The following editorial appears at oathkeepers.org:

This shooting is yet another tragic example of the failed, grotesque insistence on helpless victim zones where any crazed gunman can be assured of a large number of disarmed, undefended, helpless victims, all crammed into one place, where he can kill many children before an armed defender arrives from elsewhere. It is disturbing and sick that the federal government so hates the right of the American people to bear arms, and so hates their natural right to self defense, that the government insists on making them helpless, disarmed victims for anyone who cares to kill them. And in this case, all of the teachers and staff were willfully disarmed by the Federal Government, by force of law and threat of prison, to ensure that they would be disarmed and incapable of saving the lives of the children entrusted to their care . . .

That makes the Federal Government complicit in the deaths of these children, and in fact an accessory to their mass murder, by forcibly disarming (with the very real threat of prison) all the teachers, all the staff, and any parent who may have been on school property. That stupid law [ED: the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990] guaranteed the shooters would meet no immediate armed resistance, which is exactly what is needed to stop such an attack.

In such a shooting (as in every criminal attack), seconds count, and the people best positioned to stop the attack are the people on the scene – the intended victims and/or their care-takers. In this case, that would mean the teachers and staff of the school who were responsible for the well-being of those children, and also the parents, who should have the ability to save the lives of their own children as they take them to and from school.

The police cannot, and do not arrive in time to stop such shooters from killing large numbers of people. They are a slow reactive force compared to an armed citizen on the scene.  This should be common sense, as it is obvious that in the immediacy of a criminal attack, it is the intended victims (or their immediate care-takers) who are there, in position to put a stop to the attack, if they are capable. And being capable means being armed, trained, willing, and able to use deadly force, right then, right there. Anything less leads to what we saw here.

But no doubt the rabid anti-gun government supremacists will use this to further their agenda to disarm the American people, totally ignoring that obvious, plain-as-day truth.  Anti-gun nuts trust the government with guns, but not the people, and insist that the lowly citizen must be disarmed and helpless in the face of murderous assault, and must wait on slow responding armed government employees, who will not be there when the attack starts, and most often can only really clean up the horrendous crime scene afterwards and maybe, just maybe apprehend a shooter who has chosen not to kill himself (as they usually do).

The bottom line is that these teachers and staff at the Sandy Hook Elementary School were incapable of keeping these children safe, and incapable of defending them.  And one of the biggest reasons they were so incapable and unprepared to save the lives of the children entrusted to their care is because the anti-gun nuts and their fellow travelers in government insisted on disarming every adult in the vicinity, by threatening them with prison time – EXCEPT the gunmen, who don’t care about the law and thus were not disarmed. Laws against carrying weapons in schools don’t stop evil men with murderous intent.  Such laws only disarm the law abiding and virtuous, who are now rendered incompetent to defend the precious children in their care.

This is disgusting. And yet another reason to home-school. Why would you want to leave your children helpless, in the hands of adults who are  themselves helpless, and incapable of defending them, by government decree? For all we know, one of the teachers may have been a veteran, with the training and skill to use a firearm if one had been available.  But all the teachers and staff, whatever their ability with firearms, were stripped of the choice and chance to save the lives of these kids.

There are more good guys than bad guys in the world. But the good guys need to be able to stop the bad guys, and that means they need to be armed so they can stop the bad guys on the spot, without having to wait for “official” government approved good guys to respond. Trust the teachers with arms so they can save the lives of their students.

Until the adults are allowed to actually act like adults, and defend themselves and their students, this kind of willful killing will continue to happen, and the federal government will in each case be a guilty party to the conspiracy by ensuring that the targets are disarmed.

Until this changes, you should refuse to give your children over to government schools lorded over by a Federal Government so callous and indifferent to their safety and lives.

  1. I was home schooled. Not only was I completely safe from nut jobs like the one who did this, but I home carried (and still do, not yet 21) every day. I carry a firearm more than either of my CCW holding parents and I can’t even leave the house with it on.

Suck it Feds, you and your bureaucratic, failing, dangerous, and laughably ineffective public school system…

    • Did my comment edit not work?

well, what I meant to add was that the failed federal school system had no chance indoctrinate me with a sense of entitlement and a false sense of security. And that these comments were not meant to take away from the seriousness of what happened yesterday.

    • Far too many home-schooled children are done so for the express purpose of indoctrination, usually religious, and the attempt to reduce exposure to diverse ideas.

Not saying you were, but my wife was provided a “catholic” education which was criminally inept- bordering on abusive misinformation, that’s left me with a bad taste for the idea of home “schooling”.

      • Well, I am a Christian and was saved at around the same time as my parents when I was 9 or 10. However, being a home schooled Christian does not take away from being home schooled. I can argue effectively against most other major religions (including atheism),but my schooling was almost entirely about math, reading, and writing.

