Gun grabbers are going to ground. Recognizing that they’ve lost the initiative, they’re keeping it on the DL, masking their disarmament mission with terms like “common sense” and “loophole.” The trend applies to both local gun control advocates and those working on an international scale. To wit: the “let’s start the conversation” video above, which reminds me of nothing so much as the cult come-ons that plagued the airwaves back in the day. Over at their main site (look for the asterisks for the orgs behind the campaign), Control Arms is “calling for a bulletproof international Arms Trade Treaty.” See what they did there? What they really, really want: a U.N. Arms Treaty that disarms citizens, an agreement that can’t be knee-capped by people who value their gun rights. Which raises the question, what does a gun mean to you?

      The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
      There’s also the 10th amendment to the Constitution:
      The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
      And once again, the US has powers, but not any rights.

    That’s all there is. When we concede that an inanimate object can have any meaning beyond what it actually is, it allows the anti’s to claim that guns = violence, crime, global warming, or whatever else they want to claim. It’s just a gun, people.

        I’m not your buddy, spy. We’re never going to have a beer together. And “tools” (the colloquial meaning, now) have been giving the anti’s plenty of ammunition by attaching too much importance to the tool, and not enough on the people defended by them.

        Here’s where we differ. The question was, “what does a gun mean to you?” Not owning, not carrying, not shooting. Just “a gun”. Get it, now?

        Humans do violence upon humans using what ever tool they can find, including their own hands.

        The concern/answer to the “problem” is HUMANS.

        Continue to teach/fight/stand for 2A rights for all, while teaching others to be thoughtful and respectful. It is your right, responsibility and obligation as a human being to do so.

    • Now that i think about it a bit, i agree with this statement. A gun is an inanimate object that really has no meaning. Its when and how it is used that gives it the meaning…its sorta like asking what a hammer or stapler mean to you…uh how do you answer that? lol

          I think the question is being misunderstood, an object itself is neutral: pen, paper, cloth, whatever. But when you write with the pen on the paper to make ideas, or print a colors on cloth to represent a country’s flag, it then has meaning and how people use those objects is what makes them bad or good. Not the objects themselves.

  3. A tool for self defense, and/or fun. It also means history, knowing that my WWI M1917 Enfield has done more by serving in two World Wars, than any of these activists will ever do.

  4. My guns are the only way to defend my liberty from a tyrannical government. That is why the second amendment is in the constitution. Look it up. The are also a way to defend myself from a society without rule of law, a way to defend my person and property against criminals, a way to provide food for myself, and they are fun to shoot.

    Well, I hope so. Conflict means two sides are on relatively equal footing. When there’s a large disparity in power, there is no conflict, simply swift oppression, or death. Conflict means victims have a fighting chance against oppressors.

    The peace these people are asking for is the peace of a body in a ditch.

  12. Strange. I can’t seem to find their facebook page. I thought that maybe the video was posted a while back, but it was uploaded yesterday. So much for an open discussion on what a gun means to me on their page.
    BTW. A gun to me is the link to my late grandfather’s exploits in WWII, a way to get food, defend my family, the ultimate freedom insurance, and something that brings me happiness (is a warm gun).

  15. The last guy in the video said, “There’s a story behind every gun.” Well, that’s certainly true in my case.

    –Mossberg Cruiser (pistol grip): The first firearm I bought, and my first firearm mistake. Pistol grips are silly.
    –XD(M) .40 3.8: Should have bought the compact 3.8 with the shorter grip. Would alleviate 90% of my concealment issues. Live and learn.
    –Sig Mosquito: When they said “We recommend CCI ammunition” that was not just cross-brand marketing. It really does prefer CCI.
    –Ruger 10/22 Target/Tactical: The included bipod is crap. Don’t bother. A friend tried to tell me, but I had to prove it to myself.
    –Sig P238: Magazine extensions with pinkie rests really do make a dramatic difference.

    See, he’s right. Every gun has a story.

    2. It is a symbol of many things, but importantly, it is a symbol of liberty. A society that trusts its members to make their own decisions has the chance to be both great and good.

    3. Some guns are works of art. They rise about mere function to elegance.

    4. A gun is, of course, a weapon. As such, it is a means by which a good person can be secure or at least can have a fighting chance.

A gun in the hands of an individual codifies the collective agreement of all people in democratic society that we choose not to acknowledge any concept of royalty, divine, or natural right of one person over another. That a person owns themselves and from the view of society deserves an equal right to self-determination. It acknowledges the reality that governments, societies, and people are imperfect and corruptible, and that the individual human right to self-defense should not suffer because of it.

  20. It cracks me up when people who are against violence want to take guns away. News flash, the bad guys are going to get them anyway. If they can’t get guns, they’d use knives, if they can’t get knives, they’d use hammers and right on down the line. Taking away our right to protect ourselves will never solve anything. When will the anti gunners get it that when they post gun free zone signs all it does is point criminals to where the unarmed victims are.

    A gun to me means freedom.

    • Just look at the genocide in parts of Africa. They don’t want to waist bullets so they use knives, and clubs. In Mexico I guess despite the laws getting a gun, assuming you are working for the cartels, is easy, so they use that instead.

      Either way a gun is a tool. It also allows me using that tool to protect myself, my family and have bonding moments at the gun range or hunting with my kids.

      As a symbol it could be viewed as wealth, some guns are works of art, and are worth more than my car. It is also viewed as a symbol of liberty and freedom. Those things are not free, and sometimes you have to fight for them. Our founding fathers knew that power a government corrupts. As such they knew that no one man should be a slave to government. If it is deemed that such a government is acting outside the laws of the constitution and doing away with individuals liberties and freedoms then that government must go. I am not calling for armed struggle against our government, but I think given the time and environment the founding fathers lived in that is exactly what they meant. Unfortunately I think we are seeing government getting to a point where change is needed in a big way.
      Defense of ones self against tyranny of government might mean that moving forward in the future we might see that happen. We have seen armed struggles, in Syria, Iran, Libya, and other places, but if the government disarms the public then there is no recourse. That is final solution which I hope to never see. Unfortunately we are witnessing certain portions of the executive branches making decisions on it’s own using rarely used powers to enact laws, policies, and ideologies which many do not agree with. Even if you agree some what with a policy or law, the fact remains that due process, and acceptance has been thrown out the window. These actions are indicative of a monarchy, not a democratic government. Even England, Israel, or pick your country doesn’t usually enact policy in this manner. It is truly scary and unsettling.

  22. To me a gun enables self-reliance, the personal attribute I value most. I do not want to be in the position of having to wait or hope for someone else to help defend the personal safety or legitimate rights of me or my family.

  23. My firearms are tools that serve many purposes. They provide entertainment when I am shooting at targets. They provide food when I hunt wild game. They provide protection against wild animals and criminals. They deter foreign nations from invading the U.S.

    Like any other object, people could use them to help themselves and/or fellow citizens or to harm themselves and/or fellow citizens. Any evil is in the person, not the object.

    Guns = freedom
    Freedom = choice
    Therefore,
    Guns = choice.

    I choose to own a gun, I choose to go to work. I choose to live as a member of society who wants to help instead of hurt. And most importantly, I choose to defend the lives of my family and others as a citizen. My gun is my choice, and I’ll be damned if I don’t defend my freedoms.
