The Missouri chapter of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) has issued a “travel advisory” for members traveling through Missouri. “The advisory means each [black] individuals should pay special attention while in the state of Missouri and certainly if contemplating spending time in Missouri.” cnn.com reports that . . .

The advisory was issued after Senate Bill 43 — which makes it more difficult for employees to prove their protected class, like race or gender, directly led to unlawful discrimination — passed through the Missouri Legislature in June. Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens signed it into law soon after. Greitens and other supporters of the bill have said it puts Missouri’s standards for lawsuits in line with other states.

To justify the race-baiting PR stunt warning, the NAACP advisory also lists racially motivated crimes in the Show-Me State and racial bias [allegedly] revealed by MO’s traffic stop stats. And then there’s history!

Race, gender and color based crimes have a long history in Missouri. Missouri, home of Lloyd Gaines, Dredd Scott and the dubious distinction of the Missouri Compromise and one of the last states to loose (sic) its slaveholding past, may not be safe.

So what does the NAACP recommend for people of color travelling through Missouri? “They should tell their relatives if they have to travel through the state, they need to be aware,” Missouri NAACP Chapter Conference President Rod Chapel Jr. told CNN. “They should have bail money, you never know.”

Clearly that advice is designed for people of color falsely arrested by the police (presumably due to racial bias). But what of racially motivated assaults? Shouldn’t the NAACP advise its members to tool-up to defend their lives and the lives of their loved ones?

Maybe so — but recommending armed self-defense would go against the national organization’s stance on gun control:

The NAACP has advocated for a number of sane, sensible gun laws which will do a lot to eliminate the damage caused by gun violence. Specifically, we are calling for a permanent, nation-wide ban on the sale, transfer, importation, and manufacturing of all high-powered military style semi automatic assault rifles and pistols (assault weapons) and the ammunition clips; a federal law requiring universal background checks for all gun purchases; and that the federal government do more to require states and federal agencies to submit information about disqualified individuals, including mentally ill and other dangerous people for inclusion in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

We have opposed and continue to work against legislation which would restrict states’ ability to control who may and may not carry a concealed weapon within their borders, undermine the ability of police to verify the validity of gun permits, and allow gun traffickers to more easily bring illegal guns into their respective states.

So when it comes to protecting against racial attacks by the state or individual racists, the NAACP recommends bail not bullets. Good luck with that.

  1. All gun control laws disproportionately affect minorities. That makes supporters of gun control, and in this case the NAACP, supporters of racism.

  2. I regularly travel from VA to NJ to see my 96 year old Dad. I pass through MD and DE going up 13. 11 trips in the past year so far with our new 2016 Sonata Limited. No bumper stickers, no nothing. Just a plain Jane silver car. Next time I’m going to load up the car with all of my unused 2A related stickers, hats, the like. Haven’t been pulled over in 20 years. Will let you know how that goes. Any odds?

    My point? How about the NRA issues Extreme Travel Warning – East of the Mississippi and North of the Mason-Dixon line.

      • (sigh) Bullshit. Then as now. But because of that crappy article it will never go away.

        1) There is no database for MD cops to see if you have a PA carry license (issued by counties). So no, the driver’s assumption (entirely without evidence) was wrong.
        2) If there WAS, MD cops would have to stop pretty much every PA driver and search them. Doesn’t happen.
        3) Dude was stopped for speeding like everyone else on that bridge
        4) His wife told the cop she thought there was a gun in the glove compartment… there’s the reason for the search.

        I should copy this somewhere so I don’t have to rewrite it every week when someone brings up that load of bull

      • One blog (the one you linked) links to another blog (conservativetreehouse) that makes a bunch of unsourced statements. In later articles they make it clearer that the ‘possible scenario’ they are presenting “MAY” have happened.

        Thousands of PA drivers with permits drive through MD every day. The idea that carry holders are getting ‘hits’ on license plate readers and being pulled over is nuts. The guy got pulled over for speeding (71/55mph zone). His wife told the cop she thought he had a gun in the glove compartment. Don’t do those things.

  3. To the NAACP’s Missouri travel advisory I will add a parental advisory: Don’t send your children to the University of Missouri. Not even for a visit.

  4. As long as they don’t go to St. Louis or Kansas City they should be fine. In those cities, like others controlled by democrat people of color, they are more likely to be killed by other people of color, hood rats, gang bangers, etc., that could care less about their rights, civil or otherwise.

    • The KKK was and is a terrorist organization. The NAACP does not burn crosses on people’s lawns, plant bombs in white churches, or burn universities to​the ground.

    Because I don’t. I haven’t found such a phrase in any of our country’s founding documents either.

    • So that bit in the Declaration of Independence that “all men are created equal” (except for women and slaves) doesn’t do it for you? Well, you are not alone–which is why it is in the 14th Amendment.

      • The Declaration of Independence, while an important road map to our Country’s foundation, is a proclamation, not a legal document in the broad sense. So it doesn’t have a direct correlation or link to the need for the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

        Now the preamble of the U.S. Constitution does indeed state “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” Yes, We the People.

  9. The Show Me State chapter should isdue a warning relevant to the level of violent crime and homicidr in the City of St. Louis. The “Lou” consistently leads the nation in homicide rates, the majority of the victims and perpetrators being the NAACP’s constituents.

  10. To sum up the NAACP’s two statements.

    “The government should heavily regulate firearms laws all but eliminating private ownership and the police should have final say regarding who owns and carries firearms.”

    “Please be aware that the government of Missouri (and by extension the entire southern half of the audited States) & their police agencies are deeply racist and would just as soon shoot you and leave your corpse in the street to rot.”

