Joe Kump, a police chief from Georgia, sends his everyday off-duty carry lineup entitled “Chief” courtesy of the fine folks at Everyday Carry.

How does his stuff stack up compared to others?

Well, let’s have a closer look.

First up, in writing these EDCs for the last couple of months, I haven’t seen a Rosary before.  Thankfully, in addition to it, he carries something a little more potent for those times when prayer fails.  Specifically a Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm Shield.  Nice.  He packs it in a paddle holster, specifically the Safariland 7371 7TS ALS Slim, Concealment Holster w/Micro-Paddle.  Apparently he doesn’t find his paddle holster uncomfortable.  I never cared for them because too often, for me at least, they tend to pinch, poke or stick me when I bend over at the waist to pick stuff up off the ground (like spent magazines).

Like a good Boy Scout he carries a reload, but unlike a good Scout, he doesn’t carry a flashlight.  Maybe bad guys don’t do bad things in the dark in his bucolic town?

Like a lot of cops, he carries two wallets… one for the usual stuff and one for the badge and credentials.

For his blade, he carries a Gerber EVO.

Does anyone have any thoughts on paddle holsters?  Some folks must like them because people keep buying them.

  1. So, this guy could kill me for no reason whatsoever and get away with it scot-free, and I’m supposed to give two shits what his EDC is?

    Nope.

    • You are an idiot!!!
Be safe, think long hard and twice before you do anything and you might make it.
Oh, and please stay away from guns, vehicles, knives and light bulbs.

    • Aren’t you just a peppy little spit fuck.

Nodboy forcing you to look or care, especially comment. If you have a thing against police – ignore them and assuming you are not doing anything dumb or illegal, they will ignore you too. Funny how that works.

        • When did the Untied States start employing police forces? And what did they do before that? British soldiers were “policing the colonies prior to the Revolution but afterward they of course were gone so then what?
We know for a fact we have been fed a line for years which was “To Serve and Protect” until the Supreme Court wised us up. Police forces now are a closed society with a hierarchy who answers to no none. Their methods and rules are not public knowledge and I have seen over the years their diminishing interaction with the people that pay them. Crime continues unabated and easy targets are touted as success stories yet those easy target such as DUI still exist. Police rule with fear and force. Your arrest whether right or wrong is not their concern while they cuff you but your furtive movement prior to handcuffing will result in your execution. And “furtive” is the key word. Everything and anything in your hand is a gun. In the courtroom it can be your word against the trusted cop’s word (“testilying” they call it) who is the paid and built-in ready witness for the DA. The jury is ignorant about nullification and the judge and DA see juries as worthy of ridicule. There is hardly one problem that cannot be traced to the use of police and court system we have. They need wrong-doers to protect their jobs. More laws is more money for them and taxpayers foot the bill even for their own execution.
Blindly supporting police makes corruption easy and will earn one the title of “copsucker”.

        • Wyman In the world in which I live the chief of Police serves at the discretion of an elected city council and mayor. Our Sheriff is elected by the voters and stands for re-election every four years.
Best as I can tell sherrifs existed in Colonial times and Police Departments could be found in large communities since the early 1800’s so they aren’t a invention of the New World Order
So if you don’t like the Police look at the voters

    • Quit trying to identify with and empathize with a subset of the population that you have nothing in common with. Unless you actually are a criminal….

        • I hit “reply” to cgray, but that is not clear now I see. Replying to cgray who thinks cops are going to kill him.

      • Waywatcher, thanks for clearing that up. Don’t be to hard on Cgray. His tinfoil hat probably fit a little too tight when he got it back from the dry cleaner yesterday.

    • I also carry OWB especially during winter when it’s easy to conceal. Not a cop. Not the slightest bit overweight.

    • Not a cop…butI am overweight and do not care about printing one little bit. Two out of three ain’t bad, I guess. 🙂

      • On a serious note, I do use a paddle holster from time to time, but not as an EDC. It rubs my hip in the wrong places if I wear it too long, but I wear it around the house & yard sometimes or under a jacket when I’m out running errands because it’s super convenient. Just grab and go. Sometimes it’s the right thing.

    • I am not a cop and I don’t care about printing. I have never used an IWB. For me it is either OWB, shoulder holster, or jacket pocket holster. All are more comfortable than IWB for me.

    • I’m not a cop and I OPEN carry. If you have a problem with that I bet you would be too scared to say it to my face in real life.

      • No, I don’t think I would be scared to say it to your face. I’ve faced a lot of really scary guys. You know; murders, armed robbers, etc. Deliverance, your open carry doesn’t frighten me and the fact that you would even refer to it at all leads me to believe that few have anything to fear from you. Like more than a couple I’ve known, and I mean cops too, they want to sport an open pistol to show they’re not cowards. But, the truth always comes out.

        • Oh, and I don’t think open carry should be illegal, I just don’t think it’s real smart most of the time. Especially, in an urban environment. I’m sorry if I insulted you, but a truth is a truth.

