Olympic Arms, via Facebook

Following in LaRue Tactical’s footsteps, Olympic Arms has announced that police and other government entities in New York are now customers non grata in their store following the passage of new York’s firearms ban. It’s unknown exactly how much business OA does with NYS entities, but I get the feeling that it’s the sentiment that matters the most. Presser after the jump . . .

Via Facebook:

Press Release: Olympic Arms, Inc. Announces New York State Sales Policy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Olympic Arms is a staunch believer in and defender of the Constitution of the United States, and with special attention paid to the Bill of Rights that succinctly enumerates the security of our Divinely given Rights. One of those Rights is that to Keep and Bear Arms.

Legislation recently passed in the State of New York outlaws the AR15 and many other firearms, and will make it illegal for the good and free citizens of New York to own a large selection of legal and safe firearms and magazines. We feel as though the passage of this legislation exceeds the authority granted to the government of New York by its citizens, and violates the Constitution of the United States, ignoring such SCOTUS rulings as District of Columbia v. Heller – 554, U.S. 570 of 2008, McDonald v. Chicago – 561 U.S. 3025 of 2010, and specifically the case of United States v. Miller – 307 U.S. 174 of 1939.

Due the passing of this legislation, Olympic Arms would like to announce that the State of New York, any Law Enforcement Departments, Law Enforcement Officers, First Responders within the State of New York, or any New York State government entity or employee of such an entity – will no longer be served as customers.

In short, Olympic Arms will no longer be doing business with the State of New York or any governmental entity or employee of such governmental entity within the State of New York – henceforth and until such legislation is repealed, and an apology made to the good people of the State of New York and the American people.

If the leaders of the State of New York are willing to limit the right of the free and law abiding citizens of New York to arm themselves as they see fit under the Rights enumerate to all citizens of the United State through the Second Amendment, we feel as though the legislators and government entities within the State of New York should have to abide by the same restrictions.

This action has caused a division of the people into classes: Those the government deems valuable enough to protect with modern firearms, and those whose lives have been deemed as having less value, and whom the government has decided do not deserve the right to protect themselves with the same firearms. Olympic Arms will not support such behavior or policy against any citizen of this great nation.

Olympic Arms invites all firearms manufacturers, distributors and firearms dealers to join us in this action to refuse to do business with the State of New York. We must stand together, or we shall surely fall divided.

Sincerely,

Brian Schuetz President Olympic Arms, Inc.

    • Not really since all of them only go halfway and refuse to stop selling to the Feds. Wouldn’t want to do something that would actually hurt the income stream now, would we?

      • some people are never satisfied are they? Major damage to the 2A via the Feds is a political career killer and no DC politician has the balls to back it to the end.

The greatest threat to your 2A rights comes from state and local governments. They will tax you, prohibit you, demand insurance, place more limits on what you can buy, how much and how often. It’s already begun.

The good side is these cash strapped state and local governments are the ideal target for this kind of action. Having to pay full retail or even not being able to purchase at all is probably going to cause an uproar in the LEO ranks.

The funny thing is it’s not like most departments are not already well stocked with ARs and similar weapons already. No one is going to die because vendors made additional weapons unavailable, but you can bet the LEO community will be claiming blood in the streets.

Where’s my popcorn? Oh and well done Olympic Arms!

  1. “This action has caused a division of the people into classes: Those the government deems valuable enough to protect with modern firearms, and those whose lives have been deemed as having less value…”

    This is awesome!

    Thanks Olympic Arms!

  2. Good for LaRue and Olympic. And to show my support in a tangible way, I’m boycotting New York also, which is going to put a serious hurt on several midtown gin mills.

  3. The first couple companies that do this are all about sentiment, but hopefully enough jump on board that it has real effect, whether that be a tangible effect, or just helps shift public opinion.

  4. Awesome!

Out of curiosity what kind of quality is OA’s products? I’ve heard of them but dont really know anything beyond the name

    • They’re pretty good for lower cost ARs. I would take one before a DPMS or a bushy.

If I can ever get the funds for another AR, an Olympic may be on the list.

      • Unfortunately, Bushmaster is owned by Remington and made in the same plant in Ilion, NY. The former Bushmaster plant in Windham, Maine, is now a separate company named after the town.

On another front, CO is proposing a law to ban the manufacture of magazines over 10 rounds, which will put Magpul of Boulder, CO in a bind when they have to relocate if it passes.

