President Bloomberg’s Gun Control Plan Would Include Federal Permitting, Banning ‘Assault Weapons,’ a 48-Hour Wait Period and Much More

If there’s one thing Michael Bloomberg feels comfortable with — besides building a multi-billion dollar market information and media congomerate — it’s pushing gun control. So when he made a campaign appearance yesterday (in Aurora, Colorado…subtle, no?) to roll out his plan for national limits on gun rights, he hit a lot of the same notes he’s been hitting for years.

To establish his gun-grabbing bona fides, Daddy Bloombucks made sure to tout his role as America’s premier financier of the organized gun control movement over the last two decades. Remember that Everytown for Gun Safety, including Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Bloomberg advocacy empire.

So when it comes to limiting the rights of Americans to keep and bear arms (not to mention sugary drinks) Mayor Mike has no peer and knows of what he speaks. If elected, he says he’d push all of the Civilian Disarmament Industrial Complexes favorite “solutions” to “gun violence.” Plus a few.

Those include a national permitting scheme, an “assault weapons” ban, a red flag law, a 48-hour purchase waiting period and more. Oh, and a national campus carry ban, too.

President Mike would appoint a national gun control czar to oversee the never-ending fight against civilian firearms ownership gun violence. He’d also kill off the PLCAA which would open gun makers to death by a thousand guns from the tort bar.

Notable by its absence in Mike’s menu of Second Amendment limitations, however, was…confiscation. That was no oversight. The puny plutocrat didn’t amass a fortune of more than $50 billion by being stupid.

Bloomberg’s saw what happened to lesser lights like Eric Swalwell and Robert Francis O’Rourke, two hoplophobic mouth-breathers who based much of their campaigns on promises to institute mandatory “buy-back” programs (AKA minimally compensated gun confiscation) of assault-y looking semi-automatic guns.

Both campaigns crashed and burned like the Hindenburg after failing to move the electoral needle. They also provided the pro-gun side with a couple of handy poster boys for what we’ve always known gun controllers really wanted all along.

Bloomberg has no intention of giving the other side such an easy, juicy target. Thus he left a “buyback” off his list of policy priorities yesterday.

Don’t be surprised, though, if he’s elected president, when he has a miraculous epiphany shortly after inauguration, deciding that Beto and Nuke ‘Em actually were quite inspired and — come to think of it — a mandatory “buyback” isn’t such a bad idea after all.

Here’s the AP’s account of Bloomberg’s announcement.

By Steve Peoples, Associated Press

Democratic presidential contender Michael Bloomberg unveiled a gun control policy on Thursday just steps from the site of one of Colorado’s worst mass shootings, calling for a ban on all assault weapons, mandatory permits for gun purchasers and a new position in the White House to coordinate gun violence prevention.

“I’ve been all in on the fight against gun violence for 15 years, and I’m just getting started,” Bloomberg declared. “As president, I will work to end the gun violence epidemic once and for all.”

Bloomberg, the billionaire former New York City mayor, entered the Democratic presidential primary less than two weeks ago. Gun violence has quickly emerged as a core issue for his presidential bid, as it has been for his political and philanthropic efforts for much of the last decade. Bloomberg is well known to gun control advocates in Colorado and across the country, where he’s funneled tens of millions of dollars from his personal fortune to help like-minded candidates while creating and supporting gun control groups such as Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action.

Despite his dedication to the issue, the former Republican is viewed skeptically by many Democratic primary voters, who look at his ties to Wall Street and vast personal wealth with suspicion. Democratic rivals including Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren in recent days have accused him of trying to buy the election.

At the same time, Bloomberg is pounding the local airwaves in all 50 states with television ads highlighting his work on issues on gun violence and climate change while casting himself as best positioned to defeat Trump next fall. After spending roughly $40 million on an ad campaign over the first week or so of his campaign, he began running a second ad campaign backed by tens of millions of dollars more on Wednesday.

The 77-year-old New Yorker outlined his plan to combat gun violence before an invitation-only audience of about 40 victims of gun violence and gun control activists at a Christian center, near the movie theater in Aurora where a gunman killed 12 people and wounded nearly 60 others in 2012. The speaking lineup included Democratic state Rep. Tom Sullivan, whose son, Alex, was killed in the attack.

Sullivan formally endorsed Bloomberg while introducing him Thursday.

“I have witnessed the actions Mike has taken since Alex was murdered,” Sullivan said, insisting that victims of gun violence would have an ally in the White House should Bloomberg win the election.

