It’s been almost three days since the Moms Demand Action crowd had something to be outraged – OUTRAGED! – about. Fortunately, Texas is full of gun owners safely going about their business, so yesterday’s Come And Take It Texas open carry march through Austin provided just the excuse Shannon and her sisters needed to work up a Class 5 tizzy. The Moms’ reaction was, well, predictable. From their Facebook page: “THIS IS NOT NORMAL: Yesterday, the same gun activists who tried to intimidate our moms at a Dallas restaurant last year marched through the streets of Austin with guns. “The rally was held in response to a panel Moms Demand Action participated in at South By Southwest last Saturday” . . .

Shannon’s shrieking shrews let it be know they will not be intimidated.

Moms Demand Action will not allow #GunBullies to distract us from the important business of protecting our children.

Of course, the Moms were right in one respect. Seeing law abiding gun owners walking the streets in Texas with their shootin’ irons in plain view isn’t normal. At least not yet. Fortunately, both major party nominees for governor have made it clear that they support open carry, so maybe that will change in the near future.

In the mean time, the CATIT folks made sure everyone has an accurate accounting of the week’s SXSW festivities so far:

    • Depends on what the language is. If it’s something that can be turned right back and stuck in their face, I’m all for it.

As in “of course I support gun safety. I support teaching all children about firearms so they are familiar with them and they are not mysterious. I support teaching people about the four basic rules of gun safety, how to properly handle and store a gun, and all of that stuff.” … “Oh, you meant stupid restrictions against responsible gun owners? Well, no. Of course I don’t support that. That would be silly.”

  1. I’m sorry, is it me, or is just totally illogical to suggest that a march today is intended to somehow intimidate MOMs who made a presentation last Saturday? Haven’t those moms gone home yet?

    • No, you’re right. But since when has MDA been about logic? They seek to demonize gun owners, and if they make themselves look like complete idiots while attempting to do so, that’s fine with me.

    • Those hens would like to think it was about them. It’s not. I hope it doesn’t get like Jessie Jackson and every time ANYTHING goes on ANYWHERE, he’s there. It makes me want to hurl on Shannon s ugly shoes.

  2. I think the thing that delegitimizes MDA most in my mind (even more so than their outright lies and laughable overreactions to everything) is the way they insist on mentioning that they are supposedly mothers. It’s ridiculous (same with all organizations that are “Mothers against something or other”), because it’s incredibly arrogant to presume that their motherhood makes their views any more legitimate than the same coming from non-mothers.

Is motherhood an incredible thing? Absolutely. But viewed from another angle, it’s the most mundane thing humans do, and to pretend that it’s a great accomplishment that only a select few are capable of is a bad joke. There have been billions of mothers throughout human history, and trillions upon trillions of mothers of different species. Again, I’m not claiming that motherhood isn’t a wonderful thing (I have no firsthand experience, thought that was worth clarifying….), or that it isn’t difficult, or that it isn’t important. But it’s not an accomplishment of the select few, and having pushed a baby out of your vagina doesn’t make you any more or less qualified to talk about a given subject.

But it is an excellent face for the entire gun control movement. Hell, the fact that they play on emotion is right there in the name. “We stand with the grieving mothers who have lost children to evil people with guns!” without any evidence to back up their claims that gun control will reduce violence. Emotion over facts, which is a perfect summary for the entire movement.

    • It all started with those stupid “Baby on Board” signs, suction-cupped to rear windows. As if a sign provided cover for the car’s driver to engage in the most egregious of driving maneuvers, their spoiled child buckled into the back seat, and normal drivers were supposed to give them a pass for being an idiot because… baby.

It’s morphed into “mother’s” being an authority on everything from gun control to climate change. Here’s a thought – get a relevant degree, experience, and some facts before embarking on a crusade.

      • Years ago I saw a guy in traffic that had taken a plastic baby and nailed it to a section of 2×4. He hung that in the rear window of his car with a hand letterd “Baby on Board” sign.

    • But but but but but but but but but FOR THE CHILDREN FOR THE CHILDREN FOR THE CHILDREN FOR THE CHILDREN FOR THE CHILDREN FOR THE CHILDREN FOR THE CHILDREN etc.

IMO, that’s what having “mothers” as the focus of the group allows them to do. The classic “for the children” refrain. This is, of course, despite the fact that getting children familiar with firearms so they are not so damn mysterious, and teaching mothers and fathers how to properly store their firearms, would go so much further towards protecting these children.

As well as having ordinary folks who are well-trained and armed in the schools. And the malls. And the movie theaters. And …

  3. And let’s be honest, Shannon only produced 2 out of “her” 5 kids. And those 2 are out of the nest already.

  4. I’m pretty sure that everyone who was at the rally is infinitely more qualified and ready to protect their children then the MDA assholes are ever going to be.

