Little David Hogg and his merry band of teenage civilian disarmament advocates still have a lot of work to do. According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, the National Rifle Association is still held in high regard by a solid majority of Americans.
You might think that after the media-enabled pounding the NRA’s taken since the Parkland massacre, they’d be the most hated organization in the US of A. Au contraire, mon frere.
The poll found that the NRA is still seen in a positive light by a solid 54% of Americans. To no one’s surprise, men have the highest regard for the nation’s oldest civil rights organization, with more than 58% percent approval rating. More surprising is the number for women, who, when polled, generally take a dimmer view of firearms and tend to favor more gun control legislation. But Reuters/Ipsos showed that even 51.4% of women have a positive view of the NRA.
One important caveat. The poll was taken between February 12 and March 12. That period included almost a sold month of the civilian disarmament industrial complex pushing their anti-NRA agitprop. But that was three weeks ago. The March for our Lives didn’t happen until March 24, and a lot more anti-gun artillery has been hurled at the NRA since then.
Still, it just goes to show that reports of the NRA’s demise have always been greatly exaggerated. David “Camera” Hogg and his fellow moppets have sold a lot of guns since Parkland. We’d guess they’ve also managed to sell a lot of new NRA memberships, too. Thanks, Dave.
They’ve done more harm than good as far as the center goes. The dust is all but settled on Parkland and what they’ve accomplished is showing the most rabid anti’s that it’s okay to let your freak flag fly and they’ve outed a handful of RINO’s. Can’t forget the new members.
Overall I feel like this is going to net a win for us. More anti’s will be out chanting “repeal the 2nd!” so the meme that nobody is after the guns is dead and gone and the RINO’s are being hammered for what they’ve done in such a way that future betrayals will be deterred.
I’m a lifelong cynical pessimist and this potential optimistic outlook feels good. Or, I’m a fool in denial.

The “center”, as you say, isn’t really that concerned about guns… a fact woefully forgotten by the RINOs that have thrown the People of the Gun under the wheels in the past few weeks. They don’t really vote for or against guns, the true Bigots will but they are far outnumbered by the PotG who absolutely WILL vote accordingly.
RINOs beware – we have long memories and do not forgive easily.

On another matter, I wish people would take a history lesson and stop with the “RINO” crap. The Republicans never were a conservative party excpet for RR and Goldwater before him, they always supported the New England progressive movement that has blossomed in places like CT, NJ, NY, etc. The conservative party was the southern democrats, along with the ag people who didn’t fall into the communist doctrine in ND, MN, etc. Although I am a registered Republican and have sat on our county’s central committee for decades, I’ve never expected them to be conservatives just because they run as an “R”. I’ve always fought on the committee to trun them into conservatives.
Maybe we should start calling them “Conservatives In Name Only (CINO)?” The other problem with American political semantics is the use of “liberal” and “progressive” for people who are illiberal and regressive, because they think being ruled over by a Nazi-like police state is “progress” and believe in applying government “solutions” (screw-ups) liberally instead of defending liberty (the correct meaning of a “liberal” person).
Yup, and have demonstrated that gun owners still believe we need to stay reserved, calm, (hidden) in public if we want to make progress. The liberal agitator groups probably have lower poll numbers…but they also just got a bunch of laws passed in Florida, cementing it as yet another anti-gun population center to spring-board into new markets, and gave a whole new generation of mush-heads something to look back upon fondly for decades to come.

I think Gorsuch would have a field day with it. Lots to attack, maybe even the Chevron Deference (one of his favorites), but it has to get to him first.
I think there is something in the proposed regulation for each of the Justices to attack, even the Liberals.
Chevron Deference is the only reason anyone takes the ATF Tech Branch seriously. They’d be rubber-stamping paper-pushers, otherwise.
Lifestyle reform movements, which is what the gun-control movement is, survive or fail on their ability to convince a majority of people that the behavioral changes they desire are right and proper. The interesting thing about gun-control activism is that each major organized push paradoxically results in increased public support for gun-rights. The NRA’s membership is expanding exponentially, gun-sales (especially AR-15s) are at record highs, more people are going to gun ranges, and concealed carry license applications are at an all time high. The gun-control movement is showing increasing frustration at their relative lack of success in persuading more Americans to support their cause and, as a result, the movement is now becoming increasingly shrill and radical. Gun-control activists are now openly demanding gun-confiscation as a national policy. These kinds of coercive reform demands usually signal that the movement has failed in it’s attempt to gain support through assimilation. Despite their best efforts, the American public ain’t buying what they’re selling. Guns up.

It’s. Not. About. Bumpstocks. It’s ultimately about arbitrarily changing the rules/laws. It’s about making rules/laws that in no way accomplish anything of benefit to law abiding citizens. It’s about making rights subject to the feelings of the distraught few.

Finally, someone who’s on the right track. There are quite a few who would support this but it’ll take a lot of effort by small groups and individuals working together across the nation to make it grow into a movement that can be supported by NRA. Right now, put to a vote of the entire country, I doubt repealing NFA would gain 15% support of all voters, putting money into such a campaign would be pouring it down a rathole. No worthwhile organization would waste its contributors money this way. Build the support from the grassroots up. It’ll never happen with a bunch of screeching zealots threatening good people. Of course GOA and NAGR would support it now, but they don’t have money nor political capital.

Yeah, and ever notice the bomb throwers never let you know who they’d support or what they’d do that would change public perception positively to our favor? (Well, a bunch advocate assassinating public officials or taking over gov’t buildings, to which I’d want to be able to sell tickets.) They just take cheap shots from the shadows.
I will tell you what I would change about the NRA: stay focused on gun rights and stop the attacks on climate science and socialism. Regardless of how you feel about either, each turns off some and distracts from what I pay the NRA to do.

Today, I was deleting the many pages of email subscriptions to TTAG from over the years and I ran across this post by me from 2013. (I have been involved in rights advocacy for many decades.) For all of the compromisers, appeasers, cowards, and Tories who wanted to cry “troll” or keyboard commando or “doing nothing because” … For those POTG who are genuinely misguided or have a difference of opinion on compromise and “optics”… This will NOT be won incrementally. It is a practical impossibility. Every blessed time that you even consider advocating for ANY infringement, please re-think it very carefully. Look how far some POTG have come on open carry. I know what I have seen and experienced over the decades. Enough POTG need to understand the culture war on ALL individual rights and wake up today or our free society is toast. Shall not be infringed, if you want to be free. Anyone advocating otherwise is either misguided or selling you a load of dangerous bullshit.

Changing rules/laws is a benefit, that is designed to detract from years of failed illogical (progressive) policies. Communism good, disagree suffer the fascist backlash, being championed by our indoctrinated children. Guns, guns, guns, alone are inanimate and require a malfunctioning human to trigger carnage.
