In the wake of the Pulse night club shooting last year Orlando Democrats are proposing an “assault weapons ban” law for the state of Florida. What’s interesting about this is that it not only makes possession of the usual suspects (semi-auto magazine fed firearms) illegal, but it also makes possession of actual select fire assault weapons illegal within the state whether or not legally registered and possessed under the National Firearms Act.

The bill, SB254, appears to be a hit parade of every major AWB-related strategy ever tried. Instead of investigating each specific proposal and figuring out which one works best, the Democrats are instead demanding to implement all of them at the same time — even those that would have no impact on crime. Which, come to think of it, covers pretty much all of them.

Here’s a list of what Gunshine State Dems would ban or prohibit:

– All “select fire” firearms capable of fully automatic fire
– The possession of a combination of parts that can be used to construct a select fire firearm
Dianne Feinstein’s latest list of specific model names for firearms she finds objectionable
– Guns the meet the “single feature” test for semi-automatic “assault weapons” not listed above
– The possession of any parts that could be used on an “assault weapon,” (so a flash hider will get you a felony charge)
– Any detachable magazine with greater than a seven-round capacity

That’s just about every “assault weapon” definition method that has ever been tried in the United States all rolled up into one bill. It’s also a fine example of what we keep saying — gun control activists don’t repeal laws that have no effect on crime rates, they just add more prohibitions in the hope that the accumulation of laws will eventually be restrictive enough to work.

With definitions in place for “assault weapons” and “high capacity magazines,” the bill would impose a mandatory minimum sentence of one year in prison for anyone who has one of these prohibited items in their possession, two years in prison for anyone who tries to sell one, and six years if they try to sell (or give) one to someone under 18 years of age. But it’s all OK, because there’s an exemption for anyone who owns their evil object before October 1, 2017, registers it with the state, and has a “possession certificate.” Those with grandfathered items can keep the object (only at their home, a shooting range, or other similar locations, but NOT while hunting) but cannot transfer it except to a licensed firearms dealer.

Naturally the law would exempt law enforcement from any of its provisions.

The good news: that Robert has a better chance of spending a night of passion with an Israeli supermodel than this bill has of being passed into law. Florida is solidly in Republican control and the bill isn’t expected to ever emerge from committee. On the contrary, what’s more likely is the passage of a series of bills easing gun control restrictions in the state. When asked about the chances for his bill’s passage, the Senate sponsor, Sen. Linda Stewart, stated “We’re trying to cut back on the violence. To say, ‘in order to cut back, we’re going to have more’ — that doesn’t make sense.”

      • Annnd a plan for the person who is still snickering over his “sooo awesome” idea to put The World’s Gnarliest Toenail Fungus photos on the clickbait ads. What’s next, polaroids of the aftermath of breakfast? No high five… just stop it.

        • OMG! Yes! You mean all the malware, browser-jacking, hackers delight click-bait garbage all over the TTAG’s pages…They really need to address that to be a “Professional Pro2@ site!” I’ve received numerous anti virus warnings on my android devices. And was attacked twice. Which was a pain! They need to clean up their sites…Probably Aggressive Liberal Progressive/DNC hacker plants attempting to disrupt these kinds of sites! Let’s make these sites “safe again!”

  1. So they borrowed laws from California and the NY Safe Act as their model. I like that seven round limit–as if anyone even makes such a thing. Five rounders for everyone! So, what is the definition of “assault weapon”? More specifically, dos the bill attempt to ban all centerfire semiauto rifles? If not, does adding a flash hider to your Mini make it an “AW” under the single feature test?

    • Yes, adding a flash hider to a Mini 14 would make it an evil gun capable of much greater killing and would therefore be banned. Just like a pistol grip magically adds more powder to the cartridge and weight to the projectile making a gun more powerful… a flash hider increases rate of fire by a factor of 475 and magazine capacity by 23. Adjustable stocks and barrel shrouds are the other common “scary features”, either of them alone makes your gun capable of transforming into a Decepticon and murdering everyone within your state border.

