Kel-Tec KS7 and CP33

Back in mid-November I trekked up to Gillette, Wyoming and put hundreds of rounds through a couple new firearms from Kel-Tec, which they’ve now [partially] announced ahead of SHOT Show 2019. The KS7 shotgun is effectively a slimline KSG with a single tube magazine. The CP33 — full review inbound this afternoon — is a .22 LR pistol with a staggering (quad staggered, in fact!) 33-round or 50-round capacity.

In short configuration with 18.5-inch barrel the KS7 holds 7+1 rounds of 2.75-inch, 12 gauge ammo. The top rail is easily interchangeable; seen above with high visibility iron sights inside the carry handle-equipped, M-LOK-equipped top sight channel, or swap that out for a full-length Picatinny optics rail.

Just like the KSG, the KS7 is a pump action, bullpup shotgun that ejects empty shells downwards out from underneath the cheek rest area. Load the tube magazine from that same port. Unlike the KSG, there’s no tube selector since there’s only one tube. The center of balance has also moved rearwards to right over the grip assembly and, of course, the entire shotgun is skinnier.

Extended tubes and longer barrels will be available for competition, sporting, hunting, and other uses. It was fun to crush clays with this tactical-style, bullpup pump shotgun!

Length: 26.1 inches (with 18.5-inch barrel)
Width: 1.9 inches
Height: 9.3 inches
Weight: 5.9 pounds
MSRP: $495

With the long tube, the darn thing held 17+1 rounds of Aguila Minishells!

Over to the CP33 and we find a .22 LR, semi-auto pistol that’s based on Kel-Tec’s CMR-30 carbine. Standard capacity of this bad boy is 33+1 rounds, with an approximately 2-inch magazine extension bringing it up to a whopping 50+1.

With a threaded barrel, full-length Picatinny rail up top, an M-LOK slot under the barrel, and accessory attachment points on each side and at the rear, the CP33 leaves your configuration options wide open.

I absolutely loved shooting the CP33. It has a fantastic trigger, stays flat-as-can-be, suppresses extremely well, has great sights, and is shockingly accurate! Plus, man oh man, that magazine capacity.

MSRP is $475.

More details and shooting impressions in the full review of the CP33, which goes live this afternoon. Watch this space.

    • They will actually make it to the street about the time Feinstein & Schumer get control of the Senate and ban those skeerrry-lookin thangs.

    • If Keltec can actually bring the CP33 to market in any volume more than “one of those came in at X gun shop and we haven’t seen one since”, I think that would be fun to run with my Axiom.

      • That has been Keltec’s problem. Getting enough units produced to actually sell in retail volumes. Otherwise the only units known to exist will be the prototypes used by reviewers.

  1. That 50-round count might work well for states with mag-capacity restrictions. I’m not sure the people voting those infringements in can count that high!

    • We can slip it by them, I’m sure. “One, two, three, four, five, six, fifty, seven, eight, nine, ten. Yup, it’s all good!”.

  2. More ammo is allways better !! I’m not much of a shotgun person , in fact I own 1- Ithaca mod 37 made in 1969. I may have to make it 2 as the KSG seems like a no brainer , double tube with mini shells , like I said , the more ammo the better.

  3. One step closer to a firearm that directly accepts .22 by the brick. Someday we’ll be able to take that Federal 500 box and insert into the gun and go.

  4. Everything about these scream “Mall Ninja!”, yet I can’t help but find the shotgun’s rail, as the youth say, “lit”.

    • Nah, to obtain Mall Ninja status they’d have to triple their prices, get their guns in a bunch of video games, and then treat their customers with absolute contempt for daring to want to buy their products

  5. With all the shotgun shells in the photo you would think the cp33 comes in 12 gauge. Or lights cigars.
Its looks are kinda cool and subgun like, splits the difference between the pmr and cmr.

    • It appears to be a picture snapped by Jeremy himself and not a promotional image from Kel-Tec. Hence the visible brand logo for that fine-ass Rocky Patel Decade.

      • LOL, yeah, there wasn’t a whole heck of a lot of thought put into those pics, if I’m honest haha. I was smoking the cigar cuz it was 8 degrees out and I wanted to smoke a cigar. It was my last chance to get good photos of the CP33. The ground was littered with hundreds and hundreds of empty shotgun shells from shooting the KS7s. I set the gun down, set the cigar down to free my hands up, figured it may as well be in the picture, and took the photos. 🤷

  6. There’s a fairly indepth video of the shotgun up on The Firearm Blog YouTube…the dudes were liking it. Both look OK if KelTec gets their chit together! Honestly thought the little shootie would have a higher MSRP.

  7. I already have the K S G Keltek, love it,,, The K S 7 would look good in my collection also, 17 rounds with the extended tube ,,, cool…!

  8. ……………..and I almost bought another 357 revolver .
KT will get my money if they can provide the products .
Add to my growing KT collection of 11 firearms , but everyone here can name them . I love them all , no regrets .

  9. Pistol will be on my list after it comes out and is proven. It’ll be the only .22 LR of its kind. With it’s size and capacity and the top rail, I could see it becoming a popular competition gun.

I’m intrigued by the KS7. IMO 8 rounds of 12 gauge is plenty for home defense and the second tube for the KSG was basically a super fast reload, but that second tube fattened the width of the shotgun so much. I think this single tube KS7 will be better for people of smaller size (i.e. women, elderly) as it will weigh less and be easier to use.

Now if only Kel Tec would get into making revolvers…

  10. I’ve been waiting for Ruger to steal Kel-Tec’s PMR-30 idea and make it more reliable, more attractive, and in .22lr instead of .22 mag.

Guess I’ll have to buy the Kel-Tec version and hope 1 out of 3 is good enough.

  11. Impressed most by those MSRP’s.

Hopefully these designs function reliably and Kel-Tec can DELIVER THEM reliably and they should be a win.

  12. Is the extended barrel shown in third KS7 picture an official Kel-Tec Product? I see right below it that Kel-Tec will offer one in the future but didn’t know if the prototype is shown. If it is, is it one piece or more of a barrel extension like what exists for the KSG?
