Is the promotion price the dealer cost or MSRP for the promotion price version?
Wonder how the tactical rifle kit will compare, price and performance, to the PSA kit (which has sights) for $420+$10 sling plate.
Stag’s AR10 was a good gun at a good price. They’ve always been good guns, and the company has a great track record. Solid buy here.
I took delivery of a Stag model 10L in 6.5 Creedmoor, 22″ Bbl. I’ve only been to the range twice and I’m still learning how to use the psr , but I’ve got 2″ groups at 300 yards, and I know that the rifle is capable of much better, I’m just not comfortable or stable on the gun yet.
With all this AR stuff lately, I’d love to see a cheap AR kit shoot out. Find the cheapest build kits possible, like those $299 –
$350 complete, minus lower kits (then find a cheap lower) assemble them, and pit them against each other.
Seems like you could get 5 or 6 good articles out of it.

I’d up it to 360 to include the non-freefloated PSA kit. Should have a “standard” AR15 to compare it to too in the interest of good testing policy. Otherwise seems like a great idea for an article.
Yeah a run-of-the-mill factory AR as the control.
Then the problem becomes, what factory for the benchmark?
M&P15 Sport II is supposed to be the best selling complete rifle in the US from what I can find, and goes for ~$450. Ruger’s AR-556 is a runner up and would be fine too.
S&W M&P15 Sport II, Ruger AR556, Bushmaster Quick Response Carbine.
Any of those in that street price $550 – $620 range. They’d make a cheap factory made control rifle.
So what do you gain or lose by rolling your own? Let’s say you also had to buy a $30 AR wrench, so how does that $350 – $400 assembly required rifle compare to the factory new rifle for $200 more.
What else could one get for that ~$200 that might make an assembled rifle better than the cheapest factory rifle?
Or maybe a contest among the TTAG staff to build the “best” rifle with a budget of $400-$500. Do a review on each rifle build, and then maybe a couple of “shootout” articles to determine the winner.
All of these are great ideas.
I can tell you from personal experience that Pslmetto State Armory AR-15 uppers and lowers run just fine. I’ve had more than a dozen upper/ lower combos running 5.56, 6.8 SPC, and .300 BLK.
The biggest issue I’ve had was one upper that required 3 dissassemblies and cleanings before it would run reliably. After that it ran 300 rounds straight of AE. 223 / 5.56 and even Wolf .223 without a hiccup.
The PA-10 .308 uppers can have problems, though. I just had a two stage spring assembly put into the extractor of my bolt, and an adjustable gas block currently set to about .080 or .082″. Hopefully everything is sorted out on that.

4140 and no melonite treatment?
Nothing Wrong With Buying/Assymbling/Purchasing a Sub$600 AR-15, Heck I Might Even Consider One Down The Road, But For My First AR-15 I Plan On Purchasing Soon I’m Going With The $1350 Smith&Wesson M&P Performance Center 18″ 5.56, a $500 Leupold Patrol VXR 3-9x40mm Scope, and Various 62gr and 77gr Ammo – I Figure It’s Expensive But It’s An Item I’ll Pretty Much Aren’t Going To Part With Anytime Soon Either…
I don’t understand how the specs state the barrel is 4140 steel with a 1-9 twist when the actual STAG ARMS site states that the specs on this gun are “4150 barrel steel with a 1-7 twist”. Either “The truth about guns” isn’t telling the truth, or Stag Arms isn’t. What Gives?
Check their rating with the BBB. They failed to quality check my rifle before shipping to me. They said it would be 2-4 weeks and missed that date. I missed a competition because of Stag Arms and they were very difficult to deal with. I recommend finding a company who cares about customer service.
I find that VERY HARD to believe! Every rifle Stag Arms make is under LIFETIME WARRANTY. Every barrel has an INFINITE SHOT GUARANTEE, and Stag even pays for THE SHIPPING COST BACK TO THEM IF EVER THERE SHOULD BE A PROBLEM! A warranty like that is BUSINESS SUICIDE unless you KNOW FOR A FACT THAT YOUR PRODUCT IS OUTSTANDING! It doesn’t say “HP/MP” on the barrel for nothing. Their parent company is now Whitewolf(I believe), but it used to be CM TOOL. The same company that has supplied COLT with AR-15 parts for OVER 30 YEARS! They know better than most how to make an excellent rifle. I own one and I’m proud to say so. It’s hands down the best performing AR I’ve ever owned
Ordered a stag from my local FFL 2 months ago and stag has yet to give him a date on when it will be coming in… Stag refuses to tell me any updates either. The FFL I’m going through has over $5,000 in guns ordered from stag and they still can’t give him a estimated date.
