GENESEO, IL, September 11, 2017 – The acclaimed Springfield Armory® SAINT™ with free float handguard is now available in a fully California-compliant version.
Factory-equipped with state-approved stock, 10-round magazine, and muzzle brake, the new California-edition SAINT delivers the performance, reliability and value every SAINT is known for – yet does not require registration as an “assault rifle” and does not demand questionable aftermarket modifications.
The California model of the SAINT featuring a free float handguard is a “featureless” firearm, with no components that might call compliance into question.
Instead of the standard SAINT six-position buttstock and Bravo Company Mod 3 pistol grip, the California SAINT has a rigid Survivor System Option Zero stock and Tango Down BG 16 grip. The stock feels and fits like a sporting rifle, and the angled “back paddle” grip keeps the thumb on one side of the firearm — a shooting position that’s easily adopted, accurate, and state compliant.
A 10-round MAGPUL PMAG Gen M3 magazine replaces the standard 30-round version. Instead of a typical AR-15 flash hider, the California SAINT sports a proprietary Springfield Armory muzzle brake that dampens barrel jump and meets state specs.

The patent-pending free float handguard system with pinned low-profile gas block allows the operator to grip the full length of the handguard without impediment. The hard-anodized aluminum handguard design is optics-ready and accepts M-Lok accessories for easy, almost unlimited customization. Elevation-adjustable, flip-up front sight, and dual aperture flip-up rear sight can be folded down or utilized to co-witness with optics. Bravo Company trigger guard surrounds the enhanced nickel-boron coated, single-stage GI trigger resulting in an incredibly crisp, grit-free break from first squeeze to last shot.
Upper and lower receivers are forged type III hard-anodized aircraft-grade 7075 T6 aluminum, equipped with Springfield’s Accu-Tite™ tension system that locks receiver into a solid unit that feels, handles and shoots seamlessly. The M16 bolt carrier group is precision-machined, the bolt made from Carpenter 158 steel, shot peened and magnetic-particle inspected for extreme durability.

To the Author: Are you saying that PoG in CA shouldn’t have access to compliant to illegal laws for now? That gun makers should not make weapons that gives access to guns? I understand that SA did give startup funds to the lobby group that pushed for this carve-out, but, no one has ever produce (not that I have yet to see) where they have knowingly agreed to carve-out or where they have donated recently to lobby group. Until such evidence arises, I will continue to buy SA. If such evidence does exist, then I will change my thoughts on buying their products. So please lets stop throwing PoG, manufacturers, and such “under the bus” without real evidence. On TTAG itself I have seen very little to show that there is any real evidence but lots of speculation.

That said, looks like a properly ‘featureless’ configuration.
Figures that SA would be proud to launch a line of compliant spec guns to meet an extremely unconstitutional state statute. How about SA try to rejuvenate their name by funding and campaigning for some solid pro 2A candidates? That would go a long way in my book.

As an unfortunate subject of the Democratic People’s Republic of Californistan, I do appreciate Springfield Armory’s efforts to sell me semiautomatic rifles here. But no matter what their presser says, these featureless configurations are abominations. I can deal with the fixed stock and the muzzle brake, but that grip panel absolutely destroys the functionality and aesthetics of the AR platform.

Why would anyone want something like this? It kind of defeats the purpose of an AR-15 in my opinion. You might as well just buy a ruger mini and call it a day. It would be a lot easier to load from a fixed magazine too. or go with just about any other traditionally stocked semi auto rifle considering you cant get more than 10 rounds in a mag anyway.

The way I saw the news play out, Springfield committed a horrific betrayal against Illinois gun owners and, when called on it, tried to repent and took substantial efforts to get the bill killed.
The Donald endorsed the assault weapons ban(!) before he decided he was against it. He endorsed government-run health care. He suggested permanently doing away with the debt ceiling. He declared he was absolutely pro-choice, then he was anti-abortion, then he was for imprisoning women who got an abortion, then he wasn’t. He said Mexico is going to pay for a wall, but now he’s having the American taxpayer pay for it. He was going to end DACA immediately, then he gave it six months so the legislature could legalize it(!), then he told the Dreamers not to worry, nothing was going to happen to them. He put Jeff Sessions in as Attorney General, who’s been incredibly effective and probably the Cabinet member who’s done more to promote the Trump agenda than any other, then he tried his damnedest to get Sessions to quit. Trump vowed to end the Iranian nuclear deal on day one; then once in office, he recertified it.
So I guess I’m asking — if the litmus test is “one wrong move and you’re burned forever” like it appears to be for Springfield, then how come Trump gets a free pass? And if it’s “one wrong move and you’re burned forever”, why do people still support S&W and Ruger? Is it just a case of time healing all wounds?
I can’t speak to the Trump stuff, because I never trusted him to keep his promises in the first place, but I think most of the folks who have forgiven S&W and Ruger have done so because the management of both companies has changed since those bad decisions were made. Both companies were punished pretty severely in the marketplace for some time, and I think many people feel as though they’ve made amends. Springfield is just at the beginning of that process, and nothing has really changed at the management level, so it remains to be seen if they’re just engaging in a little temporary ass-covering, or if they’ve really committed themselves to supporting the RKBA.

They make a big deal about features like adjustable stocks, flash suppressors, pistol grips and grenade launcher slots on the barrel, while none of those things has any impact whatsoever on the weapons ballistic characteristics. But because they are scary and it makes Liberals look like they are doing something, they latch onto them.