The biggest point here is that no matter what you want to teach (read: freedom) you will not probably get that in the public school system. And I say this as humbly as possible: in comparison with the average public school child (in the 50th percentile) I scored (as well as most other home schoolers) in the 96th-98th percentile. So there is good evidence to support the idea that homeschooling is better educationally, never mind with better security. Something to note: I was in public school for a couple years until I (not my parents) decided to go back to homeschooling in the middle of 5th grade.

I know this is a little long, but I do hope others will look into the homeschooling method as it is proven that done correctly it will produce an independent, free critical thinking, motivated, successful student. And I feel sorry that your experiences were not the same, Jason.

Also, if you are an atheist, it might be helpful to note that the original reason for the public school system was to indoctrinate children with a statist religious world view.

      • Sorry but in the US, the HS’ed students are the smartest kids you all have now. If by “indoctrinated” you mean ACTUALLY EDUCATED, then fine. Otherwise, I would check your facts and your prejudices before mouthing off about homeschooling.

        • No I mean being told in the history books that Cortez saved the “savage” Aztecs or that the Crusades were defensive. And don’t even get me started on the lack of modern biology these kids are “taught”.

This is just my experience with one program. Some homeschooling is great, though it often produces children woefully incapable of functioning in a diverse society or get higher education degrees.

        • i was home schooled and later was enrolled in a private school.

i thank whatever it was that created me that my parents made that decision.

especially when i read “the dumbing down of america”.

the public education system is a miserable failure and further bolsters the fact that governments purpose in our lives needs to be seriously reevaluated.

        • Jason, you are the primary argument for why public education fails. Let me correct some of your “facts”,

          1) Cortez may not have “saved” the Aztecs, but he could not have overthrown them without the help of native tribes who had decide having their children sacrificed to the Sun God was not sound policy, and

          2) The Crusades were a response to the occupation of Spain by the Moors, aka the Muslims. We won’t even get into how the Muslims still want to subjugate all humanity into one religion. The Catholic Church gave that up a couple of hundred years ago.

          3) I have no idea what you mean by “biology”, but given your ignorance of history, I’m sure you missed a few chapters of that textbook, too.

        • DJ, I don’t see any need for ad hominems.

          1) Nothing you said to this point contradicts my point that defending genocide in a history book is morally reprehensible.

          2) That’s just silly. The Reqonquista specifically was about retaking Spain. The Crusades (not all of which were against Muslims, you know) were about recapturing a holy land and quelling other religions (like other forms of christianity and paganism in eastern Europe). Actually the first Crusade began when the Roman empire (Byzantium) requested help against the Muslims.

We can argue over this at length, but the point is that the viewpoint basically justified genocide and massacre at the hands of the Catholics and demonized others. That is the last thing we need to be teaching our children, more hatred and senseless division.

          3) By Biology, I mean basic evolutionary theory. You know, one of the best supported theories in all of science. And by science I mean not teaching young earth creationism.

        • @ Jason (with the monkey avatar, hm, fitting…) Evolution is one of the most unproven AND disprovable HYPOTHESES of life. I capitalized HYPOTHESES because using the scientific method that is as far as one can take it. It cannot be proven to any extent only theorized about (though not quite a theory…). Now, given all that, one cannot prove God. But, I find it much easier to believe that one omniscient being created the universe (and then instilled life into it) aka something from something, than to believe it happened by chance and life formed itself aka something from nothing which violates the laws of the universe itself.

I do believe in MICRO-evolution (intRA species), but MACRO-evolution (intER species) is an ideological canoe that I have just bumpfired a 75 round mag of 7.62×39 into and is now sinking (^gun talk!). All of this adds up to an small children being indoctrinated with flat out falsities and an educational system built on the “facts” from an unproven fantasy dreamt by primate lovers.

Evolution is like a word inappropriate for TTAG . It’s all right if you have one but don’t expect me to be happy if you shove it in small children’s faces.

          boom.

Also, to the editors of TTAG: I freaking love guns, so please forgive me for these comments not about said firearms.

        • Reconquista = Reconquest.

You don’t have to reconquer what wasn’t occupied. Apparently, your ignorance of history is eclipsed by your ignorance of Spanish.

Let me break it down to you in terms your grade school education will understand, “they hit us first”.

We won’t get into your opinions regarding the physical sciences.

        • Max,
Therein lies the problem. You don’t even understand evolutionary theory. This is illustrated perfectly by this:

“I do believe in MICRO-evolution (intRA species), but MACRO-evolution (intER species)”

“micro” evolution (which is a fictitious term made up by creationists) is the process by which “macro” evolution happens. Saying you believe in one but not the other is like saying you believe that people can walk feet, but not miles.

It is, also, a more complete and better understood phenomenon than gravity, but people like to pretend that it is not.