The policies Bloomberg outlined Thursday largely mirror those he fought for on the state and federal levels in recent years, though it’s the first time he’s released his specific prescription for gun violence as a presidential candidate. T hey are ambitious and would almost certainly face fierce resistance from the NRA and Republicans in Congress, but they are not dramatically different from those of his Democratic rivals.

The difference, Bloomberg said Thursday, is his proven commitment to the issue.

“I promise you I will never back down from this fight,” he said. “That’s the kind of president this country needs and you deserve.”

Among the highlights, Bloomberg’s plan would:

— Reinstate the federal ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

— Require every gun buyer to obtain a permit before making a purchase.

— Require point-of-sale background checks on all gun purchases while closing the gun show loophole.

— Institute a new age limit of 21 for those wishing to buy handguns, semi-automatic rifles and shotguns.

— Require a mandatory 48-hour waiting period for all gun purchases.

— Institute a federal “red flag” law to deny permits to “troubled people who pose a danger to themselves or others.”

— Institute a temporary ban on gun possession for those convicted of assault or other violent misdemeanors.

— Ban all guns in K-12 schools, colleges, and universities, except for law enforcement.

— Reverse the law that gives gun makers and gun dealers immunity from lawsuits.

— Create the position of White House gun coordinator “to mobilize the public to fight gun violence and launch an inter-agency hub to fight gun violence.”

You think you’re going to stop it all, Mr. Bloomberg? Because criminals are gonna criminal no matter what you do. Here’s a story from just this past week in which a felon (who wasn’t supposed to have any guns, ya know) somehow obtained not only a gun, but an entire safe full of them, and then this week got into an argument and killed his girlfriend’s two teenage daughters before putting a bullet into his own head to escape the inevitable response by police.

      1. avatar Grumpy Old Guy says:

80% products will surely be banned in the 2nd wave which eliminate CNC for most of us. 3D printing technology is accelerating very fast in the industrial (high $$) segment, the lower end hobby printers are limited by materials, but I expect that will not be an issue in 5-8 years once the market drives the price down.

Looking at the big picture, the problem with hacking away on the 2A is the same tactics will be used on the other rights. We already see limits being placed on free speech in the private sector / universities / internet. The more we cede on the 2A the more we should expect other individual rights to be limited in the name of public good. Or simply call it socialism to keep it simple.

There IS an epidemic of hyper-sensationalized media reporting of incidents where firearms have been used to do harm by people with bad intentions. There IS an epidemic of false reporting about violent crime, especially crimes involving firearm use. What the left can claim as a miracle of modern propaganda is the total absence of reporting about the millions of cases occurring every year of defensive firearm use.

    Too bad the actual facts seldom get reported. Facts like;

Murders by people who use firearms have been on a downward track for over 30 years. Recent years show firearm involved murders occur LESS often than any time in American history (as a percentage of population).

Over half of all firearm involved murders in the USA are committed by young urban black males, and almost all of these murders are related to drug gang activity where black shooters kill black victims.

Rifles (of all types), including Armalite pattern semi-automatic modern sporting rifles, AK pattern semi-auto rifles, bolt action rifles, antique rifles, even muzzleloading rifles, are used to commit murder fewer than 400 times a year in each of the past 20 years. Fewer murders than those committed by people with knives, or blunt objects, or even fists!

Schools are safer today than at any time in American history. The numbers of muggings, assaults, rapes, murders, and YES shootings, in US schools are at the lowest percentage of school population EVER! This statistic includes those “mass” shootings the media spends exorbitant time exaggerating.

School shootings occur globally and the average of ocurrances and loss of life for the rest of the world is much higher than the USA. No school shooting in the USA even comes close to the largest number of casualties in school shootings elsewhere – not even in the worst five! The worst happened in Russia in 2004, when Islamic terrorists killed 385 adults and children and wounded 783 more. By comparison, the worst school shooting in the US happened in 2007 when an unstable Korean immigrant killed 32 people in college classrooms using two handguns.

Statistics on US shootings are available at fbi.gov (see statistics). Date on global shootings is out there – google it!

Everyone knows “google” is a search engine and most people know that “google” is also used to describe any search engine. Plus, most people who would read these posts also know that the globalist corporate machine “google” is biased, leftist, and works very hard to scrub conservative positions from their site. I agree the search engine and data mining leftist corporation “google” is not a friend of freedom. Billionaires didn’t steal their fortunes from the working man. That’s your commie indoctrination speaking. They got rich by providing services and goods which other people wanted more than their money, so they voluntarily traded to mutual benefit.

