Reader Josh L. sends the latest news from the Garden State:
I thought you would be interested to see the report on guns and violence that was just released by Gov. Christie’s appointed SAFE Task Force committee.
Pages 3 – 23 are most relevant to guns, with the recommendations for gun restrictions summarized on page 23. In sum, the report begins with the wrong assumptions and arrives at worse conclusions. Politically, it does not leave the governor any space to avoid significant and completely unconstitutional gun restrictions. I hope the governor will not give in, but I can’t say I’m optimistic.
Here are the summary titles of for each of the task force’s recommendation. See the attached PDF for all the gory details.

His lips are moving
If it is only a matter of minutes for approve/ deny why do I have to wait 10 days in the PRK
Periodic FID card renewals? Yea, maybe if it didn’t take six months to get an FID card….. and then two weeks for a NICS check. The system they’ve got now is so broken it’s pathetic, and they want to add more red tape? What a joke.
Lived there, left there, ain’t going back..
Honestly those items make no sense whatsoever. He must have been in a hurry to get it done before his afternoon snack of 20 dorito chip bags.
Before all of this hysteria, I was in the market for a 12 gauge tactical shotgun for home defense. I was torn between the Remington Versamax and the Mossberg 930 SPX. I eventually went with the Mossberg, and boy am I glad I did. Not only is it a great gun, but given Remington’s sellout for short term gain, I’m so glad I didn’t give them my money. Remington just lost all of my business from firearms to ammo. Now, let’s see what the other “big” manufacturers do. I’m looking at you Colt, Ruger etc. Kudos to Beretta, and Magpul et al.
The man knows what he’s talking about. I’ll allow him that.
All you have to do to know this bill is CRAP is observing the actions of Bloomberg’s MAIG – they pull their anti-Toomy ads in PA & are now running a Toomy’s on our side ad. Follow the $$$. Call your senators, shut this infringement DOWN.
Any attempt at UBC will fail because nobody knows who owns what.
This WILL lead to legislation to bring in the registration of ALL firerams.
Then the bans will begin…..
….welcome to firearms ownership – UK style. 🙁
Bit of a tip for writing your senator. Keep it short. <140 words is said to be more effective.
WTF does this mean???
“Encourage and Facilitate the Voluntary Surrender of Lawfully-Owned Firearms for Safekeeping During Periods of Crisis”
Ya’ll sound like a bunch of Feinsteins. One rule for Yager, another rule for you.
Personally I don’t pay him any mind – fools usually go away if you don’t give them the time of day. I am glad that he’s back carrying. I’d rather have hot-head Yager locked and loaded and on my side than be down one less guy and a gun.
Furthermore, carry permits do not facilitate criminal gun use. If this guy was gonna go off the deep end, it’s not like an absence of legal carry was gonna stop him.
The man shouldn’t have had his permit revoked in the first place. Either go full Monty and strip his right to possess any guns, or leave him alone. Revoking a CCW doesn’t do diddly.
Anyone who opposes this bill is a FOOL. A damned fool. You’re going to give up the ability to bypass background checks with a CCW card, purchase handguns in any state, expanding peaceable passage laws, and allowing FFLs from out of state to sell out of state, all for the what, 13 shady dudes at the local gun show with the beat up Yugo SKS’s with tapco stocks? Utter fools.
My step mother and family fled Cuba as Castro took over. She warned us growing up of people who speak of knowing what is best for you. They do not have your best intentions at heart.
Castro was a charismatic leader who told the people what they wanted to hear. Once he was in power things changed much for the worse. Sounds similar to current events with my limited knowledge.
I think the media has lost any legitimate right to poke fun of Dan Quayle. How can they possibly mention the potato(e) incident, after Obama had his precious corpse-man moment? Biden is playing an adult, who’s pretending to be a child, who’s doing an impersonation of an adult.
Like Robin Williams, but without the creativity and comedic timing. Basically, an insufferable fool. And this buffoon is a heart beat from the presidency? Quoth Charles Grodin, “Oh sure, we’re completely safe.”
Best of luck and stuff.
This was my favorite:
“Authorize Courts to Order the Seizure of a Person’s Firearms Following an Arrest or Initiation of Civil Commitment Proceedings”
… thus citizens are now guilty until proven innocent?
And society would be more safe if any police officer could immediately conduct a full strip search of anyone, anywhere, any time, for any reason or even no reason. That doesn’t mean we should do it.
We need to eliminate the “safety trumps all” carte blanche mindset. Human dignity trumps all. All laws should uphold human dignity. Laws and policies that do that necessarily improve public safety.
Yeah, 20 cases or so of 5.56×45 along with the 9mm ammo makes a lot more sense. That being said, should the perpetrator get caught, they’ll likely face the same punishment a common thief in Islam would – amputation of a hand (or possibly both hands). Say what you will about Islam, that’s pretty harsh right there.
Tom
That guy’s gun handling skillz suck.
The feds can pass whatever laws they like. Then they have to enforce them.
At that point Farago and the rest of the TTAG crowd will have to make a decision: is the 2nd Amendment about hunting and sporting, or is it about defense against tyranny? There is no neutral position on this question. Quailing about legalities is no answer. The Founders broke the law for the sake of liberty. Will you?
Sadly, too many of you are still at the kindergarten level of understanding when it comes to this government. The GOP has already sold you out more times than you know, yet you’ll keep voting for them because they’re marginally better than the alternative. While you’re waiting for 2016 to roll around, ballot clutched in your hot little paws, how many doors will have been kicked in by SWAT teams looking for guns? How many families butchered because the cops didn’t feel safe? Will you sit back and tolerate such atrocities while you wait for a Republican to ride in on a white horse? Or will you act?
Be thinking about it. All other questions are immaterial, and time is running out.
Murphy is simply a soccer mom, his stance is so lame it really doesn’t merit a reply, But, ol’ Jim here, he can’t help himself.
Murph, how many of these mass murderers were NRA members?
Though so, next question…
Why is having NRA involved in this race any different than having one sponsored by , let’s say a swimming pool manufacturer? More people are killed annually in pool accidents, Murph..
Just to make your day, how about the Army, Marine sponsored race cars?? Once you limit THEM to 10 rounds we’ll talk, for now please FOAD you piece of communist crapola!
Why even have these shows? The “Talking head” who’s “invited” Pratt to talk on his show does NOTHING but talk over him. It’s not a court room you moron.
I’m tickled that CNN is second to FOX news every time I pull up the Nielsen ratings.
Probably not too terribly helpful to you, but I arranged my purchases through armslist.com, and I kept the entire email exchange leading up to the actual transaction; there is no documentation of the actual exchange of cash for firearm. Probably not binding, but hopefully enough to cast reasonable doubt that I am the perpetrator of a previous crime using that firearm.
IMO, better than having “registered” the gun through an FFL.
