Email blast from the NRA ILA:

While both sides in the gun control debate regroup after our victory in the Senate earlier this week, I want to give credit where credit is due. The credit for Wednesday’s defeat of gun control goes to the countless gun owners and other Americans who drew a line in the sand—who sent emails and letters and made phone calls to their U.S. senators, urging them to protect private firearm transfers, semi-automatic firearms, and the magazines that millions of Americans own for self-defense . . .

There is no question that you shocked the enemies of liberty two days ago. Going into Wednesday’s votes, they thought victory was within reach. Many in the media had pushed the idea that resistance to the gun control agenda was futile, and some of our more aggressive adversaries may have started to believe their own propaganda. I’m sure some had convinced themselves that the intensity of their anger toward gun owners was all that was necessary to assure victory.

But you and your fellow gun owners proved them wrong. As you know, the best Americans do what they have to do, not for personal praise, but because it’s the right thing to do. They do what has to be done not only for themselves, but for their fellow Americans today and for generations of Americans to come. Nevertheless, on behalf of all of us at NRA headquarters, I want to thank you for answering the call.

As you know, however, we can take only measured comfort from this week’s success. In his bitter response to the Senate’s votes, President Obama said that this fight is far from over, and that’s the one thing that he is right about.

Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), sponsor of the gun control bill debated this week, has promised to bring his bill up at a more opportune moment. Obama’s “Organizing for America,” billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s “Mayors Against Illegal Gun Guns,” and former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ “Americans for Responsible Solutions” will focus their efforts on defeating pro-Second Amendment senators in 2014.

I say to those groups and their leaders, that pro-Second Amendment senators stood with us and we will stand with them, as we have with other elected representatives who have supported the Second Amendment before them.

Over the last generation, gun owners have had tremendous success advancing our cause. The refusal of the Obama administration and anti-gun radicals in Congress to attack us during Obama’s first term is a testament to our strength. They became emboldened by Obama’s reelection and over the last four months, we have weathered an anti-gun public relations campaign as severe as any we have experienced. And we have won the first legislative battle at the national level.

Our adversaries are well-funded, though, and as determined as any we have seen before. The fight ahead will be as difficult as this organization and the gun owning community has ever faced. Prepare for what’s ahead. Every gun owner will be needed on the team. Elected officials who support the Second Amendment will be subjected to a well-financed, cleverly conceived campaign designed to convince them that they are on the wrong side of history. Our job and yours will be to expose that claim for the fraud that it is. Please find strength in the knowledge that the victories best savored are those that are hardest fought, and encourage our friends in Congress to do the same.

Thank you for all you did to win this fight, and for your readiness to win the fights that will come.

  1. Wayne who? No I won’t be distracted. Way to keep the finger out side the guard lady, your kicked to the curb now gorgeous, well…maybe not, Randy

  2. Elections elections elections! Next year’s is very critical to protecting the 2A and if you live in VA, like I do, this year’s is important too!

    • Spot on regarding the 2014 Congressional elections. As my for state (Colorado) I’m not optimistic. Repealing the anti-gun bills that were passed this year would require the Republicans taking both houses and the governorship.

Not likely, to say the least.

    • LOL! Awesome and correct. There is a long, long, long fight yet to go. This is but one battle of many sure to come. For states like CT, it may be 6 to 10yrs before our crap laws are heard in front of SCOTUS if ever.

  3. No, I’d say the National Rifle Association pines for gun violence. More guns in the hands of bad guys is used by the gun lobby as reasons to sell even more guns to the rest of the population. The deaths resulting from making it easy for the criminals and the crazies to purchase firearms makes people lose faith in the police – and then, they go buy guns.

Worried about the evil government compiling a list of gun owners, or abridging your constitutional rights? Try looking at what’s been done to the rest of the Bill of Rights in this post 9/11 world. These days, speech that used to be considered protected by the Constitution can be characterized as “material support of terrorism” – for which people can be imprisoned. Sell a gun to someone that can’t pass background checks in a “private sale” – perfectly legal under Federal law (your state may vary).