U.S.Political elections are the most corrupt in the Industrialized world. The corrupt government was intentionally set up that way after the American Revolution was over. The Corrupt Greed Monger Criminal Founders first agenda was to destroy any semblance of Democracy. In short they established an Oligarchy of the filthy rich which remains in place to this very day. They called Democracy “mob rule” and denied the common man the right to vote. Later in time when political pressure by the proletariat demanded more of a say in the government they reluctantly let men vote but in order to nullify any power granted to them by the vote they then instituted the corrupt gerrymandering practice and the corrupt Electoral College once again making a complete mockery of Democracy.

The 2020 elections are not about “if” we have a Democratic President but “who” that President will be. Biden will not last through the primaries as he is seen a a doddering old man on the edge of senility and Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are seen as way too far to the Left. Buttigieg has a lot of prejudicial people against him because of his homosexuality which includes the Black vote who seem to be lining up against him. The Dems know Buttigieg is a loser for their side. That leaves only Bloomberg and Steyer with Steyer the weaker of the two candidates both in terms of the wealth required to buy the Presidency and the ability to compete with the more well known Bloomberg.

Trump has made so many enemies his run for re-election is a laughable joke.

Latest surveys show 73 per cent of the Women are against him,

the farmers he bankrupted are against him,

the east coast fishermen are against him as their business is down 50 per cent
because of China’s retaliation in Trumps idiotic trade war,

the Blacks are against Trump and so are most of the Latino’s.

Independents that voted for Trump in the last election are frightened and appalled by him eliciting foreign aid in the 2016 elections from Russia and trying to get Ukrainian help for the 2020 elections and Moscow Mitch McConnells refusal to buy Russian proof election machines and with insult added to injury and outrage Juliana is now as I type these lines once again in the Ukraine trying to dig up dirt on Biden which is ridiculous as Biden will not even be the candidate for the Presidency and Julliana has only guaranteed himself that he will be in prison after 2020.

The rot, corruption and criminal activity during the Trump years will go down in history as the most obscene period in all of America’s political history and the most dangerous to the American way of life. The Rise and Fall of the American Empire seems to be ever closer to happening and seems to be teetering back and forth on the edge of an abyss.

I predict it will be Bloomberg that will be elected and the only thing that will save gun owners from draconian gun laws are control of the Senate by the Republicans and with the the Republican voters now 90 per cent in favor of more gun laws its a certainty the Republicans in the Senate will allow some gun control to pass after the 2020 elections and if by some miracle the Democrats would win the Senate gun ownership will be severely curtailed in the U.S. Japans draconian gun laws will then seem anemic by comparison.

The fantasy that the courts will save the 2A is only a pipe dream as the Dems are going to retaliate against Moscow Mitch McConnell for his dirty underhanded trick of preventing Obama’s Supreme Court Judge from even getting a hearing. The Supreme Court will be packed with new members to break the strangle hold the Republicans now have on the court and new witnesses will come forth and cause Kavanaugh to be impeached for lying to Congress about his rapist drunken brawls while in college.

In short big money buys U.S. elections and Bloomberg is certain to be elected President. Trump will only be an obscene memory whose damage to the country, its freedoms, its safety, that was jeopardized both in regards to our allies now refusing to share intelligence information with us and with an avalanche of more pollution when Trump destroyed Obama’s environmental reforms and Trumps destruction and sabotage of our good relations with our allies will take years if not decades to repair. Trumps attempt to operate above the law and act as a King will land him in jail for the rest of his life. The very survival of America and its way of life depend on the Fall of Herr Drumpf and his Gangster Criminal operations and his criminal corrupt political cronies.

    End of story.

He is for the most part a troglodyte worker slaving away at part time minimum wage job at the U.S. workers Capitalvanian paradise called Walmart with no days off, no holiday pay, no vacations and of course no retirement. If previous generations could return from the dead they would not even recognize or make themselves believe that they were in the America of today. Capitalvanian Serfdom is alive and well in 21st Century America and it impoverishes the people more and more every year.

        You’re busted!

I know of a Dane who wants nothing more than to be an American citizen, to live in this free country, and to shoot the guns he wants, when he wants.

