“Ban guns. All guns. Get rid of guns in homes, and on the streets, and, as much as possible, on police,” Phoebe Maltz Bovy opines in a year-old essay at newrepublic.com. “Don’t sort the population into those who might do something evil or foolish or self-destructive with a gun and those who surely will not,” . . . Ban guns! “Not just gun violence. Not just certain guns. Not just already-technically-illegal guns. All of them.” Know anyone who agrees with Ms. Bovy?

  1. “Know anyone who agrees with Ms. Bovy?” (Who wants to ban all guns).

I don’t associate myself with the likes of her kind…

  2. “Know anyone who agrees with Ms. Bovy?”

    Why, yes. Yes, I do.

She just lost the Presidential Election.

    Fortunately.

    • And Matt Damon; wants every gun destroyed. I guess this means he can’t make movies anymore if he has no guns to use. Hippocrate.

    • can’t miss Feinstein who redefined guns in order to ban them. Feinstein who says, “no veteran should ever be allowed to own one because they are all mentally ill with PTSD”. Oh, wait! She just wants to ban guns for everyone else.

  3. Deep down, who really wants to ban guns ? Every committed progressive ( including every Democrat party apparachik and a few RINOs ) the US. Probably about 20% of the population. Those who would follow them unthinkingly and blindly ? Another 10-15%.

    • Why of course, every terrorist, bank robber, gang member, and other criminally-minded individuals would love for us to ban all guns.

They need to be banned, not the guns,

      Such idiots!

  4. Not all guns but I know plenty of people who would like ban “some” guns. Of course these people don’t know anything about guns other than what the HuffPo tells them.

    • +1.

I know people that want to ban certain types of firearms.

The good news is that pump-action shotguns and lever-action rifles are here to stay … and there is a decent chance that revolvers are here to stay as well.

The irony: with proper selection of caliber/gauge and ammunition, a terrorist or spree killer “limited” to pump-action shotguns, lever-action rifles, and revolvers would be able to deliver life-ending wounds to just as many people just as quickly as with any semi-auto military style rifle and an unlimited supply of 20 to 30 round magazines.

      • They want to ban certain guns now, when those are gone they turn their thoughts to whats left to ban.On and on and on until they are all gone. They are progressives and will try to progressively disarm our nation. If we are weaklings who fall for their BS.If We the People have a pair, fight them every step of the way our 2A is on our side.Vote nationally,at the state level, and locally for pro gun politicians. The fight will never end,it’s a lifetime commitment.

      • THAT’S the “(Sol/Saul) Alinsky Method” it’s detailed in his book “Rules For Radicals” (anyone who hasn’t should read it). The scheme which Democrats/Liberals/Progressives (Communists/Socialists/Marxists) use to great success goes like this:

Demand one hundred percent (100%) of something, accept one-third (1/3rd) the first time, come back in a few years demanding the remaining sixty-six plus percent (66%+), pressure your opponents to relent and again accept one third (1/3rd) as a “compromise”, again wait a few years then demand and receive the last thirty-three plus percent (33 & 1/3rd%) for total victory.

When anyone in “on the Left” in politics or social policy says “We don’t want to ‘ban’ or ‘take’ everything, we’re willing to ‘compromise'” DON’T believe a word they say. They WILL and ALWAYS do resort to “emotional” blackmail ie. “it’s for the ‘children'” to sway the ill-informed and ignorant among us. The “children” ploy was used to great effect by Communists and it’s origin is well documented, today’s “Democrats” use it to great advantage ie. “we have to save our planet from ‘Climate Change’ for ‘the children’, “we have to ban ‘assault weapons’ for ‘the children’, or “we can’t deport illegal aliens, just think of ‘the children'”.

        http://famguardian.org/subjects/Politics/Articles/Liberals.htm

        Liberals/Democrats/Progressives?

        F*** them!

F*** them all where they breathe.

    • 99% of them have never thought in depth about it. Most just assume that we would all turn our guns in, and the few that don’t would be tracked down and arrested.

      • most of them don’t have any concept of the numbers
that is, the number of legal gun owners AND the sheer number of guns out there.

      • “99% of them have never thought in depth about it.” A truer phrase has never been spoken. I think many on the statist left don’t apply much thought as how to enforce their “progressive” laws. Which is ironic considering how many (if not most of them) are…for better or worse deeply suspicious of the police.

