While I do agree they are likely wrong to target her image, she is one odd looking bird. She looks like she either has some sort of chest deformity or is hiding something other than just breast. I agree Cecil, it is interesting though that the very first response to your comment essentially ignores your idea and steers the discussion right back to the lady’s appearances. I have a dog that when she gets fixated on a squirrel up a tree, you cannot get her to move on without physically removing her from the tree, even when the squirrel isn’t in the tree anymore. Will we as a group be able to get back on subject without being removed from this tree?

But you are missing one major point–our weirdoes (and I am one) want us all to leave each other alone–to be weird in the manner(s) of our choosing.
This weirdo wants other weirdoes to pass laws requiring us to conform to their standards.
What’s more, the weirdoes passing the laws will hire other weirdoes to enforce the law using the violent, coercive power of government. She isn’t just fat, she’s violent. She deserves derision and open contempt. Forgiveness too, but having put herself in the public view she should be publicly called out for what she is.
I see flat out overweight vs tall and goofy-looking with skinny arms and a spare tire. Neither is a physical specimen.

Human dignity demands that a person not be required to retreat in the face of aggression. The citizen going about their lawful business should have the protection of the law and the right to respond to such aggression with any and all force needed. The citizen, whether a sworn officer or soccer mom running errands, should have a choice of the tools to respond with without undo government red tape or interference.

I have heard that argument many times from gun banners. They seem to think that criminals have a code of honor, and are still out there just to have a good old fashioned fight. They seem to refuse to believe that you may be killed under such circumstances, even though it happens in the news every day.

I used to tell people something similar but after taking a blunt metal object repeatedly to the head from behind and having my brain permanently scrambled; I no longer espouse that foolish and dangerous opinion. Think it through; one is relying on the other person to make compassionate judgment calls regarding the effect each strike will have upon the other. If the attacker had your health in mind, he wouldn’t be hitting you in the first place. I learned my lesson the hard way. Don’t buy into that rubbish. It could easily get you permanently disabled or killed.

John, you make an excellent point. Let me illustrate further: In any MMA fight the opponents have no criminal intent and often actually like, admire and/or respect each other. Nevertheless, the referee is always there to stop the fight when one fighter is down and no longer able to mount a defense. The “winner”, in the heat of the moment, is in most cases intent on pressing the advantage to ultimate victory and less able to respond to the distress of the loser, hence the interference by the ref to stop the fight.
On the street the aggressor has no feelings for the victim one way or the other and the referee (law enforcement) is quite often NOT in the ring with you. Your sidearm is your ref. Without that you just get pounded into the pavement until your attacker is too tired to continue.

This isn’t a new law, this isn’t the first time its been before a legislative body. Florida enacted this model of SYG in 2005 and since then there have been 75 cases of justifiable homicide because of it. That is roughly 10 a year, hardly the anarchy people fear.

Unfortunately people can not give up what they never had. Critical thinking is a skill that must be learned and most people never are in an environment where it is taught. I teach college seniors and it is staggering sometimes how few of them are able to make the simple connections between events.

