“Beyond that table was one that displayed hunting rifles and shotguns, all of which would satisfy the right to bear arms as contemplated by the Founding Fathers and were more than adequate for self-defense. Maybe call these long guns DRs, for defense rifle. But they lack the military hoo-hah that apparently makes ARs—the A seeming to stand for arousal as well as assault—popular with boys who never quite grow up. DRs also lack the capacity for mass carnage that make ARs the favorite of terrorists and murderous madmen.” That right there – mooted by Daily Beast writer Michael Daly in his post Where Mass Murderers’ Weapons of Choice Are Sold With a Smile – is some supremely ignorant “information.” What’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever heard someone say about a gun or guns?

  1. I wonder if the people killed and wounded in the Navy Yard shooting agree about shotguns not being able to inflict “mass carnage”.

    • DRs also lack the capacity for mass carnage that make ARs the favorite of terrorists and murderous madmen.”
As you stated, other guns such as the 870 is more than adequate in the hands of a nut behind the butt to create mass carnage.

    • I seem to recall some years ago a deranged man killed a bunch of Amish girls in their schoolroom using a DR shotgun. I guess researching your topic is too much trouble for these people.

Also, the A in AR does not stand for either arousal OR assault, it stands for Armalite Rifle.

And the A in AK does not stand for Assault Kalishnakov, it stands for Avtomat (automatic).

  2. I think it was that US Representative (I think) who asserted that once you fired the bullets out of a magazine, it was of no further use. Not just the level of ignorance, but the position of the source and her assumption that what she was saying was somehow important. I may have lost consciousness, I was so stunned at that quantity of stupidity without a team effort.

        • “If you ban them in the future, the number of these high capacity
magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time, because THE
BULLETS WILL HAVE BEEN SHOT, AND THERE WON’T BE ANY MORE AVAILABLE!”

    • And to think at the time she made that statement, she’d already been working on that legislation FOR OVER TWO YEARS! If she has no clue after working on it for two years, then there’s no hope for her figuring this out……ever. Clueless.

    • Oh yeah, that’s Diana DeGette, a Democratic Representative from Denver, CO.
She wants to ban high-capacity magazines, but she has absolutely no clue how they work.

The audible laughter from the crowd is amazing.

  3. “There is no such thing as a defensive gun use” David Hemenway, Ph.D., of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

  4. CNN HOST
“That’s the thing, manufacturers make it that way so with the bullet button, it turns it into an illegal automatic”

      • The guy I *heard* say that on FOX was Bret Baier, dunno if he was quoting someone else, like Gutfeld. But Gutfeld has struck me in the past as someone who actually knows a bit about guns, I kinda doubt that it was him. To their credit, they were advising that they were going to clarify some statements which might have been misunderstood, or some such blather, within about a half-hour. To cancel that credit, I watched for several more hours, determined to hear what that clarification (of blatant nonsense) was going to be, and finally they came up with about 2 more sentences which clarified nothing. And on that subject, from other sources I gathered that the horrible deadly dangerous illegal modifications the killers made were removal of the bullet button and adding vertical foregrips and standard capacity magazines. But I am still hearing that the guns were select fire, which I really, really doubt. Does anybody know? Some jackass on TV the other day was on and on about how easy it is to convert an AR to select fire, I wish someone would try it before they tell us how easy it is!

        • I don’t recall the “news” station I heard say it but somebody, when referencing the bullet button and the posable mods they may have made, said something along the lines of removing the bullet button allowed the use of standard cap magazines instead of the neutered 10 rounders. The more you know…..

      • I was thinking the CO legislator saying they should ban “high capacity” magazines because when you shoot all the bullets out of them, there are no more left. Not only ignorant but also shows the desire to ban them altogether.

But the bullet buttons turning rifles into (il)legal automatics? I had somehow missed that one.

    • My God that was painful. The thing that goes up, large capacity clips, and banning things that she doesn’t even know what they are.

    • This poor, hapless, woman instantly became a poster child for what Dana Loesch calls “weapons ignorance”. But of course being that stupid didn’t stop her from passing herself off as having knowledge.

  5. From my entry above.
    In defense California rules.
Automatic is illegal, non fixed mags illegal, bullet button defeats fixed mag intent, ergo bullet button defeats every rule, turns semi into full automatic, duh
    Can’t you follow simple logic

  6. Notable in the article- pictures of post ’86 machine guns with $1,500.00 price tags.
Items with lots of paperwork and special licensing attached to them.

      • My “friend” told me he doesn’t think people should have guns because…..well……he just doesn’t like them.
I had been drinking, and I started laughing at him. The more I laughed the angrier he got. I told him he didn’t have to like them; just stay out of our business. Our friendship took a hit that day.

