Maybe the most widely known of the out-of-towners recently snagged by NYC’s web of anti-gun laws, Meredith Graves took a misdemeanor plea deal this morning, paid a $200 fine and, do doubt, got the hell out of Dodge. Almost no one who purports to be in charge in the Big Apple wanted to see Graves, a nursing student from Tennessee, do any time. As we pointed out earlier, making a sympathetic example of her would only have provided a never-ending supply of ammo to HR 822 proponents and made it that much harder for New York to keep its crazily restrictive gun laws in place. And Mayor Mike just can’t have that.

  1. What about the others, the men arrested from out of state for carrying a gun in NYC with a permit issued by their home state that we read about? Have their cases been dismissed too or is NYC going to make an example out of them?????

        • All of those cases were equally bad for Hizzonor’s anti-gun agenda. Aharon’s version of things would have him sacrificing that just so he could discriminate in favor of a woman and stick it to some guys. For some unknown reason. Or something.

        • Carlos,

Your version of history, current events, facts, and statistics has been conditioned too much by the US school system, the mass media, and other American cultural institutions.

      • No man, I haven’t been following. What you call paranoia is some ignorance on your part my friend. Males (of all ages) are as a matter of routine, sentenced to harsher criminal sentences and more frequent prosecution than females based simply on our sex for the same or similar criminal offenses. It is not fair, just, constitutional, and heck it just plain stinks in what is supposed to be some modern age of so-called equality.

        • Which do you think Bloomberg cares more about: feminism or gun control? If you think he’d prosecute those other cases after letting her go just to stick it to men or something, then you have to be willing to believe that he’d be willing to let the latter take a giant, maybe lethal, hit for the former.

I personally don’t believe that to be the case. He’s going to make all these cases go away because they’re all ammunition for HR 822, which is his worst nightmare.

        • The day they pass that, and my lawyer confirms it’s kosher, I’m heading to West Side Rifle and Pistol Range . . . it’ll be my first You Tube Video!

Joe Doakes Hits The Range In NYC! It’ll be like the end of prohibition.

          🙂

  2. This is yet another reason why the gradual growth of what constitutes a “prohibited person” is so insidious. The authorities in a place like New York are wrong for having such anti-constitutional laws on the books, but they also have the power to deny someone their RKBA for life with the stroke of a pen.So long as that’s in place, don’t count on anyone challenging the status quo.Not that I blame folks one bit;losing my ability to defend myself is a price I’m not paying just to see Bloomberg and co take a hit .

  3. This is not a victory for Liberty. I’m not advocating trying to become a martyr for 2A, but if the opportunity thrusts itself upon you, shouldn’t we FIGHT! I just can’t imagine pleading “Guilty” for exercising my rights.

    • I understand your sentiments, but fighting a court battle is a difficult, expensive, exhausting, and dangerous proposition. It’s a lot to ask for the ordinary citizen who just wanted to take a weekend nice trip out of town.

        • Good for him that he’s willing to take that on. It’s a big commitment. I can understand how someone wouldn’t want to do so, and would much rather make it all go away, especially if they wouldn’t lose their gun rights.

        • If I recall correctly, he didn’t have much choice since a guilty plea even to the lesser charge would have put him out of his chosen profession as he could no longer be bonded.

  4. Criminal possession of a firearm in the fourth-degree is a class A misdemeanor punishable by prison time not to exceed one year. Sec. 922 would disqualify her if she pleaded to any mis that had potential jail time of over one year, regardless of the actual sentence. What a difference a day makes.

This case was an embarrassment for New York, made even more so when that bloviating gasbag of a mayor accused the woman of possessing cocaine.

  5. I guarantee you that if this was not publicized like it was, the prosecutors would have done anything and everything to throw her in a cage.

  6. The best part about NYC is that I can drive 15 hours and not have to sneak across the border to visit something like North Korea.

  7. If you visit NY City, ya might as well take a trip to Russia and China also. Good for her, but it’s still a crock of crap nonetheless.

    • It’s called officer discretion in the south. I guess NYC really does have a bunch of JBTs running around.

  8. When the story first hit, I said she’d get a slap on the wrist and nothing more because she obvioulsy doesn’t fit the profile of gun trafficker.

Many of you guys said oh no, Bloomberg will make an example out of her. I don’t read too many admissions of having called it wrong. You were so busy bashing the mayor back then, now you just want to skip that part.

    • Mikeb, the reason for the speculation is NYC’s history of hammering good folks who did not know about its draconian firearms laws. This is the same reason many of us think Obama is out to ban guns. If you follow his track record through the IL political machine; that is all he has done in his career.

  9. It’s a miscarriage of justice. Criminals are allowed to turn in guns under an amnesty program with no penalties and no questions asked. Why wasn’t this otherwise law-abiding citizen allowed to do the same? Quick answer, NYC coddles criminals and punishes the good citizens.

  10. I’ve said this before, but I”m more than ever of a mind not to carry any more ANYWHERE. My wife and I both have CCW’s and seldom do we carry, because of several possible problems: theft of a firearm if left in the car; possibility of entering some place that would result in inadvertant crime of criminal trespass; and the possibility of running into something like New Jerk Slitty and Mayor Boomberg’s feifdom. Thus, let it be known that we NEVER intend to return to some of the places we have traveled to in the past to have a good vacation and SPEND MONEY, such as California, New Jerksky, NY, Illinois, and CANADA. If these places intend to keep attracting people who want to protect themselves with legal carry and then incarcerating them, they are on notice that their tourist traffic will diminish and I hope it goes to ZERO. One last word: Just SCREW Em. I’m perfectly happy to stay near home where I am comfortable and reasonably safe. My hometown always can use the money.

  11. How do they in NY pick and choose who they offer certain deals to? Is it based on what borough you are arrested or pulled over in?

  12. The best answer for most of us is to NEVER go to NY or NYC for ANY reason. I understand that some business people MUST go there, but the risk of being armed is too great for the remainder of your life. I am curtailing all my travel to only those places that are at least somewhat friendly to gun owners and carriers. And that list is getting smaller every day. Talk about Sequestration! Us gun owners will soon be sequestered to our homes or maybe our cars, even with CCW licenses (I prefer the term License to Permit). It will be very hard for me to ever understand how the “uninformed voters” ever let themselves and the rest of us get to this point. If only they could see that their personal freedom and liberty and 2A rights are just about the most important thing we have in this nation, Iknow I know it’s our “children”, but you must put the 2A up against your childrens’ future and safety. Do you want them to grow up in a virtual prison but be “safe”? That’s what is happening now. We need everybody who votes to wake up and help stem this surf tide of 2A attacks.