        • You think you’re hard? You ain’t hard. I know hard. And you ain’t it. I’m hard. I’m so hardcore I once had my way with a guy who trespassed on my land.

        • Deliverance, I know you’re joking, but really, how many life threatening situations have you been in? Entertain us with one. You know, a real one. Not a Walter Mitty fantasy.

    • Honestly, unless you live in Florida or South Carolina (or Illinois), there’s no reason to carry IWB.

      • Danny, if FL, SC, and IL (?) qualify for IWB why doesn’t GA, AL, MS, LA and every other hot, humid state? Not being an ass, just wondering.

        • BTW Danny, I don’t think I’ve ever replied to one of your posts before because, well, you’re mostly right.

    • I carry OWB, I am old but I am still fit. I also often use a paddle holster because you never have to handle your pistol virtually eliminating the chance for an ND.

    • Really? What’s better than a Safariland retention holster? I personally wear a Safariland SLS (the same one most cops do).

  2. I also carry OWB. Shield 9mm in an Alien Gear Cloak Mod. I’m neither fat or a cop and I could give 2 shits about printing but if necessary I will shoot dumb shits and scum bags. Especially punk ass keyboard commandos. Don’t bother to reply. Because I don’t care about your feelings or opinions.

    • lol. Get real dude. You care. You care hard as fuck. You just threatened to shoot someone based off online comments, and consider yourself some kind of vigilante looking for a citizens arrest. Please, stay out of the news. You already give us a bad image.

$100 says this guy road rages on a daily basis. Who wants in?

        • You don’t carry. You’re too scared. You’d get raped in my neck of the woods.

        • “YOU” don’t have a neck of the woods. It’s a trailer park, and there are plenty of other trashy people just like you who seem to think you own the ghetto.

        • Also, I don’t carry?:

          https://everydaycarry.com/profile/109117/unknown

Scared? Scared of what? Defending myself? lol. You are scared, that is why you create problems and go looking for trouble to try and prove yourself. You are going to end up on the news. Just another dead idiot trying to be a hero or a cop when you have no business being either. Either that, or the jury will fuck you and take away all your shit, then YOU get buttfucked in prison. Scrawny little keyboard commando. Either that, or you are the fat one. Bet your body fat is well above 14%. You don’t fool anyone here, not even the old trump loving fat dudes.

  3. The only time I use a paddle holster is when paddling the leaky canoe to the middle of the lake………Another cops gunm EDC. Still waiting on the Gangbangers EDC or the Mezkins Drug Runners, I might even go for an IRA’s edc. This site certainly seems prejudiced,, cop this, cop that. However it did run two pizza WAP’s EDC’s so guess it ain’t all bad.

  4. Paddle holsters work. Personally I’ve always found the hip-conforming ones from SafariLand to be the best and I have nothing against their ALS holsters, think I even have one around here somewhere. I don’t tend to get along with the BlackHawk! brand paddles.

This is one of those things where “one size fits most poorly” but when they do if you they work pretty well so you’re likely to either love them or hate them.

Also, this guy looks like the LEO version of Colonel Sanders. Not sure if that’s the look he was going for but that’s the one he pulled off.

  5. Anyone notice the, Rosary? Anyone making comments ever do a back to back, shift? Anyone of you ever Thank the Lord for just allowing you to, come home? Walk, the walk. PK 105, mpdc.

    • Whenever I pull a shift at the local church, I pray that I have an absolutely boring shift. As Shift Lead, I pray for every team member, and they say, “Amen!”.

We don’t want to use our training. We just want to go home to our families, along with everyone else in the building.

  6. Why carry a Shield in a paddle holster when he can carry a full size gun, like maybe his service gun? My guess is he shots the shield very well.

  7. I trust the credibility of this carry as much as I trust alien gear to have decent stuff. So no, not at all. A police chief who uses his real name and shares his EDC online? but why? Especially with such a shitty holster and shitty knife, with no light to boot. Granted, he is a “chief” of a podunk town and grossly overweight, if that is him… so not really surprised.

    • Everyone here including yourself is likely grossly overweight. Nearly half of America is obese at this point. So go chow down lardass.

      • I don’t know Deliverance. I’ve had a mental picture of you as Ned Beatty. I mean, after all you choose the screen name…

        • Come on down to Arkansas and find out. I once found a guy trespassing in my woods and guess what happened to him.

        • Deliverance took place in North Georgia. However, concerning the guy trespassing; did he bend over the log, or did you?

        • We all know this keyboard commando is full of shit. Sad to see people so thuggish online. If your stance is “come and take it” I am with you, but the way he conducts himself as a threat to everyone, he’s like a failed UFC fighter that got cut halfway through “real world” – mtv style – training the TV show spike used to have.

People like him are all smiles in person. Probably works at a grocery store as a cashier and is friendly AF right up until he can take it out on the people driving on his way home as a road rager.

          Pathetic scum.

  8. I’m over 70,in good shape and not overweight. I don’t care for open carry,I use iwb holster for my every day carry (9mm shield).A jacket or shirt outside of the pants a must.A cell phone and wallet enough.