        • Now see there’s where you went wrong, you had the perfect opportunity to demonstrate to your friend exactly why law-abiding citizens should be armed but let it get away. The conversation should have been escalated until he showed what we all know, those with no “impulse control” (Liberals) or short tempers routinely resort to physically attacks when losing an argument had he battered you in a fury which would’ve required you to “defend” yourself with a firearm your point would have been made crystal clear.

  7. While colossally stupid, this doesn’t rise to the level of idiocy displayed by Diana Degette and Ed Perlmutter discussing magazine capacity limits and how a pistol-grip allows a shooter to “spray a room”.

  8. Soooo many strong contenders for that title. The winner for me might be any of the variations of “An AR has no use beyond killing as many human beings as possible in the shortest amount of time possible.”

Aside from the myopia that observation expresses, it’s also shockingly silent as to why every city cop in a cruiser on tax collector duty for the welfare state, er, I mean, traffic control watch, would need such a vile weapon.

    • I was working on the morning of the North Hollywood shootout. Some (very large) LE agencies possessed but did not field HBARs. The reason being “they looked too intimidating to the public.” A certain LE agency had officers go to a local gun store and “borrow” various rifles to bring to the fight, since going to the station and retrieving them from their locked up condition would have taken much longer. The HBARs were fielded in patrol cars after that.

  9. Oooh-there are SO many. It wasn’t Greg Guttfeld who said that stupid shite. He’s maybe the best FOX guy. From nobody needs more than 10(or 5 or 3) rounds, no one hunts with an AR, Ar stands for assault rifle, guns should be treated just like cars, why do you NEED a gun, “what are you afraid of”?, the small weiner thing, “if ya’ have a gun you’ll shoot yourself/wife/girlfriend/kids”, a bad guy will just grab your gun and shoot you, “the 556/223 is the most deadly round on earth and blah blah blah.

  10. The stupidest things I had been taught to believe about guns by my liberal/progressive environment growing up is that carrying a gun will cause two things. It will either make me more homicidal and cause me to shoot someone for cutting me off in traffic, or, since I’m being paranoid and fearful for carrying a gun; it will attract a confrontation to me that would not happen if I was not carrying a gun. Like attracts like, after all.

So by liberal/progressive doctrine, It is actually a “law of the universe” that by thinking good thoughts and by NOT carrying a gun, I will create a repellent field that will protect me from becoming a target of a human predator.

Seriously, this is common accepted “wisdom” of the liberal/progressive left. This is the type of delusional if not down right certifiable so called thought process when it comes to the question of “gun violence”.

And this is why logic, fact, history and experience has not one whit of the ability to change the mind of a dyed in the wool, progressive: since none of what they believe is based on any type of actual reality of human motivation.

    • He started off by saying they used semi-automatic rifles, then somehow got lost in never-never land over bullet buttons. To present such pure balderdash with absolute zero research, obviously, in such a know-it-all manner, is unforgivable.

      • These guys posted a clever video that’s causing clueless, anti-gun fuckwits to totally lose their shit.. I don’t know if this started it, or was a response to the claim that bullet buttons make rifles fire full auto. It’s hilarious either way, as long as you have a basic knowledge of how an M-16 actually functions.

  11. By golly, I think I found the mother lode! By accident no less.
For some good chuckles, pretty much anything this person says.
For instance, if she sees an open carrier, she’s going to pepper spray them, take their gun and hold them for police.
Or filing down the firing pin on an AR makes it go full auto… Priceless.

I don’t do Twitter, but you can read and have a good laugh.

    • I tried Tom. I really did. I got to the “ban bullet buttons because it makes guns deadlier” post and I just couldn’t take that level of full retard any more.

      • Still, shouldn’t we all wholeheartedly support the banning of bullet buttons? How about a letter-writing campaign to CA legislators demanding repeal of the entire bill which mandated (we can say “allowed”) bullet buttons, and let them stew with that a while.

        • Well, a campaign to end womens suffrage did well at CA universaties a while back. I’m game to give the bullet button ban thingy a try.

        • I agree. The problem is, as we all know, that these morons see bullet buttons as a “loophole” that violates the spirit of their otherwise perfect law that will save lives (pay no attention to San Bernardino)! Or something!

  12. Didn’t some official say something about the .500 S&W being a gangland weapon, and being able to shoot down airplanes?

    • As a Christian please accept my apology for the load of crap from that Piper.

As Dennis Prager says “God has common sense”. Piper demonstrated none of that.

