#ParentsPromiseToKids

Thanks to social media and the enabling mainstream media, the Children’s Crusade Against Gun Rights continues apace. The latest mutation: #ParentsPromiseToKids. If you want to know how this “contract” came to be, newyorker.com is happy to oblige . . .

Last week, in Parkland, Florida, after classes had resumed and news trucks had left, two sixteen-year-old juniors at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School sat at a dining-room table, in a gated community, trying to launch a movement. Adam Buchwald, stroking a precocious five-o’clock shadow, pitched a visitor. “We want parents to sign a contract,” he said, “promising their kids that they’ll vote for leaders who put kids’ safety over guns.”

The contract concept had occurred to Adam and his friend Zach Hibshman—who each knew two of the fourteen students killed at their school—in the Buchwalds’ den, where they’d been hunkering down since the shooting.

“Last Friday, we were just, like, ‘Let’s change the world,’ ” Zach, who was wearing gym clothes, said.

“Our classmates marched in Tallahassee, which we think is great,” Adam went on, referring to the #NeverAgain movement. “But our movement will make a major change in future elections.”

The #ParentsPromiseToKids movement upends the usual parent – child dynamic. More than that, it depends on the existence of parents who are as unfamiliar with rational thinking as their children. A fair assumption I’d say.

What’s your promise to your children? Do you promise to vote your guns? If so, why?

  1. I promise to teach my kid marksmanship, safety, and civics.
I promise to vote “my guns” by voting for the Constitution.

    • I promised myself to get two kids through school while making sure they didn’t go leftist.
It was a constant chore to de-program the sheet during high school but by the time they got to college they could recognize the BS themselves.
Both are dues paying NRA memeber from their own paychecks.

    • “…sat at a dining-room table, ****in a gated community,*** trying to launch a movement.

Must be nice to start an anti-gun movement inside a fortress.

  2. So, since the US has more criminal justice rights, that allow a lot of criminals to get away, and since over 90% of murder of children is done by prior criminals, we need to support politicians who want decrease in Fourth and Fifth Amendment rights.
\Or do what almost all of Europe do as well as Australia and not have this prohibition on double jeopardy.

I mean let’s “‘support safety” and do away with the whole bill of rights, it kills thousands of kids.

    • “90% of murder of children is done by prior criminals” – I don’t know where you’re getting that statistic but I highly doubt it. I’d be willing to bet that the vast, vast majority of children murdered are actually killed by law-abiding citizens, given that it happens prior to their birth.

    • Let’s defund and deny the quasi-ally EU. Let their invited hordes come and Fv<K their sh_t up and take over the cruise missile the remainder.

We’ll see if you POS-princesses want to talk about our rights after that.

  3. I taught them how to properly handle firearms and good marksmanship. (Along with civics, right and wrong, math, civility, self defense, etc)
Now I’m doing the same with my granddaughter.

And as a side note, it’s a calm and sunny day out. Rare this time of year. Time to get my (new to me), .22-250 sighted in. I’ve got a few different loads worked up.

    • It is a calm and sunny day here as well! So I invited my teenage child to get some trigger time on my new pellet-rifle. It was a chance to reinforce the four rules of firearms safety AND have some fun shooting at paper and reactive targets. Both of us enjoyed the time and did not harm anyone.

In other words I am keeping my promise to raise responsible children who who respect and observe the four rules of firearm safety and who are decent marksmen. That is a bulwark against tyranny, both foreign and domestic.

    • Tom how could you have taught anyone math when you wrongly claim NFLers disproportionately commit crimes!?

How could you teach anything that requires critical thinking when the very source you cite as supposed evidence for NFLers disproportionate criminality says JUST THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU CLAIMED!?

And how can we rely on anything you post when your copy and paste omitted the one sentence that contradicted your racist smear of NFLers as disproportionately criminal!?

  4. I, oh noes promise to provide ho noes jr an assault rifle with 10, 30 round magazines upon her 18th birth day.

    Signed: OH Noes

  5. 1. I will teach you how to earn money from the community at large, so you will be able to provide for yourself.