          DJ,

First, I have a graduate level education so enough with the name calling. Second, since when does “Muslims hit someone halfway across Europe” justify the attack on pagans in Lithuania? Or even Muslims on the other side of the sea? Or sacking Byzantium, a christian country that asked for your help?

Just a sad Eurocentric view of history.

Lol, my “opinions” on the physical sciences, as in you know, the “opinions” of actual scientists, not a ancient book?

      • I’ll decide the diversity of ideas my 5 year old is indoctrinated with, thank you. As a parent, it’s my responsibility, not the Dept of Ed’s.

        • WLCE- In America? That’s news to me. Evolution is mandatory in all classrooms last I heard. Some require “intelligent” design to be taught along side it, but I’ve never heard of it being omitted. Which state, if you don’t mind me asking?

I think I’ve come across too negative on homeschooling. If I lived in a city and it was a choice between homeschool or inner city public schools, the choice would be obvious. Or, on the other hand, if I lived in a school district 3 years behind better ones. What I meant to criticize are the homeschoolers who segregate their children either to be able to avoid teaching things like biology etc, or to avoid contact with the plurality of backgrounds and values in our society.

        • “WLCE- In America? That’s news to me. Evolution is mandatory in all classrooms last I heard. Some require “intelligent” design to be taught along side it,”

and that was stupid on my part using “creationism”. I meant ID. Ill take responsibility for that.

Rick Perry said schools teach creationism but this is false.

        • As I stated, with the “textbooks” my Wife’s brothers and sisters use as educational material. Also, I have tutored several homeschool students in preparation for college entrance exams.

Also, I have said multiple times that I am not portraying ALL homeschoolers in this way but that there is a large portion who do so in order to avoid teaching children modern science, or who wish to avoid contact with other viewpoints and value systems.

If you are taking a child out of a poor schooling system to give them a better or more personalized education system, then all the more power to you (though I still think there are drawbacks). If you are taking them out to keep your child from hearing that the world isn’t 6000 years old, that’s another story.

        • DJ, I am not trolling. I just do not support stunting children’s futures by providing faulty educations. That is not all homeschooling and I am against many of the woeful public schools as well. The point was to criticize a specific subset of homeschooling which does so in order to fuel hatred, bigotry and misinformation in children. If you were trying to read my posts, rather than throw insults, you would see that.

        • “The point was to criticize a specific subset of homeschooling which does so in order to fuel hatred, bigotry and misinformation in children. ”

thats a valid point jason. I have to agree with you.

        • And I must apologize for coming across as talking about all homeschooling. I should have been clearer and more careful while writing.

      • Do you have any stats to back up your claim of “too many”? Because the literature about homeschooling shows homeschoolers doing far better than public and private school students, including science.

I do not know how to post links with my phone or I would show you some links. I apologize for that.

I will also say this: your argument of homeschooling being “abusive” is illogical. You have of ONE person you think was fed “abusive misinformation” then you apply to millions of homeschoolers experience. The logical fallacy you made is called the Hasty Generalization Logic Fallacy.

  2. Some reporters are such friggin vultures. The father learned of the shooting, death of his ex-wife and his son the shooter directly by a reporter in his driveway.

“Hours after the shooting Friday, a reporter with the Stamford Advocate found Peter Lanza as he pulled his blue Mini Cooper into his driveway in Stamford, Connecticut.

Peter Lanza was apparently unaware that his son was behind the school massacre and his ex-wife had been killed, the newspaper reported.

Peter Lanza told the reporter, “Is there something I can do for you?” and then declined to comment upon being told of his family’s involvement in the shooting, the newspaper reported.”

  3. Disarm the masses.

Medicate them with psych medication, make them dependent upon government entitlements. Remove their self esteem, their jobs, their retirements, their savings and their equity in their homes.

Gather their children to locations where government regulations prohibit guns.

Slaughter them and then blame gun owners.

Let no tragedy go to waste.

Stand on those coffins and pursue your political agenda.

Pretend to humbly accept the accolades of the liberal masses that yell “give us security in exchange for our liberty” and secretly smile.

His plan is succeeding exceptionally well.

  4. I TOTALY agree with this article. It is time for EVERY American to clog the court system with this stupid law. Make it so unweilding that the courts cannot even begin to handle this b.s. It is time for US, the law abidding to make the government fall to there knees. One person cannot do it! It must be done by the millions of firearms owners in this nation.

We must show the government that we no longer fear them, and we are ready, willing, and able to take them on. Before they can enact any more anti-laws, we must now go on the offensive and start protecting our schools. We must let every commie educator know that we will no longer stand by, and allow some miscreant to do this again.

If we have to start school militias, with armed personel to protect the children of this nation, by God it high time we do so. The cops can’t, and the commies want this to happen, in order that we become a disarmed society. When I say commie, make that read politician, of the lowest order.

