“Garrett Daniel Wyrick, 24, of Mint Hill, was arrested Sunday after two Concord police officers found a handgun in his backpack,” charlotteobserver.com reports. “He was charged with carrying a weapon onto a campus or educational property, a felony. It was not immediately clear if the gun was loaded.” Thank God! A spree killer intercepted! (Must be as the Observer used his middle name.) Well, some kind of psycho. “Police say they were checking for weapons at the event because someone had made a death threat against the church’s pastor, Steven Furtick. The threat came from ‘an unknown person,’ according to the police report.” Who . . . wasn’t Garrett Daniel Wyrick. In fact . . .
According to police, the incident took place during an Elevation Church-Concord event at Jay M. Robinson High School, which is among the satellite locations of the fast-growing church.
“In a completely unrelated incident (to the threatening call), an employee in good standing with a concealed carry permit forgot that his firearm was in the backpack he brought with him to a Saturday Volunteer event which was held in a high school,” the church said in its statement. “We are fully satisfied that there is no connection between the incident at JM Robinson High School and any threatening call received.”
Yes, well, what are the odds that the cops will drop the charges? Nil. Mr. Wyrick can kiss his gun rights goodbye. Forever.
Isn’t it time we repealed Bush the Elder’s Gun-Free School Zones Act and all the state laws that force law abiding gun owners to abandon their right to keep and bear arms at the school gates? Isn’t it time our gun laws reflected simple common sense, so that we can protect our children from those who visit evil upon them. Can I get an amen?
Amen!

So I take it the LEO at the back of the room is equipped with nothing but a hot dog launcher and a room-filling baritone.
Is it important (and confusing) to anyone else wondering why a church has a satellite location at a publicly funded high school?
I mean, yeah, sure, school on Saturdays is usually only for delinquents (or not at all), but somebody’s still gotta pay to keep the lights on and the boiler ticking over, and unless the church directly reimburses them, the Local, State, and Federal gov’ts are subsidizing that “satellite” location. My share of taxes in that is inconsequential, but as we like say about firearms: compromise is not an option on that kind of thing IMO.
Isn’t the (at least nominal, before sometimes being legislated away) separation of church and state one of the fundamental tenants of the U.S. of A.?
You turn off the boiler and the water pipes freeze.
The problem isn’t the church using the building, the problem is that there is a publicly funded school in the first place. A separation of school and state would do more to protect freedom than the separation of church and state.
First, semantics, but true. Overhead is overhead, so if someone wants to pay for the space and energy needed for that space, fine.
Second, if we decided to eliminate the relationship between school and state, we’re gonna have a lot more bored, ignorant kids running around making mischief. There’s some places in society where having a centralized tax collection/disbursement (achievable only through some form of government) makes sense – education being the first to come to mind.
In my state, anyway, parents can opt out of public school for their kids – as they should be able to; plus then they’re the only ones at fault if their kid turns out full new ‘Murican retard.
Too bad the rest of us still have to deal with the aftermath of such stupidity.

It seems half your article was just introducing them with their long-winded titles…
This was in my neck of the woods. Do you think we have the right to deal with such an intruder – if it threatens us – in an effective and definitive way?
Chief Jones, the law says “calculated to cause alarm”. There was nothing in his manner that demonstrated such intent, therefore his arrest was bogus. That people were in fact alarmed isn’t the measure, but the INTENT to cause alarm is.
What was he doing when the police showed up? Anything menacing?
What did the witnesses who complained say he was doing when they were interviewed? Anything menacing?
The mere presence of a firearm isn’t menacing under the law. Only the behavior of the person bearing that firearm is indicative of menacing, or not.
“We must always err on the side of public safety rather than regretting later, when people are dead, that we didn’t act.”
Like when we all regretted the deaths of 26 helpless people at Sandy Hook School? Because it would’ve been pretty easy to have some sort of defense there for them.
Oh, wait, no… The very people whose policies made sure no one was there to act on behalf of the innocents have created a self-serving national zeitgeist from the tragedy — more of the same is all they’re saying.
From where I stand, that doesn’t look like regret.
Who pays 430 bucks for a mossberg 500?
A leftist politician turned out to be a lying sack of shit; again, still? Weird… I would have never suspected it… [/sarcasm]
To answer your question about what other 100 year old design is still in daily use; The M2 50 cal for one. The Mauser style bolt action rifles. Lever action rifles. The revolver etc. Just because it’s old doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its place.
Reminds me of the Black Talon craze in the mid 90’s. They were the be all end all LE round, until they weren’t.
Continuing on with my rant 🙂 about 930’s I will say I had found a few problems and means to repair them. The 930 CAN be finicky even though used in a 40 degree angle I have never had a problem. I tore the weapon down completely after reloading several hundred different rounds & at about 125 I found the shotgun SO dirty it was unusual. I did notice that the fittings on certain areas of the gun were VERY close (a few 1000th of an inch-type); cleaned the gun and left it totally dry. I did this to see where I was getting rub-contact points at first but then I noticed that although at 40-45 degrees it still functioned flawlessly, I finally DID get some FTE when held in a totally horizontal position. I field stripped the gun and found some VERY interesting issues.
