California gunman's wife found dead in home

Searching the home of Rancho Tehama spree killer Kevin Neal revealed a fifth murder victim, his wife. “Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston said Wednesday they found the body of Kevin Neal’s wife in the floor boards inside their home.’We believe that’s what started this whole event,’ he said, adding that they were searching for Neal’s wife under suspicions that something might have happened to her. He said: ‘[We believe he] cut a hole in the floor and literally put her body in the hole.'”

Neal apparently murdered his wife and two neighbors with whom he’d been feuding before going on a wild ride through the town of Rancho Tehama Reserve, shooting at random targets before focusing his fire on the local elementary school.

According to his mother, Neal was increasingly frustrated with an ongoing dispute with his neighbors. She told the Associated Press her son claimed his neighbors were running a methamphetamine lab with fumes that were harming his nine dogs.

She said Neal called him the day before the shooting saying: “Mom it’s all over now. I have done everything I could do and I am fighting against everyone who lives in this area.”

Two of his first victims were two of his neighbors, police said. …

Fourteen people, including 7 children, were injured.

Neal, who was prohibited from owning firearms based on two outstanding felony assault charges as well as a restraining order issued to his neighbors had three firearms — two handguns and a semi-automatic rifle — during the attack. California’s famously rigid gun control laws apparently didn’t restrain him in the least.

Neal was shot and killed in a subsequent shootout with police.

    • Ya they will…. obviously us law abiding citizens who don’t beat our wives, aren’t addicted to drugs, aren’t mentally adjudicated crazy, and haven’t been convicted of any felonies need MORE laws to keep us safe from ourselves…. for the children of course. Oh great and benevolent God State of California, please have mercy on us and save us!

  1. If they meth allegations are true, he deserved the Medal of Freedom (albeit, they don’t bestow such awards on posthumous otherwise killers and felons).

    • I wondered about his meth accusations about his neighbors earlier this morning… if it’s true, was he just frustrated that the local law couldn’t/wouldn’t do anything about it and he finally snapped?
But now his wife is found under the floorboards… never mind, he was a dangerous loon in need of involuntary committal after all.

      • “…never mind, he was a dangerous loon in need of involuntary committal after all.”

Your spell-checker is on the fritz… It says “involuntary committal”, but the correct spelling is “euthanasia”.

    • Medal of freedom? WTF is wrong with you? Let’s say they were meth dealers and cookers, this asshole still murdered his wife and shot up the town, and those kids that were injured certainly did him no harm.

    • The primary goal of the three L’s Libertarians Liberals and the Left is for everyone to be able to legally shoot up crystal meth in public to improve their sexual experience.

Armed self-defense has never been a primary goal of Libertarians Liberals or the Left.

      • It took me years to cotton to the fraud that the Libertarians are on guns and RKBA.

Now, I believe that the only issues “Libertarians” (as in the LP) care about are a) drugs, b) tax evasion, and c) buttsecks. That’s it. RKBA and guns – they might give lip service to the issue, but they don’t really care about it.

        • The Libertarian Party doesn’t speak for libertarians. They are frauds.

If you don’t agree with me then you are a hypocrite especially if you think the Republican Party represents you. Does Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, and John McCain represent your values? They are Republicans too so therefore you must agree with all their stances including being against Trump.

        • As a gay libertarian with a couple decades of RKBA activism (and I mean real activism, not the slacktivism that’s so popular these days):
          a) I don’t do drugs, but I also don’t care if other people do drugs as long as they don’t hurt other people as a result. If they do, well, I’m okay with euthanasia, too, but only after a fair trial.
          b) Libertarians tend to be more about not collecting taxes for pointless projects that the government shouldn’t be involved in in the first place, not about EVADING taxes.
          c) I’ll give you the buttsecks (hur hur)

But if you’d rather we vote for whichever the next Clinton is, by all means keep telling us how much you hate us. You might actually change somebody’s mind – just not the way I thought you wanted to.

        • Having been born and raised in California. I can state with absolute accuracy homosexuals are socialist progressive in their political orientation.
They totally support the Welfare Industrial Complex. Many of them are government workers there. Gays totally support replacing a father with a government check. Homosexuals say it’s just a different American family when a woman has five children all from different men. And she receives a welfare check for each child. They are examples of women having over 20 kids all from different men. Each child means a government check.