  13. My dear old dad asking me why I don’t use the safety on my S&W Shield, because you know it might go off while you’re carrying it and then I told him it’s got a round in the pipe too. He really got excited about that, so I asked him about the safety on his revolver and why it had 6 rounds loaded and of course his answer was “that’s different”.

  14. Pretty much whatever is in the NY Daily News. It seems that each and every day they attempt to outdo their own crazy, unsupported positions.

  15. “Even though I know that having a gun makes me more likely to kill myself, I got one anyway.”

Not an exact quote, actually, but close enough.

  16. I was on VA gun trader the other day and somebody posted an ISO 9mm to defend my family. Some guy got on there and was talking about how many “clips” came with the pistol, another guy corrected him, and it turned into an entire thread calling each other f*ggots and such. It made that particular group of gun owners look like a bunch of rabid angry inbred idiots, which is exactly the stereotype we need to try to avoid.

  17. In general: “shot with an unloaded gun.”

Personal experience, probably “Honey, what happened to all the .45 ACP? Didn’t we just buy a case?”

  18. When people say “Your gun is statistically more likely to kill you or a family member than save you. So you’re putting yourself at risk by having one in the house.” Because they’re just wild animals right? You never know when they’re going to jump up and shoot you, so it’s safest to not have one.

  19. You dont have to aim a shotgun.
The sound of a pump action will cause…
If you cant do it with 5 or 6 you shouldn’t have a gun
    That caliber wont…
    This caliber will…
My uncle had a Glock 7 he brought back from…
    One shot stop
    I know what I’m doing I had hunter safety when I was…
    For the children
    Common sense
    I don’t need training I have been shooting since I was…
    I know what I’m doing
    All you gotta do is…
They will just shoot at the light

    • Not so stupid. That one has achieved a lot of insurance payments on what were actually suicides. Not exactly commendable, but not stupid, rather sly, in fact. Toss a bottle of Hoppes and a cleaning rod on the table before calling cops, and here comes the life insurance check, possible doubled because if “accidental death”.

    • Shooting yourself while cleaning a gun isn’t so far-fetched, given that one of the first steps in disassembling a Glock is “pull the trigger.” Yes, that step is preceded by “Ensure the gun is unloaded,” but not everyone follows directions.
Seriously, on one of the blogs I follow (I don’t have time to find the link, so just trust me. The first place I’d look is gunfreezone.net.), there was a posting about a man who did this: He ejected the magazine, then racked the slide to clear the chamber. However, instead of verifying that the chambered round dropped out of the gun, he just closed the slide. The loose round, still inside the gun, dropped back into the chamber. The Glock reloaded itself. Next, he opened the slide the same way he usually opens it, by placing the palm of his hand against the muzzle and pushing it back. The post included a picture of his hand with a bullet hole.

    • Well, if we’re going on beyond “about guns” to just general stupid statements, how about that old fart who proclaimed on national television that it was impossible to rape a woman who didn’t want it? I was surprised he survived to apologize.

  20. Mika Brzezinski: “Why are we allowed to have these weapons that blow up… literally blow up animals if you were hunting with them?”

  21. Mine is simply “I don’t believe in guns.”

This ain’t Santa Claus. Not believing in them ain’t gonna make them go away.

I usually ask them if they want me to prove their existence and the conversation goes downhill from there.

  22. If I ever have to pull it, some one is getting shot. Make sure you kill them than they cant testify. Drag them in the house. all you have to do is say I was in fear for my life and than you can just shoot any one.He was on my property.

    • “…all you have to do is say I was in fear for my life and then you can just shoot any one.”

We made need to retire that one since everywhere you go these days you are either on a surveillance camera or surrounded by people with cell phones that take HD video.

  23. “Luggage? That punk pulled a Glock 7 on me. You know what that is? It’s a porcelain gun made in Germany. It doesn’t show up on your airport X-ray machines here and it costs more than what you make in a month!”

  24. I was showing my scoped hunting rifles to two firearms newbies and they asked “if it was legal to own sniper rifles?”

  25. Bookstores: Where the slender tome that inspired our planet’s worst political mass-murderers is sold with a smile.

Colleges: Where a political ideology that inspired governments to kill 200 million of their own people is taught with a smile.

See? Both sides can play at this game.

  26. Funniest thing I ever heard about guns = Some visiting Californians complained to our local New Mexico Sheriff’s Deputy that some folks in the campground had guns and wanted him to “do something”. He explained to them 3 times that open carry in NM was perfectly legal and he supported their right to do so. They called 911 to report him and were told he is the only LEO within 90 minutes and the 911 operator refused to send anyone else to “disarm” the crazies. It was priceless.

