“I kind of think that our forefathers would not have ok’d automatic weapons to be sold to everybody if they existed back then. Let’s have some checks. It’s easier to get a gun than it is to get a driver’s license. It’s insane. And as somebody who’s had a family member shot and killed, it devastates me every time I read about this stuff— like what happened in Orlando— and then it’s even more devastating to see the government just cowing to the NRA and going to this totally outdated Bill Of Rights, right to bear arms. If you want to own a musket, fine, you know, but come on. The rest of the world thinks we’re insane. We are insane.” – Steve Kerr in Warriors coach Steve Kerr on gun control: ‘Our government is insane’ [via usatoday.com]

    • Exactly. I hope that pro-sports groups keep pushing gun control, “trans” issues, etc and get Americans to finally drop their addiction to paying people with no useful skills millions of dollars per year to play a kids game.

      • Indeed. I stopped watching the NBA entirely this year after the league officially came out in favor of coed bathrooms during the Target dust-up. I noticed that while they may be all for “equality” in Target’s restrooms, they have not integrated the NBA and the women’s league, demonstrating once again the blatant hypocrisy of the progressive left. I spent the time I would’ve been watching hoops focusing instead on my family and we’re all better off for it.

        • They can integrate the NBA and the WNBA and it will still look like the NBA unless they institute a requirement to have a certain number or percentage of women on the team.

        • …unless they institute a requirement to have a certain number or percentage of women on the team.

Of course, that’s exactly what “equality” looks like on college campuses, fire departments, police departments and anywhere else the unequal outcomes that would exist by default lead to uncomfortable conclusions.

Personally, I look forward to the day when 50% of NFL team rosters are required to be filled with women. (/s)

        • I’m thinking about declaring myself trans and trying out for a WNBA team. Could you imagine the feminist outrage if a “good-in-college-but-not-NBA-good” male player declared trans and completely destroyed an entire league of players? Who’s side would the internet be on?

        • I haven’t watched the NBA since Kerr backed up Jordan. What a whiny bunch him and his “record setting” team are. Comparing themselves to the 90’s Bulls is absurd-Jordan played half dead and Rodman played with 8 broken fingers. Curry couldn’t carry their jock strap’s-Cleveland rocks!

      • I have stopped spending money on pro sports. I watched them because I enjoyed the competition. What i do not enjoy is being called “insane” by those people when they include things like “outdated Bill of Rights.” My rights are not outdated. He may be willing to give up his rights, but I sure as hell am not giving up mine.

    • Our national obsession with professional athletics is nauseating. If all the people who spend their entire lives listening to “sports talk” radio and watching ESPN would divert maybe 5% of that time to learning a little History, we would be a lot better off.

      • Celebrity worship is one of the things destroying our nation.

When a popular actor, coach, or teen pop icon’s opinion of your constitutional rights matters, it’s a problem

      • Sounds like someone showed him the stats showing NBA players are only slightly less violent than NFL players.

Given the team’s location (Oakland) and the fact that it’s pretty much a war zone (save for the hills, ‘natch) the propensity for pro athletes to be nothing more than thugs who can play a child’s game very well might be scaring the coach.

      • Actors and professional athletes are literal clowns. They just need to shut up and dance for our amusement. If they can’t even go that right what good are they?

    • What is truly insane is listening to a rich, pampered Bay Area basketball coach mouth off about the Second Amendment. I don’t give a rat’s ass what he thinks, just as I don’t care what some foreigner thinks about my right to keep and bear arms. Just another reason why I’ve tuned out the NBA.

  1. Who gives a damn what some sportsball nobody has to say about constitutional rights just because they scare him.

  2. Just a thought, but maybe if his family member would have been packing, a lot like orlando, the situation May have had a different outcome, not to mention he doesn’t say why the family member was shot, what did they do to provoke being killed? Can’t tease the dog and not expect to be bitten.

    • Kerr’s father was assassinated by terrorists in Beirut after he took a high profile and high risk job as head of a university.

His personal tragedy had nothing to do with US gun control.

      • Nothing to do with gun control except that he has joined the out-of-your-damn-mind POS (D) gun-grabber club.

They all need to have all of their rights taken away. They could defend their rights, and themselves, if they had guns, so they’ll need to lose them first. Wait, that sounds like what they’re trying. . .

