Despite the fact that gun control is way down the list of voters’ priorities, the President’s CNN town hall confab has placed civilian disarmament at the top of the assault media’s pile. They will eventually lose interest, of course, until the eventual Republican nominee picks up the ballistic ball and runs with it to increase Republican turnout in the general election. Meanwhile, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie . . .

is rising in the New Hampshire presidential primary polls on the back of his get-tough-on-terrorism shtick. But man is the Obama-hugger weak on gun rights. Well he was. His position has changed. He’s now in favor of “shall issue” and “working towards making it easier for folks to able to get a permit in New Jersey.”

Uh, no. Christie could issue an executive order – yes, one of those – to change NJ to “shall issue” for concealed carry. As for easing the Garden State’s unconstitutional restrictions on concealed carry, Christie’s referring to the report by the Firearm Purchase and Permitting Study Commission, the three-member body created by Christie the night before he announced his presidential bid. Which did nothing to ameliorate NJ’s disarmament regime.

Forgive and forget? I don’t think so. And probably neither do you. But again, your average voter doesn’t care so much about gun control. Still, we’ve seen Obama generate crocodile tears for victims of “gun violence” in pursuit of his anti-gun agenda Is this RINO’s regrets on gun rights going to sway anyone to vote for Chris Christie?

  1. RINO Alert! All hands to battle stations! RINO Alert!

Close all hatches. Secure the donuts. Fire anti-yankee interceptors.

  2. Why don’t the MF’S worry about protecting the USA from both foreign and domestic terrorism and not do anything that makes it difficult for us to protect ourselves?

    • Haven’t you heard? To them, WE are the terrorists.

By virtue of being free-minded and not only willing, but wanting to take personal responsibility in our own lives (not just for defense), we have rejected our “need” for them.

That makes us the bad guy in their minds.

  3. Boool shit, Mr. Han-man! Not buying it at all; the man’s spent his whole life in NJ, for God’s sake. More than enough time to realize the horror of that monstrosity, and he’s had more than enough time to do something about it. He has not. Not until he had to start appealing to the savages from fly-over country he previously kept locked up on the most moronic charges imaginable if they got caught passing through.

Now, given sufficient guidance (and direction w/ consequences) from a Chief Executive, he may make for a fine Attorney General or ATF Director or something. But not a president who gives the marching orders. The East Coast is lost; anyone hailing from that den of iniquity (with regards to civil rights) cannot be trusted with the highest levels power at this point. Anyone passionate about the rule of law and individual rights would have run away from the cities screaming long ago.

    • Taft!
      Who’s the biggest private dick
That’s a sex machine to all the chicks?
      (Taft!)
      You’re damn right
      Who is the man
that would risk his neck for his countryman?
      (Taft!)
      Can ya dig it?
      Who’s the fat-cat that won’t cop out
      when there’s tariffs all about
      (Taft!)
      Right on
You see this cat Taft is a bad mother–
      (Shut your mouth)
      But I’m talkin’ about Taft
      (Then we can dig it)
      He’s a convoluted man
but no one understands him but his…sandwich
      (William Howard Taft)

  4. The American Heart folks say otherwise. It’s as pertinent as Obama’s smoking habit(s), which is why he got his stomach amputated or whatever and has lost nearly an entire fourth-grader (& is still fat). Also speaks to will power & self control, how he let himself get as big as he did; strongly suggests not giving a damn, nor having to.

  5. As a young politician, Christie made his reputation as a gungrabber. I can certainly believe that a man can change his views over time, but I haven’t seen any real evidence that Christie has changed anything.

Sorry, Chris, but I can’t believe a word that you say, about guns or anything else. And humping King Hussein’s leg the way you did after the big storm only made me distrust you more.

    • NJ is as anti-gun as ever. Christie has done next to nothing to change it. He doesn’t want to change it. He’s had plenty of time to show that at least he’s trying. Nope, nothing. Now that he needs votes, he wants people to believe he’d make NJ into a gun-loving state if only the state legislators weren’t always in his way. Nonsense. He was always in favor of the AWB, he’s done nothing to repeal it. He’s done nothing to change our carry laws. I’m sure he’s also aware of the ridiculous FOID requirements and the absurdly long waits for pistol purchase permits. Abuse of the 2A is everywhere. Save for a couple of vetoes for which he deserves credit, he’s been happy with the status quo. He might say that he’s changed his mind, but why should anyone believe him since he has done nothing to prove it?

  6. Christie is a political weathervane, pointing whatever direction the wind blows.

People like him give politicians a bad name.