    2. I will teach you to be scientifically literate and how to think skeptically and rationally.

    3. I will teach you how to safely handle and operate firearms for your protection.

    4. I will teach you how the world is and your place in it, most importantly how to survive it.

The rest is up to you to become the person you wish to be.

Oh yeah and how to drive a damn stick shift vehicle.

    • yep if i had kids and they presented me with that they would be in their room for a week getting nothing but stale bread and water. then upon release they would be presented with a counter promise, one based in the harsh realities of life.
they probably would not come to me with something like that though as from about the age of 4 i would have been teaching them martial arts, armed combat skills with all sorts of weapons, civics, among many other similar fields. all stuff my pacifist religious nutbag parents who believed in turning the other cheek never taught me but i taught myself over the years. BTW in my late teens i started teaching my younger brothers this stuff as they were getting bullied in school as had i been along with the threat that if i heard they had been using it to bully others that they would get the raw end of the deal from me. parents went off their heads at the time but seems that 20 years later they are finally seeing i was right and that their rose colored view of the world as far as how they tried to raise us was wrong. in saying that dad was australian country conservative trying to effect govt change by educating the public and voting when the system is rigged so that is not possible. that i also saw right through.

  6. I never had to hide or lock up my guns from my kids. they were taught not to touch them and when they were old enough and responsible enough [ not always the same] they were taught how to handle guns safely and then how to use them. They are grown adults that are very responsible and good shots. They respect our country and our constitution. They are not snowflakes.

  7. 1. Using “no rifle” sign in place of ‘o’ in the word “contract”
    2. Coercing parents to make promises to their children (even though it’s actually aimed at mass compliance)
    3. Ambiguous but manipulative phrase “leaders [sic] who will support your children’s safety over guns”
    4. #social #media #propaganda

This is getting downright culty, certainly more so than gun enthusiasts/”nuts”. I personally don’t support the corporate schooling system, but even if you disagree, I wouldn’t say that you don’t “support your children’s safety over schools”.

  8. “After a shooting spree, they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn’t do it.”

    — William S. Burroughs

Since the “children” are the ones shooting up schools, my promise(s) to children would be:

    1. You cannot buy guns until you are 21. Too bad, so sad. There goes your 2A rights.
    2. Since the correlation between video games and school shooting is as direct as the correlation between the AR (the gun you want to ban) peacefully resting in my gun safe and a school shooting 1000 miles away from me, you cannot buy or play video games until you are 21. Since many games are multi-party, your 1A Freedom of Association is buh-bye.
    3. You will be searched every day when you enter the school. No bags will be permitted; carry your books strapped together. Students don’t have a 4th Amendment right aginst unreasonable searches and seizures.
    4. Since bullying is causing student deaths, you are prohibited from speaking or writing anything in school that does not relate directly to the curriculum. Also, after school, no Facebook or other social media for you, since that’s the home of cyber-bullying. Kiss your Freedom of Speech goodbye.
    5. Younger drivers are responsible for a disproportionate number of accidental deaths, so no driving for you until you are 21. Driving is a privilege and not a right.

They want us to do something. So give them what they want, good and hard. And — bonus! — these indelicate proposals would actually work.

    • If the liberal kiddies want the gun purchase age raised to 21 then other rights and privileges can be raised to 21.
I can hear the tantrums now.

  9. I promise to own a wide range of firearms to bequeath to my children if a ban ever passes. I promise to teach them responsible ownership, usage and maintenance. I promise to teach my children to not be victims in their minds or in their lives.

As a Jew, I promise to teach them “Never Again!”

    • CTStooge (nothing as bad as): Just wait, it’ll get even dumber, even if it never gets any better. Have faith in the bottom-of-the-barrel-self-described-wunderkind, they’ll expect to get awarded for being losers in life.

