“The danger presented by downloadable guns is magnified by the fact that many of these guns can be printed entirely in plastic, so metal detectors won’t catch them. As school administrators around the country consider what they can do to keep students safe — including, in some schools, installing metal detectors — this is another reminder that we need our elected leaders to be partners in the work of keeping our kids safe.” – Diana Haneski in I Survived Parkland And I Have An Urgent Message For Congress On 3D-Printed Guns [via bustle.com]

  1. A new gun shucked out of my printer in an hour? No background checks? Undetectable by busybody government officials? I only wish the reality was as awesome as the fantasy.

  2. if only cynthia plaster caster had had a 3d printer at the zoo equine house, this woman would be first in line.

  3. 3D printed knives are the bigger threat. Undetectable, silent, easier and faster to print, easier to conceal.
The only thing more dangerous would be the 3D printed rock. Don’t even need renderings to make one of those. Or a proper printer for that matter.
Why are there so many stupid people walking around?

    • “Why are there so many stupid people walking around?”

Because the jury is still out on the question of whether intelligence is a useful survival characteristic or not. Nature seems to prefer teeth and claws. 🙂

      • “Nature seems to prefer teeth and claws.”

Don’t underestimate other “Natural attributes” to survivability.

        *Wink-nudge*-*Wink-nudge*… 😉

      • It’s actually extremely useful, hence mankind’s status. The paradox is that once enough smart people build the tools, infrastructure, and civic systems for a stable society even dumb as rocks people benefit and procreate.

    • Our society has made it very safe for stupid people to stay alive.
Law suits are a great example. The stupid can sue you because they need written label instructions and don’t have common sense.

  4. As Candace Owens has pointed-out, there are two types of Liberals: one type is ignorant and the other is just evil. The ignorant ones cannot think for themselves and the evil type knows perfectly well that Socialism does not work and the other type is stupid and easily controlled by a continuous stream of lies and misinformation. Guess which type this Haneski person is? HINT: it must be one type or the other, there’s no cross over.

Now those 3D printed Blow Guns and Poison Darts…

  5. To see stupid and evil leftists you need only look in the prisons, or at the average college professor.

Edit, perhaps I should have said education professional!

  6. A lot of media outlets have credited this woman with saving 55 lives at MSDHS. Too bad she couldn’t have been everywhere there to tell people to lock doors and hide, she would have saved everyone;-)

  7. The lack of facts and truth are a hallmark of the Left, there would be no orthodoxy remaining if facts were entered into.

  8. “I did everything that I was trained to do as a librarian” Really? Are you actually a trained librarian? Or are you just a high school version of a WalMart greeter? If you are, in fact, a librarian, you should have the skills and knowledge, along with better access than most, to research and access the factual information available to formulate an honest opinion on this or any subject for that matter. Much of what you claim is utter nonsense and fearmongering not unlike yelling “fire” in a crowded theater. Your opinion is uninformed and therefore not honest.

Neither Trump nor anyone in his administration had anything to do with the decision. It was a decision of the Judicial system, separate from the powers of the President. And that court decision was not ” to allow a private company to distribute blueprints online” it was to prevent some entity from blocking the legal distribution of publicly accessible information by this individual and his private company. Information, mind you, that I and anyone else( including felons and domestic abusers — as well as terrorists and drug cartels and school children) can access at your library legally and could have for more than 5 years.

  9. Those in the gun world know that a printed lower receiver in tuere current state of technology is not up to snuff (at least on a modest civilian level) in comparison to a %80 or even a private sale lower that also cannot be traced to you, the idea they think they can go through metal detectors and still be a viable weapon shows they are purposely ignoring common sense. The only reason there on this kick is cause it’s fresh. Would you shoot a completely plastic weapon?

  10. “I survived Parkland,” she says. Guess what, lady? Almost everyone survived Parkland.

You’re neither unique nor special. The unique ones are the few who were actually shot at. And being shot at doesn’t make them special; it just makes them unlucky.

Crusading on your proximity to someone else’s tragedy makes you a leech. A parasite. An amoral opportunist. An emotional carpetbagger.

And it’s no surprise that this lady is a librarian; a profession that swells the ranks of the unjustifiably self-satisfied and consists largely of hidebound professor manques presiding over shelves full of knowledge they’re too dim to understand.

  11. I was actually going to leave a comment on original article in Bustle, but I don’t see anywhere to leave comments there. Anyone? Bueller?

    • There are so many outright falsehoods on the 3d printing issue that the gun control lobby prefers to place them in sites with no comments

  12. librarian at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida

So she was in the LIBRARY at the time of the shooting NOT in the Freshman Building. Good “surviving” fatty. Even HEAR any of the shots?

    From their website:
    Book Donation Policy

We sincerely welcome gifts and donations in the form of materials or monetary funds. All donations are reviewed according to the collection and development policy and must meet the same criteria as all other items. Books not accepted for the collection will be disposed of in a manner determined by the library. The use and disposal will be at the discretion of the LMS in the interest in maintaining an appropriate and balanced collection.

The donation should meet the following criteria before adding to the collection.
◦The offered items are within the scope of the library’s collection and their use falls within the stated library mission.
◦The library has enough time and resources to process and maintain the offered items.
◦The item does not unnecessarily duplicate materials already held.
    ◦The item’s condition is acceptable.
◦The library has space to store the donated items.
◦The item is supportive of the school’s curriculum or interests of faculty and students and is on an appropriate elementary school academic level.

Anyone thing they would add 1000 (or 1) book on the Constitution or Gun Rights? Perhaps the NRA, Mr. Boch and his associates can help them out.

  13. Could someone find this woman’s email address for me? I’d like to personally point out some glaring faults in her logic.

1: A 3D printed gun still has to have a metal cartridge. While there are plastic cartridges out there, they are very rare and hard to find. The gun might make it past a metal detector, but not the ammunition.

2: The gun she is referring to, the Liberator, is a single shot pistol, inspired by the FP-45 Liberator intended for use in WWII. It, like it’s predecessor, is a gun to get a gun. The FP-45 was designed to be dropped into occupied territory and picked up by a resistance fighter. They would then sneak up on a German soldier, shoot them, then take their gun and ditch the Liberator.

3: Trying to shoot up a school with a Liberator would be like trying to shoot up a school with a derringer. A very big, very clunky, very unreliable derringer that is only good for a few shots before it would explode.

4: As stated above, 3D printed knives can be far more deadly in the right hands, though really, many pens and pencils can be used as stabbing implements. It’s one of the main reasons why, realistically, you would never see a vampire attacking a school. So many little wooden stakes.

  14. And this person is a teacher?….No wonder kids are dumber than a bag-o-hammers….Best thing you can do for your kids is keep them out of public schools…This is the mentality that has your child for hours and hours every day, every week, every month, and every year…
