There are some studies pushed by the media that are little more than well-funded propaganda. Then again, there are some that actually appear to have been conducted properly. Rasmussen is one of the more respected polling agencies, and they’ve had a pretty good track record for conducting polls that make sense. Their latest, taken last week, asked people one very simple and straightforward question: Would you feel safer moving to a neighborhood where nobody was allowed to own a gun or a neighborhood where you could have a gun for your own protection? The answer: not New York. And not by a small margin, either. From the results . . .

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 22% of Likely U.S. Voters would feel safer living in a neighborhood where nobody was allowed to own a gun over one where they could have a gun for their own protection. Sixty-eight percent (68%) would feel safer in a neighborhood where guns are allowed, while 10% are not sure.

There’s a rapidly declining proportion of the population who believe that strict civilian disarmament laws stop crime. The truth is that areas with strict gun control laws are often the very places where the most “gun violence” takes place. And that number is growing.

There have been a couple polls in the past few months where the results indicate that Americans believe a gun makes them safer, and that gun control laws wouldn’t stop criminals. This latest Rasmussen poll is a little on the higher side of that equation. It indicates that not only do American believe that gun ownership increases their safety and security, but also that gun owners are safe people to live around.

The stereotype of the redneck gun-owning white supremacist NRA member seems to be retreating into the rear view mirror, despite the best efforts of the Civilian Disarmament Industrial Complex. And their willing accomplices in the media.

        • Gah, I did, in apparently too much of a hurry, that (not pictured above) was very very sneaky. Apparently this particular family photo has made it all over the internet.

  1. I feel pretty safe knowing that I have enough to arm a squad or two. I figure that along with me, my next door and across the street neighbors, we can arm most of the neighborhood if it comes to that.

    • A lot of folks don’t get that:
“Why do you need all those guns?”
“Well, how many guns do YOU have?”
      “None.”
“That’s why I have so many. If it all goes to hell, you’ll be helping with neighborhood defense whether you like it or not.”
Mom always said it was important to share.

    • Always reminds me of Streets of Fire when everybody in neighborhood pours in the street armed with rifles and shotguns to face the motorcycle gang.

  2. Hey wait a minute, you mean all those comercial and News Casters are wrong? But they said ignoring the constitution and making all these gun laws were going to make all the criminals finally see reason.

  3. Feel? I don’t use my feelings to make decisions, my brain tells me that if I shoot back and stop the threat,I’ll live longer.

  4. Who funded the Rasmussen Reports poll? I’m always interested to know who’s paying the bills as a poll that we like with heavy bias is no more valid than one we revile that’s paid for by folks with blatant anti-gun bias.

UPDATE: digging down a level, RR states they do all their own funding, and are not for hire, which is A Good Thing for relying on this poll!

    • You obviously need to pay more attention. If there is a poll, other that Rasmussen, then assume until proven otherwise, that it is BS.

Rasmussen results will normally/frequent correspond with an intelligent human (not progtard) mind would logically expect. As opposed to bilge the NYT/Newsweek/”newmedia” propaganda “polls” feed the world.

      • “If there is a poll that I disagree with, assume it is BS” – is what it sounds like you’re saying, which gives you enough selection bias to be safely ignored.

      • Ruassmussen was WAY off calling one of our more recent presidential elections, thus I don’t trust them any further than I can throw their headquarters building.

  5. 68%… We’re winning, bigtime.

    Now that warms my heart.

Muzzle discipline needs work, trigger discipline looks good.

    • As I have said on this forum numerous times, by far and away most of the United States population does NOT live in Coastal California, Cook County (Illinois), and the Boston-Washington D.C. megalopolis. This latest poll reflects that fact. The only reason anyone thinks otherwise is because gun grabbers have a strangle hold on mainstream media. Little do they know (or, alternately, care) that most of the good people of the United States despise rabid gun control.

  6. Guns don’t make people safer. Guns in the hands of law abiding citizens level the odds against criminal attackers being successful.

    • Significant point!

We don’t want to perpetuate the anti’s fantasy that guns can do anything at all without an actual human being at the controls.

  7. Question from Bloomberg operative: Do you have a gun in your home?
Answer: No, none of your business, get off my property (or some variant)
Result: “blah blah % of people who own guns is declining, blah blah”

Question from Rasmussen: “Would you feel safer moving to a neighborhood where nobody was allowed to own a gun or a neighborhood where you could have a gun for your own protection?”

    answer above

  8. WOW! Look at all that trigger discipline!

    And cool survey too.

Now to work on Muzzle control/awareness.

    • There is no way to tell in a two-dimensional photo where the muzzles are really pointing. If the firearms in the front row are canted even slightly toward the camera, they are pointing in a safe direction.

    • Agree the trigger discipline is great, Muzzle control, not so much. But, other than the 3 young ones in the front, pretty good.

  9. I like the smiling meat wagon employee shown in the photo from the Daily News link about rising shooting deaths in NYC.

    Job security, I guess.

    • The Daily does however blur the distinction between “shooting” deaths and general “homicides” throughout its story, so I wonder what’s ‘real’ about their numbers, especially since they include the following:

“six of the 11 additional killings are considered “reclassified homicides,” meaning the criminal deed occurred months or years earlier, but the victim had just recently died.”

      Truth in reporting?

      Laugh!

Typical misleading media verbosity, me thinks.