Firearms makers in Connecticut aren’t facing these problems as they have already stated they will shut down and move if threatened.

They’d all be better off centrally located on a major truck and UPS route anyway, if Amazon can move to Independence, KS, why feed the trolls at home?

        • States need to pass laws that prohibit companies from anti-2nd amend to sell their product. That would put the hurt on the state

        • Sounds like are Demos in Colorado are passing the 15 round mag limit( Informal vote down, it passed, will be formalized monday). Magpul threatened to leave earlier this week. The State Congress wrote a special loop hole so they can stay. But Magpul is stating it does not matter, they are still leaving. I live here but I say good for them, they should leave and take there 46 million a year business to a state that protect it’s citizens rights.

    • Jesus H would you people please give it up against Ruger? They’ve been selling standard cap mags for Mini’s for a dog’s age, they make AR’s that all ship with PMags and they beat S&W to the punch providing possibly the easiest way ever to contact all your representatives about the new federal anti-gun laws.

Ruger and S&W took the beatings they deserved for the decisions they made many, many years ago but times are totally different now and I truly do not understand what the hell some guys are hanging onto anymore. Seriously, tell me what in the world would you have Ruger do to make things good in your mind?

  5. I bought an Olympic arms ar-15 over 10 years ago. Still going strong. The quality is about the same as bush master. Nothing super fancy. Just a good gun that works for 800 plus dollars. Well probably more in this environment. Well done OA. I hope others do that same. That would be awesome.

    • “Unintended Consequences” is coincidentally the title of a John Ross novel published in 1995. It is out of print now. It deals with gun grabbers screwing the rights of good honest citizens. A PDF is on the web you can down load and read to make a book report for your fellow gun ownres.

    • I’ll be mentioning this to R Lee Ermy and the Glock reps at ProForce this weekend. I do want a 19 or 23 with standard cap mags, but freedom to me is more important.

      • If enough of us speak to the manufacturers we can get them to shut this down. But most of us are fiends for everything that goes bang at the moment and would not turn down a firearm sale right now in this market if we were looking for something. We shall see.

        Also

Go with a 23. Overall, unless you have a 9mm preference or issues with .40 recoil, the 23 offers the caliber change to plink with 9mm or .22 but offers more per shot…moderately. Since you’ve got other .40 Glock equipment it would be a wise addition to the stable.

When you asked this on the other post my phone REFUSED to let me respond.

        • That’s where I’m leaning at this point. I do want a 9mm, but I’m not particularly recoil-sensitive. Perhaps a 23 this year and a 19 next year. Hopefully they still 23s in stock.

I’m aware that I could get a Lone Wolf 9mm or .357 Sig barrel if I get the. 23, which is helping as well. I may pick up some Underwood Ammo, which looks darn good and Smokin’ hot.

        • Accur81,

I’ve read articles and seen some youtube chrono vids and Underwood seems to be no joke. I’ve two boxes of Underwood’s 10mm 135 gr. HP’s @ 1,600 fps being delivered tomorrow.

      • We need Mr. Ermy in front of Congress.

On the set of Full Metal Jacket he left the most tyrannical director in the history of film wondering what the heck was going on.

  6. Can we count on Olympic to extend their policy as an admonition to the state of Califonia? Other states considering such inane legislation?

  7. I shot off an email to NSSF about this very subject yesterday. If all manufacturers and retailers would stand united, it would send a very clear message to NY and CA, and whichever state decides to enact such nonsense laws.

  8. Wouldn’t it be incredible if all the manufacturers followed suit. Not likely, but actions like this are what will add to the fight against those who seek to deny rights to the people. Like LaRue and Olympic, and I believe it was Barret who would not sell to California LEO agencies, these manufacturers are true supporters of the 2nd Amendment. Keep it up. As always, I will vote with my wallet as much as I can in support of these companies. It’s good feeling.

  9. Nick, they’re not simply following LaRue’s lead — they’re going one step further.

LaRue limited all buyers (regardless of special-class status, e.g. LEOs) to what was legal for civilians in their jurisdiction.

Olympic is telling NYS that they get nothing at all until the bills are repealed. That’s a significant step forward.

  10. The NY disease is trying to metastasize. Bloomberg’s MAIG group has hired a well-connected lobbyist and is doing a big media buy here in Colorado while the legislature is debating an AWB, normal capacity mag ban, manufacturer liability, and other nonsensical bills.