Liberals_progressives_communists need to leaned on similarly, they started it, they are the moving party.

  3. Everybody says that the government is cowtowing, bowing down, taking bribes from, the NRA, and yet I don’t see things just breezing our way. How do these people even believe the sewage that is coming out of their mouths?

    • I couldn’the agree more. I feel the NRA is the monstrous powerhouse that is running the world, why can’t I buy a suppressor or machine gun with no waiting period. More lies covered with more lies by people who just want to control others.

  4. Did you ever think maybe we should fix the DMV then?
This whole meme is washed out. Do you need a State issued picture id to get your Driver’s License? I doubt it, but I need one to buy a gun.

    • Really, you need one to get the other so how could it be easier to get the latter than the former?

    • Not to mention that the Puckle gun (essentially the first machine gun) and the Girandoni rifle (first “high capacity” semi-auto rifle) existed before the Constitution was written and they were well aware of where gun technology was headed.

      • Or how most, if not all, cannons and artillery were privately owned and borrowed by the Continental Army, then returned once the war was won?

      • What they really never envisioned is a government big enough to even claim it was capable of ensuring the safety of it’s citizens.

  5. Explaining the birds and the bees about gun control laws not applying to the licensed security guard psychokiller to mind-numbed lefties always brings up the response, ” Yea, but …”

  6. He is correct that we are insane (keep reading and hear this out).

We are insane that we overvalue feelings above rational thought or logic. This is why a Milwaukee woman recently added to the FBI’s Most Wanted list, kills a 9 month pregnant neighbor over loud music.

This is why the DOJ says we may never know Omar Mateen’s motive even though he called 911 and gave his motive, pledging allegiance to ISIS.

This is why we won’t make any changes to urban failing schools where 0% of the students can read or do math at grade level, hereby sentencing them to life in poverty with no ability to get out of poverty.

This is why our precious government knowingly lies about 4 Americans left to die in Libya, blaming a Youtube video and no one is fired or removed from office.

Quit your whining because you lost the championship Steve. I don’t care about your family tragedy because the rest of the world doesn’t care about it, including your allies like Moms Demand Assassination of Gun Owners in America and Everytown for Gun Confiscation. Don’t believe me? I don’t see those groups holding rallies on Chicago’s south side, do you?

  7. I wonder how many beta boys existed when the country was formed.
    What has happened to people?
Alot of folks living in a dream state.

  8. “In other news . . . roughly 300 million guns in the possession of law-abiding American citizens weren’t used to perpetrate a crime yesterday. We’ll keep you updated as this story develops further. Back to you, Steve.”

  9. You would think a guy who lost his father to Jihadists would be a little more focused on the terrorism angle of the Orlando shooting.

    • Well, he does hold a Bachelor’s degree in “General Studies”, aka, athlete’s curriculum, so who are we to challenge his command of Colonial era political philosophy?

  10. Ah yes, the media is keeping the gun control hysteria up to keep distracting the lowest common denominator from questioning why the Omar investigation was stopped and why there was a 3-hour police response in Orlando…

Yet another opinion of an emotionally compromised person that has no grasp of the reality of the topic. How about those journalistic sources. It’s akin to asking homeless people their opinion of the real estate market. No context.

    This is my surprised face.

  11. Most all high profile team sports in the US have a problem, not a gun problem, but a crime problem. The NBA and the NFL must come down against guns as a way to deflect attention and blame away from their teams whenever one of their criminally inclined team members shots someone in a bar or at an intersection. If you don’t like their behavior and attitude, stop watching what they offer.

  12. “It’s easier to get a gun than it is to get a driver’s license.” I’m amazed at how many times this gets repeated. Why should it be hard for a presumptive law-abiding citizen to purchase and possess a legal commodity? Think about this: the combination of Form 4473 and having to pass a NICS background check create a rebuttable presumption that you ARE a prohibited person. To obtain a firearm, YOU have the burden to PROVE you are not: under penalty of perjury affirm you do not fall into any of the categorizes of prohibited persons AND pass a background check. No other exercise of a constitutional right is so restricted.

  13. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting something else to happen…just food for thought…

  14. People like him act like gun violence is spiraling out of control. When in reality it’s on a steady decline. That is NEVER brought up when people call for more gun laws, etc.