  5. Yeah, just like we ‘banned’ drugs, right? That’s turned out SO well.

Reality is not something that simpleton wacko liberal rainbow-chasers do very well. Even if this is the (albeit completely incorrect) conclusion that you come to — ‘Just Ban ALL Guns’ — the reality of actually implementing anything like that is not only completely impossible, but very dangerous. If we didn’t end up in a civil war, and somehow managed to confiscate and destroy 400+ million guns in the US without mass bloodshed, we would essentially then be living in a Police state where only the criminals, gangs, and the Government have guns. Maybe miss Bovy should go do a nice tour of Mexico, and if she makes it back in one piece, let us know what she thinks then. I’m even willing to sport for a nice trip to the range and help her face her hoplophobia in a safe setting too 🙂 Wouldn’t be the first time I saw someone who was ‘scared’ of guns turn out to be a gun lover after one trip to the range.

    • We (well they, actually) can’t stop people from walking right across our border with 70 pound bags of pot on their backs. We can’t stop people from cooking meth in their kitchens. We can’t stop people from growing pot in their basements. Yet they think we can ban guns and criminals will not smuggle them across our border or set up their own manufacturing facilities.

    • How about the super effective ban on alcohol during Prohibition. That was a text book perfect case of a ban working. NOT

      • And, just like today’s Prohibition, it was an excuse to attack the 2A (and today most of the rest of the Bill of Rights).

Even though Prohibition was over the violence associated with it was a major driver behind the NFA. Today drug and drug gang related violence is a major driver behind the violence that fuels modern grabbers.

The WoD is unsupportable unless you’re totally cool with cops kicking down someone’s door, shooting the dogs, possibly a resident of the house, flashbanging a baby and then saying “Our bad, wrong address” and getting away with it.

  6. I used to be exactly like that some 7 years ago. Not anymore. I just got back from the range where I go twice a week and bought my first pistol of the new year. Thank God I came to my senses!

      • Smells like poop, must be a democrat close by. I’ll go now and get old Betsy 12ga. out of the closet, untill the poop smell goes away.

    • Just curious, what turned around your thinking? I look at such a person spewing the bilge this woman wrote, for example, and cannot see any escape possible for them.

I like to think that they would see the light if only they’d listen to reason. However, I’ve find that their views really are deeply rooted in a racist/classist/collectivist/fantasist anti-intellectualism totally immune to reason. So there are no inroads possible.

  7. Yes. My nephrologist would love to ban all guns.

Somehow, it makes me feel better knowing that he spends his days examining piss.

      • Yup, and don’t even ask about my proctologist.

BTW, you may not know this, but as people age they need more and more doctors each treating fewer and fewer parts. My next specialist is likely to be a left ventricle man.

        • The older I get, the more phone numbers I have in my ‘little black book’ of people I *need* to see, vs. who I *want* to see.

Just this week, I got diagnosed for a weird syndrome called ‘Dupuytrens contracture’, where your hand kinda collapses in on itself.

I’ve had me enough of this ‘getting old’ crap, I tell ya…

  8. Funny article written by a woman who live in the fantasy land we call Canada. Sometimes no matter how many times you flush that turd just keeps floating up.

  9. Yeah I know some. Close relatives too. One is in the “some” camp, another pretty much all. And more than a few other idiots. Oh and all Odombo/Hildebeast azzholes…?

  10. I know some people that feel that way. They also think police will protect them and when that falls through we’ll see how they think.

  11. I don’t recall any. Some have stated such in the past, probably expecting no challenge. When I have challenged them, they universally have fallen back to “Well, we have to do SOMETHING”! And after I ask “Even if it is wrong, and makes the situation worse?” they look confused and don’t want to talk about it any more.

  12. The president of my synagogue (Reform, of course) seems like she’s tread that path before. I just spoke with her yesterday about me holding a firearms safety/orientation class (to help educate and inform my fellow Jews) and she rambled on about “certain kinds of guns”, “large numbers of bullets”, blah, blah, blah. I feel like she won’t present my idea to the synagogue board in a sympathetic manner, but we’ll see.

Now that I’m in NH, there seem to be a smaller number of people in that camp (I know, I know, NH voted for the Hildebeast. It’s embarrassing.) than when I was trapped in MA (like Ralph).

    • “The president of my synagogue (Reform, of course) seems like SHE’S (apostasy) tread that path before.”?

I would ask HER just how SHE plans on defending HERSELF when a horde comprised of the “Alt-Right” (LOL) descends upon HER home intent on marching HER and HER family off to “the showers”.