    Yeah, that makes a heck of a lot of sense because it isn’t as if one statement invalidates the other or anything.

From the Missouri Highway Patrol website on crime, in 2016, arrested for murder, 204 arrests, or 58.45% of those arrested, were “Black or African American – Adults.” The same site reports 58.69% of murder victims are “Black or African American – Adults”. “Black or African American- Juveniles” comprised 4.11% of those murdered in 2016.

    For robberies, 52.91% of robberies were committed by “Black or African American – Adults,” and 14.38% by “Black or African American – Juveniles.”

    To be fair, you are more likely to be raped, assaulted, and burgled by “White – Adults” in Missouri, so pick your poison.

    One final note, more robberies take place on the highway, by a huge margin, than at convenience stores and homes – 46.8% to 4.62% and 18.19% respectfully. So the NAACP should warn travelers to be careful on the highways, know who commits murders and robberies, and who is most likely to be a victim of murder or robbery.

  12. Carry a wad of cash in case you need bail money??? Doood–the cops find a wad of cash and they will immediately confiscate it as “drug money”, and then you have to prove (months later) that it isn’t. But it sure as heck ain’t gonna get you outta jail!

    • Just for perspective, there are at least three times as many gun owners as Blacks in America, and gun owners are actually persecuted by law.

    I wonder how the percentage of blacks shot by police in MO stacks up to the percentage of blacks shot in Baltimore or Chicago.

Part of what prompted the advisory was the governor’s signing of Senate Bill 43 (which becomes law on Aug. 28) and rolls back protections in the workplace for employees who’ve been discriminated against based on their age, ancestry, color, disability, sex, religion, race or nation of origin. Additionally, it strips protections from workplace whistleblowers. We actually had a state rep stand on the House floor and say homosexuals aren’t human. The issues are not limited to people of color. The bill was covered fairly extensively by Missouri news outlets since session began in January, so folks who live here should be aware of it.

    As for the argument that the bill brings our state laws into line with federal law and other states, that is a complete lie. No other state explicitly prohibits liability against individuals and most states allow the bad actor to be named in a lawsuit. It is also makes us the only state in the nation to reduce protections in cases of housing or public accommodation discrimination. Those who supported this bill have used misleading talking points as a smoke screen for what they have actually done which is reduce protection from unlawful discrimination in our state and let the bad actors off the hook. (Not to mention the complete gutting of our whistleblower protections, which have been in the common law since before we entered the Union.)

    • Considering black men comprise 6% of the population, but are responsible for 88% of the violent crime, I think we all know who is the real threat, and who are the real racists.

      Rolls back. LOL… it changes it from “contributing factor” to “motivating factor”, mean that it actually played a role in the discrimination instead of it may have been a part of the reason it happened. What happened to actually proving something happened? Just because something bad happened to a group means that we just make up for it by saying that something could have been involved? That’s like saying that alcohol could have been involved when a group of guys had a gang bang with a girl.

  15. This a purely political stunt and yes, it is a racist stunt! Missouri is my adopted home state. I’ve lived here for ten years and love it because it is one of the freest states in the Union! That includes a lack of white racism. I’m from the Deep South. Trust me when I say the vast majority of white Missourians are not racists and we do not tolerate it either! HOWEVER, the NAACP is a racist organization which is why no self-respecting conservative African-American is a member! The Left is the root and source of ALL racism in the US today. After all, as Liberals put it, minorities are unable to support themselves and are not able to hold well-paying jobs which is why the Left wants to take care of them from the cradle to the grave! On the other hand, Conservatives and our organizations seek true equality! We hate racism which is why we do not get along with most liberals!

Staying away from people and places like that has worked well for me. They need to lock away human trash like that……and the NAACP will make sure that will never happen. No Justice, No Peace

    • Actually I saw an interesting article about how Hilter modeled his political tactics and theories after the Jacksonian democrats!

  17. As a citizen who lives in Missouri part time, I’m fine with the black chaps staying away from Missouri. St. Louis County is a cesspool of crime mostly committed by blacks. So please, stay away!

    • You mean North St Louis County? Sure. South? Puhhlease. Let alone West. Sure blacks commit a disproportionate amount of crime everywhere in the US, but most of the black people in West County, moved out here to get away from the bad guys. While some percentage might be a bit “country”, they’re generally good people in my experience.

      Perhaps you meant St. Louis City. (Where the crime is mainly North, sometimes West and South).

      Just sayin’….

  18. Slavery ended 152 years ago and they’re still going on about it. Are the descendants of slaves here in the USA better or worse off than their relatives still in places like the Congo, Liberia etc? Slavery ended a long time ago, it’s time to stop beating that drum and move on.

  19. The NAACP is a white funded group with black faces on their literature. Decades ago they did very important work defending the civil rights of black people. Now they are a very wealthy group of black socialist progressives who think like white communists. These sellout blacks would rather see blacks disarmed and the white police who they call racist, be the only ones with guns.

    Racist white (liberal) people are not generally a physical threat. But racist white (liberal) people are a moral threat to the black family. They support homosexual marriage but not heterosexual marriage, making it illegal to be married, within the Welfare Industrial Complex. They support gun free zones in public housing projects.

    As a black gun owner the first civil rights group I joined was the JPFO, after hearing Aaron Zelman speak about racist gun control history on a conservative talk radio station. And latter I joined the NRA. The NAACP is a front group for international white socialism.
    I travel to the Show Me State all the time and the people there are polite and very helpful.