  27. Let’s see…

“Guns are only made for killing”
“There is no lawful use for guns”
“The Second Amendment was about the National Guard”

    and my favorite

“You support terrorists and criminals by being a gun owner”

  28. ” The AR-15 Is an automatic Machine gun that you can buy online without a background check.”

” Why do you need a machine gun to hunt deer?”

” How can you condone someone walking into a School with a machine gun and mowing down hundreds of school kids ?”

” I don’t need to shoot a gun to know how they work!”

  29. Dateline: Illinois in spring of the year 2013. Location: Floor of the Illinois House of Representatives presided over by Speaker Mike Madigan.

Rep. Brandon Phelps, Democrat from Harrisburg, IL, debating fellow Dem caucus House member Rep. Will Davis from the south suburbs of Chicago regarding the Duty to Inform provision w/ criminal penalties placed in Phelps HB183 “NRA backed” carry bill by NRA contract lobbyist Donald Todd Vandermyde, as a result of a deal with the anti-gun Chiefs of Police.

Chicago area black caucus Rep. Davis, from the same party as Phelps, debates Phelps re. the danger of handing DTI to police criminals. Phelps answers, “It hasn’t been a problem in other states.” STUPIDEST statement of the year from a sellout hick from southern Illinois who lives 30 miles from the Kentucky border. Guess Phelps never watched the footage of Canton, OH, cop Daniel Harless, the cop heard ’round the world?

Liars, losers, traitors, rats, and ignorant hillbillies who believe Vandermyde is their best friend. What a team the NRA has in IL!

  30. “I think the only people who should have guns are cops and criminals”. This from my ex-Army neighbor who served in Vietnam.

  31. Girl I work with: (Must be read in idiot valley-girl speak)
“Like, the 2nd Amendment was written when muskets were popular. Oh, and it plainly says that it’s for the Militia, not people to own guns. Geesh, no one should be allowed to own guns EVER, if only we were more like the U.K. or Australia. Imagine how much safer we’d all be!”

Gun counter clerk at Walmart when I’m buying ammo:
“Man with these AR’s, I know how to rework the inner parts to make these semis into full-autos. All you do is remove a pin, I do it for people all the time.”

    Another idiot I work with:
“Yeah, if you think you need a gun, you’re an idiot. Just move someplace safer!”

    • Which… pin? That certainly is a doozy.

The “move” guy is a hilarious hypocrite. If guns make him nervous why is he still in America?

      • The clerk was talking to a gentlemen and his son who were looking at the AR in the rifle case. When they left, he was able to get the ammo I needed and shared his insight as I was checking out. It seemed more like a tall-tale that he shares to make himself feel more important or badass. When I said ” Yeah, I’m pretty sure you can’t do that” he got pretty worked up that he’s “…done it for quite a few people.” I just shook my head and left laughing to myself.

And yes, the moving thing is so idiotic. Same guy that said emphatically “Yeah, I’m going to murder someone who’s just stealing my TV or computer. Pretty sure that’s when you call the cops and just have them arrested”

My co-workers are rife with a sense of victim-pride that I just can’t understand.

  32. “I respect my Glock to infinitely [sic] and beyond. But I don’t love it. I love my Caracal.” Robert Farago, Editor in Chief TTAG

Because loving an Arab made pot metal contraption that snaps in half when you shoot it is so very……..

  33. I just read the article mentioned above. Crown Point is a great place for gun owners. I lived there in the mid 80’s and got my first Indiana CCW permit there. Bought a beautiful royal blue Colt 1911 lnib at a pawn shop for $300, and a couple of Pythons, too. I sooo regret selling them. Interestingly, once again the liberals blame the guns, not the thugs. It bothers them to no end that they have not been able to brainwash enough people to give up their guns. The gangs are by definition CRIMINALS. We need to imprison them for a long time, rather than follow the catch and release philosophy that most big city judges adhere to. There’s no mention of that in the article that seems to slavishly obsess over the cosmetic features of AR’s and AK’s., as if these inanimate objects committed the crimes on their own.

  34. “No one needs a semi-automatic gun.” Anti gun socialist at a gun range in my area (holding their first pistol) !
When asked what is a semi-automatic they point to a revolver. I then picked up my gear and left.

  35. Wait! I thought the progressives where trying to out do each other with stupid gun comments on a daily basis?
I wake up every day thinking I will see the most stupid statement yet today and I’m seldom disappointed.

  36. “These guns, when you put the high capacity clip in them, they shoot fully automatic. And they also have the bullet button, which when pressed, also makes the gun fully automatic. Thank goodness it failed in this instance.”

In reference to the San Bernardino shooters ARs.
