Has it been a month since the SHOT Show? Seems like just yesterday I was comparing sexual aids to firearms innovations [link NSFW]. Although that post didn’t include the Bondhus Arms CL380, I can think of several parallels between the credit card-sized .380 not-a-derringer weapon and a few discreet devices at the AVN Convention. When it comes to the Bondhus ballistic solution, you still can’t buy a thrill. The company website is promising June 2014 delivery for a mere $795. If DoubleTap’s extended roll-out is any guide, maybe later. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

  1. Credit card size? That tool for tools is thicker that the average guy’s wallet. In fact, the average guy’s wallet could fit inside that credit card sized novelty, with room left over for an actual credit card.

And it has a blast shield? Han Solo had a blast shield. Real guns shouldn’t need one.

  2. Is there a way to fold down the “blast shield” without sticking your hand in front of both barrels?

Also, does it come with some kind of time stop mechanism so the BG is forced to wait while I unfold that thing and turn on the laser??

  3. This gun is actually not a terrible concept, assuming they do a little work on it. If there was a single button or lever that readied the gun for firing (popped both shields and the trigger up, and toggled the laser) then it would be no different than a thumb safety on a traditional pistol. As it stands, though, having to rearrange it like a freaking transformer is in no way practical or feasible in a self defense situation.

  4. Okay…….almost choked on my beer as I watched the video of this mini abomination. A bit complex to get going, waaay too expensive. Kind of like a solution in search of a problem. In my opinion, there are far too many options in affordable, readily accessible firearms which can accomplish the task required. This little gadget will likely end up serving as a collector’s curio.

  5. I’ve finally figured out what the designer had in mind. Your supposed to cover this thing with leather and make it look like a wallet, or billfold. Then when the soon to be sorry perp demands your money, you simply pull this thing out, and say, “Here’s my wallet, I’ll even open it up for you!”
    BANG!

    • To make it believable you’d have to tell them you’re ordering the bills from largest to smallest and taking out the pictures of your kids. It takes far too long to deploy with odd controls.

  6. Needs a rail for scope and light mounting.
What can go wrong? To paraphrase Willie the Shake; “How can I maim thee? Let me count the ways!”
All that for a measly $800! I’m guessing about $25 production costs and $775 for liability coverage.

  7. He’s kidding, right?

By the time you finish fiddling with it the bad guy will be helping you just to get it over with. DAMMIT! Here, gimme that thing!

  8. And I tought my Chiappa 2″ .357 Rhino Revolver was ugly bugly. At least it looks like something that could hurt a person, instead of a “what the hell is that” As my dad told me perception is every thing, if ever have to shoot in self defense, I’d like the bad guy to at least know I’m pointing a deadly weapon. .

  9. This thing reminds me of the PS20 from Deus Ex. It was pretty much worthless in the game since it took up an inventory slot and had a fixed damage value. One-shot. There were several weapons and items that were more valuable than one slot.

Shifter at least tried to increase the novelty by letting you stack them up, but still.

  10. There is nothing this gun does that is not done better by another gun. It’s only uses could be novelty and attempts to bring a firearm into a secured area.