But he can’t, because of the long wait in line to get in…

      3. avatar The Socialist Utopia, go try it, it's "free." says:

You have some valid points, and Trump wasn’t smart to use Denmark in his statement as the humiliation was almost certain, but do you know how much the average worker pays in taxes in Denmark? Their superior education system, healthcare, and pensions are not financed by some generous billionaires. Denmark is also a very small country with a small population, what works there may not work in our nation.
The rate of violent crimes involving firearms is pretty low in some of our states, where people are also not starving. Most of the problems you mention are found in the bigger metro areas, and most of these cities have been managed by democrats for years. Liberals propose absolutely nothing to lower the cost of medication and services, which would be the foundation of an health insurance system similar to what they have in many European countries. Using a similar system, financed by the taxpayers, to cover services and products that cost 5 to 10 times more in the US versus France, Germany, etc will simply not work. As with “gun control,” liberals fail to see the obvious, or at least they avoid it knowing most voters don’t have a clue anyway. Liberals, just like republicans, profit from lobbying. They have no interest in forcing pharmaceutical groups, clinics, etc to lower their bills.
Socialism impoverishes the people too, in a different, more insidious way. A government employee in France gets something like 2 months worth of paid vacation per year, but many are too broke to go anywhere, so they spend it watching TV and enjoying the French equivalent of walmart. In case you missed it, thousands of French have been protesting every weekend for months. They have very little freedom, no equivalent to Second Amendment yet they get slaughtered in downtown Paris by crazies armed with fully auto AK rifles, they have a parody of First Amendment as they need a permit in order to protest legally and you can get charged with a crime if you say “screw you” to a cop, there are random police checkpoints and they need no legal reason to stop a vehicle and ask for your license, insurance and registration, the French pay a yearly tax for owning a television, cost of living goes up as it does in most of the western world, and their salaries are not keeping up with it, gas is outrageously expensive. French thugs have guns, all kind of guns, years ago in a small town south of France they blew a car with a rocket launcher, I guess “gun control” doesn’t work there either when criminals decide to play. In Spain, another socialist heaven, the unemployment rate of the young population has been over 20%, yes 20%, for years. Italy also has its issues where thousands of people are sick and tired of….Africans, and it really isn’t Trump’s fault. Finally, I think the Danes are arrogant. I watched Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown in Copenhagen, and the folks he was interviewing were the most obnoxious and arrogant I have ever seen in his show. The Swedes are a bit like that too, but reality has hit them in the face those past years, with the hordes of “refugees” raping their women by the dozen and turning entire neighborhoods into shariah zones. Have you ever lived outside the U.S? I did, and I can tell with pride our nation is not a sh*thole.

quote—————– Liberals propose absolutely nothing to lower the cost of medication and services, which would be the foundation of an health insurance system similar to what they have in many European countries.——————-quote

I would suggest you turn on a secret and new invention called a TV. Liberals have pointed out that just taxing the super rich Billionaires just 5 per cent would pay for most health care. The Gangster Criminal Republicans scream it would destroy the economy but 1950’s History under Eisenhower a Republican President taxed some categories for the rich a whopping 90 per cent and the economy was booming and the working man made more money as opposed to today when inflation is taken into consideration. Sorry Try again History proves you wrong.

quote———————– Using a similar system, financed by the taxpayers, to cover services and products that cost 5 to 10 times more in the US versus France, Germany, etc will simply not work. —————quote

What a fking laugh. That bullshit is so old it does not even stink anymore.

Quote——————They have no interest in forcing pharmaceutical groups, clinics, etc to lower their bills.———————quote

Good God man are you on drugs. The Liberals have programs to crush the greedy gangster criminal drug companies including beating the no good bastards to their knees by simply letting in foreign drugs. After all the Gangster Criminal Republicans ship jobs overseas every day and tell the worker troglodyte drones they have to lower their standard of living in the 21st Century to make the Obscene Rich more wealthy , well that works two ways. The rich should have to compete with foreign competition as well. You would see how fast these drug manufacturer criminals would suddenly lower their prices.

“”””””””Socialism impoverishes the people too, in a different, more insidious way. What a fking laugh. I suggest you turn on France24 news in July the entire damn country shuts down for summer vacation and the French do not just stay in their own country during that time. They vacation around Europe as well. Really quit making such a damn full of yourself, anyone who watches the French News is now laughing their ass off at your ridiculous statement. Boy you really out did yourself on that one. Its hilarious.

quote——————– In case you missed it, thousands of French have been protesting every weekend for months.———————–quote

Well you got only part of that right. The latest protests were over their Social Security Benefits. France wants to adopt a system almost identical to the obscene Soc. Security System we have that starves people to death and the French people are saying no fking way.

quote——————— They have very little freedom, no equivalent to Second Amendment yet they get slaughtered in downtown Paris by crazies armed with fully auto AK rifles, ———————quote

This is too easy if you knew anything about France this would not be so elementary. Fact is their mass murders are way lower than ours and the incidents they did have which were few in number were financed and run by a Middle East Country while our mass murder is home grown and happens every other week in the U.S. You would realize how ridiculous your statement is if you knew anything at all about the incidents that took place. Really quit making a fool of yourself.