I prefer my crossdraw to be concealed. As much time as I spend sitting while driving and what-not, concealed crossdraw makes much more sense in my world. I have extra-long arms with a relatively shorter torso. Draw from the 4oclock is like trying to pull out of my armpit and it’s impossible while seated with a seatbelt in the way.
Big Government, like any enterprise, wants to drive out competition. The only difference is that the Government may do so at gunpoint. If Ford Motor Company had this power, it would forbid the use of bicycles and would even forbid walking to work. The Government doesn’t want you defending yourself because that’s their job.
The same power of coercion allows them to do a really crappy job defending you because you don’t have any choice to go somewhere else. Again, if Ford Motor Company could lock you up for buying a competitor’s car, then Ford would have no incentive for building decent cars.
You know, I’m really disappointed that there are so many comments that focus on this woman’s looks, and not her position. What the hell does it matter what she looks like? If she was solidly pro SYG, would you be mocking her appearance? Should we mock Nugent for looking like crazy looking fashion reject most of the time too?
Attack the argument, not the person. Gun control advocates do that when they mock our entire way of life and suggest that we’re all drooling, toothless redneck idiots. If all you can do is mock someone, you’ve lost the argument before it’s even begun, and you’ll never show them that their position is wrong, and change their mind to a right way of thinking.
We need to be better than that if we’re going to change some minds. 5M people out of 80M or so gun owners are members of the NRA. One of these days congress is going to realize what a small number that is out of 280M voters, and stop being so afraid. We need more public on our side to keep our rights from being stolen away. That’s not going to happen if we can only mock our opponents.
When was the last time 280 million voters turned out? There is 314 million U.S. Citizens including those under 18. Besides, even if all gun owners aren’t NRA members, they are more likely to vote that way. Ask those 2 peckerwoods that just got recalled in Colorado.
It doesn’t matter whether they turn out or not. First of all, not all NRA members are Republicans. Second of all, 5M is still a paltry number, and it’s the lobby that scares legislators, not a number of gun owners that, by polls, has been shrinking for the last 30 years because fewer of us are likely to honestly respond to those polls for fear of going into a database somewhere. And perception is reality in politics.
The two Colorado people were recalled based in no small part to millions of dollars of out of state money poured into the effort. If Bloomberg and pals, and the NRA and it’s friends, had stayed out of it, both of them might very well have still been in office. And it still will have no effect on those laws as their replacements won’t turn the tide in the state legislature. When they vote out enough people to change the makeup of the legislature, then there will have been something significant happen. Until then, it was a moral victory that’s been blown out of proportion and nothing more.
And again…the point is, don’t denigrate your opponents. Denigrate their position. When you get personal, they don’t give a damn what you have to say, and you’ll never change their minds. And before you say that you never will no matter what, recall that 2 pissed off women started a movement that completely changed the national outlook on drunk driving AND managed to change the national speed limit for a number of years, pushing what was, at that time, a very unpopular viewpoint. We absolutely can change the minds of the anti-gun crowd. But we’re never going to do it be being assholes.
You are throwing spaghetti on the wall with some many areas. I will address only 3 things. What makes the NRA and GOA effective is the fact they are made up of members that are proactive and have a vested interest at whats on the line. Also, the NRA wasn’t the organizer for the Colorado recall. Lastly, it was bigger than you think because it showed that punks like Morse can’t make comments about ignoring constituents, especially when going against majority opinions on something as important as the 2nd A. To build a building, you have to lay a solid foundation.
BTW, there is a recall effort for a 3rd Colorado state senator.

I disagree the Colorado Clowns that got recalled only had a fight because bloomers dropped hundreds of thousands on their fight that was very much a local fight of angry voters….. the senate dem’s should be taking note…..
If you had actually taken the time to watch the Colorado recall fight play out you would have seen:
– Annoyed locals organizing for and collecting ballot signatures
– The NRA (and other 2A orgs) endorsements
– The BSM picking up and warping the story (to include creating the “NRA started the recall” myth)
– MAIG and Nanny Bloomie (and later “me too” MAGgots) pouring words and cash into the state
– The “PLEASE don’t help” plea from the CO Infringement Lobby
– The recall election
I wish we had this course of action available in Maryland, the Formerly Free State.

Well, they are making progress (they’re Progressives, after all) – in the ’60s they were all about total pacifism. You were just supposed to give them whatever they wanted, no argument. If what they wanted was to beat you, rape you or kill you the proper response was to simply go passive and accept it. Fighting back under any circumstances was just lowering yourself to their (ugh) level! We were supposed to be BETTER than them.
At least now they are admitting that we have the option to turn around and try to run away.
I also recall that in the 60s these were the drugged out high school and college (and some life) dropouts that settled into the original hotbeds of liberalism and promptly went on welfare and/or died of disease and overdoses in their Worker’s Paradise urban communes. They spawned another generation with the same life philosophy (“look at me! I’m the most special snowflake EVER! Now do what I say and gimme free money and stuff! You MUST do as I say; I’m special!).
That’s what we’re stuck with – two generations (and spawning) of dropouts. They even went so far as to elect some of their number to state and Federal office, which is why the country’s in this mess now.
