For months, we’ve been saying that the NRA needs a new face. Well, at least I’ve been saying it. Having an old fat white guy as your spokesman in today’s political environment does you no favors. But who’d be a good addition? Who would be the perfect spokesman for the “new” NRA? The answer we’ve been coming to again and again — Mr. Colion Noir. And, as if they heard our cries, he’ll be working for NRA News. As far as I’m concerned, it couldn’t have happened soon enough. The big question: will the powers that be keep their mitts out of the editorial process? Will the MCN we all know and love still be MCN? Stay tuned.

      I hope it’s not too late. Like Dutch says above, I hope he can join us in Denver on Monday when the state senate will be listening to ignoring public testimony about the gun-owner control bills in Colorado.

        Also, I’m not a huge fan of watching videos (frequently too slow-paced and/or annoying, which leads to impatience…) but this one was very, very cool.

        I thought it was particularly interesting when they showed the seriously pro-grade lighting and production setup that makes his editorial footage look so damn good.

        • I’m all in favor of this publicity ploy until Huffypo’s intrepid meatpuppets take a day to suss out this guy’s ‘Noir’ pseudonym and find out he’s got “character issues”. Then it’ll have all the cred of Ice-T being on L&O SVU or PoofDiddly speaking against getting high.

          Cripes he coulda at least gone with “Jefferson” or “Washington” or something. Who the eff doesn’t get the ‘Noir’ thing? Like he’s got a birth certificate with that on it…

      • And Colion will be in a position to challenge her to a public conversation on TV to backup her claim, no, she wont be that stupid, but here is to hoping!

  13. So we speak and the NRA listens? How ’bout that. And don’t think that Collins was easy to get, because he’s his own industry. Yet another reason to join the NRA or if you’re already a member, to send them a check.

    • With a note thanking them for doing this, and suggesting that it should only be the start of some much-needed updating.

      • I was already a member, but did write and thank them with words to that effect. Also thanked Mr. Noir on his site pages.
        And after telling many friends, one just wrote to inform me that he finally joined the NRA, and he let them know that adding Mr. Noir was his deciding reason.

    • If the NRA was real opposition, instead of controlled opposition, then WLP would not be its public face and voice. In that vein, what better way to control true opposition than to invite it to dinner?

      Saying we should support the NRA because it’s the biggest, baddest advocate for the 2A is like saying Budweiser is obviously better than [insert smaller beer company of choice] because it sells 100x as much beer.

      I disagree. The NRA has never had real competition in the advocacy arena and as a result it is slow, complacent, out of touch and determined to appease the status quo in DC. For now it remains a bunch of OFWGs and FUDDs, notwithstanding the affiliation of Mr. Colion Noir.

      I hope to be proven wrong. I hope be as wrong about the NRA as others have been in predicting Obama’s active efforts at gun grabbing.

      • Say what you want about the NRA, but they are not a bunch of Fudds. They purged essentially all Fudds from their leadership a long time ago.

        If they were a bunch of Fudds, they wouldn’t be fighting AWBs and “high capacity” magazine bans.

  18. About time. I was wavering on whether or not to upgrade to a NRA Life Membership given a couple of less than stellar Mr. LaPierre media performances. This addition shows that they aren’t stuck in 1982. I am now on board.

    • Since his “You might be a gun nut” video ends with “You pick your presidential candidate based on his gun control stance” I think we are safe from that.

      • Obama was not for gun control for his entire first term. In fact, he did more to relax gun control laws than anything. History as a Chicago politician notwithstanding, there was effectively no way to know that Newtown was going to happen and blow up into the gun control frenzy it did. Who knows, without Newtown maybe it wouldn’t have happened at all. The only real basis anyone had to vote against Obama on the basis of gun control in 2012 was simply the fact that he was a Democrat. Lots of gun owners are Democrat.

        On the issue of Mr. Noir voting for Obama… who knows. The bottom line is that Romney and the Republican party represent the interests of pretty much no blacks, or any minorities at all, ever. Black people didn’t vote for Obama with 98% margins “just because he’s black”. They voted for him because Democrats actually represent issues relevant to black people – social equality, social mobility, and yes, benefits programs. The Republicans are much closer to a racist organization than not, and parading Hermann Cain around doesn’t change that. If he voted for Obama, I wouldn’t blame him for doing so. One party is against gun control, but cares about social issues relevant to minorities. The other is against gun control, but will basically throw minorities under the bus. This guy is in the unfortunate position of being a gun owner and a minority. There’s pretty much nobody who represents his interests whatsoever.

          LOTS of them did. LOTS of them. LOTS of videos out there with interviewers asking black folks (who appeared to be from all walks of life, I might add. They didn’t all look, talk, or act uneducated or ghetto fabulous.) after the 2008 election why they voted for Obama. Some came right out and said “because he’s a brother.” Others had no real answer at all, or said something like “because it’s exciting.” But most telling were the videos I saw where they attributed McCain’s platforms and statements to Obama, and the interviewees ate that shit up. They had no idea what his positions on the issues were, but “if Obama fo’ it, I’m fo’ it.”