Lovely. Effing lovely. They’ve screwed up the Empire state, and they want to export it.

  11. Some people say “Oh well, just go somewhere else.” What’s cool is that even if NY goes somewhere else, it’s worth it for the respect and business OA and LaRue are getting and will continue to get for defending the 2nd Amendment! Anyone else that serves NY, is scum.

You have my respect!!! Thank you for defending my rights!!

  12. If Glock, SIG, Remmy and Colt followed suit, it would mean something. But they won’t. Two are foreign, and all four are all s^cking greedily on that big, fat government teat.

  13. Like LaRue, Olympic Arms has called and raised the antis.
I’d be nice if more companies will follow. It might not be a
bad idea to twist a few arms with our dollars. Simply email
S&W, Winchester, Kimber etc… they can choose to
denounce the insanity of New York’s gun laws or not and
we can choose to support only those who do. The very
large manufacturers know full well what happened to
Cheaper Than Dirt. They know that fence straddling or
caving could prove to be a huge commercial failure.

  14. OA is one of the best AR-15 makers. No NY Gestapo get there weapons now love it. This is what we need to do to states and governments who attack our rights is attack there pets in uniforms way to go OA!!!!

  15. Let’s create a TTAG Medal Of Patriotic Intent so that these Brave Corporations can be honored for their stance against Soviet Opression!

  16. People! Write other Gun companies to Join the Effort! To all States that have Strict Gun Laws! Email them and Tell them of your Frustration and Put Pressure on them to Restrict the sales of Guns and Ammunition to Gov’t entities!

  17. TTAG Should Start a campaign to Get the Gun companies to Support the People rather than Gov’t’s! Call and Email the Companies, your state Representatives and Congressmen!

  18. I appreciate the policy, but ultimately I don’t think it will have any impact. If the NY government wants to buy something, they will simply go through a 3rd party distributor. If firearms manufactures want to limit their products, then they need to have their customers (distributors & dealers) under contract not to distribute to NY.

    • It might have to wait until contract renewal time, but it is entirely possible that they will do it. Might be worth getting in touch with them and asking, without that this would be a strictly symbolic gesture.

  19. god bless this company it show you that god men can do good . hope that outher companys do the same like dpms colt all firearm company stand up to gov and state the dont care, about the bill of rights

  20. There is another way to force S&W and Strum River to follow suit. They’re publicly traded companies. Today I bought 1000 and 200 shares, respectively. If we all did the same and show up at the next shareholder meeting, our will becomes their business plan. Vote with you wallet friends!

  21. Ban all civilian sales and see if LaRue and Olympic reconsider LEO sales.

Somehow, I think that NY LEOs will have noooooo problems getting what they want.

    • I’m sure they wouldn’t use a strawman purchase, though, right?
      That would be … illegal.
But it’s probably OK if the po-po do it.
Different set of rules for them and all.

  22. With LaRue and now Olympic Arms, my savings account is going to suffer after all this blows over in my effort to support their loyalties. 😀

  23. You guys keep standing against tyranny, I and others will buy from your business, And WE together will keep defending America and its people against all enemies, foreign, and politicians.
    Semper Fi 0300
    Oath Keeper

  24. Way to go Olympic Arms!!! I really liked how they expressed that NY’s government has divided people into classes worthy of having protection and the (the masses of citizens) unworthy. They are right; “We must stand together, or we shall surely fall divided”.

  25. This does help to bring attention and put pressure on the Anti-gunners and if every firearm manufacturer would do it that would be great, but I think what would put most pressure on them is if ammo manufacturers refused to sell the NYPD and govt ammunition. Just food for thought.

  26. It is unlikely that the larger domestic firearms manufactures would be able to boycott government agencies without affecting their profit margin and subsequent NRA donations. Other companies would fill the void and pick up those government contracts.

  27. Thats what all AR manufacturers should do in response to NY stupid gun laws. I wonder if they realize that they screwed up 3 guns for the state. Bet that brought a good little chunk of change into the state.

  28. Any law enforcement officer who is for the AWB or actually goes out of the way to make it happen is a traitorous pig and must be destroyed. Saying we cant have a semiauto rifle and regular mags in our pistols which they themselves use for defense means they are dirty, filthy pigs and I hope bad things happen to them.
The hypocricy is to evil and dangerous for civilians to tolerate.