  10. why im so old i can remember way back in 19 ought 95 when democrats were totally open and honest about their agenda:

“BREITBART) Breitbart.com has uncovered video from 1995 of then-U.S. Attorney Eric Holder announcing a public campaign to “really brainwash people into thinking about guns in a vastly different way.””

    http://mobile.wnd.com/2013/01/holder-in-1995-brainwash-people-against-guns/

oh and dont forget this classic:

“If I could’ve gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them — Mr. and Mrs. America turn ’em all in — I would have done it. I could not do that. The votes weren’t here.”

    http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2013/01/01/reminder-sen-feinstein-said-she-wants-all-guns-banned/

NEVER FORGET WHERE THEY CAME FROM

ITS THE BEST INDICATOR WHERE THEYRE HEADED

  11. i will teach you to respect and honor our flag/country/god,our laws and the eldery.use common sense and good judgement.stand on your own two feet.get a good education.be compassionate.teach you gun handling/safety.and hope i like my grandfather to my father, and my father to me,and me to my children,i can only hope i have pointed you in the lawful and right direction in life.

  12. I promise to explain to my child the reason for the 2nd, and the constitution as a whole. I promise to show them proper handling, marksmanship, fundamentals, and safety with a firearm. I promise to show them how our laws are supposed to be made, how checks and balances work, and how terrible those people can be. I promise to be the best parent I can be, and to be there for my kids, and for them to know that they always have someone who loves them, so they don’t turn out psychotic and shoot up a school.

  13. I promise that I will shoot anybody I catch trying to hurt you and I promise when you are old enough I’ll teach you how to shoot anybody that is trying to hurt you.

    Awe… Warms the soul.

  14. What’s your promise to your children? I gave them some of my guns.
Do you promise to vote your guns? Of course.
    If so, why? Combat Bolshevism.

  15. I’ll promise to choose my children over the totalitarian nanny state anti-gunners strive for. By continuing to teach them safe firearms handling, good judgment and by voting to ensure they enjoy the same (or more) freedom I’ve had.

  16. “I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same”

  17. Despite me trying my best, one of my three was convicted of a non-violent felony and spent some years in jail. The other went into the Army and was in SADR City in ’04 and again in ’06 when he was blown up by an IED and lived to tell the tale. Daughter…meh. Shouldn’t say that but, she’s …weird. Don’t know for sure. Anyway… But, I promised my children that I would always be there for them no matter what! Going to get my oldest a Black powder gun so he can have some protection should he need it. My children are more important to me than any freaking law. Crap, meant to say also that all 3 of them were taught gun safety and how to shoot! It’s what a Dad ( 1SG) does right?

    • I have been out of the black powder scene for some time. Guns were not a registration and background check problem, but the powder used to be a paperwork dam. Don’t know about current laws. Good cap and ball revolver would be best.

  18. I promised my granddaughter she could have my guns when the time came as long as she promised to make sure that the guns stayed in the family. She has a brother 3 male and 1 female cousin and a daughter(so far), so I am sure that someone will continue keeping them “just in case”.

  19. My late father and father in law would never this silly contract however they both would have given their lives to protect us.

  20. I promise to have enough firearms that all three of you will inherit enough to defend and protect yourselves and families from the tyrranical government I could not stop from growing.

  21. My promise to my children, ” If you kids don’t stay outta mah drive n whiskey, so help me gawd I’m gonna beat you with this stick!!”

  22. You can sign that contract and still vote for pro gun candidates. Your kids may not understand it now but the gun control candidates aren’t the ones looking out for their safety.

  23. I promise to let the high school know that I fully support the sheriff’s deputy posted inside the school.

  24. My daughter and I headed to the mall to get her mother some impulse gifts for my wife’s upcoming birthday.

My daughter asked me why I was bringing a gun.

I told her so that I can make sure she’s safe.

    End of discussion.

  25. What kind of promotions do not suit online casinos this fall – deposit bonuses, no deposit bonuses, virtual loans and, finally, free spins. Online casino canada free spins are one of the most popular ways to attract new customers, as they provide the opportunity to try out games (primarily slots) and even win real money. Some lucky ones (or very smart players) manage to use free spins to win and withdraw real money without any deposits at all. However, free spins are somehow related to certain conditions (they are different in different casinos), as a result of which it is very difficult to win decent money only on free spins – most likely, you will have to make a deposit sooner or later.
