SIG’s line of hunting ammunition — SIG HT — has tripled in size this month. Expanding on their existing 120 grain 300 BLK offering, the new 60 grain .223 Rem HT and 150 grain .308 Win HT loads propel all-copper projectiles for consistent expansion and deep penetration. Varmint, deer, hogs, and more, SIG has it covered with lead-free options. Press release for the new .223 load follows, with the .308 info available here . . .

SIG SAUER ® Introduces SIG HT Hunting Ammunition in 223 Rem

Newington, NH (April 24, 2017) – SIG SAUER, Inc. continues to expand its SIG HT line of premium-grade rifle ammunition with the addition of 223 Rem. This supremely accurate hunting round features an all-copper bullet that delivers deep penetration and consistent 1.8x diameter expansion. The 60gr 223 Rem bullet has a muzzle velocity of 3,100 fps and muzzle energy of 1,280 ft-lbs making it an effective, hard-hitting varmint and predator round.

“The accuracy and effectiveness of the SIG HT line of ammunition is quickly making it a favorite among hunters, especially those who shoot high-performance AR rifles,” said Dan Powers, President of the SIG SAUER Ammunition Division. “The nose geometry of the SIG HT bullet is designed for superior feeding in these AR-style platforms, and we now offer SIG HT hunting loads in three calibers – supersonic 120gr 300BLK, 150gr 308 Win and 60gr 223 Rem.”

SIG HT cartridges are made with premium nickel-plated shell cases, and flash-reduced propellant is used to minimize visible signature while shooting in low-light situations. Premium quality primers are also used to minimize variations in velocity.

The SIG HT ammunition is produced on state-of- the-art loading equipment with electromechanical monitoring for charge weight consistency and geometric conformity. All SIG SAUER Elite Performance Ammunition is manufactured by SIG SAUER at its new ammunition manufacturing facility in Jacksonville, Arkansas to the same exacting standards as the company’s premium pistols and rifles. 1. And we need another ammo supplier, why? The LGS must tear their hair out trying to please everybody nowdays.. Must be 666 brands available now!

    • Because diversity in a marketplace generally leads to increased competition, and the result is usually lower prices and higher quality overall, with a more diverse offering of options along the price/performance curve…. how is that BAD?

    • According to the state of Oregon it is, but I would hesitate to shoot anything that weighs more than 200 lbs and may or may not attack my ass for shooting it with a .223

  2. If you are talking about the smaller bears like the black bears found in coastal North Carolina, then yes so long as you catch the bear unaware and your shot placement is PERFECT. I still would prefer at least a .308
If you are dealing with an angry grizzly or large brown bear that might charge you, you better have something with the world magnum in the name, because only a CNS hit will stop a charging grizzly or large brown bear.

  3. Reason I ask is because I’ve seen one get dropped like a bad habit with a 30-06. Made me wonder what 223 would have done…

  4. This is not yet on the Sig web site
No one seems to have it for sale anywhere on the web
It seems this announcement was a little premature
I assume it will be expensive
I do like shiny ammo as much as the next guy

    • They seem to have worked that out since you posted. I picked up several boxes at a pawn/gun shop in a small town in Texas. If they have it, larger stores are bound to be able to get it also.
