Oooh, now that’s a cool looking gun. Ed Brown is building some modern flair into their new FX1 models with unique slide serrations and ports, an optics cut, light rail, magwell, and custom finish. Plus, of course, a 9mm 1911 is clearly better than a .45. Ed Brown’s new product announcement and more photos follow . . .

The FX1 is our most innovative and cutting-edge 9mm to date! The new FX1 slide cuts package and American flag rear serrations create an impressive display of ingenuity and craftsmanship. Decked out with a lightrail, new FX1 Snakeskin frontstrap treatment, one-piece magwell, recessed slide stop with serrated pin, and flush barrel with recessed crown, the FX1 is truly a one-of a kind pistol. Our latest finish options are put on display with this model; Industrial: a modern brushed stainless finish, and Dirty Olive Gen4: a two-color process that creates unique, urban look. All hand built with fully machined parts, completely customizable and backed by our Lifetime Warranty.

    • It’s not upside down. You’re looking at it sideways. I believe it’s right-side-up when carried.

Looks nice. But I’d much rather they go whole hog and make a not-1911 1911 like Robert’s EDC X9.

      • Gotcha. It’s only half the flag. Have to do it that way to get the proper gripping surface. Don’t think I dig it. I do like the way the rest of it looks but not a fan of extra holes in the slide.

  1. I have a Kobra carry I bought new. The grip safety had issues. Their customer service is unimpressive at best. They charge a flat fee to send the gun back to them. Go with nighthawk or Wilson or another high end maker. I would not buy another Brown again. With that said they make gorgeous super accurate guns, I love mine but ive now paid as much for it as if I bought a new nighthawk……

    • Now this is some good information. Thanks for sharing, as someone is looking at purchasing their first high-end custom 1911. Do you have any information to share about your Ed Brown ownership experience, or any of the other manufactures? Personally I am leaning towards a Nighthawk for my first custom 1911. Thanks.

    • No, but the good custom ones (not Cabot) are actually hand made and hand tuned. So, in practical terms, a $5,000 Wilson Combat 1911 is not going to be 5 times better than a $1,000 Sig 1911. Probably not even twice as good. However, a perfectly tuned 1911 is ultimately a work of art, and can only be appreciated as art rather than as a gun

    • Not to mention all the people who need to go be poor somewhere else.

“But mah hipoints will kill you just as dead…”

If you don’t understand why some people want to drive an old Ford Taurus and some people want to drive a Maserati then you won’t understand this either. It’s not just about function, this is all about form and cachet and sex.