All sarcasm aside, yes under that incredibly poorly thought out law, a flash hider would indeed make your mini 14 illegal.

  2. The definition of Democrat: Doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result.

    Stay stupid, my friends.

  3. The Dems are going for broke now and the mask hasn’t just slipped, they tore it away.

I’m actually looking at this as a good thing, They’re not even trying to fool anyone anymore with their “compromises” and mounting restrictions, they’re just going all out in hopes that maybe it’ll help them win.

  4. Don’t vote for Democrats, even those you think are probably gun supporters because they are in the minority in their party. The leadership of all state democrats have purged the conservatives and moderates from their leaders and take direction from National committees.
The Republican party isn’t perfect on guns but a lot better and responsive to our interests.

  5. It’s also a fine example of what we keep saying — gun control activists don’t repeal laws that have no effect on crime rates, they just add more prohibitions in the hope that the accumulation of laws will eventually be restrictive enough to work.

Gun control has nothing to do with crime reduction or saving lives. That’s merely the low information voter friendly packaging they use to hide the true intention.
The one and only goal of gun control is to disarm the people to prevent us from rising up against a totalitarian regime.

  6. How low would the crime rate be if we simply locked up all Democrats? It would be the most prosperous period in this country’s history.

  7. Geez, it’s like Whack A Mole with these clowns.

    I’ll sum it up:

    You can’t take them
I’m not registering a damn thing
    And Go Fu– Yourself

    Lather Rinse Repeat.

  8. Why do you bother to report these bills when there is zero chance that they will even come to a vote?

    • If it wasn’t mentioned here, would the mainstream media inform Florida’s citizens what was going on? Not likely.
If the citizens were kept ignorant, would they know a phone call to their state legislature was needed? Not likely.
Ergo: we need to be kept informed, lest crap like this slip under our radar and be brought to the floor for a vote. We don’t want a vote on it; we want it dead on arrival rather than give this bill a fighting chance.
      That’s why.

  9. The lame stream media ABCCBSNBC etc, are making a specific point of saying that the FL lege is considering relaxing gun laws in the wake of the nut case murders at Ft Lauderdale today.

  10. Oh, Florida house is in session now?

Going to have to call Monday. Any other suggestions?

    Constitutional Carry
    Remove limited places
Make creating a gun free zone carry liability
Repeal the law requiring machine guns be registered
Pass a resolution proclaiming U.S. V. Miller a rigged and invalid case.

  11. I just moved to Florida. I’m already an NRA member but I’m also looking to contribute to some state pro gun groups, particularly any of them that are pushing for open carry. Any suggestions?

  12. … and thud, the sound of the paperwork hitting the bottom of the garbage bin. Not going to happen in Florida.

  13. And that is why, despite republicans not having any stones, I keep voting for them. Because they’re not democrats. Mostly.

  14. According to US v. Miller, the Second Amendment only protects military type weapons appropriate for use in a militia. Funny how those are the ones specifically targeted by the gun control nuts.

  15. Again! ;

F—K THEM ALL !!! And the rest of the DemoNAZI , RINO tassle-loafer totalitarians !!!! 1st We need to Re-enforce the 2nd amendment…By making it a “Capital Crime” for any Politicians/ Police /Government agency, etc…From any Infringement upon any US citizens Lawful Civil Rights! With penalties of not less than $250k in compensatory damages for each incident of infringement incurred…Fines, and prison terms as well….And through the 14th amendment it can be expanded to other rights of course…Force other states such as , NJ, NY, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, California, DC.,etc…To abide by the U.S. Constitutional-Bill of Rights…[Any person in one, or goes into another…Has the same rights as any other person in any other state…] There is No such thing as Pre-crime…And Murder is a Capital Crime…It is ALREADY AGAINST THE LAW….! WHERE’S THAT 2nd Amendment Coalition ?!!