Note: I use the term “Alt-Right” here NOT because they are “Nazis” the fact is they aren’t but because they ARE “the Left’s” current “boogeyman”.

  13. Not really. Almost Everyone I know is indifferent. Some don’t believe you need assault weapons for anything but are fine with rifles shotguns and hand guns.
Not even my European friends think guns should all be illegal.
My parents are fine with guns but not interested themselves.

Really, the extreme anti gun person is rare in my life. I’ve only met them on the internet.

  14. As some alluded to, I disassociate myself from those exhibiting a substantial degree of derangement. Our species, being an integral part of this planet is inherently violent and nothing will ever change that. The existence of weapons of any design will never cease in its availability. This is indisputable, as such, those advocating disarmament or hold disagreement with indisputable facts are delusional.

  15. I’m surprised nobody has posted one of those “gun control supporters” posters of Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Castro, etc. Because that’s what the end result of a total gun ban would be.

  16. I know a few people who agree with Ms. Bovy: about half the friends I had growing up, to include that “Progressive-with-a-capital-P” friend I wrote about a few months back. Also, my own sanctimonious, self-righteous brother, who, if he were involved in politics, would certainly take the I-know-what’s-best-for-you-better-than-you-do/Bloomberg approach to governance. Which is ironic, because in the last year or so, he’s taken up pheasant hunting with a shotgun after decades of “Ban ’em All” rants. But, he was also feeling the Bern, so I guess it shouldn’t surprise me that he would hold strong opinions about things he clearly doesn’t understand.

    • Pheasant hunting? Sounds a bit bourgeois to me. 🙂

That never appealed to me, mainly because the pheasants around here are all released farm raised birds and its more like shooting chickens.

  17. Quite often, firearms owners are their own worst enemies. The duck hunters don’t like the AR-15 “black rifles” so they see no problem if attempts are made to ban them. The traditional rifle owners don’t like machine guns, so they have no problem with them being legislated out of existence. Some pistol owners see nothing wrong with certain long guns being outlawed just as some rifle owners would have no problem seeing pistols banned.
Friends, ALL firearms advocates must “hang together” and realize that an assault on ANY means of firearms ownership and self-defense is an assault on ALL forms of firearms ownership and self-defense.
There is absolutely NO ROOM for complacency among ANY Second Amendment supporters. An attack on one is an attack on ALL…
ALL firearms laws are unconstitutional on their face. Imagine the hue and cry if “reasonable” restrictions were placed on First Amendment activities, especially with the “mainstream media”. The Second Amendment is clear–what part of “shall not be infringed” do politicians and the media not understand…of course, they understand full well…it’s part of their communist agenda…

    • Agree that we can not have divisions. Myself, owning lots of guns, have no interest in AR15 type guns to own. I’ve shot my friend’s ARs & like them, but don’t want one. However, when I hear that someone wants a certain type of gun banned I am against it. We all have different tastes, but need to support all gun owners.

  18. Unfortunately yes: as my mother’s dementia has progressed, she has come to want all guns everywhere to be eliminated — hand guns, long guns, artillery, everything, from civilians, police, military… whatever.

But she’s always interested to hear how well we shot when I go shooting with buddies…. and when there ae reports of violent crime on the tube, she concedes she’s glad _I_ have guns.

  19. Yep. Half the people I work with, plus some people we’ve met through the kids’ friends and schools.

Thanks mostly to Facebook, almost all of them know that my wife and I (and my son, now that he’s 18) are gun owners, and that we absolutely, unequivocally oppose their views on the subject. But they don’t comment on our opinions, and we don’t comment on theirs, so we remain on a friendly basis.

  20. Yup, guy I grew up with. He used to shoot with me back in the day, then went to a liberal arts college and came back a delicate little snowflake.

He went off on me one day, told me anyone could just walk up, take my gun from its holster, shoot me and run away with my gun. I told him he was a moron. Next day he tried to take my gun from the holster while I walked my dog. I broke his nose.

Needless to say we haven’t spoken for a while now.

    • “He went off on me one day, told me anyone could just walk up, take my gun from its holster, shoot me and run away with my gun. I told him he was a moron. Next day he tried to take my gun from the holster while I walked my dog.”

Are you serious? Coming from someone you said was “delicate”, that was nuclear weapons grade derp.

  21. Know anyone in the present? No.

Do I know some people who felt that way in the past? Yes.

