Kimber is one of the few gunmakers still located in the godforsaken Empire State, which is in the process of banning all magazines with a capacity of more than a pathetic seven rounds. Their 8-round Tac Mags are fantastic, but unfortunately they’re going to turn a lot of Kimber employees and executives into newly-minted felons as soon as Andrew Cuomo signs the new bill into law . . .

So what’s Kimber’s take on this disaster? I stalked their booth this morning and asked them how Kimber is going to comply with the new law, avoid felony charges, and satisfy their customers who expect an 8+1 capacity from their pricy new 1911s. Three times, the answer was “no comment.” I kept getting referred higher up the food chain, but I didn’t have time to wait all morning for a different answer.

I don’t know about you, but maybe it’s time for Kimber to GTFO of NY. Their presence there was a bit of a puzzler before, but it’s almost incomprehensible now.

  1. I bet a lot of gun companies are going to abandon the east coast and Illinois. The only part of the economy that is growing in those states IS the gun industry, so basically they are forcing their economy to go FUBAR.

  2. They would be welcome in the Louisville, KY area (near Fort Knox). Elizabethtown, KY has a Remington R&D facility that seems to be welcome just fine.

  3. Kimber should be one of the few manufacturers that do alright under the new law. If you’re limited to 7 rounds, what else would you carry but a 1911?

  4. Yep, along with the kids in Ilion should be loadin’ up the truck and movin’ to…warmer and hospitable climate.

    • Every time I the the phrase “The Empire State” I hear the music from Star Wars that plays whenever the evil Sith emperor is around.

  5. A Customer Service employee of Kimber is on my Bullseye shooting league. Next time I see her (probably next Thursday) I’ll get her take on things.
There’s a fellow who worked in their Custom Shop who frequented my local range, but sadly, he passed away last week

  6. If gun-owners are calling for calls to boycott Dicks and Cheaper than Dirt then WHY aren’t they calling for boycotting gun makers who are based-in and providing revenue to anti-gun states such as NY, IL, and NJ etc that violate the rights of American citizens to own guns and high capacity magazines?

      • Wrong. NO TRAITOR is “too awesome to boycott.” That sounds like the “to big to fail” nonsense that was the excuse for the bank bailouts. First, NY is now the worst state in the union. Second, this IS something under Kimber’s control. They DON’T HAVE TO GO FAR, to get to a freer state. Believe it or not, there are manufacturers of 1911s that are just as nice as Kimbers.

  7. this countrys leaders are oversteping their authority on so many levels that it is blatantly apparent that they have never read the constitution of the country or the state they are supposed to represent.

  8. Kimber is running out of time before I call for a full blown boycott. They’re not answering their phones (their “press 1 for…” computer is one of the most obnoxious in ANY industry). They provide NO EMAIL on their website. I already get the vibe of elitist snobs from this company. No message on their home page (which would save them thousands of phone calls demanding a statement). Kimber is in the process of doing what S&W did with klinton. All this hiding that Kimber corporate is doing, better produce something DAMN GOOD in the next few days (such as an announcement of leaving NY) or they’re gonna have a PR problem with their entire customer base, and the resulting headache that a pallet of aspirin won’t help.

    • Oh brother. You need to relax a little. Kimber is an amazing company with amazing products. I’m sure they’ll do what they can to deal with the horrible situation that they’ve been put in. I understand you being worked up, but get worked up about the ones that are forcing these laws down our throats, not the reputable companies that we love!

  9. This is a bad for Kimber. A move to Texas would be a great deal for them and all of us. Since I live in Houston, I’ll as them and others during the NRA Convention in May what they plan to do. Will probably get more “no comment”.

  10. I love 1911s, but I will not buy a Kimber as long as they stay in New York. Just purchased a new Sig Sauer 1911 Rounded heel. Nice piece and my every day carry piece. Time for Kimber to move.