Whether it is local, state, or federal, they are all cupable of allowing this to happen!
And as long as we stand by and do nothing to protect our students, we are just as guilty as are they. I do not have children in school, but I do have grand-children that are school age. I want them protected, and I want to ensure that they can go to class, free of fear. Free to be able to learn, and NOT worry that some scum bag is going to kill them. Mark my words, this is going to happen again. There is a dirt bag politician out there waiting for this to blow over, so that they can send another feeble minded murder out to kill the children.

  5. I’ve heard and read a lot in the last 2 days about hardening the target at school. Armed teachers, school militias, etc. If schools were made into hard targets then there would probably be fewer mass shootings at schools, but there would be exactly the same number of homicidal maniacs out there, wouldn’t there? Doesn’t it stand to reason that if schools were hardened then the homicidal maniacs would just pick a different venue for their mass shootings? Then what? Harden the shopping malls? The public playground? The dog park? The county fair? How many things do we harden before our cities and towns look and feel like the inside of a correctional facility? Does anyone have any ideas on how to reduce the number of homicidal maniacs BEFORE they go around killing dozens of people?

    • I would say that these BS GFZ’s should be eliminated or they should have gates, metal detectors and armed guards at the doors. Last time I checked, people don’t want public places to look like prisons so just kill off the GFZ garbage and be done with it.

Up here in GitmoNation GreatWhiteNorth, we have a slightly odd twist on the situation. Technically, the whole country is GFZ and also NOT GFZ. It is this way because we do technically have CCW but it is super SUPER hard to get but it does mean that you can never know where a CCW is. Further to that, all you need to be allowed to have a rifle in the car up here is a varmint license and that the caliber is not higher than what is allowed for varminting in your province according to the DNR knobs. (Transport of the rifle would still need to conform to laws such as “hiding” it or having it in your trunk.)

So… In Canada, you could be surrounded by guns and never have a clue. Hand guns via CCW being a stretch where there are so so few ATCs issued since 1995 but rifles are very likely all over the place at any given time and especially during big game season.

  6. the federal government has a lot to answer for…not just for “gun free zones”.

one can only dream of the day the perpetrators of american imperialism spend the rest of their retched lives in a small cell in a supermax prison.

  7. This article is so so so on the money.

Almost every single mass shooting in American history is in a so called GFZ. There will sadly, be no reporting on this and little lip-service to this issue even by the GOP.

At this point I really fear you guys could end up with worse gun laws than us up here in Canada.

  8. Actually, the Federal government was not to blame. Under the so-called Gun Free School Zones Act, one cannot have a gun on or near school grounds, but there is an exception “(ii) if the individual possessing the firearm is licensed to do so by the State in which the school zone is located or a political subdivision of the State, and the law of the State or political subdivision requires that, before an individual obtains such a license, the law enforcement authorities of the State or political subdivision verify that the individual is qualified under law to receive the license;”

A Connecticut CCW holder would qualify for the exemption. However, Connecticut state law prohibits carry on school grounds. When the state law was originally passed in 1992, there was an exception for the lawful possession of a firearm by a person holding a valid state or local permit. However, that exception was eliminated in 1998.

So congratulations, Nutmeg State. You sold out. Maybe because of that, children died. But I’m sure you all feel safer now.

  9. I say let the government go ahead and try banning guns. We can then proceed to conpletely ignore them. Suddenly the government becomes toothless. They certainly don’t want that. They know most people won’t turn in their guns. I know I wouldn’t. I’m guess most of you wouldn’t either.

  10. don’t forget to blame the midget Bloomberg. this is all his fault. gun control is racist and illogical. so now I can state he is a racist, a control freak, and has blood on his hands. . . . . .

  11. Old news…

Oboma had been an acsesory to murder at least since Benghazi.

The whole argument that they didnt take the threats seriously because it was posted on facebook, just tickles me. Any school age child doing the same thing would have police at their door imediatley and the school would either be closed or locked down pending investigation.

Oboma is a murder! Impeach him!

    • Please forgive the spelling errors. I do this entirley from my phone, between calls at work. I dont own a computer and for whatever reason even the mobile version of this site is very unfreindly with my phone. It is hard for me to rant and make it seem rational. Even with the few minutes window, I dont always pick up on my errors.

  12. My first thought upon reading this was that it was kinda harsh, but my second thought was that sometimes someone needs to say what needs to be said, even at the risk of being labeled an extremist. In real life, I’m often that guy, the guy who raises his hand and says what other people are thinking when they don’t. In the parlance of journalism, I’m usually “not afraid to ask the hard questions.” For that reason, it’s kinda funny to me that it took me so long to recognize that in this post.

  13. The CT and Federal government also shares some culpability as CT approved the AR15 owned by the shooter’s mother under their ’93 Assault Weapons ban and the Federal laws prevented him from buying one legally so he killed her to steal it.