Some came around to the idea that they themselves wanted to own a gun or 20. Others simply came around (thanks to the astute observations, argumentative skill and rapier wit of your’s truly ROFL) that while they didn’t want/think they needed a gun other people should be allowed to do what they want as long as they don’t harm others. Funny how well that argument works with stoners.

  22. As I said before ;

    Aaron M. Walker says:

    December 21, 2016 at 04:15

F—K THEM ALL !!! And the rest of the DemoNAZI , RINO tassle-loafer totalitarians !!!! 1st We need to Re-enforce the 2nd amendment…By making it a “Capital Crime” for any Politicians/ Police /Government agency /Private Landlords/Private organizations, etc…From any Infringement upon any US citizens Lawful Civil Rights! With penalties of not less than $250k in compensatory damages for each incident of infringement incurred…Fines, and prison terms as well .And through the 14th amendment it can be expanded to other rights of course…Force other states such as , NJ, NY, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, California, DC.,etc…To abide by the U.S. Constitutional-Bill of Rights…[Any person in one, or goes into another…Has the same rights as any other person in any other state…] There is No such thing as Pre-crime…And Murder is a Capital Crime…It is ALREADY AGAINST THE LAW….! What part of “SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED” doesn’t anyone NOT understand !?!

  23. Do we know someone who wants to ban ALL guns?

On the surface MOST of those who only want to ban “SOME” guns are asking for just that. But get into a more thorough discussion with them and you will see just how many of those want to get them ALL out of citizen’s hands. As stated above, they will start with just a few but as the start down slippery slope gets further along, they want them all gone.

Also stated above, while we can’t just “ban” violent criminals, we could make stiffer sentences for violent people and get them off the streets. Same goes for the drunken a-holes that kill 10,000+ people a year while driving.

  24. I’ve talked past people like that.
The clinical term for them is “stupid”.

When you ask them whether they plan to also ban private ownership of machine tools, they either clam up… or worse, say “Yes.”

  25. Sure I do. For example, my psychiatrist brother-in-law, who, between anti-gun screeds, regales his dinner guests with tales of patients whose debilitating problems he finds entertaining.

  26. Yeah I know some. They won’t admit to it because they still “just want to have a conversation” and they know they would have to admit to having a closed mind. They aren’t fooling anybody.

  27. Patience and understanding plus calm explanations as to what guns are for will often get the anti-gun person to think. I used to be totally anti-gun, in my twenties, until I had several personal encounters with criminals. Now I own four guns, including two ARs and a Glock 23 for carry.

The biggest elephant in the room for anti-gun folks is the need for the common civilian to have the means to stand up to totalitarian rule. Totalitarian governments have killed literally hundreds of millions of people over the last century.. the figure is probably in the billion range over the last several thousand years. Totalitarian rule is one of the great threats to human life that rank right up there with nuclear war, famine, plagues and violent crime. That’s what the Second Amendment is for: it’s not about protecting ‘the militia,’ it’s about protecting us from the militia gone bad.

Let’s not insult the anti-gun person. Reason will, over the long haul, carry the day if applied with calmless and compassion.

  28. As a reformed gun-grabber, I think a lot of the problem is perception, and both sides do such good jobs of alienating the other that coming to senses is beyond anyone.

Not every person who wants to ban guns is a Stalinist. Some are just afraid. They don’t understand the ramifications, they didn’t grow up with firearms, and all they see are the negatives. And for it’s worth, many in the pro-2a camp are garbage representatives of gun rights. Dressing up in full camo for an open-carry demonstration? Yeah, you’re legally allowed, but it’s stupid and has the opposite effect. Picture a gay pride parade with a dozen dudes in pink speedos making out in front of your church on Sunday. Does that make you more, or less likely to support gay marroage?

So….what got me on the side of 2a was the Patriot Act. It made me realize the precarious hold we as citizens have over our own government and that the only thing presenting the possibilty of tyrannical rule is a hundred million army of countryman.

So, I’m still a liberal. Most of my friends are liberal. And, if you want to win over your liberal friends, use Trump. Trump scares the bejesus out of me like Obama did most of you. Tell your liberal friends if they are really afraid of their government they need to arm themselves as is their right. Explain to them why 2a is important for EVERYONE to exercise their right to defend themselves. We can disagree and vote on taxes and crap until the cows come home, but the right and responsibility to protect the freedom to disagree is vital to our system.

End note before being flamed: Hillary is NOT a liberal. She’s a statist using the progressive agenda to persue her pursuit of power just like Trump is no conservative. We’ve both had our ideals hijacked by oppressors.
