From the NSSF . . .

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the firearm industry trade association, revealed that the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) processed 687,788 background checks during the week leading up to and including Black Friday. FBI’s NICS recorded 187,585 on Black Friday alone, ranking it among the Top 10 Highest Days for NICS checks and a .50 percent increase from Black Friday 2020 (186,645). The NICS checks are unadjusted, representing raw data from the FBI and are inclusive of all background checks related to firearms.

NSSF has worked with firearm retailers to spread out special sales offers to customers throughout the week leading up to Black Friday so as not to overwhelm FBI NICS on Black Friday which can result in longer than normal wait times.

“This figure of over 687,000 background checks is truly remarkable,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO. “This year has already been shaping up to be the second strongest year for firearm sales on record, second only to 2020’s record-breaking number of 21 million background checks for a firearm sale. We anticipate, based on annual data, that firearm sales will rise during the final month of the year coinciding with hunting seasons and holiday sales. This figure, though, underscores the appetite for lawful firearm ownership in America and the resilience of the firearm and ammunition industry to meet that demand.”

Below are the breakout tables for each day of unadjusted FBI NICS background checks and The Top 10 Highest Days of FBI Background Checks.

  1. none for me. the immediate neighborhood gained a p365 (i couldn’t really hit with it, but he did ok), and a newby owner got3, a shield 9 ez, a fn509 and an ria 1911 gov’t.
that filip .45 is impressive. between that and the cz52 i rebruised all the ribs healing from forgetting to unlock my forks (bitch slapped).

    • ” i rebruised all the ribs healing from forgetting to unlock my forks (bitch slapped).”

      Yeowch. 🙁

I busted a mess of ribs about 15 years back while bike riding, and it hurt worse and far longer than my lower leg did.

The worst part about busted ribs is only hurts when you breathe… 🙁

  2. Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way…..
    Dashing through the snow
    In a one-horse open sleigh
    O’er the fields we go
    Laughing all the way
    Bells on bobtails ring
    Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
    A sleighing song tonight

  3. I’m STILL WAITING for a R I A shotgun since Father’s Day 2021,
After all these are made in the U S so I don’t think it’s held up on a ship somewhere.
Should have gotten it by now .
Very disappointed in a American gun manufacturer that can’t deliver in a reasonable amount of time.

    • I got bullets. Lot’s of more “affordable” bullets. My LGS had some handguns at a shockingly low price but I passed. So no background checks…

  4. I took your last table ( Nov 30,1998-Nov 26,2021)
If you add all of 2021 days together the average day would regist the fifth highest day of record.209,980 NICSThat’s
a lot of checks and what is the average of no sell tos’ vs sell OK?
I’m waiting for my money to but my Rock Island Model 52009 10 mm 1911 double stack for bear country berry picking in my Alaska Rig Chest holster.

A “Local Shop” about 6 hours South of me!

  5. I didn’t buy anything “gun” I wanted during Black Friday Week. I never do, its too close to Christmas. So I put in on my Christmas “gun” wish list and pass (email/text) out copies at the beginning of November so others can buy me something “gun” for a Christmas gift.

        • I have a good supply at present so I haven’t shopped for any.
However the important part is as I load for defense with the biggest baddest I can get for my 9mm I have to practice with a comparable load to assure Point Of Aim/Point Of Impact is equal . to do this at the range I shoot a box of FMJ and a Mag of HST same target same distance.

  6. What’s bothersome is the very fact that 687,000 applications to exercise a right codified in our nation’s core Founding Document are even a matter of record in the first place.

      • Probably not going to happen to any serious degree, as he doesn’t have enough obvious buddies in SCOTUS to survive the inevitable legal challenges to EOs, either.

  7. I didn’t buy anything over the weekend. But, I seldom buy on a 4473. Private sales are legal in Florida. So, yeah, that’s it, I didn’t buy anything.

    • What about jurisdictions that don’t require NICS for retail purchases for CCW holders? Some of us enjoy those fruits…

  8. I didn’t buy anything this past weekend, but I did pick up a Pedersoli Sharp’s Target Rifle in .45-70 from the California “10 day jail” on the 19th. I even managed to score 100 rounds of 45-70 for $2/round.