quote——————–they have a parody of First Amendment as they need a permit in order to protest legally and you can get charged with a crime if you say “screw you” to a cop, ——————-quote

Wrong Jethro turn off watching the re-runs of the Beverly Hillbillies and pay attention to this. Studies show the French have greater First Amendment rights than we do because they do not have the slander and libel laws we have which prevents our news papers from printing a lot of news.

quote————there are random police checkpoints and they need no legal reason to stop a vehicle and ask for your license, insurance and registration, ———–quote

Where to you live Jethro in Podunk Junction. The cops do that every day here in the U.S. Really your starting to sound like you are on drugs today.

quote—————the French pay a yearly tax for owning a television, cost of living goes up as it does in most of the western world, and their salaries are not keeping up with it, gas is outrageously expensive. Again your always making a complete fool of yourself. While it is true on the surface the French pay more taxes but in the long run their social programs prevent them from going bankrupt in regards to any of their bills. Lower income people get rent subsides, heating subsides, gasoline subsides, lower cost education, and their medical and drug bills are a fraction of what ours are. Last week one Ex-pat American woman smart enough to say fk living in the U.S. went to the emergency room in France and she had no knee deep paperwork, talked to a nurse immediately and saw a doctor immediate and was treated for two days and her total bill was a whopping equivalent of $28.00 which in the U.S. would have been thousands. In other words higher taxes in France are well worth the tremendous benefits they get. And you failed to mention that when people show up with rocket launchers they are outlawed in France and when they do show up its financed by other terrorist countries. Try again Jethro.

Quote————-I watched Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown in Copenhagen, and the folks he was interviewing were the most obnoxious and arrogant I have ever seen in his show. Your the typical Trumpite rabid racist. I find your remarks about the Anthony Bourdaine show laughable. I too watched all his European shows and what you are screaming about is the anger you experience when you had to listen to them speak about how superior their lives are compared to ours. Sorry thats not called being arrogant its point out to you what a complete shit hole the U.S. really is to live in and yes I know you got upset because you were forced to face the truth head on. Shook you up didn’t it.

————-quote————— Have you ever lived outside the U.S? I did, and I can tell with pride our nation is not a sh*thole.————-quote ———————

If you really did live outside the U.S. I am willing to bet you are referring to being in the Military. So a few hours shore leave Jethro does not qualify you to comment on Western European counties. As a matter of fact I know quite a few people who were sent to rich Western European countries by their U.S. companies and when they were called home they stayed in Europe. They have told me the work atmosphere is very relaxed with no threats , yelling and screaming, the benefits fabulous, the crime way lower, its actually safe to walk most of the streets even in the bigger cities. Yes the really big cities do have bad sections but they pale in comparison to the lawlessness in the U.S I would personally not walk down the streets in Chicago or Cleveland with a bullet proof vest on and a German MG42 machine gun but I have been in some poor East European countries downtown in cities bigger than Cleveland and even the women were relaxed and not looking over their shoulders like they do here. I never had any problems there but I sure have been attacked in Shit hole U.S.A. too many times in my life to even recall it all.

In conclusion you never lived in Europe because you never would have made the ignorant and racist statements you did. Next time try doing a little research before you go off on a racist, arrogant rant and try watching some European News Programs for a change ,there are other news programs besides State Run Fox News finnaced and blessed by Vladmir Putin and his prostitute Herr Drumpf.

Why you had to use the qualifier “industrialized” nation when comparing “gun violence” rates? (Mexico, Russia and Brazil would not be pleased if they heard you calling them not industrialized.) USA is around the middle of the pack if you compare all countries.

Require all gun owners must report to police if their firearms have been lost or stolen, within 3 days after they know or should know that their guns are missing.

So who will determine “or should know that their guns are missing.”

I don’t know about the rest of you buy I don’t inventory all my personal possessions every three days. A person who ones one firearm would probably notice in a short amount of time that said firearm was missing but a high percentage of firearm owners own multiple if not several firearms and may not notice for a fairly lengthy amount of time. Under Bloomberg it sounds like a prosecutor, judge, or police would determine if you “should have known” a firearm was missing. Yet the federal government routinely seems to misplace a lot of stuff including military equipment and billions of dollars. What a bunch of BS.

    1. Require all gun owners must report to police if their firearms have been lost or stolen, within 3 days after they know or should know that their guns are missing.

What is wrong with requiring people to report crimes?

Are you aware of how often rapes go unreported? Imagine if there was a law requiring rape victims to report their rapes to the police within three days?
