is rising in the New Hampshire presidential primary polls on the back of his get-tough-on-terrorism shtick. But man is the Obama-hugger weak on gun rights. Well he was. His position has changed. He’s now in favor of “shall issue” and “working towards making it easier for folks to able to get a permit in New Jersey.”
Uh, no. Christie could issue an executive order – yes, one of those – to change NJ to “shall issue” for concealed carry. As for easing the Garden State’s unconstitutional restrictions on concealed carry, Christie’s referring to the report by the Firearm Purchase and Permitting Study Commission, the three-member body created by Christie the night before he announced his presidential bid. Which did nothing to ameliorate NJ’s disarmament regime.
Forgive and forget? I don’t think so. And probably neither do you. But again, your average voter doesn’t care so much about gun control. Still, we’ve seen Obama generate crocodile tears for victims of “gun violence” in pursuit of his anti-gun agenda Is this RINO’s regrets on gun rights going to sway anyone to vote for Chris Christie?

Now, given sufficient guidance (and direction w/ consequences) from a Chief Executive, he may make for a fine Attorney General or ATF Director or something. But not a president who gives the marching orders. The East Coast is lost; anyone hailing from that den of iniquity (with regards to civil rights) cannot be trusted with the highest levels power at this point. Anyone passionate about the rule of law and individual rights would have run away from the cities screaming long ago.

The American Heart folks say otherwise. As a young politician, Christie made his reputation as a gungrabber. I can certainly believe that a man can change his views over time, but I haven’t seen any real evidence that Christie has changed anything.

NJ is as anti-gun as ever. Christie has done next to nothing to change it. He doesn’t want to change it. He’s had plenty of time to show that at least he’s trying. Nope, nothing. Now that he needs votes, he wants people to believe he’d make NJ into a gun-loving state if only the state legislators weren’t always in his way. Nonsense. He was always in favor of the AWB, he’s done nothing to repeal it. He’s done nothing to change our carry laws. I’m sure he’s also aware of the ridiculous FOID requirements and the absurdly long waits for pistol purchase permits. Abuse of the 2A is everywhere. Save for a couple of vetoes for which he deserves credit, he’s been happy with the status quo. He might say that he’s changed his mind, but why should anyone believe him since he has done nothing to prove it?
He is still the governor, he cannot make these claims without DOING something.

Isn’t “shall issue” or “may issue” usually a matter of the statutory language creating the “permit” system in the first place? And as a general rule, executive orders cannot directly override statutory language. I know this stuff varies from state to state, so maybe someone who knows the NJ statute can help me out here–I’m not seeing how Christie could change “may issue’ to “shall issue” via an executive order. And before anybody says, “well, Obama does it, ” let me just say, maybe so, maybe not (he didn’t change anything last go-round, except maybe for HIPAA), but in either case it’s unseemly at best for us to criticize Obama for EO overreach and then criticize someone else for NOT overreaching. Addendum: just googled and found the relevant language in the NJ Administrative code. I’m assuming that like the Texas Administrative Code, the NJAC is a statute, written by the NJ legislature.
My understanding is the ‘good cause’ portion is entirely up to his office, and it is entirely within his authority to treat ‘self defense’ as a sufficient reason to own/carry/etc a firearm. He has not made any pretense at treating it as such to this date.

Justifiable need is not defined in the legislation. The Attorney General can publish an opinion defining that to include self defense.
Of course this has never been changed and for all I know Christie never even looked into it. So what does that tell you? All NJ politicians are happy with the intentionally vague law because each permit application can be easily denied. But now he says he’s this 2A loving, pro-gun guy who’s for shall issue all of a sudden? What a joke.
Born and raised in NJ. If you’re politically connected, you can become a “reserve officer”. The politicians buddies are covered, so screw everyone else. The government powers are very palpable. It is a virtual police state compared to most other places in the USA. Even Massachusetts has better gun laws.

What you need to be president in the modern age is charisma. Telegenic is great, but it’s the charismatic personality that seals the deal. The good news is the the least charismatic politician running for president is Hillary Clinton (also the second fattest). The second least charismatic candidate is Bernie Sanders. O’Malley’s in great shape but he’s a dead fish. The Dems will be pining for Lincoln Chaffey by November.

Christie could instruct the NJ attorney general to interpret self-defense as “justifiable need”. Christie could then instruct the NJSP to issue CCW permits to those that claim self-defense as their justifiable need.
This would not run afoul of existing law and could be implemented with a stroke of the Governor’s pen.
But this RINO won’t do that.
If this man is the republican nominee, the the hilldabeast has a very good chance of winning.
