About Springfield Armory®
“The First Name in American Firearms,” Springfield Armory® was founded in 1777, when George Washington ordered the creation of an armory to store ammunition and gun carriages during the American Revolution. In 1794, the armory began to manufacture muskets and spent the next 150 years supplying firearms for every major American conflict. The original armory closed in 1968. In 1974, the Reese family took ownership of the Springfield Armory® name and began making the M1A™ rifle. Today, Springfield Armory® develops many products loyal to the company’s heritage, like the 1911 pistol, while ensuring its future with innovative products, including the XD®, XD® Mod.2®, XD(M)®, and XD-S® polymer pistols and now the new SAINT™ AR-15 rifle.

  1. It’s called the Springfield GZ series. It will have the words “GRIP ZONE” engraved in large font on both sides of the slide and the grip panels. For improved grip, they will also spell out “GRIP ZONE” in braille.

  2. If the much hyped saint release has taught us anything it’s that this will be something totally new and never seen before. It will revolutionize the pistol world.

  3. If you go pause it at just the right moment at then end when they don’t blur the gun shooting you can see it has a hammer. Could it be a more affordable double stack 1911 or just a double stack hammer fired gun? Interested to see what it is.

  4. Take a look at this screenshot I nabbed, more revealing than I would have expected:

    1. Looks to be striker fired. I mean, maybe DAO with concealed hammer, but more likely a striker right?
    2. Looks to be plastic frame
    3. Looks kind of like an original XD but with the rear of the slide rounded a bit?

Can’t really tell whats going on, looks to be a pretty normal striker fired polymer Glock 19 sized gun to me.

Maybe the “innovation” of this product line will be that, like the new CZ striker, its designed to fit into Glock holsters?

    • I’m thinking it’s gonna have those new titanium bilateral tactical magazine bearings.
My inside source already confirmed that it will have night sights with the new Unobtanium-x34 iridescent blue dots!

  5. Its overall shape looks like a beretta apx 9 mm. It will mostly likely be a striker fired, 16+ round capacity handgun.

  6. It will be a three barrel inspired by the LeMats and Taurus Judge; the third barrel will be a smart barrel and pop out a microstamped BANG flag to keep New Jersey and California happy.

    • If any reputable manufacturer (I’m not looking at you Chiappa, sit back down), put out a modern LeMat, I would be tripping over my wallet flaps to be throwing money at them.

      8 rounds of .327 around a .410 or 28ga.
      Or
      8 rounds of .38/.357 around a 28 or 20 gauge.
      Or
      8 rounds of.44 around a 20ga. Ha!

But I know. The rifling and the NFA bullshit.

  7. I like my XDS and XDM, frankly I wouldn’t mind if they did come out with a 380

Screen freezes I’ve seen of the teaser vid show something that looks a bit slimmer and Glock-y than the XDM. Or is that Glockish. Like if the XDS and a Glock 19 had a little AustroCroation creation.

Wonder if they have gone with something that is a little lighter weight than the traditional Springfield offering, without the grip safety.

    • It’s not quite THAT bad. They still allow us to have caplocks. But crossbows are definitely on the way out. I was considering a nice gladius, but togas are so passe.

  8. I’m thinking something re-branded, a la the XD series. Try to think of a foreign-made hammer-fired pistol that is not sold in the U.S. or sold in the U.S. but not doing all that well. My first thought was the Rex Zero but that’s only been on sale here for a short while and probably too early to tell how successful it will be with its current branding.

  9. Obviously it is something in the compact or subcompact category, nothing new there, so about the only thing they could do is .380, and if that’s what it (almost certainly) is, isn’t Springfield kind of late to the show? Or have they missed it altogether? It seems to me that when Glock came out with their .380 subcompact, everyone waited with bated breath for the 9 mm.

    • I initially thought 380 as well, pretty much the only thing they don’t manufacture. Watching some of the video, given the apparent size of the pistol, the recoil seems a bit snappy for most 380 loads. But in other sections of the vid, it looks just like what I would expect 380 to do.

  10. Nope.
    It’s actually N E W pistol ammo.
Special unbreakable frangible dense disperse jacketed hollow convex points.
    Or SUFDDJHCP for short.

  11. It’s going to be a top break revolver that can have the barrel and cylinder removed so you can go from .22 LR up to .44 Special and have barrel lengths from 2 inches to 6 inches.

  12. Daniel Shaw definitely seems to be getting around these days, he used to be the director of training at my LGS in Wichita, KS.

  13. Considering Springfield trademarked XDE in January its probably that… Just sayin…

People who have done frame by frame are seeing stuff like the hammer, and a sign that shows the grip of the gun.

    XDE trademark.

They also trademarked “Saint Edge” around the same time, so i assume its gonna be an “XD edge”
I also expect the saint edge to be a competition ready gun, to pair with this. Edge line may be Competition line. Just my thoughts.

  14. Yeah, that email:

“Introducing a new Springfield Armory® pistol so compact, so capable, and so comfortable you’ll carry it everywhere.”

Does sound like a less-than-9mm. And the un-Springfield-like smooth, curved back of the slide does look like some sort of hammer fired platform.