  15. Somewhere, I believe it is Nevada, politicians and some team owner are preparing to rip the citizens of Nevada for $750,000,000 to build a sports stadium. Most pro team owners are at least billionaires. They should have to pay for their own stadiums. Sad part is there might be some resistance but people will eventually cave and cough it up. In other news many uninformed anti-gunners such as Mr. Kerr like to proclaim that the rest of the world thinks we are crazy. Apparently Mr. Kerr has, somehow, never heard of places like Darfur, Iraq, Libya, Pakistan, the dispute between India and Pakistan which has come within inches of going nuclear over a piece of ground. I could go on but it makes me really tired. “Trust in God but brand your calves.”

    • and pro sports have tax payers funding their players initial training. Every high school in America is a training ground for future pro athletes. At the tax payers expense. How much taxpayers dollars are spent at the high school and collage level grooming the few that will actually play pro sports? And how much of that is paid by the teams?

    • Unfortunately, Mr. Kerr cannot even claim ignorance of these things. He grew up in Lebanon, went to college in Egypt, and lived and travelled in other Middle Eastern countries with his father (who was murdered by Islamic Jihad, by the way).

So he knows what brutality is out there. He just buys into the fairy tale that “it can’t happen here” and pontificates on such from the security of his mansion guarded by men with guns in his employ.

  16. And as somebody who’s had a family member shot and killed, it devastates me every time I read about this stuff
    ————————-
Because Gun Control in the United States would have somehow magically prevented your father, who was born and raised in Beirut, and was the President of the American University in Beirut , from being assassinated by Islamic Jihad outside his office in BEIRUT?

Kerr is deliberately misleading people, like anti-gun people do in general, because he understands that most people don’t know his father was targeted by assassins in Beirut and was shot in the head twice with suppressed weapons. Literally, his death had nothing remotely to do with any gun control.

  17. How does Kerr’s father being killed by Islamic terrorists in Lebanon mean that the 2nd amendment in the US is wrong?

“Kerr’s father was shot and killed by Iranian-backed Islamists while teaching at the American University in Beirut in 1984.”
    http://www.breitbart.com/california/2016/06/27/warriors-coach-blasts-congress-not-banning-automatic-weapons/

“Malcolm Kerr, then president of the American University of Beirut, was gunned down by Islamic terrorists in the hallway outside his office. Kerr had been at the university for 16 months when he was killed by two shots from a revolver on the morning of Jan. 18, 1984.”

  18. Oh well another BULLshite former athlete…thanks for being a bit player on the Jordanaires. Happy yer team choked. Coming from a gang member thug league too. Stick to basketball-pretty dang stupid otherwise. How many of yer thugs are packin’? Or protected by those evil gunz?

  19. I actually love basketball, and loved watching the Warriors the last few years. Always liked Steve Kerr, as well. Everytime I see someone I enjoy watching starting to talk about guns, I cringe because 99% of the time it comes from a place of total ignorance.

I do always wonder, though, why does anyone care what a basketball coach, or actor, or reality show personality, or talk show host, or anyone else outside of the subject matter has to say about anything outside of their field of expertise. I really don’t care what my mechanic says about the stock market, or what my doctor says about drywall. Local news stations take those “man on the street” interviews about complicated subjects and present them as fact all the time. Just seems so irrelevant.

  20. Cut him some slack. He’s just depresed because his team, the team with the best record in NBA history, lost the finals after being up 3-1 to a city that hadn’t had a championship in 52 years. Oh and no team had ever come back from a 3-1 deficit.GO CAVS!!!!!!

  21. “I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue! ”

This isn’t about children’s games little boy.

  22. That’s too bad. Being raised in CA makes it hard to think straight on the history of our government, liberty, and rights, I suppose.

  23. “I kind of think that our forefathers would not have ok’d automatic weapons to be sold to everybody if they existed back then.”

He’s not a total lost cause. He only “kind of thinks”…

I know for a fact that the founders wanted the best weapons they could get even as civilians in order to guarantee individual freedom and liberty and protection of property and pursuit of happiness.

We are free when our privately owned “weapons of war” collect dust. It took those weapons to get to that point and in order to maintain peace, we need to retain the right to keep and bear arms. Arms. Not specific for a reason. THAT is what the 2nd Amendment meant to the founders and what it will always hold true.