    As a new face of the NRA, Mr. Noir upsets the stereotypes that some people are comfortable with hating.

  26. Hear hear. My problem with the NRA leadership is not that they’re white, but that they’re so establishment. I always look forward to getting AR, but then I read yet another article about some rich Rotarian showing off his $75,000 collectible 1851 Navy and I’m like, “what am I doing in this organization?” Bully for the rich collector, but I thought the NRA was about having a voice and energizing the grassroots.

    Now cue the MSM accusations that Mr. Colion Noir (and what is a “colion” anyhow?) is a stooge or Uncle Tom. Don’t worry. We love you.

    • I already got the “Uncle Tom” statement when I posted this video in another forum. Some people are comfortable with hating the old stereotype. They don’t want to see Mr. Noir as a real NRA type.

      • Never forget the racist origins of the gun control movement. The Democratic Party seeks to keep the Black Man in “his place”.

        Republicans don’t have a “place” for people to be kept.

  43. Indeed! This is a wise move & most needed. NOW if the NRA would just run some of these commercials during Prime Time NATIONAL TV.

    • May be the only smart thing they are doing (the NOT running ads thing). National ads cost a boatload of money. National ads also reach a demographic that is strongly pro-2A. If the NRA wants to become relevant to more than its current membership it needs to craft more effective messages and develop more effective ad campaigns.

      This does not need to cost money. It does, however, require creative thinking and use of modern technology (think internet, paid bloggers, a coordinated plan to use Alinksy’s rules, and maybe even video games!). Take a page from the liquor companies which are prohibited from national advertising. Look at start-up companies that develop viral campaigns without much money. In short, stop thinking in the past. I know the enemies of the 2A sure have.

      • Note: Reach out to bloggers not related to firearms. Get positive references to gun ownership and negative references to gun control in broader circulation.

        • Google Translate: People will believe in a nom de plume without question, if it somehow agrees with what they want to believe.

          None of the acolytes have bothered to find out who this “Madeup First Name Black” dude is before supporting him.

  44. My only hesitancy is (and I know I’m going to be slammed here) is Mr Colion Nior a great speaker, or is he great at giving a speech, remember you folks hate the “teleprompter in chief”. My point is, he rehearses what he plans on saying before doing a video and you can tell it’s cut and pasted to remove the messed up parts. Could he hold his own during a heated debate or is he like “the teleprompter in chief” and once the questions come (and even from a$$hat Morgan) will he stumble and hem and haw looking for a response?

    Maybe his role would be to just do videos for the NRA, unless I’m wrong and this guy can talk the talk. I’m hoping like all of you, he can, because right now WLP and Keene just ain’t cutting it!

    • I was wondering the same thing myself. His videos are great, but I hope the NRA also helps him to develop into the first rate public speaker and spokesperson that he has the potential to be.

        • AG, just watched (listened to) a little more than six minutes of the interview, and yes he was articulate and had good answers. But this was a soft ball interview by someone with the same beliefs and views towards firearms ownership. Until I see him take on the David Gregory’s or Puke Morgans and holds his own there, then I’ll breath easier! And believe me, I’m hoping he can go toe to toe with those a$$hats and makes them look like the idiots they are!

    • I seem to recall that Mr. Noir is currently in law school or finishing. So, formulating an argument is what you essentially learn in law school. Sure, doing live stuff with Pravda media, will be rough at first for Mr. Noir. But, I think in this fight it will be a win-win giving him a bigger microphone. Just a bit of practice is all he needs for the live teevee.

    So on that page you give them all of your personal and credit card info but there is no place to leave a comment. Grrrrr!!!!

    Just give us your money. Don’t even make an attempt to get a sense of WHY the person is giving the money. Don’t you think that might be useful information? Maybe if you knew what your organization was doing to prompt someone to donate money could be useful in tailoring a part of what you do so you can raise MORE money?? By the way, this was the same lack of consideration that i encountered when I gave to some political campaigns last election. To me it’s a sign of incompetency. To me, it’s just common courtesy to ask WHY someone may be donating.

    So in the end I got perturbed and didn’t donate anything. I’m going to check my inbox in one the hundred of solicitations i got from them to see if there’s a way to donate AND to tell them why.

    Lastly, I think they need to give Wayne a decent silver parachute, a nice retirement party, and find a spokesperson who doesn’t say”Call me crazy…”

  62. He is an Ok commentator, not spectacular, but not necessarily mediocre either, I have not heard him say anything particularly inspiring or particularly insightful, and I am old and fat at 52, Hispanic, very white in colour.

    I did not want to get old and fat either.

    As far as Race being a focal point ?
    I do not go around saying, hey, look at me the old fat Hispanic Guy that knows a little bit about firearms.

    Aside from all the comments I have read, they read like multiple comments from the same person, somehow I doubt that is really true, but a ton of really sappy sounding teen girl in Love comments does not ring true to me, and not one negative comment in the lot ?

    I am not putting down Mr. Co-Lion, far from it, but I do not believe in fairy stories, smoke and mirrors either.