Case in point: the push to declare the Boston Marathon bombing suspect as an “enemy combatant” and shipping him off to Guantanamo for “harsh interrogation” and imprisonment without trial – all at the hands of the Executive Branch. If you’re nervous about government overreach, worry about what happens if someone with an agenda decides to expand the “enemy combatant” policies to, say, people talking about gun ownership as a way of fighting back against oppressive government policies.

      • Without the rest of the Bill of Rights, the Second Amendment becomes meaningless and unenforceable.

I’ll say again: preserving the rights of criminals and mentally unstable people to purchase weapons because maybe, possibly, someone might later pass additional legislation is a bad idea. As the government can easily get lists of gun owners by creating a big database generated from warrantless data-dumps from Internet providers (look up CISPA), defeating reasonable background check regulations is at best an illusory victory.

    • I agree with jwm. KISS. This is round one for 2A rights and theres much to be done especially at the state level. Read Army of Davids and tie in with Tea Party. That is using organizing tactics that worked to leverage NRA national lobby power and other groups for litigation. SAF GOA etc. This requires every man on deck to keep educating friends and family grassroots up and thats how blogs like TTAG serve us by becoming the go to site you can point them for truth.

    • PS I get your point Repub but this is about 2A. Theres plenty of places to go organize or complain about GITMO including Huffpo and the ACLU. Going further OT would be a distraction.

    • RepubAnon, your comment is an argument for exactly why the bill needed to die. The fact that the rest of the Constitution and Bill of Rights has been violated so casually means the government can’t be trusted to respect any restrictions imposed upon it in new legislation. We live in a world where the government can spy Americans in secret, and when it gets out no one can sue them for violating their Fourth Amendment rights, because they can’t prove standing because the spying was secret and therefore they can’t prove that they specifically where spied upon. The current president has openly ordered the killing of American citizens without due process, and has a secret list of more he’d like to do the same.

So we’re going to be adding supervising gun sales to the powers of that government, and ask them nicely to prosecute anyone caught making a list? In my opinion, you’re looking at this completely backwards. The fact that the Constitution has been mostly shredded isn’t reason to shred more of it, it’s reason to draw the line and start the process of restoration.

  4. In the words of:

Public Enemy-‘Don’t give up the fight’

Bob Marley-‘Get up, Stand up, Stand up for your rights’

    Good lyrics to remember…………….

  5. If I am recalling correctly, from having lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, that piece of leather jewelry on her right wrist signifies she’s a submissive. If it was on her left wrist it would represent dominant. Isn’t it amazing the things I learned in California?

  6. Kind of funny how much can happen when more than 1/7th of the gun owners of America get involved.

Sorry, Cox, your fear mongering did NOT move those of us who are the non-NRA-ILA into action but thanks for the thank you.

  7. Interesting no one is worked up about her having her finger in the trigger guard, but the supposed “hunter” in the MAIG video w his finger inside the trigger guard of the shottie has everyone upset.

  8. As Robert said it’s the phone call , not the girl ! , anyway the fight is not over this U.N. treaty can hurt the American gun market, Cheap import ammo and surplus arms has helped the poor guy keep shooting and with a 2A unfriendly government they too see how important that is. think cheap lots stuff, and when a guy gets a better job he too will buy top line American goods… I see young people all the time at the range and they do not have the $1000.00 plus $ guns…

  9. I think any legislation in the Senate is dead now. BUT the real fight is for the 2014 elections the fate of congress will be our constitution’s fate. We all must support pro gun candidates any wear and help keep congress from being Obama’s rubber stamp.

As for this year 2013 I think the fights in congress unless another shooting occurs is over. The fight will take us to the summer to keep most states free for gun rights as anti gunner who lost in congress will step up in the states to kill freedom. lets keep united and win this war for the 2013-14 season.

  10. This picture fits nicely into a movie about a dystopian post Apocalyptic America, where isolated survivors fight their way to some mythical peaceful nirvana in California or Florida… come to think of it that’s exactly what post Boston America has pretty much become. The unarmed are just waiting victims, now.

  11. That’s the before picture. The after picture is of the huge gouge in her face from the recoil of the negligently discharged pistol.