If the woman wants to have a monogamous relationship, she has to hide it from the government. If she is found having a sexual relationship with a man, she can be prosecuted, fined and or sent to jail.

Homosexuals like using the powers of the state to interfere in the private intimate lives of straight people.
There is no elected open homosexual who supports gun rights or the Bill of Rights in general.

The one and only elected open homosexual who supported the second amendment was Harvey Milk San Francisco city council member. He publicly said everyone should have a gun.
To this day most homosexuals ignore his advice, because they are socialist progressive in their political orientation.

      • All the “Libertarian Liberals” I know are from the same gay married couples defending their marijuana fields with “assault rifles” crowd. They are what you call social libertarians and fiscal moderates/liberals. They support things like public funding of various projects (varying degrees from roads to health care) that fiscal libertarians oppose.

  2. Absolutely shocked that the laws of the People’s Republic of California were insufficient to keep firearms out of this criminal’s hands. It’s almost like he had no respect for the law! /s

Any person who is subject to a temporary restraining order or an injunction issued pursuant to Code of Civil Procedure sections 527.6 or 527.8, a protective order as defined in Family Code section 6218, a protective order issued pursuant to Penal Code sections 136.2 or 646.91, or a protective order issued pursuant to Welfare and Institutions Code section 15657.03

Any person who is under indictment or information in any court for a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year

      • I looked up the federal law last night too.

Under the GCA someone under felony indictment cannot ship, receive or transport across state lines a firearm or ammo. However, under the GCA they may keep what they have unless convicted. Whether or not they have to surrender currently held items is a state issue.

That said the reporting of indictment to the FBI falls on the state and from what I can tell the reporting rate is atrocious.

    • Oh, Skippy, don’t you know in the “land of the free” they’ll take your “rights” away at the drop of a hat.

      Just give ’em an excuse.

      It’s guilty until proven innocent.

      • The sheriff ought to familiarize himself with the laws he’s supposed to be enforcing, then, because I’m pretty sure being the subject of a temporary restraining order makes you a prohibited person in California.

        • Yep – it absolutely does. Sheriff dropped the ball big-time on this one. Just like the Air Force did with that church-shooting crapsack in Texas, and just like the Feds did with that church-shooting crapsack in South Carolina.

  3. Yeah restraining orders work very well if you add about 9 in of damp paper to the back of that restraining order and then get about a thousand phone books to go with it and damping them and then put those all in the front of your house up against the walls that’s the only way it’ll help stop a bullet or a crazy person or anyone at that point. All a restraining order is a feel good piece of paper and if the person violates it then the police can go arrest him after he comes over and butchers you in the middle of the night what a freaking joke.

    • Actually, a restraining order is a valuable piece of evidence for your defense, if you end up having to shoot someone you know because they showed up wanting to end you and your family. A restraining order provided to a woman should always come with the advice to get a gun and some training.

      • “A restraining order provided to a woman should always come with the advice to get a gun and some training.”

        That’s tax money I wouldn’t mind spending.

        /fixed

      • Smith & Wesson Sd9ve. $300
        Ruger ARX ammo. $20
        2x boxes training ammo. <$20
An hour of basic pistol training. <$100 (use a Groupon!)
"Here's you restraining order Ma'am. Back it up with this other stuff and call us if we need to get you a mop later."
        🤠

        • Could trim the cost a little more and go with SCCY CPX-3 or CPX-2 for around 199.99 + tax (Rural King- http://www.rkguns.com), 4 boxes of Armscor 9mm, 2 boxes of Hornady Critical Defense Lite, and a basic training/ familiarization course with concealed carry licensing built in.

    • Don’t forget murder! Murder is against the law here too! I had to look that up in the penal code just to make sure. Apparently we need more laws making murder even more illegaler.

  4. “She told the Associated Press her son claimed his neighbors were running a methamphetamine lab with fumes that were harming his nine dogs.”

I’m gonna go with “What is a nutjob circling the drain for $200”. If his neighbors were running a meth lab in a way that was actually harming this guy’s dogs other people would have noticed it and his reporting of it to the police would have sparked an investigation that would have uncovered it almost immediately.