  29. Starting a savings account now so the first thing I do after leaving cali is pick up both LaRue tactical and Olympic arms products. (I’m hoping they’ll stop selling to the state of CA if they haven’t already since the laws here are insane).

  30. While welcome, I think it’s main effect will be symbolic at best. Don’t forget, ultimately the manufacturers must get “permission” from the state to exist and they must adhere to the state regularization boundaries of operation. The government has the whip hand and unless we get a lot of support from reps at all levels of governance we will lose, incrementally, but we will lose. EOs are the bypass of the three branch checks and balances required to keep political actions within the confines of controllable chaos. Toss in 2 or so appointments to the SCOTUS and the plot thickens. UN treaties could, at some point, become involved. I’m not giving up, but our work is more than cut out for us.

  31. As much as I appreciate the support by manufacturers like LaRue and OlyArms, I don’t get the impression that police departments are going to feel particularly deprived. How many departments are really issuing LaRue and Olympic rifles?

I think you’d have to get a manufacturer like S&W onboard before they’d care, since the M&P15 line seems to be a popular police-issue patrol rifle.

    • For all His powers, or not, don’t think God had invented firearms at the time. Pretty sure there was no commandment, “Thou Shalt Not Ban Firearms”. Would not go so far to call anybody stupid over it tho. (I could be wrong, one day someone might find an ancient Uzi in a cave somewhere). Our luck, some politician will point out there is no “Divine Right” to keep and bear arms, the right was given by politicians, and we can take it away, so there. Hope Ms Frankenstein don’t read this.

  32. Perhaps not the big names, but, hopefully an avalanche of more to follow. It is true, in my opinion, individual states, such as New York, are more likely to ignore The Constitution, but, if NY, and others, get away with it, The Federal Government will feel justified in Universal Bans. As it is right now, The Government is probing the lines. Rather than enforce current laws, they feel the need to make more laws, people that stay put and obey, are easier to make criminals out of, than those that are breaking the law, no matter what. I think we all understand nobody is talking about the right of individuals to own anti tank weapons, .50 cal machine guns, WMDs, etc. for home/personal defense. (And, yes, I know there are some weapons not available to the general public, unless they pay the mandatory bribe to the officials).

  33. Now all that needs to happen is for the ammo manufacturers to do the same. Even if they manage to purchase the weapons that they want, they won’t have the ammo to fire them.

  34. The AR-15′ market is on a heater right now. I’m almost certain that Olympic Arms has so many backorders they wouldn’t be able to fulfill an order from NY anyways. Might as well get some some mileage out the situation

  35. I applaud Olympic Arms, but, this has to be just the beginning. Everyone who believes in the Constitution needs to boycott States like New York. Don’t go there, don’t do business with them, and if you live there and are able to, move. This is not just about guns, it is about whether the Constitution survives and we survive as a free people. Let’s do it folks, we have the power to bring every damned one of these liberal/progressive/Marxists to their knees.

  36. GREAT JOB LaRue and Olympic. THANK YOU And to show my support I’m boycotting New York also,I DO ALOT OF TRAVEL AND SPEND LOTS OF MONEY !!! I’M CANCELING ALL TRAVEL THIS YEAR AND FUTURE DATES UNTIL NEW YORK GETS THERE ACT TOGETHER, I HAD PLANNED ON GOING TO THE STATUE OF LIBERTY BUT NOW FEEL THEY SHOULD RELOCATE IT TO A MORE PEOPLE FRIENDLY PLACE, ABOUT TIME PEOPLE STAND UP TO N.Y. GUN LAWS …ITS NEVER SEEMED FAIR TO ME THAT ONLY RESIDENCE CAN HAVE GUNS,THEY CAN CARRY GUNS TO YOUR STATE BUT YOU CAN’T TO THERE STATE !

  37. thank you for being men and women for the people of your country. if others dont follow suit they should fall to the courts rulings then they will be their to be blamed by America for more unemployed citizens not the illegal border jumpers. its a company like yours that keeps us strong and the enemy and gangs weak. if Smith & Wesson Barret colt Beretta and other companies in the USA cant follow your lead then they failed the people. keep the USA strong but smart not dumb and blind.

  38. BRAVO!!! I really hope others follow your lead with this. Law abiding citizens can’t get them…then not nobody can. I hope there response is “woops”
