Hoppe’s isn’t just a cologne (or bore cleaner) any more. Vista Outdoor’s just expanded the line with Hoppe’s Gun Medic, a quick shot clean and lube option when you don’t have time for a full wash and wax. Here’s their press release . . .

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas (Feb. 2, 2016) – Hoppe’s, the best-known name in gun care products, releases a new state-of-the-art formula called Gun Medic to help shooters of all disciplines clean and lubricate dirty firearms. Developed for quick use when a deep clean isn’t in the cards, Hoppe’s Gun Medic Cleaner & Lube is a fast-acting, all-in-one product that will clean and lubricate a firearm in one application to quickly get the gun back in action. It’s like having a first aid kit for dirty firearms, eliminating malfunctions caused by buildup of dirt and grime.

When seconds count, Gun Medic products will clean and lubricate a dirty firearm quickly and effortlessly to provide unrivaled performance. The revolutionary formula combines a bio-based lubricant developed for jet turbines with an amazing cleaning agent that scrubs away powder residue and then evaporates in 60 seconds, leaving only the thin coat of the high-performance lube. The lubricant tolerance is an astounding -65°F to 500°F. This cleaner and lubricant combination is loaded into a new high-pressure bottle to blast out dirt and crud. It comes in 4-ounce and 10-ounce sizes.

Filling out the line, Hoppe’s also packages these formulas as standalone offerings. Gun Medic Cleaner is the same quick-fix, bio-based cleaner in the new high-pressure 10-ounce can. Gun Medic Lube comes in an easy-application 2-ounce bottle. Both products are environmentally friendly bio-based formulas.

Hoppe’s, a Vista Outdoor Inc. brand, serves shooters of all disciplines, offering gun care products that meet the rigorous standards established more than 110 years ago. For more information visit www.hoppes.com/gunmedic.

  1. sounds awesome. the high pressure makes me a little weary. seems like if its high pressure its going to empty the can extremely fast just after a few uses. i hope not.

  2. “The revolutionary formula combines a bio-based lubricant…”
    Like Crisco?

They were losing too much revenue to (various brands of) CLP, so they had to act quickly!

… and I bet is doesn’t even smell like Hoppe’s.

  3. New Mossberg 500 owner here. Can one spray #9 aerosol right down the barrel and follow it with the boresnake, or is it best to spray the boresnake only?

    • That’s what I was thinking. Why not just spray with breakfree? Sounds to me like Hoppes gun Medic is just something else to sell. I don’t know, I use EWL Slip 2000. When I’m at the range if I shoot alot I just once in a while give a few squires of Breakfree anyway, doesn’t hurt anything. If I even needed to do that. Usually I shoot around 500 rounds at the range and never had a problem using Slip 2000. I actually use either Mpro7 gun cleaner then for lube I mix Slip 2000 gun grease with EWL 30 or sometimes just EWL 30. Heck lately for cleaner I been using Pro Gold all in one cleaner and lube followed with a bit of EWL 30. I have used almost everything to try as lube and always go back to Slip 2000. Cleaner, whatever I grab when I stick my hand in my drawer.

  4. Hornady One Shot TAP-HD Extreme is probably the best CLP out there. Though I’d like to say I really only use it for it lubricating/protection properties, but for an on-the-field, no access moment, I would use this stuff in a heartbeat. My friend takes it with him whenever he goes on long shooting sessions.

  5. I am not very good at cleaning. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a really good cleaner/lube one time application material that is safe for skin contact?
I am working with froglube and triad, but both require clean and then lube and I would rather go at it with one product.

  6. Used it on my Ruger American pistol 9mm. It stripped the black nitride finish off of the slide. Now I have to spend $ to get it nitrided at ruger. No warning on can about being detrimental to finishes. Waiting on a response from Hoppes.

    • Hoppes has made good with my problem. Excellent customer service with quick replies. I will continue to use Hoppes products, as I have been for yrs now.

  7. Does it work as a copper or lead solvent? Why aren’t these reviews ever containing the basic and pertinent information?

  8. Comment is for MD Matt – I have been cleaning weapons for 40 years. Before cleaning I ensure all ammunition is removed from the weapon and magazines. If a weapon has been fired multiple times and not cleaned, the process described below will have to be repeated until the weapon is clean. I have found the combination of two products quickly removes carbon residue. Both products are economical to use, have almost no oder, and have not harmed my skin. I spray some Rem Oil in a small container and add just enough CLP to turn the mixture a slight yellow color. I dip a nylon tooth brush into the mixture and lightly scrub all the external and internal gun and magazine parts that the brush will reach. I will frequently clean the brush by spraying the brush with a little bit of the Rem oil and CLP and then rub the brush on a rag to clean the brush. I will wipe down the scrubbed parts and re-scrub parts until the cleaning cloth does not show carbon residue. I dip q-tips and pipe cleaners into the cleaning mixture to scrub the hard to reach areas. I repeat the scrubbing of the hard to reach areas until a q-tip or pipe cleaner no longer show carbon. I dip a nylon or brass bore brush attached to a cleaning rod in the cleaning mixture and run the brush through the barrel several times to clean the lands and grooves. I use a jag on the rod to push cleaning patches through the barrel. I repeat the barrel scrubbing until the barrel cleaning patches no longer show carbon. I use a clean cloth, q-tips, and pipe cleaners to remove any excess cleaner. I use a clean q-tip or pipe cleaner to apply a small amount of the cleaning mixture to any metal part that will contact other metal. The cleaning mixture will leave the weapon slightly lubribated until the weapon is fired again.

  9. In a post above, Nick said this product stripped the nitride finish off his Ruger pistol. On what finishes is this safe to use?
(He said Hoppe’s made it right, whatever that means. ???)

  10. DO NOT USE ON ANY FINISH AT ALL!!! Was cleaning a few older guns and everywhere I touched the lacquered finish on casehardened parts the finish bubbled up and flaked off. I’m lucky I noticed it before I touched any of the wood and that it was one of my cheapest guns.
It works better than most stripper products I’ve used. I’ve contacted them about it and I’m sure they will be good about it. But just trying to save somebody some heartache.
