Britain slid closer towards a sectarian war between Muslims and non-Muslims yesterday. A terrorist drove a van into into a crowd of Muslim worshippers leaving the Finsbury Park Mosque around midnight local time, killing one and injuring at least 10 others.
Security forces wrestled the assailant (above) to the ground and took him into custody shortly thereafter. [UPDATE: The attacker has been identified as 47-year-old Darren Osborne of Cardiff, Wales.]
The BBC reports:
Eyewitness Abdul Rahman told the BBC: “When the guy came out from his van he wanted to escape, run away, and he was saying ‘I want to kill Muslims. ‘I want to kill Muslims.’
“I hit him on his stomach… and then me and the other guys… we held him to the ground until he couldn’t move. We stopped him until the police came.
The eyewitness report suggests that the man didn’t attempt to attack people with a knife or other weapon after exiting the vehicle, as has been the case in recent terrorist attacks perpetrated by members of the Islamic faith in the U.K. and elsewhere.

This is one of the reasons I’m seriously considering an upgrade to a Glock 40 or 20. When shooting a suicidal jihadis through a windshield, even critical duty 9mm coming out of a long slide barrel just doesn’t seem like enough. I’ll give up 2 rounds per magazine for a whole lot more asswhooping at the business end of the barrel.
158 grain .357 will go through a windshield quite nicely.
With less than 1/2 the number of rounds on tap and a much slower reload for more or less the same ballistics. The more I look at full power 10mm out of a long slide barrel, the less I understand why anybody would carry a full sized .357 revolver (or anything in .45 ACP). Unless you’re really recoil sensitive, I’m beginning to think that full power 10mm might be the best defensive handgun load short of .44 Magnum and up handcannons.
I think I covered why I’m very capacity sensitive in our Monambique drill discussion. A properly executed failure drill (5 rounds) nearly empties most revolvers. With a Glock 20 or 40 you still have 10-11 rounds on tap with factory magazines.
10mm in a 1911 is very nice. Shoots well and recoil mamgement is excellent. Wouldnt want to shoot it out of a plastic fantastic.
If they made a DA/SA double stack metal handgun in a long slide 10mm, I’d agree. However, with a light and optic on it, a 40 MOS quickly approaches 1911 weights.

There’s the eaa witness guns. CZ style all steel double stack and they have a few models in 10mm. Or if you’re set on the glock I’d consider the 20 with a comp instead of the 40.

.40S&W need not apply. Everything it can do, 10mm does better with the only downside being recoil management.
The short answer to your question is reliability.
Otherwise, despite claims that the 10 is ‘almost equal to .41 magnum’, it is in reality a little weaker than .357 (when comparing full pressure loads from similar barrel lengths). This advantage to the .357 is especially pronounced as bull et SDs go up. A 180gr 10 mm bull et has an SD of .160 compared to .177 for a 158gr. .357 bull et. You simply can’t buy loads in 10 that compare to 180-200gr .357s.
Then some of us just prefer the platform for lots of lesser reasons. I prefer the grip angle and shape. (Both for comfort and faster sight acquisition.) I like the option of a light SA trig get pull for well aimed shots. In 10 that means I’d probably be stuck with a 19 11 which weighs more and doesn’t hold all that many more rounds.
To each his own. I never felt undergunned carrying 16 rounds of 9 mm and I wouldn’t with 9 rounds of 10. I just prefer .357.
If you are willing to go +p with .45 or even .45 super the numbers get interesting. Heavy, and stable usually is better for penetration even when it is slower.
Or you could go the needle blower route and go for a Tok chamber pistol (9+1 max is the downside still better than a revolver) or the FN57.

BTW, I’ve got Federal 230gr.+p HSTs in my 19 11 right now, but they put out about 460ft/lbs out of the 5″ barrel as opposed to 600+ft/lbs out of my 3″ GP 100 which carries more like a sub-4″ auto. And to my knowledge, there is no such thing as +p .357, the hot stuff is actually the regular stuff.
On a side note, does anybody know of a holster manufacturer that makes a dropleg platform for a Glock 40 MOS with an X300 light?
I’m really thinking of moving up to a properly tuned 40 with an RMR, suppressor height tritium sights and an X300 on it. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find anybody who makes and dropleg compatible retention holster for it. Not a whole lot of point dropping $1500 on a handgun that I can’t rotate into my training rig.
Thats gonna be flat out custom. I went through a similar issue.

As I feared, asking for a weapon light, sights AND drop leg gets tricky with a gun like the G40.
Options I can provide you with to start looking:
Call up Black Rhino Concealment to see if their custom job will fit a leg rig. They do suppressor height sights and the rest of what you want for a G40. MOS, I dunno, call them and ask.
You can also try Black Point Tactical. They make G40 holsters meant to take an X300 but I’m not sure on the sights or the ability to be attached to a leg rig.
Lag Tactical makes leg rigs but you’d have to ask if they can do a G40 MOS + X300 set up.
High Threat Concealment makes G40 + light holsters that will interface with their HTC system, I’m not sure if that includes a leg rig option or not.
Finally, straight out custom order to get exactly what you want: contact The Cleveland Kydex Company.
There’s a few others if those don’t work but those would be the first places I’d try. I’d drop you links but then this post will just be spam. Honestly I’d go with Cleveland Kydex first.

Nothing you can carry concealed will reliably stop a vehicle bigger than a motorcycle. Safety glass, home made armour or drugged up driver have all been used in different combinations.

I think Peters is correct but it won’t be a revolution of the lower classes by force of arms. It will be a revolution at the ballot box by the middle and lower classes. They will run out of patience with Muslim terrorism and elect a hard right wing government willing to do something about it without regard for collateral damage to non-terrorists. Remember that Hitler first gained power in democratic elections. The European right hasn’t quite made it yet. They will if the established political parties continue to bury their heads in the sand and expect the general public to join them.