  10. OK ya mouth-breathing trailer park meth heads. Now show the stats of how many lives were taken were taken by guns.

Studies show a gun in the home is more likely to kill you or a loved one than `protect` you.

NRA or brietbart stats don’t count and niether does this one since it’s already been corrupted by your puppet masters the gun lobby and the tyrannical NRA.

    • Billions, I think. BTW, my gun tried to kill me this morning, but I had the forethought to take the mag out of it when it was sleeping last night. All it could do was madly click away on an empty chamber as I ate my pop tart.

    • “OK ya mouth-breathing trailer park meth heads.”

Here’s a picture of the house, VivaLaSatire:

      http://www.theledger.com/article/20140407/NEWSCHIEF/140409412?p=all&tc=pgall&tc=ar

It last sold in 2006 for $249,000. Just a bit under a quarter of a million dollars.

      http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/4219-Lake-Marianna-Dr-Winter-Haven-FL-33881/47293134_zpid/

A quarter million for a ‘trailer park’ house.

It’s so much fun laughing at an idiot like you, VivaLaSatire…

      What a moron you are…

      *Snicker*

    • “….OK ya mouth-breathing trailer park meth heads…”

Wow, I’m having a hard time feeling all the love the progressives, like yourself, proclaim you spread. As matter of fact, my feelings are hurt.

    • Must….resist…posting…Anchorman…meme….

      “They’ve done studies, you know…”

VivaLaSatire, would you care to post these supposed unbiased studies you keep claiming exist? The ones that prove I’m going to kill/injure myself with firearms before defending myself with them, those are the studies I’m looking for. Or should we just take your uncredited assertion at face value?

Wait wait wait. I pinched my thumb loading a magazine, I got scope-bit once, and I bruised my shoulder shooting a Mosin-Nagant. I guess I’m a (repeated) victim of “gun injury” now.

    • “Studies show a gun in the home is more likely to kill you or a loved one than `protect` you.” You need to go back to school as the guy that wrote that “study” admitted it was wrong and recanted his position afterwards. That so called study is bogus. But that does not keep the gun grabbers from repeating it. Anything to add to their propaganda campaign.

  11. “The answer: not New York.”

You must have meant the other New York. The one that measures 469 square miles and not the one that takes up 54,555 square miles. The one that has 8 million people, not 11 million. The one that, unfortunately, that is all democrats.

Please start saying New York CITY when that’s what you mean. Yes, we have some bad laws and worse law makers, but we’re not as crazy as much of CA and our laws are not nearly as draconian as NJ or MD. It isn’t that hard to get a pistol permit in most of NYS.

    • It isn’t that hard to get a pistol permit in most of NYS

That’s true if “most of NYS” doesn’t include NYC, Nassau County, Suffolk county, Westchester County, Putnam County, Rochester, Albany . . . . In other words, where the people are.

      • My wife and I and most of my friends have pistol permits, we live in Suffolk. It may take a while but unless you are a felon you will get a permit.

      • It has actually gotten a lot easier in the past few years. In the past they would interview your neighbors. Now they ask for three references and don’t even contact them.
How do I know? I and a fellow co-worker were references for our boss and neither of us was contacted. By the way my co-worker also has a permit. There are more of us than you think.

      • Perhaps you should read my post again where I say that of the 19+ million people, 8M live in NYC and 11M live elsewhere. I’m pretty sure that by any definition, 11 is larger than 8 and therefore does not constitute “most.”

I’ll grant that NYC does control the politics just because all the legislators there are of a like mind, being from NYC.

  12. Thanx to the Internet and shows like “Cops”, reality is starting to break through the mind control illusion that the liberal/progressives/statists in schools and their compatriots in the old media have had over Americans minds for the last fifty years.

Which means of course, the establishment is losing control, and that is when they are the most dangerous.

So expect some crisis, greater than 9/11 to happen to re-establish the control these tyrants need, not just want.

Hitler and his minion Goebbels said it the clearest. It easy to get a countries people in line, in control. Create an enemy they can be frightened by, and call anyone not willing to go along with the program a traitor.

If people in this country think our public servants, (masters) don’t use the same tactics, then they have been asleep since 9/ll, the Patriot Act, Homeland Security, the NDAA and the NSA collecting our phone calls and the current media inspired panic about ISIS.

    • the Patriot Act, Homeland Security, the NDAA and the NSA collecting our phone calls and the current media inspired panic about ISIS will keep us safe in Oceania. Big Brother loves us and I love Big Brother.

  13. Rasmussen’s poll question, if that’s the exact wording, is eminently fair. It completely cuts the feet out from under the antis’ frequent claim that only a “tiny minority of people who hold a view that terrorizes the rest of us” (Hillary Clinton’s words) are in favor of RKBA. The poll question accurately assesses support from people who don’t own guns themselves but are OK with their neighbors owning them (or even prefer that that their neighbors are armed).

That’s in stark opposition to the media/anti mantra that it’s only OFWGs and “ammosexuals” vs everyone else.

Sounds like 68% of likely voters are grown-ups on this issue, and mathematically that has to reflect the views of people on both sides of the political spectrum.

Really happy to see this poll published. I doubt I’ll see it anywhere else, though, because it contradicts the usual media agenda.

  14. All anyone needs to see is the logical reaction in NY after the escaped murderers. People want to have protection, who wouldn’t? To say you don’t would garner a belly-laugh from the average person. In cases such as self defense I’d say no matter the law, a person would defend themselves, choosing survival over an infringing law every time.