  24. Our government is insane

Is this the same government he thinks should have a monopoly on armed force, or a different one?

  25. After watching Cleveland shutdown Golden State in the last 4 minutes of game 7, I’d say Kerr is the last person in the world to be commenting on defense, personal or otherwise.

  26. And I give a Rat’s A** what a BASKETBALL COACH thinks about anything but basketball exactly why? He’s paid a small fortune to form a bunch of overpaid prima donnas into something resembling teamwork, that’s it. He may have valid views on a lot of things, but don’t try to sell them to me because he’s some overpaid hotshot coach.

  27. We can all speculate on what our founding fathers would or would not have done. For example, it is very unlikely they would have supported the privately owned central banking structure we have today. It’s very unlikely they would have supported the mega doping of our citizenry with psychotropic drugs. It’s very unlikely they would have supported government control over individuals health care choices. The list is massive. But based on the Federalist Papers and the writings of our founding fathers Kerr is very likely wrong in his assumption.

  28. “Outdated Bill of Rights”…

Tell me again why I should care about the ignorant opinions of an imbecile who directs felons on how to chase an inflated animal skin…

  29. If you told a grizzly bear that he should file down his teeth and have his claws removed, the bear’s way of telling you that you’re insane would be to eat you.

See how much more evolved gun owners are?

  30. Best quote I ever heard from a coach at any level was by Phil Jackson. A reporter asked him what he had to say to parents complaining about buying the new Jordan Jersey as Mike switched his number after coming out of retirement. Jackson said buy books instead. That was about 20 yrs ago.

A neighbor stopped by and we got to talking guns. At the end he asked if me and the Mrs would take his wife and teen daughter out shooting sometime in the future. “You betcha.”

  31. “I kind of think that our forefathers would not have ok’d automatic weapons to be sold to everybody if they existed back then.”

Go read something written by our forefathers instead of just assuming WTF they thought, the federalist papers maybe and just possibly, you might have a thought of your very own afterwards.

Yes, you are insane. I guess that totally “outdated” piece of paper that is protecting all the stupid shit you say is something you want to remove. Good lord, at what point did we start caring about coaches and when theyre not talking about sports. Bread and circuses…

EDIT: Apparently his team choked in the finals (dont want sports much), GOOD!

  32. Coach Kerr, please stick with what you know, which is sports. Last I checked, politically correct freakazoids like you only know about 2A is the tired and illogical b.s. the left keeps feeding you. So please, shut it.

  33. The rest of the world thinks we’re insane. ******* Which part of the world is that, the part whose government treats it people like subjects, or the part that beheads innocent people, or the part whose majority population lives in poverty,or the part whose corrupt government trades in drugs, arms, and human trafficing?

    • Or the part of the world that says a woman is raped only if there are 4 witnesses, and she cannot be raped by her husband. Or the parts where Christians are decapitated, or crucified upside down if they don’t immediately convert to islam (I will never capitalize that religion). I’m sure Tom and I could go on and on for days countering you liberals that think love and jobs will win over these Islamic nuts.

  34. Maybe someone who doesn’t know the difference between semi-automatic and automatic, and who is abysmally ignorant of the actual laws concerning automatic firearms, should indeed just “stick to sports”.

  35. Isn’t amazing how many celebrities don’t realize that an AR15 is NOT an automatic weapon? Dumbbutts! And did you know that it is easier for a good college basketball player to get a Bachelor’s degree than to get his driver’s license?

  36. And another thing. All these blowhard we keep seeing on TV wanting to restrict guns. I’d like to put them in a 5,000 acre Forrest with any weapons they want and tell them they must survive for a month. Make sure the woods has a mountain lion or a bear as well as sustainable food. I bet they would be tapping out in 3 days or less. And I double my bet they would want one of those weapons from Hell, the assault rifle after they caught sight of the cougar.

  37. I am so sick and tired of these gun control, tree hugging, don’t cut dead tree s or clear old growth but let the taxpayer buy me a new house when a wildfire burns mine down, climate change is totally man made cause Algore says, Obama does not smoke bongs in the Whitehouse, fracking is bad, wind and solar power can supply all energy we need, drive electric cars cause they don’t have a carbon footprint, progressive liberals. It’s enough to make me want to puke my guts up