There is a cup tube that the bolt return spring sits in. This MUST be lubed! Polymer and steel get hot when rubbing and this results in the spring cup binding when the gun is shot horizontally. It was much to close for an auto. Lube in this area (OUTSIDE of the steel spring cup; so it slides with NO friction. Graphite typically or CLP if the tube is binding). This is mandatory. The trigger system is more complex than need be and sear/hammer unit will ride the bolt extension cut. This can be cleaned up with a micro buffer on a Dremmel or Teflon or graphite if you don’t want to touch that mechanism. The SG has no rubber ring like a Remington on the mag-piston. Instead it has an actual piston ring set. These get REALLY dirty REALLY fast. It should NOT stop the weapon from funtioning but will not do it’s job of self adjustment [to differing pressures] if not cleaned w/ Hopps at about a milliliter of CLP put over the rings (no need for more). This is not a gun for those who don’t clean them! Run a pipe cleaner through the dual gas ports and IF you have carbon there either your powder is high-sediment type or there was some lube left inside. Those must be completely dry. After this short clean up the gun ran in any position and perfectly for at least another several hundred rounds. Neglect these issues and the gun may have problems.
The guns made on or prior to 2011 were UK, York finalized and are unusually tight. I found that barrel fit to receiver was incredibly sticky; but the functional issue is that Bolt-Spring cup. That MUST be clean and lubed. In dusty desert areas or if not inspected (especially after “racing” the gun) this can shut the gun down from perfect functionality to a problem weapon. IF when the weapon is taken apart that Spring Cup sticks in any manner it is mandatory that it needs to be lubed (best with graphite) until there is NO stickiness what-so-ever in this area as that return spring is so pivotal to all functionality on the gun that even SLOWING it will give problems. This WON’T happen when the gun is pointed at an angle skyward as the Spring-Cup is set to that angle and the WEIGHT of the bolt due to gravity will eject, load, etc.
I am writing all this NOT to hype the gun.
I am writing this so people with problems can fix them. I have been shooting this gun specifically to FIND the problems as I DO believe that most all auto can have issues (Glocks can be “limp-wristed”, etc).
IF you are having problems please examine what has been noted thus far: I bet these suggestions will work. So far this SG has had over 1000 rds and I finally found some issues. Just as a background, I have been working with this stuff for a few decades & actually believe that some folks DO have trouble with the 930. I am following this to help those who do have troubles that COULD be prevented / repaired for little to no money.
aah, that bear is but a wee, tiny fellow.
most cops are good, reasonable people. but never let them into your house without a warrant. period.
there are so many laws today, that anyone might be breaking one and not even know it.
He should have just called that mayor a pussy and then slapped him in the face with a glove.
Interesting that the ATF jumped all over the AR theft – of course, if they find them, they can hustle them over the border to their friends in Old Mexico, off the books.
I live about 20 minutes from the AR Bunker. It’s a good store, they do tons of business, TONS. I hate to see them done like that . They have very knowledgeable gunsmiths and sales people and most of the smithing is done while you wait. It’s a real shame.
One thing that irks me about them is that they advertise “high capacity” mags on their website. Gets me all kinds of perturbed.
Mrs. Watts,
As a 6 year old, my dad taught me to shoot. He taught me right. To be safe. To have fun.
In high school, I carried a rifle across campus 3 times a week. Openly. With ammunition.
I never, not once, had the thought of shooting anything but paper targets. I lettered in marksmanship.
As an adult, I had a job that required me to carry a gun.
For over 25 years. I never shot anyone.
As a husband, father and friend, I have used a gun to protect my wife, my children, my friends and myself, against bad people wanting to do bad things to us. I didn’t have to shoot anyone. The mere presence of the gun prevented crime.
I will continue to own and carry a gun despite what you and your “organization” demand.
I would politely ask, no, DEMAND, that you leave me the hell alone.
Amen!
I wonder if he is afraid to drive as well because you never know if that
car or truck headed towards you in an opposite lane may have a killer or suicidal
driver at the wheel and selects your vehicle as a means to an end.
So the Yankee Marshall is for and against Open Carry. Hope the fence he’s sitting on doesn’t chafe too badly.
Ground Control to Michele….Ground Control to Michele……Turn up the oxygen levels in your capsule
Oregon doesn’t honor ANY state’s permit. We’re kinda jerks that way.
Wow, as a Coloradoan I had no idea this was in the works. Good to hear. It takes a lot of gas to drive all the way to Wyoming to get magazines.
Moreover, it may pass. Colorado has achieved a lot when it comes to opposing new restrictions; we’ve successfully booted 3 people out of office since this magazine crap passed.
The one I have in my hand when I hear glass breaking downstairs at 3 am.
Oh, I yearn for the day where more and more of the country recognizes the right to carry. That said, I’m glad that Idaho gave its residents an option so that they can carry in more places in the country.
Doing what you are supposed to do does not make you a hero. Using common sense does not make you a hero. Not doing the wrong thing does not make you a hero.
I have guns I am fond of, but none that are heirlooms. Like others here, I was raised in a house without guns. My father was raised in backwoods Pennsylvania, a place where everyone hunts, during the Depression; and since his father had become totally disabled in a switching yard accident, I have little doubt that he hunted with his cousins to put food on the table. But if he did, it is something he never ever spoke about. The only thing I remember him saying about guns at all was that he couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn with a .45 when he was in the Army (as a tank gunner, I suspect he was issued one.) He did give me a single shot Crosman .22 CO2 pistol (which was quite the surprise), but we never shot together.
Of the guns I own, a personal favorite is a .36 cal ’62 Colt pocket Navy reproduction. A beautiful piece that is light weight and feels great in the hand, even if it is not nearly as smooth cycling as my ’61 tuned Navy.
“There is estimated to be 310 million guns in this country. That is one gun for every man, woman and child in the nation, save 9 million.”
First, 9 million is not an insubstantial number. If he said, “give or take a couple.” maybe.
Second, it sounds like we need at least 9 million more guns.
