Hey, if “they” only “let” you have a 10-round magazine, why not make every round count? And who doesn’t want that new, taller A2 front sight? Press release:

ArmaLite is proud to announce its AR-10 Law Enforcement Carbine. ArmaLite has long been known for its LE carbines chambered in .223/5.56X45mm NATO. Now comes an LE firearm with the added stopping power of the .308 cartridge . . .

ArmaLite already manufactures well-known, dependable AR-10A2 carbines. They are based on the traditional A2 front sight, A2 upper receiver and permanent carry handle. The AR-10 LE Carbine combines an innovative A2 style front sight with the A4 flat-top upper receiver so popular for its ability to accommodate sights, scopes, lights and other LE accessories.

The new A2 style front sight was designed by ArmaLite’s engineers and is manufactured from forgings here in our factory. The front sight is taller than traditional A2 front sights to account for differences in AR-15 and AR-10 receiver heights. This eliminates any issues of being able to zero your sights when a carry handle or flip up rear sight is used in combination with an A2 style front sight, on your .308 platform.

The result is a spectacular Armalite .308 carbine ready for the toughest LE duty. The 16” barrel is chrome lined chrome moly. The rugged Troy Medieval muzzle brake enhances control and accuracy during rapid fire. It’s tough enough to serve as an improvised breaching device if the situation calls for it.

The ERGO F93 buttstock features a fixed cheek piece for a constant and repeatable cheek weld in any of the eight available stock positions. Once the buttstock is locked into position, the F93 is as rigid as a fixed stock. With a completely adjustable 4” length of pull, this stock gives the shooter plenty of room for fine-tuning the stock to their liking.

  1. I find the name condescending. Am I not good enough to own it unless I’m Billy Badass with a badge stomping on a crackhead’s face and shooting dogs for Amurrika?

    • I have to agree with this sentiment. The entire press release reads as if the reciever is already stamped Law Enforcement/Military Only, as though the AWB has already been passed. Honestly, though, I think it’s just targeted marketing. At least, I hope that’s what it is.

On the other hand, I’m sure plenty of supposedly “legitimate hunters” might be interested in something like this. Assuming they can somehow fit a civillian scope on a rail designed for law enforcement accessories. /sarcasm

  2. Oh great, another gun I can’t have. I’m not a huge fan of AR style guns. But a 7.62 rifle is always a great thing. And if it can be made in .308, why not .243?

  3. Sorry, but since they always want to rail about “Why does someone NEED a scary looking rifle?”, they the hell does a COP need anything in .308? They’re there to arrest criminals, not wage a war.

  4. I use a .308 patrol rifle. Never fired it in anger, and hope I never do. Mine is personally owned, civilian legal and no sales restrictions. Same as anyone else can get.

Ammunition carefully selected to minimize overpenetration. And I have it because every time some lunatic redefines the worst case scenario, I feel I would be negligent if I did not prepare to face it. Think Mumbai, think North Hollywood, think Charles Whitman.

Rifle stays in the car unless something happens that needs a rifle, and gets put back as soon as possible.

  5. If I were to buy an AR style rifle, it would be an AR-10 in .308, but hopefully with a longer and more accurate barrel. 2 to 2.5 MOA? An M1A is far more accurate, the downside being its weight (and cost).

  6. I was interested in an AR-10 for a while, but the magazine issues put me off a bit. ArmaLite uses an M14 modified (heavily modified, in my opinion) magazine. Other AR-10 clones use stock FN/FAL mags or the DPMS/SR25 variant which seem to be growing in popularity with other makers. Magpul makes mags to fit the DPMS/SR25 pattern.

  7. CALLING ALL AR-10 OWNERS! PLEASE JOIN ME IN CALLING AND EMAILING ARMALITE UNTIL THEY OFFER THAT NEW FRONT SIGHT TOWER/GAS BLOCK AS AN AFTERMARKET PART!

In different barrel diameters, too! My AR-10 (LMT) is a faithful tool but bolting a front sight to a top rail is no bueno! This is the first time we’ve had this tower available… let’s give Armalite incentive to offer this part!

  8. LOVE LOVE LOVE my AR-10. Getting magazines for it has been problematic since Mass still his an AWB. 🙁 Other than a double-feeding issue on loading I’m trying to figure out, she’s a nail-driver.

I may have sold one this weekend to a feller on the range, if Armalite can ever make them in quantity again. I apparently got the last one on the east coast last spring. 🙂

  9. “ready for the toughest LE duty”

So, ready to be checked out of the station, locked in a cruiser’s gun rack, drive around 100 miles, then put back in the station at the end of the shift (and maybe taken out occasionally for the 50-round semi-annual qualification)? They would be much better off describing it as tough enough to handle rugged competition shooting. Then again, that would give “civilians” a “legitimate” reason for owning one. Lord knows we don’t want that.

  10. As a Jewess in the US, I can only say that ANY anti-gun plan from an ignoramus
like Slow Joe Biden or his dirty Kenyan boss is bound to be a loser idea.
Certainly it will make all REAL Americans put our 2nd Amendment FIRST! Both
criminals and overbearing governments respect FIREPOWER, not sweet talk. And
remember that America wasn’t won with a registered gun! -Wendy Weinbaum

    • Just out of curiosity, Wendy, why do you describe yourself with a word that is now held to be mildly pejorative, to wit, “Jewess?” Kind of like a black person calling him/herself a “coon.” That you have denominated yourself a “Jewess” makes me doubt that you are either Jewish or female, and impels the speculation that, whatever your ethnicity or religion, you are a bit of an anti-Semite. My suspicions are further fueled by the inference to be drawn from your post, that you are one of those birther nuts, when you refer to Slow Joe Biden’s “boss” as a “dirty Kenyan?” For real?

  11. If I were to acquire an AR style rifle with a mere 10 round capacity, it would be in .458 SOCOM because I’m a glass half empty kind of person.
    If i want a .308 then I’ll have a FAL.
