Guncrafter Industries' Frag 1911 (courtesy

Guncrafter Industries are best known for their 50GI model. That would be a 1911 that fires a bespoke .50 GI caliber round. Needless to say, the Danish-born Arkansas gunmaker can’t live on strangely-calibered high-end pistols alone. So, continuing the military motif, Mr. Zimmerman has created the Frag. No, it’s not a gun designed to shoot senior officers. Nor is it the nickname for the ill-fated muppet show. The Frag was named for the gun’s checkering, inspired by the MK2 Pineapple “fragmentation” grenade. The $3285 Frag’s matching grips compliment the front strap. Not to coin a phrase, it’s the bomb. You can order the gun in several finishes (or even just one) to create a durable and functional package that you can use every day and hand down to the next generation of enthusiasts in your family. The “Frag” is available in both 5” Government, and 4.25” Commander sized configurations in your favorite 1911 calibers— other than the 50GI.

    • Can’t find it on their site, but if it’s priced like their other models, somewhere north of $2K. The cheapest 1911 they have is $2700.

    • $3300 for a 1911 with some unique grips?!
To all 1911 owners: If this appeals to you, I will gladly stick some plastic grips in a waffle maker and send them to you for the low low price of $1200. I will include a FRAG airbrush template for your slide at no additional cost.
Act now and I’ll include a gold spray paint kit so you can match those monstrosities from SHOT.

      • Yeah charging $3300 for a 1911 with a fancy grip and that shoots a weird caliber just doesn’t seem like a good deal to me. Of course I’m perpetually broke…. so maybe I’d be more excited if I had the money to throw around.

    • I’d question how one could objectively justify three times the cost of a normal handgun through quality or, even better, results.

  1. Sorry, I’d never get past the name. For me, frag will always mean killing an officer or NCO with a grenade (which might be justifiable in some circumstances). And if I was going to spend that much on a firearm, I’d be heading back to the post on the Cooper rifles. NEVER for a 1911. And I like 1911s. But not for that price.

      • No kidding.

I really like my SW1911. Even with its Crimson Trace grip, I could have 3 more for the price of this thing. No thanks.

  2. Seriously, 2014 year of the expensive 3k gun no one buys 🙂 It better aim itself for that price.

I guess since the Damascus steel 1911 isnt for sale, someone has to keep trying to be top dog.

EDIT: Maybe for a rifle, not a pistol.

  3. I’m always excited by a “new” hundred year old pistol. I’m almost as excited by a new, plastic, striker fired 9mm pistol. Or a “new” AR-15.

The level of innovation in the firearms industry is astonishing.

  4. Well, if he can manage to sell an $800 pistol with “custom” grips that are worth MAYBE a hundred more for $3300, all the power to him. And I suspect he will sell them–a fool is born every minute. I can see the value in a Cooper rifle or a Blaser–the craftsmanship in the wood is exquisite, but this? I don’t see it. But then, I don’t see the value in any 1911 priced more than $1400 (except for rare antiques).

  5. They should have made a glock .40 with those grips, since they have a reputation of blowing up. To complete the package they should have made it in OD Green.

  6. The 1911 market is getting as bad as the one for black rifles. Another high end 45. Yawn and I am 1911 fanboy. The purist form of the 1911 is the combat pistol. That is $750-$1000 piece. If you spent more money than a Colt you have wasted your money unless you are competitive shooter. The only other reason to spend more is if you are getting an early model.

  7. This entire comment section advertises the outright ignorance or even right out stupidity we have in the firearms world today. It’s called Google, it’s great.

  8. Cost is in the labor mostly, 40+ hours and each part started life as a forged billet slug. Frame and slide included. If you want a hand crafted, full billet handgun this is where to go.