If you’re venting enough fumes from a meth lab to harm your neighbor’s dogs you’re not exactly being discrete.

    • F’ing with my dog is a good way to get the cops called. F’ing with your own dogs in such a way is also another way for that to happen.

Off topic: Did you ever get that YouTube channel up and running?

      • The videos for the review of Destiny 2 are on that channel actually.

The rest of it, not yet. Learning to edit video is actually pretty time consuming. Maybe I’m just dumb when it comes to doing it but, at least for me, it’s kind of a huge PITA that takes a lot of time and recently, due to some family emergencies, I haven’t had much time to really sit down and work on it for a solid period of time and doing it in 20-30 minute shots seems to make it even harder.

I’ve also been working in my narration. Trying to get the “um’s” and “ah’s” down to 0 while doing a video like what the stuff I’m working on is shockingly hard to do.

  5. ABC and a few other outlets are reporting this guy made his own guns to get around the laws, but I can’t find specifics. Curious if anyone has found more info anywhere.

    • Saw that on Fox too. No real explanation on it though and it could just be the police practicing CYA for the state and fed governments dropping the ball again. Although, his brother was quoted as saying his brother built the rifles and they were not registered nor did they have serial numbers so I’m guessing it was an 80% lower or his brother is another liberal anti gun loon and using this situation to make a name for himself and try to get in on sucking a little of Daddy Bloomberg’s giant cash c*ck along with the rest of the anti gun loon platoon.
On another note it wasn’t like they didn’t know he had guns. Neighbors had reported him for firing off rounds pretty frequently. Pretty sure his wife may have told them he was armed when she called them out for domestic violence and to top it off his neighbor probably said he had guns when he had him arrested for assault back in January. What do the police need? A ginormous laser light show with strippers and neon lights proclaiming that the nut job out behind his house rattling off 400 rounds a day after stabbing his neighbor and beating his wife has guns in his house and should probably be remanded without bail or at least committed so somebody can determine just how far the cheese has slipped off his cracker? What will it take for people to start demanding a little better job of intervention in these situations before they go nuclear?
These crimes are not gun issues! They are mental health and justice failures. Criminals and mental defectives with guns are not the same as gun owners with guns. Conflating the two just cause we share a single characteristic is like calling your house cat a lion. Just because they both have claws doesn’t mean they will both kill you and eat your face… the house cat has the decency to wait until you’ve died of natural causes and the Meow Mix is gone to begin such an endeavor. Gun Owners generally wait until you pose a legitimate threat to life, limb, and property before ventilating your sorry carcass while the nut job just starts ventilating folks because the movies, Martians, or voices in their head told them to or hell maybe it was just a Monday and Garfield told them to do it.

      • Now his family is telling the press that this guy had serious mental health issues, including anger/rage management issues but refused to seek treatment. Mother, who is in North Carolina, says she couldn’t do anything about him.

      • The “ghost gun” law may be in effect, but we don’t know when he built his rifle. According to reporting, the sheriff’s office could never get this guy to come to the door, and they even kept him under observation, but his home was built in such a way they could never tell when he was there. (This guy really didn’t like cops.)

  6. “She said Neal called him the day before the shooting saying: “Mom it’s all over now. I have done everything I could do and I am fighting against everyone who lives in this area.””

Just another day for “Mom” and Neal.

  7. Tough guy, proving his machismo by ambushing a bunch of kids, like that inhuman numbnuts in Sandy Hook.

Please revive him so I can spit in the degenerate’s face. Please.

  8. “the house cat has the decency to wait until you’ve died of natural causes and the Meow Mix is gone to begin such an endeavor.”
Pfffht… says you… I’m not taking that chance. Cats are only as domesticated as they feel like being… don’t delude yourselves one moment I to thinking Mr.Pawpaws can’t or won’t take care of himself if he found himself in the streets.🤠

  9. So there is another piece here on TTAG that talks about people connected to Sandy Hook going after Remington. If that’s the case shouldn’t an organization like CalGuns go after the mother now? Also, seems like the neighbors made complaints about the shooting. If LE didn’t confiscate blame is with them now too.