  7. Isn’t “shall issue” or “may issue” usually a matter of the statutory language creating the “permit” system in the first place? And as a general rule, executive orders cannot directly override statutory language. I know this stuff varies from state to state, so maybe someone who knows the NJ statute can help me out here–I’m not seeing how Christie could change “may issue’ to “shall issue” via an executive order. And before anybody says, “well, Obama does it, ” let me just say, maybe so, maybe not (he didn’t change anything last go-round, except maybe for HIPAA), but in either case it’s unseemly at best for us to criticize Obama for EO overreach and then criticize someone else for NOT overreaching. Addendum: just googled and found the relevant language in the NJ Administrative code. I’m assuming that like the Texas Administrative Code, the NJAC is a statute, written by the NJ legislature.

    • My understanding is the ‘good cause’ portion is entirely up to his office, and it is entirely within his authority to treat ‘self defense’ as a sufficient reason to own/carry/etc a firearm. He has not made any pretense at treating it as such to this date.

    • New Jersey law allow for permits to be issued with “justifiable need”.

Justifiable need is not defined in the legislation. The Attorney General can publish an opinion defining that to include self defense.

      • Of course this has never been changed and for all I know Christie never even looked into it. So what does that tell you? All NJ politicians are happy with the intentionally vague law because each permit application can be easily denied. But now he says he’s this 2A loving, pro-gun guy who’s for shall issue all of a sudden? What a joke.

        • Born and raised in NJ. If you’re politically connected, you can become a “reserve officer”. The politicians buddies are covered, so screw everyone else. The government powers are very palpable. It is a virtual police state compared to most other places in the USA. Even Massachusetts has better gun laws.

      • OK, thank you, that’s the kind of thing I was looking for. Are AG opinions binding on anyone in NJ? They aren’t in Texas

        • They would hopefully be binding to the police and judges (who would approve the permit applications).

    • Let’s hope. BTW, I have no interest in someone with his record being AG, either. I’m sure there are jobs he could contribute a lot in, but any jurisdiction over gun laws should be a no-no.

  8. “What I would like to propose, since I was a prosecutor appointed right before 9/11 who hugged not just victims of terror but also obama, is that I take your 4th and your 2nd amendment rights… and I eat them.” -Christie (or something like that)

  9. It sure is an issue. How is he gonna manage the country and challenge the world when he can’t even mange his wieght or challenge a push up. We need to go back to the days when leaders would PHYSICALLY lead in spirit and in combat. This dudes a chode.

  10. If he’d lose some weight maybe people would take him seriously. At the end of the day people want a leader that is mentally AND physically fit. Not sorry if I offended you fat asses.

    • I don’t know, he got elected governor by challenging his opponent to ‘man up and call me fat’.

What you need to be president in the modern age is charisma. Telegenic is great, but it’s the charismatic personality that seals the deal. The good news is the the least charismatic politician running for president is Hillary Clinton (also the second fattest). The second least charismatic candidate is Bernie Sanders. O’Malley’s in great shape but he’s a dead fish. The Dems will be pining for Lincoln Chaffey by November.

  11. Sure it is. It tells me he lacks discipline and is at a higher risk for serious health issues. Not qualities I want in a President.

I’m done with the political correctness. Nothing wrong with calling a fat man a fat man.

  12. It’s actually entirely relevant. If the man can’t exert self control and stop shoveling food into his mouth, how can he be expected to make wise decisions elsewhere or exert self control?

  13. Nailed it. And everybody picked up on your usage of the word “fat.” That is the LEAST of the worries for this guy, yet somehow it’s out of bounds.
So, I ditto the original comment, word for word.

    • Fair enough everyone and points to Ralph for being clever. Maybe the problem is more about how I said it wasn’t “an” issue rather than “the” issue. Sure being overweight is an issue but it’s not the issue at hand that this article is about. That’s what I was getting at. With that said if Farago decides to write up an article regarding Christie’s weight I say go ahead with all the fat jokes you’ve got and I’d probably join in as well. Also Ralph that comment was just to damn funny seriously you ought to go and try some stand up comedy sometime.

  14. MEH-that tough guy schtick only works in Joisey. I’m a Cruz guy. The Bury Soetoro hugger is on a never ever list for me.

  15. Omg. Lol. NJ shall issue. Hahaha. Wow. I just choked on my rum and coke. Lol thanks for the laugh guys. Made my night.

  16. Wow, it’s like going to a liberal website – you refresh the page today and half of the comments have been deleted!

  17. He’s still Governor and NJ, in practice, is a no-issue state.

Christie claims he can’t do anything about it without the legislature, but that’s bullsh*t.

Christie could instruct the NJ attorney general to interpret self-defense as “justifiable need”. Christie could then instruct the NJSP to issue CCW permits to those that claim self-defense as their justifiable need.

This would not run afoul of existing law and could be implemented with a stroke of the Governor’s pen.

But this RINO won’t do that.
