception can be dangerous, and Kelly’s dreams for our future are exactly that: dangerous.

          There’s more truth to that than you may realize. Fighter jocks and Astronauts are intelligent, you have to have that to operate in that environ.

          There’s something more important that NASA looks for; Is the astronaut candidate a team player?

          Naval aviators and astronauts are disposable. They know this. The mission is far more important than any of the crew members. They want in that job someone who WILL NOT QUIT, *EVER*.

          It’s the same personality type that Navy SEALs are known for, and two astronauts are in fact ex-Navy SEALs.

          It’s no coincidence…

        • I have personally known a number of officers. I would say that their high integrity level starts to take a dive right around colonel/Navy captain level. By the time they get a star, the integrity is left way behind.

      • No, I grow weary of that Randian “collectivist vs. statist” argument. It’s one of those things that makes us feel like we’re thinking and understanding, even when we’re not. It also doesn’t convince anyone who isn’t already convinced.

        The explanation may be as simple as this:

        Odds are that Kelly never devoted much thought to the issue of gun control. Suddenly his wife was attacked and suffered grievous bodily injury by someone using a firearm. Given the social and political circles they run in, a steady stream of people who apparently wish to help, point out that he could help stop things like this in future (he is a man of some knowledge and accomplishment, and was unable to stop an attack on his wife, after all – what man worthy of the title wouldn’t feel regret and guilt and desire to atone over that,) and all he has to do is stump for them on the gun control issue. He’s a can-do kind of guy (you don’t become an astronaut otherwise,) so naturally he throws himself into the task.

        That doesn’t make him right, but it does make him more understandable.

        • An impulsive person’s initial response may have been as you described it. But I don’t think that astronauts are impulsive and in any case he had years to weigh the issue. I would agree that the canon fodder does not parse the world into Randian terms, but their leadership certainly does.

        • Johannes, Agreed. People do things for reasons. They may be the wrong reasons, the reasoning may not hold to scrutiny, the reasoning may be bat-guano crazy, but they almost always have a reason.

          Alexander, I think you ascribe a bit too much ability to emotionally detach from his wife. That, and once you start a train rolling, with money and fame at every whistle-stop, it seriously discourages one from thinking about getting off, let alone why you’re on the train at all.

          Here’s the thing: if your persuasive argument hinges on trashing the Astronaut profession, and you’re in America, that dog ain’t going to hunt. If you throw in Randian rhetoric in addition to all that, not only won’t the dog hunt, he’s going to take a crap in your hunting cabin and go to sleep while you’re out shivering in a duck blind.

  5. Never ceists to amaze me the creativity of public servants when a career ends, adopt a new cause, obtain funding and be perfectly content to work denying citizens their natural and constitutionally protected rights. Hopefully, noting a lost cause on November 9th their funding is withdrawn.

  6. I attended a panel discussion headed by Mark and Gabby at the VA State Capitol, with a group of VCDL members. We were all carrying and all wearing our orange “Guns Save Lives” buttons. The VCDL was not allow a place on the panel, nor were we allowed to speak or ask questions. So much for 1A! Mark and Gabby did come over to us specifically and introduce themselves. They were very gracious and assured us that they support the RTKABA.

    Then the panel discussion started and the whole RTKABA thing went to hell in a handbasket. Here’s what they want and they made it very clear.

    > “Assault rifle” ban and mag limits, of course

    > The no-fly list, of course

    > Documentation, under penalty of law against the owner, of every single change in gun ownership. That means sale, gift, inheritance, theft, loss, build, etc.

    > “The California Plan” for guns and mental health. Anyone who knows a gun owner could go to the authorities and claim someone is mentally unstable and a danger to themselves or others. A judge can then order suspension of gun rights for up to a year without due process and direct LE to confiscate that person’s guns and any other guns in their house, because the person in question could have access to them. Get this: Mental health professionals can NOT be involved, because they don’t want to get into the problems of patient confidentiality and malpractice. So not only is there no due process, the determination of mental issues is done by amateurs, by design. This could be SWATTING on a whole new level.

  7. Make no mistake: all this gun ____ (control, safety, reform, etc.) activity is about squashing the political enemies of Progressive ideology, nothing more and nothing less.

    Whether Progressives want to use firearm laws as a tool to silence/imprison their political opposition or Progressives figure that they must neuter firearm owners before using their firearms and force to halt Progressive ideology is neither here nor there.

    Right now, Progressives want to hall all of our firearms away on trains to be eliminated. After that, Progressives will want to hall all of their political enemies away on trains to be eliminated.

      • We haven’t kept anything. So far it’s just talk. As a group we speak against the cops as the henchmen of the .gov. Yet when the 8%ers act out we back the cops. If the outspoken cop haters that comment here were serious they would be in the streets adding to the 8%.

        And if they’re not serious then the 8%ers are going to control it all. After all, they have 5% more than the legendary 3%.

        Or maybe its time to admit that we aren’t nearly as rebellious or fed up as our rhetoric implies.