  5. Wait, concealed carry is dishonest, but open carry is bullying… Shannon needs to make up her mind.
One would almost think she didn’t want us to carry at all…..

    • Didn’t you get the memo? Guns = evil. Concealed carry is deceitful concealed evil, open carry is bullying open evil. And don’t even try putting guns and babies together or the universe might implode…or not. /sarc

  6. Sure would like to know what her efforts to ‘protect our children’ in Aurora or Newton would entail. I tweeted her to find out but doubt I’ll get a reply.

  7. Seems to me that MDA is the best thing that ever happened to the firearms industry. Wonder if I should send them a contribution?

  8. A couple of my thoughts.

    1. I would like to know more about the Tizzy Scale. Class 5 means what? Is it published somewhere? These shrews are always in a tizzy about something. What is baseline?

    2. There are plenty of crappy mothers out there. Abusive and neglectful mothers who have been put in prison for their actions. So how does the MDA qualify themselves as subject matter experts? Just because they are moms does not mean they are good people.

    • Hi Dan! Comments like “the tizzy scale” throw me too, but I think it’s similar to the tornado scale.
I find it much easier to refer to someone as having “a knot in their knickers,” for that reason.

  9. The more MDA talks, the more my eyes roll in the back of my head. I’m glad to see people marching with their guns and showing what gun culture really is about. Which is law abiding citizens exercising their rights. GOD BLESS TEXAS!

  10. I couldn’t help but notice there appears to be actual people at the open carry event. Where as there wasn’t a single supporter (2 reporters and 1 mean dishonest gun bully don’t count as supporters) at the MDA event.

  11. So, when is someone going to print the t-shirts with Teddy Roosevelt on the front, holding a smoking elephant gun, his foot planted firmly on the carcass and a cigar in his hand, with the caption, “Guns! Bully!!”

  12. He’s easy pickens for a couple of dirtbags. With his kid on his shoulders, he won’t be able to draw his AR and confront them as they swoop in, beat him to a pulp, and take his rifle….not unless he’s willing to allow his kid to drop off his back and fall headfirst to the asphalt.

    Clown Militia

    • Hey Grumpy (apt name there, slick!) If you were to read the article it is a march with lots of armed friends around him. Safety in numbers, don’tcha know.

      • Right, and dirtbags are well known for attacking men armed with rifles.

That would be what I think the psychologists would call a thin-slicing fail.

And, Grumpy fails to account for the fact at MAYBE the dude is ALSO concealed carrying a handgun. Practicing quick-draw with kid on shoulders? Too much?

People like this crack me up…they do try so very hard, it makes you just want to pat their head.

    • There you go again, throwing a hissy fit over your child-like terror of the Insane Clown Posse’s fans being so slackerish and dirty. Do you fear guns just as much as you fear crappy rap music and drunk hippies?

  13. I don’t know about you, but hearing grown-ass women whining about bullies like a bunch of 8 year old girls on the elementary school playground is starting to drive me insane.

    • If you really want your eye to twitch, go to the main twitter page and look at the cropped photo rather than the one shown above.

She calls the OC-ers ‘gun bullies,’ but you really can’t even see the rifle unless you know what you are looking at.

I’m wondering how many of her “followers” looked at that and wondered, “What the hell is she talking about?”

  14. Right, because spree killers always carry their toddlers on their shoulders on their way to the “killing fields”. Or not. Rather, a good person and father hoisted his son up on his shoulders and went for a walk to stand up for his rights.

This demonstrates beyond any doubt that Moms Demand Action members and the like are clinically hysterical people. They have absolutely nothing to fear from that man. Hysterical people have absolutely no say in how other people exercise their rights.

    • It’s a man, a father, spending time with his child. That threatens their anti-male narrative. Add in the gun, and well….vapors.

  15. Maybe the best way to deal with Moms Demand Action is the same way you deal with an annoying drunk chick at the bar, cut them off from their nectar of life, male attention.

  16. Why the hell don’t they repair that street? That sort of road maintenance don’t fly in Virginia. It makes downtown Austin look like a third world nation…

  17. Shannon and her Gun Bully lobby are such a bunch of hypocritical a$$wipes. They all exist in an armed security bubble, all the while collecting donation $ and living high on the hog jet setting all over the country and lying to actual mothers and seducing them into giving even more money to them.

I’ll stop now so RF and the crew won’t have to DELETE FLAME on such a nice day.

  18. Moms DEMAND this and Moms DEMAND that… Yeah I get it that without a mother we wouldn’t be here, but how does squeezing 8 pounds of meat out of a vagina turn a female into someone whose DEMANDS should always be acquiesced to without independent thought or examination?

Been having a hard time wrapping my brain around that one.
