Even in small town North Carolina, shorts are being soiled over a link on the Princeton High School’s web site. The link takes the viewer to another site for something called Project Graduation – an endeavor that isn’t school-related. It appears to be a group of parents who are raising money to put on an after-graduation party for seniors to keep them off the streets. There’s only one problem…
The organizing committee has scheduled some traditional fundraising events like a car wash, a bake sale and selling gift baskets. The problem is, they’re also raffling off a (gasp!) shotgun. And a pretty nice one, too; a Browning Maxus 12 gauge.
Here’s a link to the offending page that seems to have some people in that corner of North Carolina in a minor snit. If you have a spare shekel or two, you might consider buying a raffle ticket. You just might win a nice duck gun, you’ll help put on a fun party for the kids and – best of all – you might piss off a few hoplophobes in the Tarheel State. Pretty much a win-win-win all the way around.
It would be better if Browning raffled off a school to raise money for a shooting party.
Yeah, a 1200 dollar duck gun is the Weapon of Choice for criminals everywhere.
Project Grads do this sort of thing around the country. Many Moons ago at my project grad a car, a bike, a couple of high dollar laptops and college scholarships were raffeled off to the kids. For those who don’t know project Grad is a safe after graduation party thrown by the PTA in conjuntion with the school to keep kids from drinking and driving after graduation in an effort to reduce deaths related to after grad partying.
In the fund raising section before project grad we sold all kinds of small stuff, and I do belive a couple of heaters were raffeled off at a parent dinner.
Seems like one of those really boring towns to live in. they have to make up news stories.
High school here in my small Texas town raffles off several firearms during the homecoming game – never any complaints, except when they run out of raffle tickets.
