      • Actually yeah, most people buying or building ARs pay very little attention to the weight they are adding to their rifles, if something looks flashy/cool and above all is cheaper it is likely to beat out a better made product that weighs less but costs a few bucks more.

  1. Hmmm. Heavy, no new features and it appears abortion-like. Sounds like a big cup of NOPE. Hey TTAG, when are yall gonna run a special on TAPCO’s cool offerings too?

  2. For product announcements and reviews, it’d be really nice to know if it’s a U.S. made part for 922(r) purposes. The company is in ID, but that doesn’t mean it was made in the U.S. It could be manufactured elsewhere and then imported.

  3. Ugly or not, It does look sturdier than your average stock. Wonder if it’s rated for .458 SOCOM recoil? Then again, Wilson Combat puts the Rogers stock on their SOCOM builds, but I just can’t believe that CTR-weight stock holds up to .458 recoil too well. I keep dreaming of someone who can make an adjustable stock that can handle all that force without breaking.

    • What’s wrong with a fixed stock? I know it’s usually adjustability or personal preference, but there’s something to be said about simple things working properly… simple as a sledgehammer or a knife.

      • Fixed stocks aren’t great if you’re wearing body armor or in and out of vehicles. Or you’re short. Or your wife/little sister want to fire your rifle. Etc. etc.

It’s a cheap way to get an adjustable length of pull.

        And it’s tacticool operator as !@@# all… 😛

        • DJ, while I agree with the points you have made I’d like to take a moment to quantify the benefits of a simple fixed stock.

          A traditional fixed stock…
          – will not break
          – contains the sought after tacticool storage cubby!
          – is used by men and women Soldiers every day at work
          – doesn’t rattle like a cheap toy
          – will not catch on your clothing/kit as easily as an adjustable
          – stabilizes your shooting platform and evens out the weight from the fore end
          – can handle the recoil from higher calibers
          – is more comfortable to rest your cheek on than some of the cheaper options of the adjustable stocks

An adjustable stock can be removed for storage/transport, is easier to fire for petite personnel or those requiring additional LOP adjustment, is slightly lighter (depending on which one you get), has less storage space (even the ones with the compartments have very little space compared to the fixed stock), has more mounting/sling options, etc.

    • I’d have to guess that, yes, it’s fine on .458 SOCOM as the press release mentions availability with a matching forend for use on shotguns. I would consider this on .458 or, for example, as a replacement for the ATI one that comes on the CZ 712 Practical shotgun. As long as it works on a commercial spec buffer tube, that 712 Practical can accept any shoulder stock out there and this seems like a nice choice for a 12 gauge. (CZ 712 Practical review is a week or two out)

  4. Wait…

    ugly
    heavy
no new features to speak of
outclassed by CTR, vltor clubfoot or B5 systems

    pass.
    pass.

  5. What drew my attention to the stock was the recoil pad. I build all of my guns and have been looking for a stock with a substantial recoil pad for the AR10 platform. Obviously the 5.56 does not need a recoil pad at all and everybody throws in the sarcastic bull crap. The AR15 platform in 5.56 does not need a recoil pad we all get it. Everybody rags a stock before they go out and shoot a 7.62×51 built for weight control. It’s not a pleasant experience to say the least. The typical Magpul stock but pad might as well be made of aluminum.Something like this is a perfect addition to a shooter with a .308 or bigger AR10 and clocks in a good bit of range time with it.