    • Nice, Mark. Something like that is on my cash windfall list, mostly for the “cool” factor. Although, that caliber was legalized for deer in OH a while back, so I do have another reason if needed…

  9. I may or may not have bought the wife a revolver from he lgs a friend owns and always gives me a brotherhood of the silk discount.

  10. Picked up a case of ammo at the gun show in P’cola a couple weeks ago. First .45ACP I’ve seen at a somewhat reasonable price for some time. Less than 50 cents a round. Still looking for 308 in hunting loads instead of FMJ. Can’t even find the bullets to load my own.

  11. Why, I didn’t a buy a thing! In fact, I ah, saw the light and had all of my firearms destroyed in the interests of er, public safety. Yeah, that’s the ticket…

  12. I bought some reloading supplies and one order of 44’s finally came in. I ordered the 44’s on August 27th. They said 8-12 week wait and they weren’t kidding. They showed up on the 26th.

Got some Talon grips, a trigger, reloading press lights and a Vortex scope.

Ya…that’s it. No actual rooty tooty point and shooties.

  13. I did not purchase anything.

I even passed on buying a brand-new Heritage Rough Rider single-action revolver (chambered in .22 LR) on sale at a local gun store for $115. (I already have one, or two, or …)

Looking back, I should have purchased two of the Rough Riders and given them away as gifts.

  14. Ammo. I bought ammo. A 250 round case of 12 gauge buckshot, a 250 round case of 12 gauge bird shot and 700 rounds of 7.62×39. I have in the past month bought 1000 buckshot and 500 bird shot. The buckshot was a steal at $.60 a pop for stuff that nearly goes for a dollar now.

I ran out of space in my safe. I have run out of spots in the house to put the ones that are not in the safe. I am starting to run out of room to put ammo. I am not sure if that’s a problem or not.

  15. Been thinking about a can for my AR 300 blk pistol. I just haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
Strongly considering the Trash Panda. It sucks I just can’t go buy it without all this wait forever crap.

  16. I got a pink Daisy 1999 model BB rifle to work on my plinking skills. Thankfully no background check for that bad girl!

  17. No guns this weekend, but I was watching for a couple AR pistol upper deals that haven’t happened yet. I did get some gun food. I’m not buying pallets of it, because prices may go down a bit more and I don’t want to get too far ahead at higher costs. I took advantage of a few compelling deals, topped off my 223 pile to replace the chunks that went to my brothers along with their Christmas presents.

  18. Well, I didn’t buy it and contribute to the background check total, but I put one on layaway to pick up right before Christmas… Finally got bitten by the single action bug, and it’s about time.

My LHS (local True Value hardware store) has a 1967 Ruger Old Model Single Six in .22LR, soon to be mine. No .22 Mag cylinder included, but it’s in absolutely beautiful condition (bluing is 99%+ with a bore that looks brand new!) and has had less than 100 rounds fired through it. Gonna be a fun Christmas!

  19. Black Friday?

I slept in, having had my third helping of turkey leftovers around midnight. Did not spend one dang penny that day or on the following “Cyber Monday”. Stayed well clear of the crazed shopping mobs. Did my weekly grocery buying early Sunday.

I can be tempted by a Black Friday gun sale. Last time was a PARA USA 1911 Expert in stainless. $299 at Sportsman’s Warehouse. That was I think the clearing out of the last PARA USA pistols before Remington obliterated the brand name.

A deal has to be that good for me to get up stupid early on a morning after turkey to go press into the roiling crowds. Anything less than a steal on something you have long wanted just ain’t worth the aggravation.

  20. Except for a 3-pack of MTM Case-Gard “in-safe handgun storage boxes” purchased locally for half-price I made no other purchases. Still looking for a G30S Blue Label.

  21. I lost everything firearm related in a fire…. fiery boat accident, yeah, that’s what happened. So 2 weeks ago, I bought a used stainless steel Baby Browning clone in .25 ACP. I figured I’d start small and build up the new collection.

  22. Benjamin Armada air rifle in .22 caliber.

If I do my part, I can do the 5 for 5 dime challenge (5 groups, 5 shots each from the bi-pod prone that a dime can cover) at 40yrds.
