Designed to commemorate Mossberg’s 100th anniversary in 2019, the Retrograde Series features the two most iconic police and military pump-action shotguns, built to today’s standards, but with the retro look and feel of a walnut stock and matching corncob forend.

Oh, it is, but not that forend, unless one wants to go aftermarket. Or at least, Mossberg hasn’t offered it for sale in quite some time. So that’s from whence my excitement stems.
For the type of job these guns were made to do I actually prefer the synthetic stocks.
But…pretty. Corncob forend, man. Corncob!

i have three and didn’t spend a grand total.
plus, they slamfire. oh, and the police special has ~never~ had a stock mounted, so as a c&r holder i can cut it down so the barrel matches the magazine length.
and the 16ga? sweet.

I’m a Mav88 owner, too. You can ask an awful lot of it and it delivers without complaint. It’s almost hard to believe you can buy one new for two bills. That’s a whole lot of value and versatility packed into just one gun.
I’m not a shotgun guy but do belive you should own one, mines a 88 and no complaints here. $200 and goes bang every time, punches pretty good to shooting slugs.
I’m of the opinion that the 88 is the single best buy on the gun market. Mine was at the 200 buck mark for a fully functional extended mag house gun. My son paid double that and more for an 870 security model and had nothing but trouble with it.
The Maverick 88s have got to be the best value in the shotgun world bar none. Dirt cheap, unending reliability, smoothish action that improves with age, good aftermarket support and just a good all around do whatever gun that can be replaced so cheaply that you’re never afraid to break out the Maverick.
I stored one in the trunk of a car for 11 years once. 11 years, getting shot a handful of times per year, never cleaned, never lubed, always worked and still worked when I reluctantly sold it right out of the trunk…for the price I bought it for over a decade before.
Perhaps something has come along that I missed, but the Mav has always been the gun that will do everything well enough, and so cheap you can always buy a back-up…not that you’ll ever need it.
Got a Chinese-made M1897 12-ga riot gun and a Mossberg 12-ga “Shockwave” for home defense. I’m done.

Can we get that 590a1 with the 590 barrel? I’m not planning to jam ship doors with it, so the extra weight is 100% pointless.

Bayonet lug?
Yeah the 590A1 Retrograde does have a bayonet lug. It’s a 51663 but with Walnut rather than black polymer furniture.

If they offer the 590A1 with a bead instead of ghost ring sights I’ll be all over it.
Shit, I can’t resist wood furniture and a nice park job, that’s my jam. It would make a great gift for my husband. It’s a shame it’s to late for Christmas, I already bought him a new rifle but maybe Valentine’s day… Everybody needs two Mossberg pumps right?
I got 3. I have grandkids and a 5 foot tall wife. The youth model 20 ga fills the bill nicely for a training gun for the kids and a house gun for my wife.

Remington 870p’s in park/walnut routinely go for $600 on gunsmoker with bead sights, I’d expect the street price for be closer to $500-$600-Ish. Nobody pays msrp unless there’s a panic.
